Menards - declined check

On July 21, 2016 early in the morning I stopped at Menards to purchase a few thing for my crews on that day. This is not out of the ordinary as we make purchases on a regular basis at that store early in the morning in the summer. After running my check twice the cashier handed it back to me and said the check was declined by Certegy with no explanation...

Menards new windows

I ordered 3 new windows for our old seasonal house that I'm redoing. I will be replacing the siding completely and I said it is like a new construction.

When I picked up the best Jen-Wen windows I saw there wasn't any nail flanges on them.

I mentioned it and the one Menards guy said after a bit those are pocket windows. I had no idea. Every window I've put in had the flange to nail.

Now I've discovered that the order fellow just decided that I should get those pocket windows! What in the world will I do with them now!

I've just about had it with Menards and the junky way they do things!

Menards building materials

Menards Scottsbluff Nebraska

I am writing to file a formal complaint against the General Manager (name unknown) and Department Manager Spencer Drake, at the store located in Scottsbluff NE.

On July 3, 2016, between 12:15-12:45 pm mountain time, my daughter, her friend, and myself were in the store to purchase products. We were looking at the Clearance lumber. We asked a store representative about the pricing. His name was Andrew. He told us that all the boards in the specific rack were $6.99. He also stated, that at the checkout if they had any questions to have them call him. A cashier then, contacted the Building Materials Dept to ask about pricing. At that time, Spencer Drake stated that the board was $19.99. I said, no we were told $6.99. Spencer then advised me to return to the Clearance location. At this time my daughter and I walked back there. Spencer was very rude and sarcastic when, I told him that Andrew stated, the wood was $6.99 and that was also the price listed on the tag above the items. Spencer got all mouthy and said, I am not giving you that wood for $6.99. I said, that is the price that both Andrew and the sign state. He said, I don’t care. It was put in the wrong Clearance place. I stated that was not my problem. I then said, I will take a pic of the price marker and dispute with management.

At this time, Spencer began trying to block me from taking a picture of the price marker, by jumping up and down and waving his arm around. He also began swatting at me in attempt to take or knock my cell phone from my hand. I said, who are you. He gave me his card and walked off. He threatened to have me escorted out of the store and I told him if he laid one hand on me I would call the police. He said, do whatever you want, as I am the manager. He stated that there was some sign in the front of the store that state no pictures. I said, I have never seen any such sign. He was yelling at me and threatening me.

Let me be clear, I have taken pictures of items in the store before to send to friends and family of products I wanted their opinion on and no time was I ever told not to.

At no such time, does any Menards employee of any status level have any such power, authority or any legal binding jurisdiction to attempt to damage, destroy or confiscate a cell phone from a customer. That is in direct violation of my Constitutional Rights. In fact, the United States Supreme Court, has ruled that not even Law Enforcement of any Jurisdiction can damage,
destroy or confiscate a cell phone from an individual taking pictures or videos anywhere at anytime. Therefore, Menards is not above the Law.

It is grossly embarrassing and in direct violation of my rights, that Menards would employ individuals who feel the need to act out or possess aggressive, disrespectful and belligerent manners and behaviors.

Your General Manager did not have the common courtesy to introduce himself or offer any resolution. In fact, he made it known that he could careless and that he felt it was beneath him to have to even come talk to us. Maybe he does not feel that customer service is part of his job description. He stated that the wood was $19.99 and he was not letting us purchase it for $6.99. I asked him if he had video footage so that he could review the incident that took place with Spencer. He shrugged his shoulders. He did nothing but try to cover up for Spencer.

I do not know who hired these two individuals or found them suitable for the positions in which they hold, but they both should be terminated immediately.

I too have had issues with Spencer Drake. I took measurements in to purchase siding for my house. He estimated it would take 360 pieces to do the job. Upon completion we had 94 pieces left over. I returned them and they charged me a restocking fee. He overestimated the job by 30%. If there were just a few I would'nt complain, but the reason there was so many was his mistake. He was rude and said I mismeasured and it was my mistake. I asked to speak to his manager Jeremy who was just as rude and said they would not have made that mistake because they do it everyday. I am not a large customer but we spent $8000 the last month.we've had problems every step of the way. I have some more projects planned but will not do anymore with Menards

I have a huge problem that needs immediate attention.
We went to the store on E. Alexis in Toledo Ohio two weeks ago to order some Novabrik. We were told there was a full
pallet in the bargain area. We looked at, was the same color we wanted so we purchased that along with special ordering
two more pallets.
We were given a discount price on the pallet in the yard as it was a return. We had all three pallets delivered today, and
the pallet that we were told was full pallet, was not. We were flat out lied to. Called the store manager, Joshua Barrier, and he told
us to bad, nothing I can do for you. This is totally unacceptable, and I am requesting that Menards makes good on the
missing Novabrik by refunding the price of the missing briks. The total refund price would be around 240.00. I am confident that you will get this matter resolved in order to avoid any further action. By the way,
the pallet that we received the discount on was originally priced at the regular purchase price of 590.00
It has been two weeks and numerous emails to Menards corporate headquarters, and as of this writing nothing has been done.

