Merrill Edge Incorrect coding and 1099 regarding IRA

On 12/27/2021 I withdrew $2,000 from my IRA as a withdrawal of excess contribution. Before I did that, I had spoken with a Merrill customer service representative who told me I did not need to fill out any form. All I need to do was to sell $2,000. I remember specifically asking does one need to fill out a form to withdraw excess contribution and he said no. Then Merrill sent me a 1099 treating it like it was an early withdrawal. I have spoken with Merrill on multiple occasions and explained that it is not an early withdrawal but an excess of contribution. Merrill refuses to fix it.

Desired outcome: I want a revised 1099 or some other documentation showing that it is an excess of contribution and not an early withdrawal.

Merrill Edge Horrible customer service

Dec. 2021 – I contacted Merrill Edge to have my IRRA Account liquidated.

The receiving broker sent transfer paperwork to Merrill Edge with instructions to wire funds.

01.18.22 – I contacted Merrill Edge to check on the status of the transfer of funds. I did not note the name of the representative I spoke with. He informed me that no paperwork had been received. I contacted the receiving broker and they overnighted the paperwork via FedEx. I believe Merrill Edge received the original paperwork but did nothing with it.

01.22.22 – I talked with Jason who informed me they did receive the paperwork from the receiving broker today and he will expedite the transfer and that it takes 3-5 days for an expedite.

01.25.22 - I talked to Robert who informed me that this account was a mess and he did not understand why it was taking so long. He gave me his direct phone number and promised to follow up and keep me informed. He did not do this nor is the phone number valid as there is no option to enter his extension number.

01.27.22 – I talked to Andy who informed me the check will be “mailed” today by end of day. This is the FIRST time anyone said to me that a check would be sent via regular USPS mail! He informed me that they do not do wire transfers because the government would look at the wire as a disbursement and that could cause the IRS to charge me taxes. This is the most absurd comment as I could easily show the IRS that it was not a disbursement. He again told me they do not do wire transfers and this is the normal process. He refused to allow me to pay for Certified Mail as I am concerned a check that size could easily get lost with no method to track. Who puts a check this size in the mail? How irresponsible!

02.01.22 – I talked to Ron, he offered to take this to his manager and I asked to speak to his manager directly because the funds are still with Merrill Edge. Ron’s manager is Crayton and he assured me Crayton would call me.

02.01.22 – I received a call from Glenn, not Crayton. He said Merrill does not send money via wire and that my paper work from Equity Trust clearly states the funds are to be mailed. He later clarified that he was looking at the paperwork incorrectly. He then explains that Merrill only uses ACAT to send funds because the IRS would not see that as a disbursement. I explained that to the receiving broker and they are set up to receive ACAT. The receiving broker sent ACAT directions to Merrill. However no one at Merrill saw this. Incompetence!

There are multiple emails where the receiving broker got involved to help me resolve the problems and even offered their FedEx account number to send the check. Merrill still refused!

02.23.22 – I left a voice mail for Glenn to let me know if the checked had been mailed yet and to please call me. He has not called me. Prior to my voice mail I sent Glenn an email asking for the status and Glenn has yet to reply. Unprofessional!

Today is 02.25.22 and I have not heard from anyone at Merrill and the funds still have not reached Equity Trust. I talked to XXXXX who informed me that the funds were withdrawn February 11. He put me on hold to see if he could find out when it was mailed. I told him I received a letter from Kesha, in Research and Development and that I need to speak with her as well. There is no phone number on the letter to contact her except the main number to Merrill Edge.

Merrill Edge is owned by Bank of America. I will STAY FAR AWAY from these organizations. They are great as long as they have your money but the very second you want to transfer your funds to another organization you are no longer important. No one in the Merrill Edge organization knows what the other has said or is doing. They did everything they could to stop a transfer.

02.25.22 I received a call from the receiving broker and the check has finally been received. Merrill Edge has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I will never do business with Merrill or any of its affiliates.

