Marthat Stewart Kitchen Island / Store manager

1 254 By Pass 72Greenwood, SC, United States

On Tuesday, April 2, 2008, my mother and I attempted to purchase a Martha Stewart kitchen island. We had to wait for assistance since the store does not have enough sales people available. As soon as they could two ladies attempted to ascertain if they had this product on hand. It was determined that the item was old stock and was no longer available and probably would not be restocked. There was one island which had been assembled as a floor model. Those the model was dirty and scratched we were interested in purchasing it at perhaps a reduced price. There was a clearance sign on the model stating it was $199.00 marked down from $249.00. We asked to speak to the manager. The manager was seated in the rear of the building eating lunch. He refused to speak with us and told the employee to tell us that the floor models were not for sale stating that employees had assembled these items. I'm sorry but a sale is a sale. If there was store policy regulating this the manager should have spoken to us and explained it. It would not have taken 5 minutes. I have always been under the impression that a store is there to assist there customer and to make sales which means $$$$. In today's economy can you really write off customers like us. I will not be shopping at K mart in Greenwood again which leaves on WalMart which I detest. I will be letting my friends and family know of our experience and the outcome. For myself I want nothing but for my 77 year old mother I want an appology. She shops at Kmart often. A little kindness and assistance is not to much to ask. Also, the sign constituted false advertisement as well.