Menards gave installers wrong carpet

my wife and i picked out carpet and paid for it, the installer went and picked it up and installed it, my wife and i got home and found out menards had given installer wrong carpet, installer already had furniture, doors and trim done.i went back to menards the following day and told them what happened, gave them the pick up slip and they acknowledge that they had made a huge mistake, i talked to three different managers there, they simply offered to replace the carpet if i brought the old carpet back, i let them know that i had paid almost 500.00 dollars to have this done and if menards was going to pay for the second installation, they got rude and laughed at me and said no it wasnt there responsibility, that i should have been there when the installer laid the new carpet, i then asked to have main office phone number and the one manager told me had to contact menards on the internet, and smuggly told me good luck when i told him i would just go talk to an attorney and find out how menards could make the mistake and i had to pay for it

Menards gas powered trimmer (lawn mower)

Purchased the unit brought it home. Went to use the trimmer and found out that they didn't include the Oil for the machine. Went to store and purchased oil for the motor and some gas.

Put the motor oil in and filled with gas. Read the booklet on the machine for running/starting. The booklet was different than the machine, the machine had an on off switch vs trottle. Tride to start machine, primed ect... machine didn't start after letting it set between pulls and primes didn't want it to flood. Did this about 30 minutes and went back to the booklet. Read about pulling spark plug (spark plug puller included with purchase). Pulled plug cleaned and replaced. Repeated above and got sick of playing with this new machine.

Brought back machine to menards and this is when true customer service came - I was told since I put gas in the machine they had to handle the return different. Couple people came up and started giving me a third degree on the mower - I told them the above and said I no longer want the machine since I have had all these issues. Continued to get the third degree... including the "manager of the department' telling me that I should have gapped the spark plug when I pulled it, and that everyone who owns and lawn mower should own a "SPARK PLUG GAPPER" I asked if the had a gapper and the guy told me that they had them for sale. I'm pissed off now as this has taken another 30 minutes. I said enough obviously they are not going to help what do I need to do, they told me I needed to to to North Dirkson with the mower. I then said the other store they said no another company. This added to my disbelief. I asked them if this company was open as it was Sunday they said they would check. I then said I wanted to talk with the manager. He said I am the manager, I said I want to talk to the store manager, he went to the phone and talked to someone. Came back a while later and said the manager said to do a refund. I never recieved any remarks from the Menards people on an apology for what their product put me through. My suggestion if they ever read this would be to offer to all their customers a "FREE SPARK PLUG GAPPER" as everyone should have one available.

Menards electric fireplace

Menards offered an electric fireplace for $275.00. Then the big 11% off period reduced it to $244.75. We bought two units. One for us and one for our daughter. Both remote control units worked for a week to ten days and both units failed.

The next time we were in the store, the unit is now offered at $232.00. I asked the clerk and he said that I should have gone to Lowe's. I called menards and asked for the name of the President. I was told that Menards is a privately owned company and that information is confidential. So, I wrote Menards addressing my letter to The President. I got a one line response that I was too late and had exceeded their 14 day maximum period of adjustment. Further, there was absolutely no reference to the issues we have with both of the remote controls.

Menards - ez click luxury vinyl plank

Product looked good in store. Directions are basic and skimpy and do not provide solutions for working planks under toe-kicks. "Lock" strips are falling off boards. When cutting, corners chip easily. When "lifting previous plank", almost the entire floor comes apart. Now I know I got what I paid for which was still too much with all these problems. If I...

