This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

Less than 18 months after delivery, our little used maytag washer failed. it would not fill with water properly, agitated the clothes dry and deposited water onto clothes already spun dry.
the maytag repairman replaced the "water level and temperature controller switch" (part #w10248240) during a 15 minute visit for a cost of $170.55, almost half the cost of the washer after rebates.
the repairman stated that this part fails frequently as there was a manufacturing defect and the parts are now made by a supplier in the us rather than in china as was originally the case. he also stated that he has replaced this same part up to 3 times in the same washers.
I called, e-mailed and wrote maytag for some sort of adjustment but was refused. customer service insists on the 12 month warranty and refuses to help even though there is evidence of a widespread serious manufacturing defect in this sensor relay.
my understanding is that this sensor relay is present in other models of maytag/whirlpool as well.

I own the Maytag Centennial Commercial Technology MVWC6ESWW1 washer...what a piece of junk! W10248240 Water Level and Temperature Controller has been replaced by service man THREE times in 2 years...all at my expense. Calls to Maytag "customer representatives" yielded NO positive results. I asked for a replacement part be sent to me as replacement is very easy...based on on-line video... Maytag's response was a "repairman" must replace this item...and I have to pay for service call (about $140 last time).
For all this I'd give Maytag and their products a "0" on a ten-point scale for reliability and service.

BE WISE...DON'T PURCHASE A MAYTAG!

Had an old Kenmore that was about 20 years old or more, finally decided to buy a new one & got a Maytag, what a mistake that was, nothing but junk . Was so noisy had to shut the door, wouldn't rinse & spin right, clothes got tangled on the agitator. Only had this about 2 years (a new one) bought the last one used & had it 12 years, Will Never Buy Another Maytag !

I'm done. After years of dealing with the intermittent problems with our Maytag MVWC6ESWW1 washer ... issues that have been well documented on this complaint board ... we've moved on and purchased a washer from a competitive manufacturer. This Maytag unit was only 5 years old and began to give us grief one month after it fell out of warranty. We're replaced the Water Level and Temperature Controller twice now. When washer began giving us trouble again about two months ago, I contacted Maytag to see if the defective controllers have been resolved. I sent an email to Maytag Digital ... 2 weeks with no response. Sent a letter to Whirlpool/Maytag ... 4 weeks with no response. Lodged a formal complaint with my state attorney general ... to which Whirlpool responded: "We've been trying to reach him". Right, sure. It's been another week of phone tag with someone in the executive office at Whirlpool and still, no one from Whirlpool/Maytag wants or cares to respond to me. So, I'm done. I'd like to say it's been nice knowing you Maytag, but it hasn't. Farewell, once proud brand ...

I have a Maytag Centennial Commercial washer that I bought around 2010. and it its a piece of junk. Have had problems with it since day one. Initially it would not wash the clothes. Half of the clothes would be dry. For the last couple of weeks water just pours into the washer from the cold outlet and I have to be there to cut off the water when it hits drain cycle or the clothes will be too wet to put into the dryer. I have just bought another washing machine and you can bet it is not a Maytag!

Purchased in Dec 2009 from Home Depot on sale for $279.00 and I have had 3 service calls. Maybe I should not complain, however your post above on resetting my machine worked perfectly. I paid $79.95 yesterday for a repairman to come out and tell me the dial to select the wash cycle and temp button should both be replaced. Cost was over $400.00. I said no and paid the service call fee. I started my research today online for my Maytag Centennial machine and came across your FIX. My husband did it and started a load of towels and I was a MIRACLE! It worked! Thank you Baron Easterling for sharing your information with all of us. Hope I can do this with my daughters Maytag too!

I have been repairing appliances over 40 years, I can tell you from experience what parts fail more often than not due to poor engineering and manufacturing and what parts fail due to customer abuse.
This model washer and others like it in this series has had this problem since day one.
I have replaced dozens of switches on these washers.
This problem should have been recalled long time ago.
If more repairmen would complain about this issue something could have been done, instead they line their pockets at the expense of customers rather than manufacturer.

Honestly is my best policy it should be theirs.
Maytag the dependability people is no more and the lonely Maytag repairman is busy 24/7 lying to customers.

i think Maytag should have a recall for all there appliances hat break down like mine did model #mvwc6esww1 i have duck taped the top back on because it shook its self all over and smashed the surrounding walls at one point ripped the water lines and flooded the room this is the last washing machine that will have Maytag on it in my house i will never ever buy a Maytag product again and i think i will look in to any product even associated with your organization i now need to replace the Water Level and Temperature controller Switch" (Part #W10248240) again for the 4th time if i wish to keep using this washer and dryer set i payed way to much to use already for Maytag really wanted to keep there customers they would fix or send the customers the replacement parts for free not at a rebate free

I also have a Maytag Washer but... Did you know they ALL work on the same mode ?
did you also know that, YOU CAN RESET THE WASHER *MANUALLY*, which will resolve numerous issues especially the infamous SPIN CYCLE/WET CLOTHES issue !

