Purchased a special order door from Mendards in Oakdale MN. Paid a lic. contractor $400 to install it in Sept 2008. The door is so warped that the slightest breeze blows it open. It is now March 2009 and we still don't have any resolution on this problem. Menards insists we deal with the door manufacturer, MasterCraft. Truth is neither one of them gives a rats patuty about the problem. Do not, I repeat do not every buy anything special order from Mendards and never, ever, ever buy MasterCraft doors-- they are crap. Used to shop there all of the time, now we go elsewhere and suggest you do too! If you don't think they think their customers are worthless, google menardsonyoutube.

LIP SERVICE - for compensation. After purchasing a Mastercraft Exterior Door in July 2018, the 3 point lock system failed in May 2019. To exit our cabin, we crawled out a window. The lock was stuck, and inoperable from the inside and outside. This door was BRAND NEW, on an end cap at the Virginia MN Menard's store, and considered a "display" or "bargain", "as is" unit. This door NEVER left the store until we bought it. YES, a bargain at $1, 100. Hence Midwest Manufacturing will not compensate us for this DEFECTIVE DOOR. Why sell ANY product if you can't cover your liabilities for a FAILED item? Lip service from company reps is the compensation that was offered.

Bought a pre-hung special order door from Menards and made by Mastercraft of Midwest Manufacturing. First door had significant cracking around the holes in the door jamb. Had another ordered through warranty. Waited two weeks to find even worse cracking and splintering around door jamb. Had a third ordered to replace through warranty. Was assured by Midwest Manufacturing that this door was inspected by their Quality Control process. We looked at the third door while still on the Menards delivery truck. The door jamb damage was more extensive than the first two doors! Poor manufacturing processes, customer service, and poor quality product. Buying Mastercraft will waste your time and money with defective merchandise. No apologies from Midwest Manufacturing but rather attitude and deflection of blame instead (blamed damage on shipping or us). Unbelievable Mastercrap!

I purchased 2 exterior doors from Menards; (MasterCraft) Midwest Manufacturing products (a Menards company). Both leaked around the window damaging the oak veneer on the inside. I was told by their "customer service" person to put the finish coat on it and this would take care of the problem. Really! Do not purchase, try any other retailer or brand, if it says MasterCraft/Midwest Manufacturing, Don't walk away, RUN! Instead of "save big money" how about a tag line like "We make crap and don't stand behind it at Menards". It must be easy to sleep at night being a billionaire who made it on the backs of hard working people.

I, too, spent nearly $5000 on exterior doors_ 2300 for French doors and $600 in fiberglass door for them to fall apart and warp in less than one year! Midwest aka Menards did nothing to back it's products. I complained to BBB, still no refund!

About six months ago we purchased a MasterCraft pocket door. It was a special order and we could not have been more pleased with this door. Based on that experience we ordered a leaded glass French door. Without going into detail, we could not have been more disappointed. The quality of material and workmanship on a $1, 650.00 door was disgusting. Both Menards corporate office and MasterCraft indicated it would take them each two weeks to evaluate my written complaint (photos attached) and an additional six weeks to manufacture a new door. This, of course, is not an acceptable time frame so we will purchase a door elsewhere. The Menards in Maple Grove is another story. The store manager, without hesitation, requested I return the door and then issued a full refund. That store has earned my loyalty as a customer.

I purchased a master craft door, leaded glass with side light 0n06/11/09. This spring the vinyl started to buckle at both sides of the frame near the sill.
I sent photos to Midwest manufacturing and they responded with an installation guide and that it was improperly caulked and maintained, I Ibought this door under the impression that there was no maintenance required.

I had the same thing happen to mine and got the same response. A reputable manufacturer would have sealed that joint with a lifetime sealant, such as urethane. they discontinued the vinyl clad door for some reason...Hmm...I wonder why? When you rip open the vinyl you'll find rotten wood. Wouldn't even SELL me a new frame, said I had to buy a complete new door system. Like I'd actually do that again! I guess you do get what you pay for. Buy somewhere else, they don't deserve your business!