Menards Merchandise Credit or Store Credit

12/19/2015 I return items I had purchased on 12/12/2015 with a debit card on 12/18/2015. I was asked if I wanted a store credit witch I accepted because I needed more items. I was not told that if I accepted store credit an used it for a purchased of more item that I could not get reimbursement to a debit card. On 12/19/2015 I returned the extra item I did not use that I had purchased on 12/18/2015. I was told I had to take a store credit instead of the full reimbursement to my debit card. I think Menard's could have given the amount back to my debit card. Menard's is using my money instead of retuning it. Menard's need to look at their business practice's

Menards turkey injector/no military discount

I went to your store in Morris IL and purchased a GE 1.6 CF microwave on sale for $175.00, Turkey fryer for $59.00, Bluetooth under counter radio for $30.00 and a turkey injector for $8. My main complaint is your store does not offer a military discount. All the other large stores of your genre do such as Lowes and Home Depot. They offer 10%. I am a veteran who just passed my 20 years service in the Army. I have deployed 4 times to the middle east. I also live on a strict budget. I assumed since Lowes and Home Depot offer the 10% your store would as well. I guess I won't be making that assumption again. It stinks to because your store is 20 miles closer. I will be sure to tell everyone I currently serve with and family members about my experience as well. I purchased almost $300 worth of merchandise and was counting on that $30.00 off. My other issue is I purchased the turkey injector that is distributed by grill shop. This injector didn't even have the needle in it. Now I don't have an injector to inject the turkey. I would appreciate anything you can do for me. I can take the injector back and exchange it but I shouldn't have to. I would appreciate your response to the no military discount issue. My name is Donald Wort 2753 e 2551 rd Marseilles IL [protected]

Menards employment

I worked as a cashier and quit without notice because I was sick of standing on my feet 7 or 8 hours 5 nights a week with few breaks if any and having to put up with complaining guests all the time. Many guests yell at the cashiers and the cashiers have no control over pricing or stocking or policies and apparently don't realize that yelling at cashiers gets nothing accomplished or changed. Was expected to work more than 8 hour shifts but when I said I wouldn't or couldn't, was put on closing shifts exclusively. They have not paid me my last check and blocked my access to my pay stubs. Wondering if they plan to accuse me of something. I did not steal from them but since drawers are not counted before or after you start cashiering, they could make it look like you stole and take the money themselves. I just walked out because I was fed up and had another employment opportunity that I felt I would like better and do. I do not recommend it as a good employment opportunity unless you are willing to give your whole life to them and play their little games, which apparently all the managers play and they try to pawn all their work off on the lower echelon. Training was minimal or rushed and often managers would tell you the answers to the online questions just to get you back to work quickly. It's all fairly dishonest if you ask me and if you want a good career in retail, this is probably not it.

I am a current employee and everything I have read here is 100 % accurate and true. I am a very hard working person with drive and excellent selling skills. When they hired me they told me they were looking for someone with excellent selling skills and the drive to move up within the company. I have received several selling skills rewards with other companies and I have worked for myself which requires going out there and selling. When you punch in at Menards it displays Sell, Sell, Sell on the clock display. In the year that I have worked for Menards I have been discouraged from selling and pushed towards downstocking, downstocking, downstocking. I never have handled so much freight in my life and barely had a chance to sell anything. They have kids right out of high school standing around in their 18-24 we don't do anything smug club managing older people with real bills, house payments, and kids to raise who need and want to work hard and earn an honest living. This place is a joke and not a funny one at that. These are peoples lives they are Fu*&%#& with. I have completed all of their advancement courses and passed with 100 % and I bring 25 years of selling and working experience to the table only to be shot down by some 18 year old snot nosed punk who has never had a job and spends all day texting on the phone. This my friends is the culture at Menards ! No I don't like it and Yes I am looking for another job but if you are considering a job with this company and you have a family and bills to pay and want to be treated fair I recommend you look somewhere else. I have had some had some bad jobs in my lifetime but this one sucks the most. If you are a young lazy snot nosed punk looking to bully hard working mature adults around and need the opportunity to advance with a company without trying to hard than this is the place for you. Low pay. unfair management practices, age discrimination, lie after lie after lie is what Menards has to offer good hard hones working people. I hope to be out of this disorganized hell hell-hole real soon .

Your right on. That's why I got a college degree and moved up in the world to a "grown-up" career than this "dead-end Job". I wish you good luck in your pursuit of a new job. Believe me, when you leave, you will feel like a human being again.