This complaints website shows 18 complaints and only one has been resolved. That explains the service you will get with Merrill Edge. I am so glad my funds are no longer with this organization.

Merrill Edge Death beneficiary

my father passed away 8?20 my mother and I tried for a year to get the account closed. I had to fax the same documents several times for an entire year. Eric Hill was the first person I spoke with. he said all we had to do was fax a signed document and the check would be sent. I never heard back from him. Then I spoke with Alex McCleod and Josh Duprey. they said all the paperwork was in that a check would be sent. 11/21 my mom passed away. The next day I get a call from Eric Hill he said he would now send the check. he just needed to talk to my mom one more time for her permisssion. She passed away the night before. I am now the beneficiary. Eric Hill said he would expedite the paperwork for me. I faxed my moms death certificate to Merrill. It is now February and no one has called me back. I am now on hold for 1 hour waiting for someone to answer the phone. The worst company to do business with. Can someone at Merrill please call me. Eric Hill knows the situation.

Merrill Edge Excess Roth IRA Contribution Withdrawal

Initiated four Roth IRA Excess Contribution withdrawals from my wife's Roth IRA, after we figured out we would not be able to directly contribute to it for CY 2021. The withdrawals were made, but Merrill Edge's system still says we made $2, 000 in contributions for CY 2021. We have been on the phone with them numerous times to fix the issue. Not one of the calls gave us the impression they were going to fix the issue (they just kept giving us options on how to deposit the $6, 000 I should still be able to contribute, which, BTW, none have worked).

I'm worried that if my account is not fixed, I will get penalized by the government for contributions over the limit ($6, 000 plus the $2, 000 they haven't fixed).

PS I'm not posting her account numbers to a public website. If the company wants to take this situation seriously, they can contact me through this website.

Merrill Edge My merrill edge account

I have been told that I can get my money out on January 7th and my online account is disabled or locked and I can't get my money out. I am sick and I can't go to the bank and I need the money out for certain things. And I called today and someone hung up on me too. I am tired of getting redirected to something else.

Merrill Edge Merrill Edge is not answering their phones

I tried calling Merrill Edge yesterday, I hung up after being on hold for over an hour. Again today I am making another attempt, so far I have been on hold for 30 minutes and counting. It looks like working from home is really paying off for Merrill Edge employees.

when I try to access my account I get the message "your merrill account is currently disabled. Please contact Merrill via phone a 1.877.653.4732. I have been trying for 4 days and am on hold for hours and no one answers. I can not access my money or even transfer it to my linked bank of america account. Does anyone know what is going on?

Someone answered the call after three hours of waiting! She tried to help but was unable to and insists on putting me on a queue for another dept. I said no. She tried instead to call the other dept. and was not successful. She again insisted on transferring me to other dept. I had no choice but to accept.

Waited one more hour in queue. After that it was resolved in 30mins!

Canceled my account. Terrible service.

Merrill Edge IRA to Roth IRA Conversion

I started out with a form, called in to make a change and spoke with a rep who did not clearly identify himself. Ended up speaking with this Rep two other times as he did not relay or complete the request correctly. I started the IRA conversion on 11/8/21, no action was taken by ME until 11/12, 15 & 19, they sold fractional shares in my account and they were not directed to do so. The IRA to Roth IRA conversion remained incomplete. I called in on 12/6 and spoke with another Rep who told me that the process would be completed on 12/13. 12/13 came and went and I called in on 12/22 and spoke with another rep that informed me that I will need to initiate another request and pay more taxes to have the conversion completed and have the account closed out. I informed the Rep that this should have been completed all at once as all tax payments were made from the initial request, he informed me that it was up to me to pay tax on this request or not… This whole process was ridiculous.

Merrill Edge rmd

I've tried for over 5 hours to speak to a live person at ME -as I must take my RMD and I've never spoken to a person -on hold for over 5 hours. I'm elderly and alone and I don't know what to do. Once I called at 9 am to 11:30 on hold and then at 1:40-300 pm. Someone needs to tell me what to do.

