Their rebates really are a scam. I don't mind that what they give must be used in Menards. What bugs me is that the rebate must be mailed in usually within a week later, must include the original receipt, you must create and address your own envelope, and then you still need to wait 6-8 weeks. This type of unnecessary overhead demonstrates that they really do not want people collecting on those rebates.

It's even worse than that. Aside from having to invest in stamps and envelopes with which to send off the receipts for the "rebate", which only breaks even with larger purchases at best, the "rebate" is only good for in-store credit on future purchases from Menards.

It's a blatantly obvious marketing ploy, one that doesn't really provide any sort of discounts to the general shopper. It's meant only as a means for Menards to appear as though it's offering deals when, in fact, it's offering nothing more than smoke alongside already bloated prices.

The real kicker is that, for most of rural America, this trash box store is the only source for building supplies within a 50 mile radius. And they know it, which is why they charge whatever they want while pretending they're actually competing with other retailers. They are, for all intents and purposes, a solid joke in the home improvement retail sector.

I guess I am in the lucky ones category, although the largest rebate I have gotten was $140...But I have received every rebate I have submitted, even ones sent past the final mailing date. I send them with ones that aren't outdated and get the rebate, always, at least so far, and I have been submitting them for several years. I even sent a few that had been missed, and were all outdated, a week or two before Christmas (2022), when they are technically done accepting them for the year. I really didn't think I would get anything back. Was happily surprised when I received that rebate at the end of Feb this year. Being an OCD Accountant, I fully document everything, just in case. I copy the receipts and form, and notate the mailing date, but have not needed it up to this time. As for having to spend it at Menards, it doesn't bother me a bit.

I honestly hope that Menards makes it right with all those that haven't gotten what they are owed, though

Of course it's a scam, but people are getting wrapped up in the wrong issue. The root of the problem is false advertising. They falsely list rebate items on their website as costing 11% less when in fact the only way that item could be discounted is if you already posses a rebate from a previous purchase. They should not be advertising a discounted price because you do not receive a discount at the time of purchase. Obviously the advertising laws in the states that Menards does business are weaker than in other states where they do not operate. The only way things will change is if you push for stricter legislation otherwise corporations will take advantage of any hole they can find. America was founded on the right to fool the masses in order to pad your own pockets! Wake up people.

Agree that the 11% rebate is a scam. You're not really saving money on anything because when you get the rebate, it's in a store credit which you can't cash but only to spend it more at Menards. Basically you're giving the money you saved right back to Menards.

Many postal workers are stealing these. It’s clearly obvious that it Menards rebate check. Multiple mail carriers have been charged with theft of these. I’ve received ALL of mine. My friend has received NONE of theirs. Ever. For several years.

She is missing a big rebate check that was issued and sent out 2 mos ago and never showed up in her mailbox. She needs to file police report, etc. to begin process of figuring out where her mail keeps going……but I’m fairly certain her mail carrier has been shopping at Menards for years.

I have extremely neat handwriting and very carefully fill out my rebate forms before sending them in. I never used to have a problem getting rebates but over the last year I haven't received any of the rebates I sent in for - for a total of over $300 dollars. I have no issue with the fact that the rebate needs to be spent at Menards, but I feel like they bank on people forgetting about the rebate and don't want you to follow up before 10 weeks after mailing. I try to follow up and they want me to show proof - well, I sent that in the mail as requested. I don't buy that all of those envelopes have been "lost" by USPS. And if you use the receipt look up online, it says you can't use that receipt for rebates. It is just so complicated compared to most stores rewards programs. I think I'm better off shopping elsewhere.

I have no problem with Menard's rebate program. I save up a few rebate receipts, fill out the form, which is only a small nuisance, wait a few weeks and get my rebate. Yes, it can only be used at Menard's. What do you expect? They're not Santa Claus. Of course, they want to encourage shoppers to return to the store and they will give you 11% of your purchases to do so. If you pay attention, you will note that if you buy merchandise with your rebate, you can return that receipt and get 11% rebate off of that! If it's too much trouble for you, don't bother with it. Give your rebate receipts to someone else. Thank you, Menards.