Here's the sequence:

1- Turn the selector knob ( clockwise ) to the (*NORMAL SPIN MODE), and pull knob out to start the cycle.
2- With the SPIN CYCLE running, LIFT & CLOSE THE MACHINE LID (3) TIMES...but, on the third time, leave the lid closed and allow the machine to continue the spin cycle for about 10 seconds.., PUSH THE SELECTOR KNOB IN TO STOP THE CYCLE.
3- TURN THE SELECTOR KNOB (clockwise) around the dial, back to the (*NORMAL SPIN MODE) and pull the selector knob out, starting the spin cycle again... your machine should be working properly know... (but additional steps MAY be required, depending on your model, see below)..

...NOTE...NOTE...NOTE...NOTE...NOTE...NOTE...NOTE...NOTE...
* DEPENDING ON YOUR MODEL, (this applies to numerous Maytag Centennial models, which I do not list) you may have to take additional steps manually:

Here's THAT sequence:

1- REPEAT STEPS 1 THROUGH 3 (shown above)
2- After performing STEP 3, PUSH SELECTOR KNOB IN TO STOP THE SPIN CYCLE, and turn the selector knob (clockwise) to the (*CASUAL SPIN CYCLE), and once again repeat the same sequence you performed in *normal mode, only do this for the (*CASUAL SPIN CYCLE) this time...
3- As shown above in step 3.. ON THE (3) TIME CLOSING THE LID "LEAVE IT CLOSED" and allow the *casual spin cycle to continue running for about 10 seconds.
4- PUSH THE SELECTOR KNOB IN, TO STOP THE *casual spin cycle and turn the selector knob (clockwise) to the cycle of your choice.

YOUR MACHINE SHOULD NOW BE WORKING PROPERLY... you may now call the expensive repair guy and cancel the appointment !

NOte: you might wanna copy these instructions before they're deleted off the internet, by unknown sources...Hmmmmm?

I've had my model MVWC6ESWW1 for almost 6 years and not had problems. Now, however, when i pull the Start knob to turn on the machine, in addition to filling with water, it starts agitating immediately. Also the clothes are too wet at the end of the cycle forcing me to run it through Spin again. Anyone having this problem?

I bought the MVWC6ESWW1 Maytag washing machine on 4/27/2010 from Home Depot. I am replacing the same part (W1028240) for at least the third time. The other times before, the washer was under a service contract but it expired in 2013. What an awful piece of equipment. I will NEVER buy Maytag again. They do not stand behind their products. I had to buy the part today and they "gave" me a "courtesy" discount of 10%! What a great thing they did...really? And $16.00 for shipping. I am changing the part out this time because I can't afford to have a service person come out, take off work, etc. When it comes to changing that same part again, I will buy another brand of washer because by then I would have half paid for and still have this terrible piece of equipment. Awful awful awful...there should be recall on this. I had a washing machine that lasted almost twenty years...this one is 5 years...it'll never make 7 years...what a waste of hard earned money.

Knock on the Temperature Knob, as uf knocking on a door. I Read that it can be a temporary fix until you are able to, replace that part.

I tried the Knock Trick on the knob and it worked. but UNLIKELY TO PURCHASE WHIRLPOOL or MAYTAG AGAIN! Very disappointed with the Company and its products 😩

A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE 4 their comments about the Faulty Temp Switch! VERY HELPFUL ☺ I thought it was the timer at first or something to do with a sensor, or the extra rinse option knob. Called a repair shop they said it Could be the Transmission! Inwas stressed, somi hope to be able to tell the tech what it is so hopefully hevcan get the part at a good cost so I can get it replaced 1st visit and not have to schedule a follow up visit if it's not a lengthy repair process, which I gave read prior comments it not... whichbis GOOD NEWS. I am also going to the Better Business Beareau WEBSITE (www.wbbb.com) and file a complaint also putting a link to this page 4 reference so hopefully they can help others on this page having the same issues . I also, posted how Unhappy inam with Maytag in hopes to get them to and others to see theres a problem!

We purchased the Maytag Centennial Model # MVWC6ESWW1 from Lowes in November 2009 and the machine has given us nothing but trouble. It is a piece of crap and this past week decided to break down once again. We have replaced the gear case, clutch, sub-switch and timing switch. We did purchase the extended warranty but forgot to renew it last November so we are now on the hook for the repairs. I HATE THIS MACHINE and would NEVER, EVER purchase ANY MAYTAG product again. MAYTAG appliances are worthless.

