Prime Manchester Subaru faulty wiring

I purchased a 2007 Subaru Legacy in July of 2014. In January needed inspection done was informed the right blinker was not working and it needed a new module, that part was ordered and was told the total cost would be 92.00. Waited for car to be fixed in the customer area, the mechanic Keith came and spoke to me along with Alan and I was told the problem was not the module so Keith said he was going to put the original back in and I would not be charged, however I was told the problem was the after market remote starter. I again was told there would be no charge. Keith the mechanic showed me the wire harness and the burnt wires he said he could take out the remote and fix the wires, this remote starter was installed in the car prior to me purchasing it. On Monday after leaving the car all day I spoke with Bill and he informed me that the wiring system and repair of it was going to be quite pricey and I was responsible for payment . I was told by Alan who is service mgr. and Keith and Melanie there was no charge . Extremely upset and dissappointed with Manchester NH Subaru, (car is still there 02-16-15) Robert & Sharon Todt

What can I say?
1) Do not buy a used car without a warranty
2) Do not buy a used car without inspection by a neutral, qualified technician
3) Do not buy a used car that has undergone any modifications
4) Buy only new vehicles and selltrade-in before warranty expires
5) If everything was "no charge", how would anyone make a living?

Prime Manchester Subaru Threats and Intimidation in Response to Complaint

I had my complaint buried within another customer's thread and it merits its own entry so here is is: In the Fall of 2009 I purchased a brand new Subaru at Manchester Subaru. The car was missing a part and I noticed this only when I returned home. It took six or seven weeks of calling to finally get the part. Multiple phone calls to my Sales Rep and his Supervisor were not returned. When I did get either of them on the phone then promises of action were not kept. For example, I was supposed to hear back the next week and didn't hear anything, or the part would definitely be in in two weeks, etc., etc. I soon realized they were just stalling. Finally, after a month or so I left a message for the owner, Todd Berkowitz, naively thinking this would get things moving. Guess what? Nothing changed! Noone called me and so I then had the idea of complaining to Subarua of America. ONLY THEN did I start seeing results. After about seven weeks I got a call to come in for the part. I was so upset about not getting straight answers, no call backs, etc. that I went straight to the owner's office to find out 1.) Why I received such lousy customer service, 2.) If the broken promises and bad customer service were acceptable to the owner, and, 3.) Why he (Todd Berkowitz) never returned my call. What happened next? The experience of speaking with Todd Berkowitz was like trying to get a straight answer out of a Philadelphia Lawyer. When I asked why these things had happened he said he didn't know because he delegated it. I then asked why he didn't return my phone call and he said he doesn't return those types of calls and refers them to his staff. When I spoke of the non-responsiveness and lies he said I was "... only hearing your [my] side of the story", which was disingenous because he made no effort to get the other side of the story while I was in his office. After just a few minutes of trying to get him to care about my experience... and this is really why it is worth getting the word out on this incident... Mr. Berkowitz said he was tired of arguing and was going to throw me out! I said I knew my rights and hadn't finished relating my entire experience -- at which point he said he was going to call the Police and have me arrested for trespassing!
This was a serious threat that was unwarranted, unjust, and, frankly, repugnant. I am a law abiding citizen and this coward resorts to threats of calling the Police to get rid of me. I have never been treated by a business so badly... EVER! The sad fact is that all I was looking for was an explanation and an apology and he was not willing to provide either one. I received only threats and intimidation. That's how my patronage was returned. Any one who patronizes Manchester Subaru is patronizing a business owned by a cretin, a man who acts indecently and will resort to any action to avoid facing up to a mistake by his dealership. A GOOD DEAL ON A CAR IS NOT WORTH THIS AMOUNT OF AGGRAVATION -- BE FOREWARNED.

immodest,
Are you affiliated with Manchester Subaru? Your line of questioning and comments cause me to wonder. Do you have anything to say about the seven or so weeks of getting the run around at M.S.? All I have seen from you and Brenda on that point is that I should have returned the car and no response on the lies which are in addition to the threats and intimidation.