Merrill Edge Brokerage Account Unresolved Issues

I act as the POA for my elderly father since my mother passed February 2020 under a joint account. Close after her death, the process to resolve managing the account to be able to extract the cash funds held my Merrill Edge have been exhausting due to internal departments working separately and unwilling to facilitate action, resolution or basic customer service processes to an endpoint. Despite sending all the required legal POA forms, their Merrill forms, one notorized, and complying with all of their add-on requests in a timely manner, there appears to be an intent of non service to return effort to an endpoint of account management. There appears to be a deliberate attempt to hold the cash assets, it is impossible to get a single person in life services that will update, give the entire truth of requirements or their set backs to return the owners cash assets. Also, what is more annoying is that they lose legal docs and forms and blame you falsely for the neglect, only the ones notorized. After all things are done in replicate, and they state they have all documents, the add on another form for their compliance with no date of commitment to respond or to act in accordance with their own administration. It does not take 1 year to handle a death certificate to remove a deceased spouse. You cannot withdrawal cash when the deceased person cannot sign their name, so you do all the paperwork that they misplace 1.5 times, and still no answer. So, I do have details and I may be contacted directly, it is apparent to me that this is an intentional delay to not return cash funds, how is this resolved, the brokers are not permitted to handle this, it funnels via the Life Services who does not followup, or talk when it is in their favor to do so. It was our cash invested, and it is our cash to withdrawal. It is not their property. Would you please assist me in this battle, enough. I did not include data details for privacy. Merrill Edge Trading option oders messed up

Dear Sir,
My name is Hoang Tran. I have account at Merril Edge : 57X-76215
-8/20/2021 I bought 2 contracts buy to open DE call @$2.20 /share
-8/23/2021 I sold to close 2 contracts DE @$4.30/share but somehow Merrill Network
messed them up . It showed all trade orders like this:
-8/23/2021 @ 9:35am ET 1 contract DE sell to close @$3.50/share
-8/23/2021 @9:56am ET 2 contracts DE sell to close @$4.30/share
( this is the price I set to sell DE )
-8/23/2021 @3;39pm ET 1 contract BUY TO CLOSE DE @$5.35
( but I never SELL TO OPEN any DE contract Because I NEVER OWNED any share DE )
I thought something wrong with Merrill Edge Network
-8/23/2021 After market closed I call [protected] .I talked to manager (her name Amy).They promised they will correct all problems but they did not do anything.
-8/24/2021 I called again 2 times then nothing happened .
-8/27/2021 I called again 2 times then they did some corrections on my account activity .
But again they did something weird on my account. I did check my Realized Gain/Loss & Income
I found out only 1 contract DE sold @ $4.30 /share . I was missing 1 more contract DE .
I called to talk to Jonh Prophet & Cary Hearn about this problem .They promised they will correct it .
But nothing happened
-9/9/2021 I called again & talked to Carry Hearn but he said he did not know when the problem will be
solved .He had no idea about time frame.
More than 3 weeks but nobody does anything to solve this problem .
How can Merril Edge doing a business?
Would you like to help me or I have to go some wherelse to complaint about it.
I did send a complaint file to Securities & Exchange Commission on September 10-2021 .

Merrill Edge Traded Note symbol AGOpre

On 06/21/2021 Merrill moved 244 of my notes to an account I can not sell.
They told me they are being held in a holding account till a possible recall on 07/09/2021.
I want to sell them and they will not let me.
I contacted the company (Assured Guaranty Ltd )that issued the notes and they said the shares are being actively trading and they had no explanation for why Merrill Edge would not let me trade them.

Merrill Edge day trade stocks merrill edge..

we been with edge 20 years.we day trade.we trades 1000s weely ok after we bought certain stocks. now they wont allow us to purchase more..is the illegal? they pick ans choose after the fact.also game stop they blocked us a few months back after we bougt some.if we known this we not bought any in the first place now we kinda stuck.we stop here we got more that done..

