This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

I ordered this from a TV ad on 5/15/08 which stated that you had 30 days to use it before being charged. I was charged immediately in the amount of $47.90. I finally received the Magic Jack and it does not work on my computer. There is not a telephone number for the company with the package nor is there one provided on their website.

Please advise smb!

Here's a good look at their tech support...

Chat InformationPlease wait for a site operator to respond.

Chat InformationYou are now chatting with 'Chandler'

Chat InformationYour Issue ID for this chat is LTK419069414347X

Chandler: Hello, how may I help you?

MJ USER: you can listen to me complain for a minute then answer a question please

Chandler: Sure, .

MJ USER: Why, when I try and log in to my account, which I've had for a long time, do I have to go through a page of ads, then I can't find my old homepage?

Chandler: Do you receive any error message?

MJ USER: no, it shows I'm logged in and sends me to a page that I can't get off of without buying something

MJ USER: I've been a client for a long time and am close to dropping you

Chandler: Please click the link to download and run the magicJack upgrade (applicable for both XP & Vista):

Chandler: http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade/upgrade.exe

MJ USER: thank you, but the upgrade will have NOTHING to do with my issues...

Chandler: That's the latest.

MJ USER: and that would have NOTHING to do with the web problem

Chandler: Just please run it.

MJ USER: Chandler, do you have a supervisor?

Chandler: [protected]

Chandler: That's the one.

Chandler: I can handle your issue MJ USER.

Chandler: No need to transfer you to my supervisor.

MJ USER: or is there a phone number I can call and talk to someone who's technical and knows what I'm trying to ask instead of typing about the upgrade every time?

Chandler: Please run that latest upgrade and if it won't work we will proceed.

Chandler: We use Tech Chat to better assist you. By using Tech Chat, we can send you instant upgrade links and run several diagnostic tests, that cannot be done over the telephone. We are also able to see where you are located, what OS and Internet browser you are using. Lastly we can see that your Internet connection is working too. This will provide the best Customer care experience and keep you most satisfied.

MJ USER: you haven't listened to anything I've said so far

Chandler: I did listen, my apologies.

Chandler: Is there anything else I may help you with today?

MJ USER: yes, you can answer the first question I asked when you got here

MJ USER: instead of sending me unneeded firmware which I already ran a month ago

Chandler: Done?

MJ USER: why am I taken to an ad screen when I log in to my account online?

MJ USER: done?

MJ USER: what the heck does that mean?

Chandler: I believe your magicjack is not working fine. I will help you fix it.

MJ USER: send me a copy of this chat please to the email you have on file for my account

Chandler: Please bear with me. Rest assured I can fix your problem MJ USER.

MJ USER: and the name of a supervisor I can contact directly

MJ USER: you have shown NO ability to do this

Chandler: So you really want a supervisor?

MJ USER: YES

Chandler: Just let me do the fix first before telling that.

MJ USER: and a copy of this chat to my email

MJ USER: the fix has NOTHING to do with the website

MJ USER: read this carefully...

MJ USER: THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS WITH THE WEBSITE

Chandler: When you plug in the magicjack it redirect you to a website?

MJ USER: SUPERVISOR

Chandler: Thank you for your patience. I will transfer you to a higher level of support. Please hold while I transfer you.

MJ USER: NOW PLEASE

MJ USER: AND A TRANSCRIPT OF THIS CHAT TO MY EMAIL

Chandler: One moment.

Chat InformationPlease wait while I transfer the chat to the best suited site operator.

Chat InformationYou are now chatting with 'Dover'

Chat InformationYour Issue ID for this chat is LTK419069414347X

Dover: Welcome to the higher level of support. This is DOVER, and I will be assisting you on your concern today.

Dover: Please give me a few moments to read your previous conversation and be able to give you further assistance about it. Thank you.

MJ USER: Thanks...the last person had no clue

MJ USER: While you're doing that, here's a quick idea of what I'm trying to do...

MJ USER: I wanted to logijn to my account to see if there was a DMZ list for porting the MJ through my new firewall

Dover: Okay

MJ USER: but as soon as I login I get a screen trying to sell me stuff and I can't get past it to get to tech questions

MJ USER: my simple question to the last genius was "How do I get to my homepage without getting stuck at the BUY ME!" page

MJ USER: I really don't think that's a firmware issue

Dover: PLease scroll down the page then click the " my.magicjack tehn another page will pop up..