Update by Fred R.
Dec 04, 2010 1:09 pm EST

Dear immodest,
A key is a part. Are we going to debate why I said "part" instead of "key"? I said "part" because I didn't think the specific part mattered and to protect my anonymity further. An owner of a business that threatens to have someone arrested for making a legitimate complaint is unpredictable IMHO.
I have a witness to to this event. It was traumatic for me and my girlfriend and she broke down crying later. There was nothing "questionable" about my behavior. I am an extremely responsible person with a position of high responsibility and I have NEVER been threatened with being thrown out in my life. I was sitting down in his office during this discussion, which only last a few minutes.
It seems you are inverting the "The Customer is always right" mantra into "Manchester Subaru is always right". The point of my post is (again) the shameful conduct of Todd Berkowitz which you are putting energy into diverting into other topics.

Update by Fred R.
Dec 04, 2010 12:52 pm EST

immodest,
You wrote, "you became defensive and turned offensive". Asking someone whether or not they are a troll is offensive? You and Brenda seem to be diverting the attention away from the behavior of Todd Berkowitz and certain members of his Sales staff. THAT is the issue at hand... so why do you keep changing the focus of my post?

Update by Fred R.
Dec 04, 2010 12:47 pm EST

Brenda,
I had already driven the car off the lot. You can't cancel the agreement once you take possession for a missing key -- which they claimed they were looking for (for six weeks?). Again -- and this is VERY strange that I have to keep explaining this -- the point of the story is the outrageous behavior of the ownership, not whether or not I could have or should have returned the car!

Update by Fred R.
Dec 04, 2010 12:44 pm EST

The part was a missing key! Why would someone return a car for a missing key?!? And, again, I already told you that Matt said returning the car was not possible. Finally, I live several hours away! I should drive two hours to return a car to get a second key?
It's strange that you are defending Manchester Subaru. The facts are clear and the behavior of Mr. Berkowitz shameful.

Update by Fred R.
Dec 04, 2010 12:17 pm EST

immodest, the other thing about your question that is not making sense -- I was told they did not have the part and only many weeks later offered to order it, so what would be the point of bringing the car back to the dealership?

Update by Fred R.
Dec 04, 2010 12:12 pm EST

'immodest', your question makes no sense in context of my situation. Did you read my post or are you just a troll on this board? Are you affiliated with Manchester Subaru? The point of the story is that the owner threatened to have me first thrown out and then arrested, without any reasonable justification, when I complained in person. I was lied to, ignored, strung along, treated rudely, and ultimately threatened. The car part is really secondary. But, since you asked... I was so disgusted that I actually did ask my salesman at the time, Matt Knevezic, if I could return the car and he said that was not an option! Any more questions?

I'm sorry but I'll have to agree with others here that your belligerence right here talking to strangers makes me suspicious that you were just as belligerent or more when you were there.

BTW, a key is not a part of car. Parts are affixed to them. I thought your reference to "a part" was disingenuous when I first read it. Why not call it "an important item that was missing when the car was delivered"?

This statement of yours summed it up for me: "I said I knew my rights and hadn't finished relating my entire experience -- " Rights? What of the owner's rights? Are you alluding to perceived 1st amendment rights? You do NOT have the right to badger (just a guess, but it sounds like you were badgering him and making a mountain of a molehill) the owner or any of his employees. In fact, when you set foot in that building, your First Amendment rights were left at the door. The First Amendment says that no GOVERNMENT can deny you the right to free speech. Come into my house or my place of business or anyone's house or place of business and you can legally be escorted to the exit and even bodily thrown through it if you resist. Or, a person less inclined to be a richard about it may call the police, who at that stage of the game typically function simply as arbitrators, attempting to defuse a situation before anyone (well, you, actually) ended up cooling their heels in a holding tank overnight.

