The reason i have decided to sumit this complaint is to prevent anyone else from having to go through this much trouble with a company. I must say it was quite simple to aquire a loan from medicard the problem lies in the fact its almost impossible to pay off the loan. I had phoned in a month ago asking what the best way to pay them. A fax needed to be sent stating the amount to be withdrawled from my account and signed. So, i sent in the fax. On the date the full amount was to be taking out only the usual monthly amount was taking. So, after a week i spoke with a employee who was very understanding but otherwise un - helpful. He said he would have the money taking out asap and would call the next day to confirm. He never called me back nor did anyone else. Two weeks later i call again and speak with a female employee who says she will have the money taking out and will make sure no interest will be added from the time that i have been waiting for the money to be taking out. About 2 hours later i recieve a call from the manager "pierre" who rudely informs me that they can take the money out but i will have to pay the interest up till the time it will be took out! I really dont care about paying $20 or so dollars but the fact that i have been calling and speaking with pretty much everyone in the company and "pierre" is making it seem like this was my fault. All in all medicard is a joke of a company that no one should ever use.

I feel same way the website does not tell customers all the information so i phoned today to find out my balance and my loan was 1679 from last year but up to today its still at 1621 how is that possible? No one tells you they add on 6% i found out today they hide all info on their website its a scam and rip off they just want money so they do not explain anything i spoke to lady when i applied she never even mentioned on the phone how it is and what to expect. They do this deliberately in case customer says no.What a scam.

After reading these comments I have decided as well to tell you a little about my experience.
In my case, I was not a client of theirs, but a victim of fraud.

Back in 2009, I go on and complete my routine yearly credit report and notice a a company called Medicard - never heard of them. I immediately called and the first person I spoke with (they asked my name) asked me when will I be paying my $5, 500.00 loan. I said I have no loan with them, and insisted that I was approved for a loan for a breast augmentation surgery done 4 months before. After arguing I asked to speak with a supervisor and then Pierre came on the phone (I remember this like it was yesterday... french accent). He was so so rude . I asked them I wanted to see my application, they refused saying they can not do it for security purposes. What?!?!
Long story short... I lived in an apartment building a few months before and someone probably grabbed an envelope with my name and address. They did not have my Date of Birth or SIN or ID.
Apparently I was a co-signer... I managed to get a copy of the ID used... it was a immigration ID (I was born in Canada). You couldn't see a face, it was too dark and the person had short and super curly (kind of like afro hair) which is opposite for me. I have always had super straight and long hair.
They had a fake ID, a name and address and nothing else and the loan got approved! They did ask me for my signature to prove it's not me... and they admitted it is not the same signature
On top of that, it took at least 3-4 weeks to clear it up and removing from my credit report. I had to add a fraud alert note on my Equifax and Transunion to avoid future fraud.
I received a collection letter 1 week after this all started... but I found out through the credit report earlier. Everyone should check their report once a year.
That was such a bad experience... They clearly approve loans very easily without checking much.

I had applied and gotten approved for $7, 500 over a 60 months term, I had asked them to reduce it to 24 months. I had been making my payments on time, every month for 13 months until I lost my job. I asked them to hold the payments for a month or two until I was able to get myself back on my feet. They refused and told me they would still withdraw the money and if it doesn't go through, then too bad, I'd have to pay NSF charges. I called my bank and stopped the payments for 2 months (as I had originally requested Medicard). They started calling and harassing me 2-3 times a day asking me to remove the stop payment immediately. I politely told them each time that I am in between jobs and will pay as soon as I land another one. They accessed my credit file (no problem), saw that I have a car financed under my name and asked me to stop making car payments to pay them. I told them, I will lose my car, how does that make sense? They told me to sell it then (?). Fast forward to a few weeks later, I found a new job and updated my LinkedIn. Within a few days, they must have been checking my profile, they called me at my office to see if I work there and when I asked them how they got this number or how they knew I worked there, they hung up on me. I called them back and asked to speak to a manager, I landed on the famous Jenny, who threatened me by saying if I don't make payments today, it won't be good for me. Needless to say, they are a horrible company and ridiculous to deal with. I had another year left on my term, so I cashed out my investments to pay them off and get rid of them. At the end of the day, it's their loss. Had they been a little patient, the payments would have resumed and they would have made more money (interest) off of me. Too bad for them.