Merrill Edge Brokerage Account

I am facing lot of hard time from Merrrilledge in transferring my residual amount out of merrilledge brokerage account. I initiated a full account transfer out of Merrilledge Brokerage to different firm. They give me different answers each time I inquire about the transfer of my residual amount, 5-7 days, 2 weeks, every Thursday these are different answers I get from the merrilledge representatives.

Merrill Edge Power of attorney

I've been working for over 90 days trying to get a simple power of attorney authorized for my 96 year old mother. It's been a nightmare and still isn't completed. We were sent multiple legal documents boilerplated for different states and were told to fill out the complex form without the usually prep that I've come to expect from other wealth management firms: sticky-notes indicating where signatures or initials are required, explanatory notes of where NOT to sign and why, pre-addressed return envelopes for rapid return and execution.

There have been multiple people and offices involved, scattered all over the country; returns are made to an address in Hot Springs, AR, conversations appear to be with people in Delaware. Sometimes e-mail, sometimes snail-mail, sometimes phone. It's a mess.

After finally getting the package assembled and sent and after two additional requests for more information from Merrill, I was told by my contact in Delaware that the package was now finally in effect.

Three days later this same representative contacted my mother as the account holder and told her that the submission wasn't going to be accepted and that we needed to start all over with a new application, including notarization. Notarization for this particular form is simply to verify the identity of my mother (the notary isn't validating any of the package or whether or not it is correctly filled out). Getting to the notary is a big deal in a COVID world, especially for someone in their mid-90s.

I have no clue as to why the package was rejected; I can only assume that some attorney somewhere, in an abundance of hubris or caution, decided the piecemeal nature of the process wasn't sufficient and decreed that the whole thing needed to be redone with absolutely zero regard for the firm's client or what they were wanting/needing.

The package arrived at my mother's house 10 days after she fielded the rejection phone call with a cover letter referencing the materials WE REQUESTED, as if this was new application. No explanation of why the first was rejected, no attempt to salvage the work already submitted.

I've tried multiple times to talk to the supervisor in the Power of Attorney office, Michael Ferreira, at [protected]. The only time I was able to talk to any human being I was told they showed him as online and would get back to me. Next day I received an email message saying Michael was out of the office. No alternative contact, no attempt to address the questions I've raised. I left a message this morning for Michael again and informed him that I was going to move up the ladder in an attempt to get some help. As if this writing, 4 hours later, I've heard nothing.

Pretty poor customer service. It's like nobody is at home.

What I'm looking for is to work out a way to get this done. Starting over may be the only option, but based on my experience to date, I'm not hopeful that the outcome will be any different. Health for a 96 year old is never a certain thing and we could well be in need of a working Power of Attorney at any instance; more than 90 days later and we still are no closer than we were.

I initiated a partial transfer over a month ago for a small amount of money. I’ve called in 6 times over the last 6 weeks, and I keep getting different stories about how the transfer is progressing.

Their reps say that they’ll call me back with answers to my questions, but I’ve never received any calls back… thank you Karen and Jackson for not keeping your word.

Through the 6 calls, I’ve been on hold with ME for over 5 hours. No one there can definitely tell me where my money is in the transfer process, and the story keeps changing.

Most frustrating experience with a financial institution that I’ve ever had, and I used to work with a lot of them as a financial advisor.

Merrill Edge Account locked for no reason

I have try Merrill edge for 1 week now and I have follow rule everything and I trading normal in the morning and place a trade then go to sleep and I woke up try login to check on my account then my account got locked for no reasons and ask me to call service desk when I called they can't explain to me why I got locked .this is so stupid locked people account while they in a trade that can't not login to account to sell it .i think Merrill edge is a scam want people to lose money not investing .