And just how much of this man's time did you feel entitled to tie up with "relating my *entire* experience" over a missing key? I'm an executive and business owner myself and if a belligerent customer needs to either be assuaged or simply tolerated or hauled out in cuffs, my signature is on the checks of people whose job it is to deal with such things. I've got a business to run. I can't afford to have an hour or however long of it tied up dealing with a customer who chooses to circumvent the folks I hire to deal with customers and feels entitled to, instead, deal with me, at far greater cost to my company.

You write like a duck. I expect you sound like a duck in person too, if the allegory isn't lost on you. You've attacked posters here for "sins" far less egregious than having inadvertently had you be one of the inevitable victims of 1 of hundreds or thousands of keys get lost.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not sure I'd urinate on anyone associated with Subaru if they were on fire (I'm dealing with my second self-destructed STi engine in less than 10k miles and expected to pay for it myself) but even I haven't gone as "overboard" as you seem to have done.

Prime Manchester Subaru Shoppers Beware! Dishonest!

Shoppers beware! I just returned from Manchester Subaru and dealt directly with owner/manager Todd Berkowitz. What COULD have been a very easy resolve, refunding me a $500 deposit, has become an infuriating fiasco. The $500 was put down on a car purchase, and in waiting for our complete funding quite a bit of time passed and they called to say they needed to sell the car to another buyer. Being a reasonable person of course I agreed as this seemed very fair. However, we needed a 7 passenger vehicle under a certain price range and they had nothing else that fit our criteria on their lot. After about 12 days I called to ask for my deposit back. Since then (about another 12 days) I have been forgotten, mislead, and now today actually called a liar. If Todd B. practiced fair and ethical business practices he would have very simply admitted to forgetting to approve my check with his payables department, acknowledged my being forgotten, and I would have left only slightly irritated. Instead, he called me a LIAR, denied ever having spoken with me, additionally denied that ANY of his employees would ever 'pose' as him, made his office staff look like liars, and turned an impatient situation disgusting. The conversation became heated, untruthful and irrational.
Not only to I feel badly for his employees, I feel so fortunate to have done business elsewhere and I wonder how successful he could be if the energy he uses to get himself OUT of situations was put instead towards keeping people feeling happy and comfortable. I like to support nice people who deserve it - I didnt realize it then but I'm so glad this purchase didnt work out. I will update this complaint as soon as my check refund clears my account.

gmzen, your experience and comments resonate with mine (see my 'Threats and Intimidation' post). As you do, I also feel that Todd Berkowitz battling with me is irrational and off the charts (in the worst way) in terms of the range of what one could experience in customer service. He seems to have a talent for making enemies instead of putting energy into customer satisfaction.

Prime Manchester Subaru Missing Lug Nut, forgeting to torque Lug Nuts, others

2004 Subaru Outback
118, 000 Miles

This goes out as a warning to everyone about Manchester Subaru and it's Service Department.

I Strongly suggest whatever you do stay away from this Subaru Dealership!

I have been a Loyal Subaru Customer for over 10 years having purchased 2 Subaru Outback Wagons (99' and 04')

I have had service work done quite regularly from this dealership and always keep up my cars, buy them new and drive them for as long as possible. Again these cars are well designed and are like tanks in the snow!

Fall of 2009 I had a simple oil change and tire change over to all season/winter tires and alignment.

The car shimmied down the highway at 65 MPH, I had know idea what the problem was and not being an auto mechanic, thought that that maybe they forgot to do a proper wheel balance or got the alignment wrong.

I proceeded to go home anyways as the Manchester Subaru service shop closes up shop pretty early on friday and would catch them in the morning.

The next morning I proceeded to head out to the store and notice that the wheels were not quite sitting right and noticed that the Lug Nuts were sticking out further than normal. I had grabbed one with my hand and notice that it was very loose in fact that whole wheel had loose Lug Nuts. Shocked I proceeded to look at all of the other wheels, and inspect the Lug nuts closely. The Manchester Subaru Service Tech had forgotten to tighten 3 out of 4 tires Lug Nuts. They were hand tighten only!
Come on guys such a simple job, My family and I could have been involved in a serious accident or even worse killed! You only tightened 1 wheel while three wheels lug nuts were only hand tighten? WTF

I tightened every single lug nut with the Tire Wrench even rechecking the tire that they had gotten right.