We purchased 2 Mastercraft exterior doors from Menards in 2013 for our newly built home. All I can say is never again. Everytime it rains they leak under the sill and the French door also leaks down the window. Thinking it may have been the installation we purchased a new door frame for our regular size door recalked everything made sure it was installed correctly and the door still leaks. Looks like we are going to have to purchase 2 new doors and they definitely won't be Mastercraft (unless a person likes to make sure the door has a board in front of it everytime it rains). Tried numerous times to get ahold of our Rep at Menards but never heard back from him. I'm sure he knows there is nothing that can be done. Save yourself a headache and buy a different brand, Mastercraft exterior doors are junk!

I'm wondering how you could have possibly had a good experience with that company. I am absolutely disgusted with them and will never buy another door from them. I'm leaving my review everywhere so that, hopefully, I can save someone some time and money.

My experience with Mastercraft was absolutely awful. My husband and I bought a new front door from them for the house we purchased in January. There were issue with the door itself so I contacted the company. Here is my original email to them:
"My husband and I ordered the door on Saturday 1/9/16 and picked it up on Friday 1/15/16. Upon pick up, it was discovered that the door was missing the sidelight kickplate which was ordered, verified by the sales person and paid for. At pick up, my husband brought it to the attention of the sales associate and was told it would be sent Fed-Ex to us. This is unacceptable as the sales person we ordered with on 1/9 stated we were much better off to order the kickplate installed from the factory as it would be more resilient. We still have not received a kickplate.
We ordered the door with a handle and deadbolt bore. The holes were made through the door to accommodate the handle and deadbolt but did not allow for the door to close properly as the interior closing edge was not bored to house the locking mechanism. Because of this, we had great difficulty in finding hardware that would allow the door to close, and ultimately had to use pieces from THREE different kits.
We are very disappointed with the construction of the door. The trim on the door is haphazardly installed. There are a few places where is is not even flush with the window. On the upper pane of the sidelight, the trim is BENT in a concave manner. There is also glue/adhesive on the window framing.
Lastly, many of the holes drilled for the screws on the frame of the windows are drilled in a manner that does not allow the plugs to obscure the holes. It appears that the bits used to drill the holes wore in the trim on an angle that was not intended.
We wanted to buy local as much as we could and were excited about being able to tell guests that our door was made in Wisconsin. For spending over a thousand dollars on a door, we are extremely disappointed. We spared no expense on this purchase and were expecting better workmanship.
I am writing this desiring to hear what can be done."
After over a dozen emails back and forth (I'll spare you the gritty details), them telling me Windex would remove caulking (um, ok) and me filling out a measurement questionnaire (when none of my complaints had anything to do with the measurements of the door), I ended up with two new windows. And, yes, they expect me to dismantle my $1200 door and install them myself. I don't even understand the logic in that. I STILL do not have a kickplate... you know, the one we ordered and paid for...?
I was told that the kickplate "wasn't part of the warranty" even after I described many times that it was already paid for and not a warranty issue at all.
Mastercraft's customer service is bottom of the barrel. Don't expect anything out of them... including common sense.
They could have sent me new trim and plugs for around the windows and a kickplate (you know, the one we paid paid for?!) and I would have been happy. Instead, they sent me $800 in windows. Because that makes sense.
Worst company ever. If you order a door from them, you're doing so at your own peril.

after reading some of these my problem seems so simple.I have some new interior doors and we are trying to paint the jambs but the paint does not want to stay on them. After several days of cure time we accidentally bumped the jambs while putting some sheetrock repairs in an adjacent room and the paint nearly wiped off. The slightest scuff against the jamb and the paint begins to peal off in long strips. Any thought what can be done to stop the paint from pealing like snake skin? Any special primer needed or something simple like that?

The primer is junk. Paint does not bond to the junky primer. Must reprime before painting. Why would a manufacturer use such a crappy product and expect continuing sales a growth. Bad busines. Maybe a cheap door but a big headach and time wasted repairing paint issues.