Merrill Edge Discrimination against the sick and handicapped

I, Alan Kaplan, was made Power of Attorney for my friend, Anne Bernstein, who is deathly ill. I sent the Power of Attorney papers to Merrill on August 14, 2020 in order to have greater access to her brokerage account, CMA-EDGE 5F4-96U73. I subsequently had to complete and return further documents that Merrill requested on September 12. After some time when I did not hear back from Merrill, I called to find out if the new documents were received (because they didn't call me as they were supposed to). I spoke to a woman named Kristal. This woman rather than helping me, locked the account completely, preventing me, or even Anne, from conducting any transactions. After several calls, I am now told that Anne must call them to re-open the account even after I informed them that Anne has Multiple System Atrophy and is no longer capable of speaking (as I also had informed Kristal). So now Merrill has her money and neither she nor her POA have access to it. She was put into this situation deliberately by Merrill. I called several times afterward and although they acknowledge my right as POA they still refuse to unlock the account unless they get a call that can't be made by Anne. I need to transfer funds from the brokerage account with Merrill to her checking account with Bank of America so that there will be money in the account to cover her bills. It is extraordinary that they would deliberately place a dying woman in this position. As if she doesn't have enough to fear and worry about without being unable to pay her medical and nursing home expenses.

Merrill Edge Stocks

I have an account with merrill edge and am the poa for irene spathis at 5wr75e07.
The process to get money after I sell stocks is beyobnd ridiculous. I have a poa and for some reason need to pay to sell stocks and do not do this online as I do with my account.
When I sell stocks, I have to receive and send ups letters, then wait for reviews of the letters to get the money.
Irene spathis is late on rent and paying for her aids because allegedly, a check you sent two weeks ago was mailed back to you after you mailed it to her when all other letters formn you adn other companies to her were received with no problem. Then I set up a whole new bank account for her in her name only to get the money plus mnonbey from stocks sold. I mailed the ups letter. It is takibng all day to review. Unless youahve children or people who failed high school reviewing a handful fo pages, there is no reason for this. She still does not have her money and is late on bills. I will remove all the mobney from her account because it seems you are not a 100-year-old american fixture you should be, but a joke of a ocmpany trying to hold onto your money. I am delaing with soe3ncer cowan, who is polite neough and seems to go with your stupid rules. However, wasting my time and asking for my family money is not what I will continue to do. I will pull money out and alert twitter etc wiht attorney generals, teh fdic, sec etc. About your practices by friday. Period.

Merrill Edge Money entering other people account

I mailed a $5, 500 check to deposit my Merill Edge IRA account on 2/26/2019 from my bank of america account. Soon the money was deducted from my bank account, but until couple of months later I found the money wasn't deposit to our Merrill Edge account. I went to bank of america local branch several times and also called Merrill Edge several times but neither Bank of America staff nor Merrill Edge staff knew where the money was gone. I have clear image of the check front and back. But they can still not trace the check. It is rediculous how they processing their check. The check number is there, the Merrill account was there, the image was there. If it is not the help of Michael Lee from BOA branch of San Gabriel, CA, I may never got my money back. He sharply found out they may deposit it to wrong account and help me to call Merrill Edge for over one hour and finally help to correct the deposit. Finally my money was back to my account. But I still strongly complain the Merrill Edge for their inablility to track the check they received. If I just trust them blindly, I will lose my money. Even I found the issue, they still can't trace it. What a bank! I hope in the future they can double check the check to make sure they deposit to correct account, and secondly, they can trace their check correctly if it was deposited wrong. I don't think it is tenechally difficult if the bank is truely care their customer.
Thridly, I truly appeciated Michael Lee 's help who is assistant vice president and financial solutions advisor located on 102 E Las Tunas Dr. CA8-132-01-01 San Gabriel, CA 91776. Without him, Merrill Edge may never found their mistake.