Fuming at this point I called the Dealership and they wanted to check for damage. Ok I said fair enough I will be down. They checked the car over and Thank God there was no damage. The Service Manager did take care of me but again this is an example of carelessness and negligence on the part of the Service Technician.

Winter 2010 We just recently took the car in for an oil change and thinking that while it is in there have them look at the suspension as it is making a noise. No noise found, but they mentioned that they found a control arm bushing needed replaced and one of the valve covers is now seeping again.

Rear Control Arm Bushing was understandable so I had them do that service, but the Valve Cover Again! I had them done at roughly 94, 000 and now at only 24, 000 miles later. This is definitely a poor design on Subaru part but to do the same service again within such a short time period of a year and a half? Did it not get installed properly the first time?

Manchester Subaru wanted $1200.00 to do the service again for which they had done the service before and in such a short time period. (Extortion!)

I called Subaru of America and recorded the fact and they mentioned to keep an eye on it? They did not want to provide any assistance or help at this time until it got worse? The first time they did pick up the tab for half of the cost outside of the warranty period.

How can I tell if it is getting worse? How can I see the dammed thing underneath the car? I am no mechanic, nor do I have a lift in my backyard! WTF Come on people, whatever happened to servicing the customer? Taking care of the customer?

Tonight after driving the car for a few weeks, I am a teacher and so my total roundtrip to work and back is 2 miles. I just so happened to check the rear wheel where I presumed that they had done the work. It is missing 1 Lug Nut, while the others did need to be torqued down. WTF

Never again will I be taking my car to Manchester Subaru!

I can not trust them to take care of my car or more importantly my family and I!

Prime Manchester Subaru Fraud

Owner Todd Berkowitz and salesman Matt Knezevic conspired to cheat me (and presumably many others) out of an "owner loyalty rebate" advertised by the dealer. This fraudulent practice could not be any more blatant: the dealer prominently advertised a $500 rebate on the purchase of a new Subaru Outback Sport for existing owners. At purchase Knezevic took the information, and repeatedly assured me that everything was "all set". After months of waiting, and having Berkowitz tell me that the check will arrive soon (including "it will be mailed today"), I have received nothing. Potential customers should beware -- clearly the owner (Berkowitz) promotes and condones an unethical business culture that seeks to cheat (and if possible defraud) customers. There are many other dealers in the area, at Manchester Subaru you're taking your chances.

Actually it isn't even CYA -- it is (yet another) blatant lie from these pathetic, dishonest, dirt bags. The vehicle was purchased on Feb. 20. The rebate program was valid until the end of February. I have a dated archive of the ManchesterSubaru.com web site which clearly shows the offer date.

Update by orquit

This sound all too familiar -- the issue may be a different one, but the treatment you describe matches my experience perfectly! Even in an industry known for its low ethical standards, Manchester Subaru and Mr. Berkowitz manage to set new lows. Clearly this dealership believes that lying and cheating new customers is far more profitable than working to get repeat business from its existing customers. Whether or not my next car is a Subaru, it definitely won't be from this dealership. Fred, if you are still having problems, I would recommend contacting Subaru of America (SOA) directly. In my case, they were quite helpful and managed to coerce the dealership into paying me half of the money owed, while they (SOA) paid the remainder. Also, a complaint to the BBB in NH won't get any tangible results, but it will help to get the word out. I've already told more than a few people to stay away from this place.

I have never had that kind of experience that matches the Subaru Todd Berkowitz has always taking care of me and my family we have purchased sexual bruise from the dealership and as long as he owns that dealership I will purchase more cars from him he's treated us with nothing but respect dignity and goes the extra mile to make sure that we can get the car we want for the price we want and if there's any problems he takes care of it right away

I never get involved in this type off online drama but after reading that complaint I have to say that it sounds like the comments of a malcontent. We bought three cars at Manchester Subaru in the past nine years and never witnessed anything like that . Everyone there including the owner is friendly and they all go the extra mile to make you feel at home. Its sure not like other car dealers I been to. I hear that the owner does a lot of nice things for local charities and organizations. As I stated I have never seen Mr Berkowitz even raise his voice to an employee or customer let alone bully anyone. Those comments plain silly.