Susan,

Please read the original email John wrote. He stated he did not mind that the rebate only could be used at Menards. I'm glad you have had a great experience with rebates, but it is undeniable that Menards has an issue with some people getting their rebates. I have had several go missing, and not by the postman, as the rebate international site has no information on ever receiving the rebates. Ok, so this might occasionally happen, but not at the frequency that many people have reported. And how do you explain large purchase rebates that are the only ones I seem to never receive? I always receive the small value rebates but have not received the last two rebates where the purchases were over 1k. And these were online special orders where Menards email me the rebate, and I sent them in before ever receiving the product.

Never recieved rebate even though it was listed it was sent. Big issue is , I didn't write down number on rebate form even so I do have their check number and rebate refund number, date mailed. Need tracking number in small print on rebate form. Cant talk to anyone to resend check. It's only online form with a tracking number which I don't have but all other info I do have. BIG SCAM!

I agree that this is a scam. My issue is similar to yours.

I mailed in the rebate, and have now checked the status. It shows that the rebate was mailed. However, I never received it.

Because I knew that something could go wrong, I made a copy of everything that was mailed. So, I have all of the information. However, in order to reissue another rebate, Menards states that they'll charge a $6.00 fee. My rebate was only for a little over $10.

I definitely believe this is a scam. This is my first time attempting to use this rebate program. Not only do they require everything that everyone has already stated, and not only does it take a long time for them to process, mine just got lost in the mail? Not likely. Especially when this is also the case for so many others.

I was willing to jump through the hoops, fill out the form, and everything else. However, it's an issue when a lot of people don't receive them, and they charge a reissue fee. It just smells like a scam; where they issue some, while lots of others get "lost in the mail", and they charge a reissue fee.

At least I now know. From now on, I won't bother to consider the rebate price, when making a decision of whether to shop at Menards, or someplace else. At least I now know that it's basically a scam.

I have been sending in Menards rebate forms since they started offering them. I have never had a problem, even when I sent in form for over $400.

I previously worked for a rebate company. Many times the handwriting was so bad we couldn't process the rebate. Use a mailing label on the form.

Rebates coming in and sit in a mailroom a few days. There are staffing shortages. Everything is taking longer everywhere. Please be patient.

Scam? Come on people. I’ve done dozens of Menards rebates over many years for a total of $3000+ in rebates. NEVER a problem. Doesn’t bother me in the least that I have to use rebates at Menards. Net prices beat everyone else’s. Some kind of online submission would be nice but presumably in due time. I’m sure their business model assumes some significant percent of people won’t submit the forms, but I’m cheap enough that I don’t let thousands slip by.

My mother-in-law had my husband go to Mernards for to buy some fence panels. She was spening hundreds of dollars there. She was under the impression she was going to receive 11% off her bill at the register. That is the amount she budgeted herself for. She is retired and watches every penny. The commercials and newspaper ads never says it is in the form of a rebate and you have to wait 8 weeks except on very small print. Very misleading and Mernards that is shameful! There should be a class action against them! I will never shop there!

What you don’t understand is that they have that waiting period for people to return items and adjust the amount on the rebate if needed.

If they give the rebate instantly why wouldn’t they just adjust the price at the store. Waiting 6 weeks for it when all it’s costing you is a stamp is not the end of the world. I’ve collected over 2500$ in rebates. America is so impatient.

Rebates should be used for our own purpose and not back to the store. And they shouldn't be deducted from the return price. They are different than coupons and sale prices. I rebated and couponed for 20 plus years. Rebates are not to be used like this. I will not be back to a Menards...ever.

It seems I'm in the minority here. But for what it's worth, I've already received over $1000 in rebates in just the last two months. And another $250 is on its way. I have had absolutely no issue with getting what I'm owed. (Yes, I've spent a LOT of money there this summer.) My experience seems to disprove the theory that Menards won't pay out on big purchases. I love Menards. And while I agree the whole rebate process is a bit cumbersome, in my opinion it's well worth it. It's too bad others are having trouble getting their rebates. But I just don't see a big conspiracy to cheat people.