I agree with you. All in all, Menards is a "dead end retail job" that acts unprofessional toward employees, doesn't give them the tools or the training to succeed, and think they own you and your time. I would never recommend employment there! Overall, the corporate culture and the terrible management made the working environment very toxic, hostile, negative, and very stressful. The company still operates with a top down, fear-based management style where the workers are considered easily replaceable. There's no loyalty to the hard working employees. They allowed blatant examples of favoritism by superiors and verbal abuse of employees by customers and co-workers. They criticize your efforts by being rude to you and berating you. Micromanagement is a horrible issue with Menards which can be demoralizing and frustrating (especially when it gets in the way of the employee doing their job effectively and efficiently). Another big issue is that corporate penny pinches and cuts corners on everything and focuses more on catching mistakes then improving stores. Corporate expects a lot from employees, but offers little support to help them do their job efficiently. Corporate also set up some of the craziest, write up happy rules and attendance policy I've ever seen for a workplace. They are ruthless. If you make one minute mistake, your written up or even fired. Policies & procedures (half of which aren’t even followed) are ridiculously extensive and management is inconsistent in enforcing them. Overall, very low standards as far as promoting employees to jobs they are not qualified or trained to perform. I admired the culture of hard work at Menards, but the overall talent level of the company is lacking. Most people working there have very little education or no real world working experience outside of Menards. In general, the overall management is very unprofessional and incompetent and ran by people with no degrees or any knowledge of business what-so-ever. Most promotions into management are based on favoritism rather than on someone's qualifications. Managers are usually always irritated or annoyed, because corporate is always switching policies on them, auditing them, and other general nonsense. Management is only helpful when they want to be and there's no leadership from them. Basically, training is all on you between doing massive amounts of mundane training paperwork with little to no direction from management and the useless in-home training courses which is not paid for and voluntarily done on your own time at home (if your ever there). Benefits are a joke and hourly pay doesn't match the workload they expect of you. Basically, you will not have a work/life balance (especially managers) due to an outdated culture of all work and no play. Your schedule fluctuates (random hours each week), so you could never plan anything in advance. They have an unwritten policy that Menards is priority #1 (even over your health, family, home, attending college, or important obligations/tasks outside of work). It’s very obvious that their low prices come at the expense of their employees. All these cons resulted in a ridiculously high turnover rate. Thank goodness I found a better career with my college degree and don't have to work at this disorganized hell-hole.

Menards building materials, 2 x 6's, rafters, steel siding, garage doors, etc.

I built a 40 x 64' storage building with 16' walls. We bought everything we could from Menards as their sale prices became available. We have had nothing but nightmares trying to build with missing or misplaced materials that were special ordered. The organization of the the Special Order yard at the Bismarck store is a joke! They would have better luck having chimps organizing the yard. In our many trips to the store, we were assured of all materials being in the crates that we hauled to our building site. Each time, we discovered missing items and a return trip was needed to find those items. Our materials were in at least 6 different areas of the yard and could never be located by the staff that are blind in one eye and can't see out of the other. We had the bulk of our order delivered by Menards which the end rafters were broke and the steel siding where crushed, bent and scraped by someone who does not know how to run a forklift. I have called the store several times about the order and damage and was told that I would be contacted by the store manager asap. It has been about 1 and a half months since my first phone call and I am still waiting for their reply! I suggest going anywhere but Menards for any large projects or special order items. I will never go there again for such items.

Menards return of porch railing

I purchased railing for my deck. At the time of purchase the person installing The railing was with me and discussed the measurements of the railing. The menards employee said we needed a certain amount. My contracted disagreed. Employee insisted he was correct . I purchased the recommended amount and there were 20 rails not used at a value of 120 dollars. The store insisted I pay a 25 percent restocking fee even though it was there mistake. The manager would not listen only repeated that it would be a 25 percent restocking fee. This is a great racket and exploitation of the customer. This happened on 11/4/2015. I will be talking with the day manager but do not expect any resolution. This company is getting difficult to deal with. There are many times I go to lowes for there customer service. In fact I went to lowes when purchasing storm doors. Menards and lowes had the same door and I was buying other product at menards since lowes didinot have what I wanted. Menards would not honor the cheaper price that lowes sold for . The employee I was working with told me she had talked to the management about this before and they said no they would not price match. Menards will put them self out of business if this attitude is continued. The publics will get tired of getting robbed intentionally

Menards too many chiefs and not enough respect or educated managers

I worked as a cashier at Menard. A 7 hour day and a 5 hour. I was directed to clock out for my 10 minute breaks to use the restroom, climb stairs to sit down and rest my back and feet. I sat down I only had time to eat one chip take a couple drinks and back down the stairs to clock back in from a 10 minute break. Today I told them I was not happy.