K seems like everyone signed the first set of papers that they were given I don’t think there are issues but I didn’t just sign the papers they originally gave me... 17.5 %interest or higher right ? Well I called them and got 8% seems like people just screwed themselves not the company ...

I applied with Medicard in February and was approved for $6000. I booked my consultation with my Doctor in March and booked my surgery for May. After the consultation, I called Medicard and they told me my application had expired. I asked how that was possible as I only applied in February and was told that the loans were good for 3 months. They said I would have to reapply. Now I've re-applied and am only approved for $2000. I have already paid $1500 towards my surgery as a deposit so now I'm out that money and can no longer get my surgery. I am extremely upset.

i applied to get a loan to have my cat seen at a vet. i was preapproved for the loan. I sent a void check and my Id, they got back to me and said that I needed a date for my cat to see the vet, which I did and told them so. They said they would call the vet to confirm then send me documents to sign. i am still waiting for those documents. anyways what kind of company is this that they are not organized..getting frustrated.

This company is horrible. I would be ashamed to work for them. My life is in a complete state of disaster because of them.
My lawyer found flaws in there contract and they are pulling some shady stuff. But of course they’ve made sure I don’t have a spare dime to actually hire the lawyer to fight it. STAY FAR FAR AWAY!

This company is a total rip off and a legal shark operation...stay away at all costs! You pay double in interest and I was actually lied to in the initial call...I was told 7% and it was actually 14%. When I asked why I was not getting paper statements nor access to my account onlline I was told that statements were not part of the companies business model. If folks saw each month how they were getting ripped off more would catch on just how corrupt medicard is! Stay away...learn from our mistakes!

I cancelled it the next day payment was sent and was told I would have to pay interest . I was fine by that, but they didn't tell me it be $400 dollars for the money I didn't even use . So everyone please stay away from these crooks and go to bank and get money from them, which I should have done in a first place .

5 years ago i received 3000$ with petcard. For 5 years I have paid 79$ a month to this company. Every month calling to request a statement to better track my progress on paying off this ridiculous debt.
I still to date have never received a statement.
Two months back I asked for my balance and the guy on the phone informed me that still owed a remaining balance of 2000$!
Which made no sense as I had agreed to a 5 year payment plan. He then explained that when I changed (changed not missed) a payment date a year back that defaulted my contract from a 19 percent interest to a 28 percent interest rate...essentially adding an additional year and a half of payments.
I requested yet again my statement to reflect this...and he rudely stated "you received a contract, maybe you should have read it"
I put a stop payment on my bank account and flat out refused to give them another dime until I received my statement.(my legal right)
Keeping in mind by now I have paid my balance plus an additional 2000$ in interest as it is. That is when the rude collection calls began. This company has gone as far as hunting me down on my LinkedIn account to find out where I work to call me at work stating they were confirming my employment in order to sue me...(which is beyond harassment)
I strongly hope they bring me to court I would love to see them stumble over there explanation to a judge on their shady business practices...however I strongly doubt they will progress any farther with this.
we shall see.