I have never had a problem with Menards rebate program. I mail my receipts upon purchase and receive a rebate check in the mail. There was only 1 time I didn't receive my rebate check. I contacted the rebate center by email with the check information found on their website. I explained that I had never received that specific rebate. And Viola...I received a replacement in the mail. Doesn't get much easier than that.

As far as Menards rebates- I don't quite understand what others are complaining about. I have received all of the rebates I have mailed in. Many don't even take the full 6-8 weeks. We purchased premium cedar privacy fencing (big project!) and received a rebate check for over $330! Happy about that! Sure, have to use it in Menards but that shouldn't be hard. They don't have an expiration date. Just make sure to keep in a secure place just like you would do cash. I can't understand why anyone would ever put in their pocket and then end up washing. They have a barcode that needs to be scanned when using so why would you fold up and put in a pocket...and then forget about it ? That would be your fault not Menards.

Manards rebate is a scam - have to have a "Rebate Receipt" that you are emailed for online orders but the catch is if MANADRS does not send you the Rebate Receipt" you can not get the rebate hence the MANARDS Scam.
The proof of pruchase can be found and printed but not what you need to get the rebate. When you ask at the store for a "rebate Receipt" same thing a scam they can not provide one just a "proof of purchase receipt" tricked in to a purchase. Lows and Home Depot do not run scam, they are honest helpful companies not like the scams the Manards is running -- Beware of Manards

Same issue here. I placed a $1600+ order online and did not get the rebate receipt emailed to me. I guess it does not matter because I have never received a rebate from this company and have sent plenty in. Not sure who they are paying off to keep this scam going I only know that it is not paying the people sending in their rebate receipts.

For sure menards 11% rebate is just a scam. bought a entrance door in may 20 until now have not received any rebate. keep tracking and sending email to rebate center, but went to “black hole”, no responses. don’t ever make your decision to purchase a big amount items for your project based on the 11% rebate. you think that you can save some money, but no you don’t. if you see menards 11% rebate advertisement, just laught at it and walk away.

Let's not forget the rebates come in paper form as do the returns checks I lost a $200 returns check to the washing machine now no way to recover because the washer obliterated enough of the important numbers that a forensic team couldn't revive enough to get a replacement

Have had the same problem lately as everyone is saying on here. My rebates are many low amounts, nothing over 50.00. And I haven’t received any of them and it’s been 8 weeks. They aren’t showing on the tracker either. I have always shopped at menards because I’ve always liked our local store but apparently they can’t honor their sales so I will have to move on to Home Depot. Sad because I have always gone there weekly.

I have to say, I love shopping at Menards and up until this year, there has not been an issue with getting rebates. This year, however, we have had several good size purchases and I do send in the rebates soon after I get them. We received a few earlier this year, all the smaller amounts. My thought was everyone walked off the job. LOL. I know longer believe we will receive I just don't know how they can continue advertising the 11% Rebate. All they need to do is fix their ads and pay up to the ones they already owe. But it isn't likely.

I also have been a loyal customer of Menards for many years and never had an issue with rebates until recently. I have a number of outstanding rebated all after June 2020. These do not show up on thier tracking system and when I followed up I received a generic email stating to wait longer and if I follow up again it will delay the process more. This is my first and last time to follow up. I will post as many places as possible of my experience. After this response I purchased a water softner at Home Depot for $409 standard price, Menards sells it for $449 be rebate and $399 after rebate. In the past I would have paid the $449 to get the additional $10 after rebate but now I find getting the $40 immediate savings better. I will now only buy from the store with the best immediate price.