I wish I had read this page before I bought a Master Craft Door. The frame melted. Their solution is to replace the door and I am telling them that is not acceptable. I want a refund. As with other comments I have to pay the cost of installing the replacement door not to mention the reinstalling of the storm door.

I wish I would have read this before I orded two custom french doors from Martercraft. I started my project in January 2011 and by June 15 I was still dealing with warped and venneer peeling doors. It was a nightmare. After replacing the doors three times finally I put it off with semi-perfect doors. The employees and the store manager were very polite and made this horror less painfull. Thank you Jose, Emma and Jeff in Menards North Av. for your help. In the end it was not your fault.

I agree with most that has been said. After a few days my Mastercraft fiberglass finished door was rained on and the water ran under the 1/2 lite window and down inside the door and on to my foyer floor.
I too do not feel it is my job to fix a poorly manufactured door with parts they want to send me.

Wish we had read these before we bought 3 doors. One was to the garage because the one before was an interior door and it was drafty. Now we have a gap that the mice are loving. It's an open crack for them between the sill and the bottom of the door. Each door we purchased has a gap either along the side or on the bottom. I agree. These doors are crap...

I agree completely with this complaint because I too special ordered a $750.00 Mastercraft door through Menards in June of 2009. I received and paid to have the door installed in July of 2009. In March of 2010, only 9 months later, I noticed the glass window in the door had slipped down. I called Menards. I was told that the door was under warranty with Mastercraft, and they, Mastercraft, would send someone out to fix the problem. The Menards employee then told me to fill out a complaint form with pictures showing the problem with the window. I did all of this and sent it in to Menards. Menards was giving me the impression they were helping me, and I was reassured by what the employee had told me.

Next, I received a letter from Midwest Manufacturing saying the window manufacturer has authorized them to send me a replacement window. They also wrote that the product is under warranty, but the labor to fix the defected door is not listed under the warranty. Even though I paid for what I thought was a quality "AMERICAN" product, "MASTERCRAFT, " and trusted a company, MENARDS, which I thought was a reliable "AMERICAN" company, I am having to foot the bill to have the defected door replaced. I told Menards I would just return the door, but I was informed they would not take back a door that had been installed.

I then began searching the internet for a full written document of Mastercrafts Lifetime Warranties, but I have not been able to find one. While on the Midwestern Manufacturing site, I noticed that Menards was mentioned several times and that Menards owned and operated the website. What a scam setup! The whole time it is Menards behind the whole operation, but they lead you to believe otherwise.

I called a lawyer I know who says he has witness Menards shady dealings and will have nothing to do with them. Since then I have spoken with several other people who say they refuse to buy from Menards, as well. In the end, I am a victim of a heartless money grubbing company. If these types of companies are what OUR AMERICA is coming to then we are all headed toward a huge downfall. What has happened to the American characteristics of quality, service, honesty and pride in one's work? Evidently, it is NOT at MENARDS, and more than likely, never was.

I purchased two MasterCraft doors which supposedly had lifetime and/or limited lifetime warranties. The leaded glass windows in them crapped out in that the sealant they used to install them liquified and oozed out all around the window frames. It's black and gooeye and nasty. Menard's pretends to acvocate on my behalf to MasterCraft. What a joke. Menard's OWNS MasterCraft. Master Craft promptly informs me that the windows had only a ONE YEAR warranty, so no action on their part is required of forthcoming. Funny...that's not what the sales people told me, that's not what the brochure says, and that's not how the expressed warranty reads. I used to deliver packages for a living, and I can't tell you how many doors just like mine were installed and developed the same problem. I remember thinking "gee...I hope that doesn't happen to mine." Conclusion: Cheap product, misrepresented. A warranty is only as good as the company/companies behind it, in this case highly suspect.

I bought a Mastercraft Door and did not have that problem. I know that doors can sometimes be tricky to install. Did you contact the vendor through their website? www.midwestmanufacturing.com

Have you filled out the Blue Installed Customer Complaint Form? If you haven't yet, this would be the first step. You can get the form from your local Menards store. This informs the General Office of the issue, which in turns contacts the vendor on your behalf.