The above comments have not been my experience at all. The loan was very easy to obtain as stated above, however, the payout was just as easy. A quick call and they took it from my account the next day. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful and very professional. I would use them again if I was in a similar situation. I will say that the interest is very high, however, no higher than a department store card and I agreed to the interest rate when I signed the contract. In order to be approved I needed to provide my information with photo ID and my banking information. Without the photo ID nothing would be approved. I took a loan out for two years and paid it out in two months. Although I paid almost as much payout as I originally borrowed I was aware going in of the interest rate and what that would mean. It is our responsibility as consumers to be educated in our loan choices. Meaning we need to be aware of what the interest rates are and what that means. If we do not do these things we are responsible for the outcome not someone else. As far as moving bank accounts before checking with the company you owe money to to ensure the loan is paid in full, is irresponsible and to think that paying $8 more than you originally borrowed means you have completed your obligations of your loan is foolish. Bottom line, if you are not sure how a loan works it is up to you to learn. Your credit is your responsibility not someone with whom you have a contract. Read, read, read. It is up to you to know what you are signing up for. Yes, there is interest on any loan that you take out. No you do not get to borrow the money for free. Yes you will pay more than what you borrowed. Yes the interest rate is high, that is why it is up to you to do your homework. If you do not want to pay the high interest, don't. Get your loan elsewhere, however, for those people, like myself that did not have time to make an appointment, go to the bank, wait for approval and then wait for the funds, this is an amazing opportunity. I am grateful to Medicard and the staff there. Especially a certain individual, he knows who he is. Thank you for making this very difficult time in my life so much easier and helping to restore my fur baby to full health. I have no further obligations with this company and have received a letter of discharge.

Thank you for the warning. My son telephoned me today to co-sign an $1100. Medicard loan for paying his cat's vet bill for an amputation following being hit by a car. I rang the 1-888 number and was asked to provide details of my pension income. I delayed them and went to this site. Thank goodness. The way I plan to deal with it is to get him a bank loan for the amount and set it up that he pays for it at his branch of the Bank of Montreal. I would certainly advise dealing with a chartered bank rather than some shyster American finance company.

This is an awful company, we applied for a loan and got approved but yet they wanted a visa card ?!?!? What legit financial institution would prompt you to go through all the stresses of getting credit, during such a hard time .telling you its all approved and just before releasing the loan asking for a credit card as a backup . this company and the people who founded this should burn in hell, everything that was said on the website was absolutely wrong ! Don't do it !

I am a victim of this company, I took a loan for $508 dollars and i have paid as of July 2014 (10 months at 51.66 monthly payments) =$516 .So i change my bank account thinking this was paid fully, But to my surprise they keep trying take another $150 out of my old bank account .Also they try to charge me the $34 dollar service fee for NSF in that account.

Too top it all off they keep phoning me only wanting the bank account number for the new account, I keep requesting them to send proof of what i have paid and what the interest is they are charging, But no i get SEND THE ACCOUNT INFO yelled at me,

We as Canadians should not have to deal with companies that will not send out info on what we owe, Think if VISA, MasterCard tried this ?

I used Medicard for my pets. On August 9 2014 after having shots for my cat I was told by the receptionist that Medicard was not authorizing transactions for Saskatchewan residents! I asked to speak to the company representitive on the phone but he was unable to provide any explanation as to why. I then spoke to a manager who told me that there were "adjustments suddenly thrust upon the company" that had to be implemented and that they were not sure when their PetCard could be used in Saskatchewan again. I asked why letters or notices were not sent to their customers. He said they called on July 4th which was a lie. They also said this adjustment period occurred two months prior to Augusugust 9...which is all together illogical. I have never heard of such a thing from a company...very shady, poorly run and from what I have been reading unscrupulous behaviour.

I almost went with these crooks! I got approved to borrow $8000 for a IVF payment. After getting the contract via email I went over it soon discovered all the outrageous charges and interest rates that I've never seen so high. As high as 28%! My total cost at the end of the loan was $17, 800. How do these people get away with this! Please try other ways if you can sometimes you can't but these idiots rob you!

We borrowed $17, 000 and paid it all back within 3 months and that cost us over $2000! I had to payout over $500 more than I borrowed after paying them about $1500 in that 3 months! That's absurd! I will never go to them again nor will I recommend them to anyone! Talk about kicking you when you're down! That's highway robbery! They said 19% interest! Paying about $10 a day in interest still doesn't amount to $2000 in 3 months! If you are thinking of getting a loan there, try elsewhere! They are loan sharks of the worst kind!

