Mandara Spa / Terrible service

I was an employee at the mandara spa downtown at the hilton. i just want to say that as an employee, i was very mistreated. but i wasn't the only one. The management there is RIDICULOUS! They play favorites, talk behind each other and employees backs and talk about personal issues that concern employees out in the open. There aren't supposed to be any inner office relationships there and the spa manager herself is dating one of the massage therapist.

My friend missed a couple of days of work because she had a miscarriage. when she informed the spa manager of the reason for the missed days, the manager replied "well there's nothing you can do about it so get over it". the spa manager's name is chelsea and the supervisor that i am talking about is Anna. I called the human resources manager, Clarice, to discuss my last check. i left several messages and she didn't return my call. claiming that she needed more info. Well my thing is, i left my name and call back number every single time. i had to track her down and when i got a hold of her, she was very rude. I asked her why was my check shorted a certain amount of hours. she replied, "i don't know when you worked. you tell me." she was very very rude to me. These people are very unprofessional and everyone needs to know it.

THIS IS NOT A GOOD PLACE TO WORK or GET SERVICES DONE. The water and tea they serve is out of dirty containers that are never washed with soap. they are barely rinsed out. The water jugs are filled with water from the bathroom. The slippers are not always cleaned and when they are, it is not very well. The fruit served to the customers is kept in the closet with the cleaning supplies and robes. The robes are very very dingy and the clean laundry is brought back in in the same bin the dirty laundry is taken out of.

    I was once a "part time" employee at Mandara Spa. There were some very unprofessional/ unethical policies towards employees. Mandara Spa needs to implement a base wage plus commission structure to fix the main problem. Currently as far as I know therapists are paid on commission only. So thus the part time worker is essentially "on call", if it happens to be a location that is not all that busy.Another simple fix for those who might accept an "on call" position would be to change the system so that the concierge would call the employee if they schedule an appointment.God forbid the concierge might actually have to work;). As it is, the employee must call in every hour to check for appointments until the end of the day! Is it right for therapists to spend 5k - 20k on advanced education only to make less than a high school graduate (concierge) with no extra training or education? On top of that any problem you try to resolve with them, will NOT be resolved ever. Management is inept, there is never a meeting to resolve anything. It is a very hierarchical structure and the part time therapist will have a very hard time making suggestions for improvement of operations.Also, if you though you could start as a part time hire and work your way up, forget it. You will not be recognized for your achievements and rarely will you be offered a full time position.Mandara Spa hires too many part time workers and then avoids having to pay any benefits i.e., health insurance, PTO or anything else.
    This is just another example of a large corporation, that would do anything to make a buck at the expense of employees.However I wish management would wake up and look at their extremely high employee turnover and realize what an expense that is. It's a shame that it is managed this way, it has potential to be a really great company to work for.