Well ...we have the same piece of garbage. (MVWC6ESWW1) about 4 years old. (Water level sensor switch) ? replaced 4 times now! "Maytag" denies being aware of ANY problems/complaints with this mod. YOU"VE GOT TO BE KIDDING! even the repairman knows my name now. We also purchased the matching dryer ... not much better. Waiting for 2nd repair for not drying(most likely the heating elements)again. AND ...we only avg. about 3 1/2 loads per week

I too have Maytag Centennial "Commercial Tech" washer model MVWC6ESWW1, bought in 3/2010. I have been able to "play" with my Centennial to get it to work: unplug it for awhile, adjust knobs; however, the malfunction does seem to be "increasing" in frequency (it’s happened at least 2-3 times in the past 6 months.) Two pieces of information I found online that might be helpful are this: do NOT open the lid while the machine is operating (for those who were "lucky" enough to buy the earlier models before the lid lock function took over on top-loaders.) If you need to open the lid before the cycle ends, stop the machine first. Apparently a tech on another site mentioned that opening the lid while the machine is operating without stopping the cycle by pushing the timer knob in can cause an "arc" that can burn out the ATC-temp/water level control switch that is being replaced so often. There's no doubt that there is a serious defect/problem with this switch and a high failure rate. Another piece of advice on this issue is that is does appear to be a relatively simple DIY project that can save you up to 50% on your repair cost if you are a confident DIYer.To Bonneylaurie: to override the water level sensor, in the owner's manual (at least for the model I have) if you open the lid more than once after the cycle begins it will automatically override the sensor to fill the tub to max level as it "assumes" you have added more clothes.Compared to most of the complaints I read online, my problem (agitating before/while filling with water and wetting clothes after final spin) started this year (just shy of 4 years of ownership). It's still disturbing to me that I have owned this for such a short period of time compared to my last Maytag Performa Super Capacity Washer that lasted 13 years before "acting up." In retrospect, like others complaining about the Centennial, I wish I would have just spent the money to repair my previous washer. I thought the money I would spend to repair would be as much or more to buy a new machine and I wanted to take advantage of the incentives to buy "Energy Star" and supposedly a newer/better machine. I too, went with Maytag believing in the original business model of "dependability." It didn’t bother me that Whirlpool took over Maytag because I have a Whirlpool Gas Dryer I purchased with my prior Maytag Performa washer that is still going strong. I just replaced the motor this year at a cost of about $395, which was half the cost of buying a new dryer. My dryer is 17 years old. The tech who replaced my motor ( a Sears Tech ) told me NOT to replace my dryer with a newer one!I guess all manufacturers are just not making the quality products they used to make decades ago.As for me, I will go through the trouble to repair, for the time being, if it's only the temp/level switch. I already know that there is no machine manufactured now that I can buy that will do what I want. I will NOT buy a front loader for various reasons and all top loaders now appear to come standard with a "lid-lock" function that disables the ability to add clothes mid-cycle. Also, I cannot see spending nearly $1000 for a new machine that will probably malfunction after 1 year.

I have the same washer with the same problems. Water sensor doesn't work, machine just keeps filling regardless of load size. Agitator is literally "dead" machine just fills then empties, no action between. Water temp sensor doesn't work, water is cold regardless of temp I set. I suppose "cold" does less damage than "hot.". I had an old Maytag for more than 25 years and was sorry to see it go. This one is a piece of [censored]. Based on what I've read here about the amount of money people are spending on service calls and parts that break repeatedly, I'm just going to cut my losses and replace this expensive piece of crap. In the long run, it will cost less to buy a new machine that actually works than a Chinese piece of [censored]! This time I'm buying an American-made machine!

Update on my washer - no response from the community person that I communicated with last year. Called their customer service and they wanted to charge me for a service call. Was debating putting in another switch vs. buying a new washer. While looking up the part on Amazon, one of the comments for the W10248240 had this tip, "Remove the switch, disconnect the air supply tube and blow in it to make sure it is clear. Next gently tap the switch against a solid surface and then reassemble."

I did this and washer is working correctly (for now). Hope this helps some of you!

I am unable to get the tub to fill up properly to cover a medium sized load. VERY FRUSTRATED with this since it seems that clothes are not washing or rinsing as they need to be. This was sold to me as being top of the line in wash quality. Can I adjust the water level?

Look at previous posts - I replaced my W10248240 load sensing switch almost exactly one year ago. Guess what! Doing same thing. Leaves water at end of spin cycle. I'll see if Maytag will do anything to make it right, but guess it is time to buy a new washer. Awesome, a washer that lasts about 3 years (bought 4/2010, first failure 6/2013, second failure 6/2014). What a piece of junk! I'll update if I get any satisfaction...