I completely agree. Worst, worst, worst company to ever go with. Don't ever come into financial distress with these guys cause they will in now way work with you at all! You will hear different things from the different people you talk to, I almost feel like making a stop payment with my bank account and sending them in money so at least I won't ha e an accumulation of NSF charges to pay my bank as well as them. Complete garbage company. So easy to get a loan with these guys but they will in no way work with you. I can't wait to pay these guys and get them put of my life!

I borrowed $17, 000.00 and am paying back $31, 000.00 in total. That's $14, 000.00 that Medicard is making off of me. I have paid $19, 500.00 so far. Sometimes my payments are late, but it ends up getting paid within a few days or weeks, plus they also charge me another $30.00 for each NSF fee and my bank also charges me $40.00. My loan is split up into four different accounts so if all four payments are late it costs me an extra $280.00 that month, on top of my payment of $540.00... needless to say, I don't intentionally make late payments! So, ...a few months ago I had a decrease in income. I contacted Medicard, explained my situation and asked if we could work out a payment plan which would fit my new budget. This way I wouldn't default on my payments and Medicard would still be paid the money I owed them. They flat-out refused to assist me. I began missing payments. I tried to reason with them again. They ordered me to send all of my financial info - income statements, bills, and a monthly budget. I faxed them everything they requested which clearly showed that my expenses were more than my income. They refused to assist me again. I have received many rude phone calls, nasty voice-mails, letters and emails. I have dealt with eight different people over the past few months as they keep passing around my file, and each time I have to re-explain everything (even though it is all documented in my file) then I am humiliated all over again. I am still making payments (about half of what I should be paying each month plus the NSF charges) and am still dealing with the soulless jerks that work at Medicard. Trust Me--- you DO NOT want to deal with these people. This loan company will rip you off and treat you like absolute garbage!

I don’t understand though... they have every right to uphold the contract you agreed to, they are not obligated to accommodate you. Don’t get me wrong, if I was in your position, I definitely would’ve tried to negotiate something with them as well but you knew about NSF funds and whatnot when you signed up. It seems you’re taking absolutely no responsibility for the fact that you are failing to make your payments, and that isn’t the fault of the company. This being said if im in your position months from now I assume from your post that they won’t accommodate me, which sucks, but I’m willing to take that chance as my jobs are stable.

I totally agree NEVER NEVER apply for Medicard! It is a rip off to people and does not help them but put people in serious more debt. My son got a medi card loan ( which I co-signed for) for surgery on his dog. The loan was for 2120.00. He has paid on that loan for 19 months and last night they call and said his payment was NSF. I asked for the pay out on his loan and they told my it was 1688.92! I went on "on line banking" with my bank and paied the loan off. I phoned them this morning and told them I had paid it off and she told me that that would not pay the balance as there is 1.15 added everyday until the money reaches them.So I asked her how I would know how much to send to pay it off, she told me I sould just make another payment (62.92). I told her I was not going to make another payment because I would not owe them that much, she was very very rude! How can you pay on a 2120.00 loan and pay over 1195.00 over19 months and still owe 1688.92? These people are ripping people off!

It’s funny a lot of people have the same complaint. Loan to be paid off, company takes the information but somehow doesn’t follow through taking payment and then threatens clients with big interest charges etc? Anne is this how you made you millions? You’re a loan shark 😂

I also have the same complaint as above, you cannot pay them back over the amount you originally agreed too. They will penalize you if you pay by telebank, online bank, cash, etc for a fee of $30 dollars EVERY TIME. Also, they will sign you up for the 5 year pack back period so they can make money off the interest. Oh and once you start paying it back they collect their fee for provding the money FIRST (the amount depending on your loan amount) and then the interest before the money you contribute to your payments would go to the principle of the debt. I was given the max interest rate and at 19 % so totally not worth it with EXCELLENT CREDIT. I WOULD NEVER BORROW FROM MEDICARD AGAIN.
Take a personal line of credit from your bank.