Menards prevented urgent medical treatment

I have a serious complaint. Approximately July 30, 2015 I was injured while in the garden centre of Menards in International Falls, MN. The guard at the gate refused to call for any sort of medical help, or even get the manager of the store despite the fact that my head and face were dripping blood and badly injured. I was crying and I pleaded for her to call for help. I said "Help me, I have to get to a hospital...please help!" She did nothing to help me. We were standing face to face and she clearly saw my injuries but she did nothing to help.

Then this guard refused to let me leave until she could count the product in my vehicle. I'm sitting there dripping blood all over myself with my right eye closing up from swelling. I had a severe head injury and shouldn't have been driving anywhere but I knew I needed to get to a hospital. I just kept screaming at her to open the gate..."Let me get to a hospital please!" I could not believe she was not calling anyone for help.

I was finally able to leave and drove through the parking lot before realizing my vision was blurry and I was so badly shaken that I should not be driving. Somebody else drove me to the hospital where I was diagnosed with a concussion, various head and neck bruises, injured eye socket, and cuts and abrasions to my face and arm.

These guards may not be employees but they are agents of Menards. They are hired by the company to work the gate. I will continue speaking out in public and to any agency that will listen until I get a satisfactory response from Menards. First off I would like an apology for the fact that this guard prevented me from receiving urgent medical care, and for not calling an ambulance. Secondly this employee should not be allowed to work the gate at Menards any longer. It has been several weeks and I am still suffering from neck and head injuries and migraines which likely would not have been as bad if I was helped right at the store to lay down or sit still until an ambulance arrived. Perhaps these guards and other employees need to be properly trained on how to use a phone to call 911. The treatment I received is completely unacceptable. I am attaching a picture of my face and head.

Menards handicapped person access

The store has only (1) one electric scooter for the handicap to use. I have repetedly requested that they purchase more scooters by filing a complaint all the way there corporate headquarters.
The last 3 times i drove the 12 miles from dixon to sterling i had to go back home without buying anything- - -no electric cart available. So i went on line and made my 2nd. Purchase with home depot on the internet.
Menards is generating business for their competition because for their continued resusal to provide more than (1) one electric cart.
Check out wal-mart to see how it is really done!

Evidently the above comment was submitted by someone who has something to do with Menards or someone who does not have any form of a disability. Congratulations to you if you don't have any. But one day unfortually something could happen to you to cause you to have some form of a disability. Sure you may afford to purchase a motor scooter of your own, but a lot of people with disabilities can't afford them and depend on these mega stores to help them shop.

Menards don maxon

Beware of Don Maxon who works as a Manager at the North location in Lincoln Ne.He absolutely has no business being any kind of a manager.

He treats the employees and customers very rude. I have seen him be little his employees in front of customers. He is very immature individual. A bad manager can take a good Staff and destroy it causing the best employees to flee and the remainder to lose all motivation.

It is time to get rid of Don Maxon. The employees do not care for him what's so ever.

I totally agree.donald Maxon is a horrible manager. He needs to go work in a fast food joint slinging hamburgers and fries, , don Maxon who works at the North 27th Mernards in Lincoln Ne is a very disrespectful manager. He makes the rudest comments to his employers. He belittle's them like they are a child. He has even been rude to the employees in front of the customers.. Let's hope they have enough spence to actually get rid of Mr.Donald Maxon.

Menards the seller provided fake info about the order

I ordered some tools and supplies for the garden from the company www.menards.com. These jerks took the order and provided the approximate date of the delivery. But it was total ###. The seller simply hasn’t sent my order and all provided info was fake. They are liars and scammers, and I want to find other deceived customers, who lost money. Please we need to stop this company and return our money. Post your comments.

Menards annual contractor rebate

I haven't received my annual contractors rebate (contractors card) I asked customer service at the store and was told to call number on the back of the card. Apparently Capital One handles their credit card accounts. After a 1/2 hour of pushing buttons on phone I was told to call another number. No help, just recordings of free offers by Capital One. I was never able to speak to a real person. Now what do I do?

Ordered items online for store pick-up. At the check out screen, after entering personal information, the totals show $7 fee for in store pick-up handling. This is ridiculous! Other stores promote the in-store pick-up service. It is insane for Menards to charge for this. I did not place the order.

If you wait years and years to return an item, it may have been discontinued and is no longer in their computer system since they no longer sell it. People unfortunately think that because they buy something they can return it when it stops working a long time later. Honestly, sometimes you get what you pay for!

If you have your receipt, how can they claim an item is not in their system?