This seems to be happening for quite a while and no one is doing anything to rectify the situation from Maytag. I am dealing with the same problem. The clothes are wet after the final cycle. You would think Maytag would do a recall and replace the sensor or at least give you a discount on the part. Appliances are definitely not as durable as they were years ago and having to replace a washer every 3-4 years is crazy. Is that class action lawsuit still ongoing? Tired of issues that should not be occurring in a product that is used constantly.

I too got dooped into buying this piece of junk. Bought at Home Depot back in March 2010 for $450. Worked ok for about two years, then problems with the water level, became really loud during agitation, clothes getting ripped, clothes coming out wet. Finally decided to go buy a new energy efficient LG. I will give Maytag Customer Service a call to see if I can get any kind of help. Otherwise, it would be nice to join the class action suit.

I bought this washer in 2009 and noticed the problem 3-4 years later. The agitator would start while it was still filling and then like others mentioned the cycle went out of whack. It would spin dry and it's supposed to stop but it actually starts refilling with water for a few seconds. And then it stops, leaving the clothes wet and water in the washer. I would then have to set the machine to a cycle that didn't have the extra rinse cycle to spin dry. Another fix (which may be temporary since I've had to do this several times) is to unplug the machine for while and then plug it back in.

I hate the washer and when my sister in law was looking to buy a washer and saw a newer model on sale at Home Depot, I told her to steer clear. I thought Maytag washers were supposed to be reliable but I'm not buying any of their products ever again.

My maytag centennial isn't even two years old, with very little use, and the control board has failed already, repair man said it would be 419.00 to repair. My last washer was over 10 years old, and never had a problem, I paid over 500.00 for the maytag, and if the locking switch is bad too, it will cost more like 500.00 to fix it. I will never buy another maytag again, I hope there is a class action suite for this lemon.

I have the same horrible washing machine! I bought in 2010, however didn't start using till 2011. Now in 2014 I am going on the 3rd! time replacing the sensor. When I called Maytag the manager had the gall to tell me it was MY responsibility to purchase the extended warranty or fix any issues! I asked him how he would feel if he bought a product and after 3 years had to keep fixing the same issue and then the company basically told him it was now his issue even though it was OBVIOUSLY the products issue. He addimitadly said he would be frustrated, however they couldn't do anything to help me. It seems like Maytag no longer making quality products! I will NEVER buy a Maytag product again. My husband builds speck houses that he used to fill with Maytag applicances which he will no longer be doing

I also purchased this same Maytag Washer Model # MVWC6ESWW1. and within the firdst year the water sensor went out and no water would come in and it was under warranty. The repairman said the same thing, that he replaces these sensors frequently in these washers. I agree that my clothes do NOT come clean and the agitator runs without any water then it will put some water in and when I left the lid to check on it, there is not enough water to even cover the clothing and it was washing! It does not remove the lint from the clothing and I cannot find the lint filter like I had in my old washer. If I could afford it, I would definitely replace it! I thought I was the only one with this problem until I found this site. These washers should be RECALLED!

I also purchased this piece of junk. When it does operate it tears clothes EVEN jeans! We have replaced the W10248240 switch. The automatic load leveler/temp sensor is the most annoying thing I have ever seen. Sometimes it will take 10mins to "sense". It is labeled Energy Effiecient and HE technology, but the water usage and electric used is the same as my 20 year old one it replaced. I see there are a bunch of class action law suits going on. Instead of Lawsuits it wouldve been nice of Maytag/Whirlpool to recall the defective parts.

I too have the Maytag Model MVWC6ESWW1 washer and having the same problem as everyone else. The washer start agitating before filling with any water.. I bought this washer in Apr 2010. I have always bought Maytag washers. The first one I bought I raised two kids on washing two loads a day everyday. The next washer was a Maytag as well, it got to where it would not spin the water out of it. I had this one about 5 years. I replace it with this new high efficiently washer and have regret it every since. The clothes has never came as clean as they should but this is the last straw with Maytag washer. I know Whirlpool is making a lot of different brands but really can they do no better than this on their washers. Very unhappy. I can't afford to replace this senor every time I turn around. Also can't afford to replace a washer every few years.

We have had this washer for two years, they never found out record in home depot because they never had the correct phone number. We had the machine serviced twice. we have had more money put into this that it was worth. The service guy actually refused to work on it because the part is hard to find. and would not take out money any more. Any status on this lawsuit. I would love to add my name to the list.

Same thing here. Did anyone ever find a source for the US-made version of W10248240? All I can source is Rev G, and I'm not sure if that is the latest one and US-manufactured.

I also have this same washer; and yes I got scammed. It worked great until right in the middle of a cycle it stopped filling with water. I only used it 4-5 times a month and it is less than 2 yrs old. This machine should have lasted 25 yrs or more. I have always trusted Maytag/Whirlpool products. Never again. How many LOYAL customers have you lost b/c of this?