I agree with everyone! We also get scammed all the time with these high dollar rebates. I feel as if the rebate is more then $200, then you can kiss that savings goodbye! We have purchased many high dollar items thru the building dept and have yet to receive compensation for our purchases. I have always waited the full 6 weeks before sending a useless email to the customer service pleading to surrender me my money owed. They have responded back one week later stating that they never received my rebates. Funny how when i send a couple dollar rebates in, I automatically get them back within 3 weeks. I am now owed thousands of dollars from this company and no one seems to want to do anything about it. I hope we do get a class act lawsuit because I will be the first to sign up. I have even taken copies of my receipts and resent them in again. I've also complained to the managers at stores and they tell you to continue sending them in, even if they are beyond the expiration date. Supposedly, they can be redeemed up to two years past the date. That's what i'm told! I cant even get my unexpired certificates sent to me if they owe me more then $200. I cant understand why we can't submit our refund online and receive the refund in a sealed envelope! Makes no kind of sense to me. I personally believe the workers at the Rebate International Center are stealing the high dollar rebates and that is why they do not get logged in on my rebate tracker. Just my opinion!

I have a similar issue going on with Menards, for over $100 for their frequent 11% rebates. Rebates International is a joke. You cannot call them, it is difficult to get in contact with them, they have done everything in their power to make it as hard as possible to get the rebate. Compare this to Staples...I can submit it online, and know that it is IMMEDIATELY entered into their system. This Menards system is from the horse and buggy days. I have copied the Ohio Attorney General office on this matter to get their assistance.

If you think about it hard, you’re not saving anything. The rebate is kept in store. You think you’re getting this great deal when you get this big 11% rebate but you’re going to spend that rebate on something else in the store. It’s Menards way of just shuffling money around, they deceive you into thinking you’re saving all of this money when really you’re not. I don’t waste my time or trouble messing with their rebates, in the end its not worth it.

Hello,

I like Menards but I absolutely hate the way that they do rebates! I mean, what an antiquated system!

First of all, I have had rebates issued to me that I never received! And now I have to go through all of the time-wasting effort to track this all down as to why. Haven't I done enough by shopping at the store!

I've also lost a few that say they were redeemed. Just this summer our neighborhood has suffered from mailbox robbery. Why would you send cash in the mail? These rebates are like cash!

Menards needs to change the way they offer rebates or a lot of us will just stop shopping at the store. It's too much of a headache to worry about this day and age.

I have sent in a few rebates and got usually or most of what I expected. One has to be careful and know ahead of time that seasonal discounted items etc... don't qualified.
Any way, I simply look at this way and my stress is taken care of. If, the retail price is alright with me already. Than I'll go ahead and buy it. Also, if you do a little shopping in store or online with Menards first. You'll soon find that the 11% is the same price of the items when they do go on sale. This doesn't happen as much any more since Menards has learned that they come out ahead with the Rebate sales because too many people don't send it the Rebates. There you have it in a nutshell. They found a way to boost profits

August 2016 we purchased Refig/stove. Sent in the 11% rebate for over $200.,
with another small one around $11. 7 weeks later we received the $11. rebate voucher.
Never did receive the one for over $200.
Febr. 2018 we purchased another refig/stove for a rental. Rebate sent in for $197.
along with 3 other rebates in same envelope. We received the other 3 vouchers
6 weeks later. Checked on the rebates website and nothing about the $197. was ever added
to their system.
What a scam, the only reason we purchased at Menards was because of the rebate.
Would have been cheaper at Lowes, where we will go from now on.

I find it interesting that Menards would disenfranchise itself so far from their loyal fan base, like the 20 year customer above. Another case of a corporation ditching customer service in favor of cutting a few in house jobs like rebate oversight and credit card maintenance service. Menards enticed us in with a rebate offer when we were looking for 3 new garage doors etc. so after jumping through several hoops to qualify for a rebate (237.00) filed early sept 2017, we had not received anything by Jan 1st 2018. I went online to see what up, cause lord knows you can't call anyone, and found out that rebates international supposedly cut us a check in early oct. isn't it surprising that it never hit our mailbox. A reoccurring theme at the BBB. More people should call the cops. It hadn't occurred to me that if you filed for a rebate ( and didn't receive it) and returned something that they would try to extract their 11% from the refund, insult to injury, theft.