Merrill Edge incompetent and irresponsible management

I own some shares of a penny stock that I wanted to move to Merrill Edge. The broker that had the shares was exiting the retail business. If I moved the shares out of my existing account, they would close the account with no chance to re-open it. I explained the situation completely to the Merrill Edge broker. He sent the information to his headquarters to verified, in writing, that the shares would be accepted by Merrill Edge.
I transferred the shares out of the old broker into a temporary account at the transfer agent (at the insistence of the old broker). The old broker closed out my account. Merrill was to authorize transfer from the transfer agent to Merrill, but instead they called me to say they would not accept the shares. They had made a policy mistake, they would not accept the shares, and that's too bad for me. I was told they would do nothing to help me and if I wanted to protest or sue them, to go right ahead. They have more than enough money to crush me.
So now I have no place to go with these shares thanks to Merrill Edge, a company whose commitment means nothing, even when it's in writing.

It is hard to believe that the behavior of an adult run company, Merrill Edge. Would mimic the behavior of a high school bully. Something Merrill Edge and Bank of America
should re-evaluate. Bullying in this day and age should not exist. The schools in the united states and around the world are addressing the problem, in hopes of ending bullying forever.
I was very surprised to find that Merrill Edge and Bank of American have reserved the right to bully their customers, Any time for any reason, then keep that reason a secret
from the Bullied customer. Could you imagine the consequences that would result if a school bully posted a note on his locker, That stated "I have the ability to punch
anyone I want in the head any time I want and for any reason I want." Now Imagine that Bully does as his note says. Punches several other students up side their head. I am
sure no school would put up with this behavior. I have no Idea what a Judge would do when this bully showed up in court. I am pretty sure punching other students would be
considered a premeditated crime. Since the bully in question posted a note on his locker. Do you believe this bully should be allowed to punch anyone he wants any time he wants
without consequences? After all He did post a warning. I do not think so. I would hope that a judge would increase his punishment by ten times, for committing what should be
considered a premeditated crime. Keeping this in mind why should companies be allowed to commit this type of bullying, without paying the same consequences. Considering the
behavior of adults, Running companies should be virtually perfect, as compared to a High school bully. If an adult run company is found to be bullying customers, in a
premeditated fashion, As Bank of America and Merrill Edge have been found guilty of. This companies punishment should be Thousands of times greater than, That of a High
School bullies punishment. There is no excuse for an adult to be a bully. There is absolutely no excuse for a company to be allowed to bully its customers, without
severe consequences. This kind of behavior should be punished severely. I am open to joining a lawsuit. Merrill Edge's Bullying behavior actually cost me $10, 000.00.
Money I am sure they are not Adult enough to take responsibility for, without legal action. I opened My account with Merrill Edge for the 100 free trades per month.
Plus other incentives offered by Bank of America. It really takes a lot of work to use 100 trades in a month. It took me about a year but I finally got to the point
I could use the 100 Free trades, Instead of letting them go to waist. Merrill Edge called me on July 30th 2018, To inform me that they would no long allow Penny stock trades,
as of July 31st 2018. About 24 hours notice. When I started making trades again with Stocks over the $5.00 threshold for penny Stocks. They closed my account, For no reason.
I would prefer not to do business with a dishonest company, anyway. The reason Merrill Edge refuses to disclose why they closed my account, Baffled me. I now realize their
refusal to answer a simple question, Is in effort to prevent lawsuits. There is no reason for an honest company to refuse to answer a simple honest question.
What crime is Merrill Edge hiding? To me his proves Merrill Edge is a dishonest bullying company. I hope a lawyer will read this complaint. With the ability to
understand what criminal activity Merrill Edge is trying to hide.I also hope that this type of criminal behavior and bulling can be punished. Bait and switch.
Merrill Edge and Bank of America offer incentives to open accounts. If and when you fully utilize those incentives, They close your accounts, without explanation.
In my view this is a bait and switch scam. In my view this is criminal activity that should be punished, severely. In my view Merrill Edge and Bank of America are
running a Bait and switch scam to accuire customers. If this is not the case, Then a simple honest answer should be forthcoming. Something any honest company would do. So Merrill Edge, Lets hear it!