Unfortunately your comments are extremely invalid and quite frankly disturbing. Most of the employees have been working at the dealership for several years and have always been treated with respect and dignity. You seem to be focused on fictional or misunderstood conversations which is why we do not engage in this type of nonsense. If someone is terminated it is more than likely for reasons other than a one time issue in fact the dealership has a process in place for that. Never would an employee be fired three times no company would do that and shame on you for attacking our employees including manangment. Your time should be used to evaluate yourself instead of creating false claims.

The Manchester Subaru also bullies their employees and treats them poorly. I have heard more than once upon visiting their dealership employees being treated like children and idiots. The management has lost all of my business because of their bullying. NO business can treat employees poorly and be a good business to work with.Todd Berkowitz is a bully and lord know he has taught his staff well to treat the employees like they are nothing too. I spoke to 1 mechanic who said has has been fired from there multiple times to keep him in line and that is not uncommon practice. I head another staffer get screamed at for having a cell phone... seriously. IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS! I have made phone call reporting this behavior and since nothing was done i have left them for all of my driving needs and found Lovering Volvo to be much better at treating customers and i pray staff.

One more thing... notice that Manchester Subaru did not have any comment on my situation, they only commented on orquit's. I received HORRIFIC treatment from the owner of Manchester Subaru. He was so vile my girlfriend later cried. So my question for 'Customer Care Department': What is the point of calling the Customer Care Department if the owner of the business doesn't return phone calls and threatens to have me arrested when I complain in person? Yes, you read that right -- he used threatened to call the Police to get rid of me instead of responding to my legitimate complaint. OUTRAGEOUS. The man should be running a prison, not a business.

EGH, the fact that you have not had a bad experience at Manchester Subaru does not negate the significance of the very bad experiences some of us have had. You also cite their BBB rating as something that counters these customer comments. The BBB rating is pretty much a rubber stamp. If a business responds to complaints submitted via the BBB they are not penalized. It devolves into a "their word vs your word" situation.
Are you invalidating the experiences of customers expressed on this site? You can't get that information on the BBB! I see the comments here as much more meaningful than a soft rating from the business friendly BBB. It seems odd that a satisfied customer would go the extra step of pointing out a BBB rating in response to hearing about a customer complaint. That sounds like what someone affiliated with the business would do.

Sounds like you are just lying again and CYA Manchester Subaru.

Yeah, there's definitely some fraudulent Subaru dealers in America.

Stay away from Hunter Chevrolet/Subaru in HNL, NC too.

Had 3 brake failures the first 6 months I owned the car and they refused to fix even ONE of them!

What is it, with you Subaru Dealers now?

I wouldn't buy a flipping wheelbarrow from you Subaru dealers.

you're crooked, you treat the customers with disrespect and contempt.
You don't fix the problem or don't even know how to fix it in many cases!

Never again will I buy a Subaru. It's expensive and breaks down.

I also had the worst consumer experience of my life at Manchester Subaru after buying a new Subaru in the Fall 0f 2009.The sales staff is friendly until after you sign the contract... THEN you see how little they care about customer service. I was lied to, my calls were not returned, consistently treated rudely. I was not told at the time of sale that some standard equipment was missing in my new Subaru. It took six weeks of constant calling to get them to fix the issue. The owner, Mr. Todd Berkowitz, was the rudest and most obnoxious of anyone I dealt with. He was unapologetic, intractable, intransigent and a complete boor. He never returned my one call to him and when I spoke to him in person he said "I'm only hearing your side of the story" and, of course, made no effort to find out the "other side" of the story. Unbelievable. I am thrilled to never have to deal with them again!