Dover: MJ USER, I just want you to know also that porting number through firewall is not available..

Dover: MJ USER, can you please clarify what do you want to do with your account?

Dover: I just want to make things clear and correct

MJ USER: I have a brand new firewall...best Linksys out there...

MJ USER: my MJ, with the Linksys hooked up, is choppy...

MJ USER: therefore I wanted to see if there's a DMZ opening port for the MJ to run in

MJ USER: my other VOIP homepage shows the setup in 4 steps

MJ USER: but here is a mess

MJ USER: it should have nothing to do with firmware

Dover: I see

MJ USER: it has to do with the port MJ goes out on

Dover: MJ USER, i just wanmt you to know that magicjack must plug in to the USB port of your computer..

MJ USER: that port needs to be in a DMZ on this router

MJ USER: oh jeez...

MJ USER: do you even know what a DMZ is?

MJ USER: let me make this easy for you

MJ USER: 1. MJ into USB port

Dover: No MJ USER since magicjack will works once it is plugged in to the UBS port of your computer

MJ USER: 2. USB port to computer

Dover: Thank you MJ USER

MJ USER: 3. Computer to outgoing LAN

MJ USER: 4. LAN to firewall

MJ USER: 5. Inside of firewall there's a DMZ that the MJ must pass through

MJ USER: 6. the firewall needs to know what port the MJ operates on

Dover: I see

MJ USER: then I can set the MJ to run in the DMZ...get it now?

Dover: Yuo need to add the magicjack port 5060 and 5070 MJ USER

Dover: May I know what is your operating system?

MJ USER: THANK YOU...WINDOWS XP/WINDOWS 7 on a dual boot box...

Dover: Welcome MJ USER.. I just want to clarify so that I can be able to assist you properly..Thank you so much for full cooperation..

MJ USER: WHY ON EARTH DID IT WASTE 15 MINUTES OF MY LIFE WITH A 10 SECOND QUESTION?

Dover: I do apologize for that MJ USER

MJ USER: PLEASE send a copy of this to my email listed on file

MJ USER: and then please send me the head of technical supervision's name and access...they must read this...it's insane this took this long

Dover: I am very sorry but I am not allowed to do that MJ USER but nothing tow orry about, we do have our chat history here on our end and no need to do this all over again with other operator.

MJ USER: send me a phone number I can call please

Dover: We only do chat support here MJ USER.. I hope you understand me..

MJ USER: I don't

Dover: I apologize MJ USER..

MJ USER: I will paste this chat on every review site I can find

Dover: Okay..

Dover: I am doing my best here to help you MJ USER..

MJ USER: and there's no way you're in Florida

Dover: We are located here in Florida MJ USER

MJ USER: right...how do I block numbers on my MJ setup?

MJ USER: easy question

Dover: YES. magicJack users may register their telephone number on the National Do Not Call Registry.

Dover: Please visit: www.donotcall.gov

MJ USER: nope...that's useless...you cannot block calls from nonprofit organizations there

MJ USER: so you're telling me therre's no DNC database available to MJ clients?

Dover: That is for telemarketers MJ USER

MJ USER: I'm fully aware of what the DNC registry is...

Dover: At the request of many magicJack customers the " Do Not Disturb" option was removed. People were simply forgetting to unclick the option and were not receiving important calls.

MJ USER: so, let's say I havea harassing caller who calls me 10 times a day from "UNAVAILABLE"...there's no way to drop that call with the MJ?

Dover: Yes MJ USER..

MJ USER: so you took a useful feature out because some clients were idiots...lovely

MJ USER: so there's absolutely no way for me to screen or setup a personsl DNC or block/busy list?

Dover: Yes MJ USER..I am so sorry to inform you that..

MJ USER: I think that answer would be 'NO' in English...

MJ USER: you're telling me no way, right?

Dover: Yes

MJ USER: and you're also telling me there is no direct phone number I can call to speak to a rep, is that correct?

Dover: You are correct MJ USER

MJ USER: and you're telling me that the only way to conbtact MJ at any time of the day 24/7/365 is through this chat?

Dover: Yes, we do technical support for magicjack..

MJ USER: you're telling me there's no technical email source, correct?

Dover: Yes, you have to chat us here so that we can be able to properly assist you if ever you have an issue with your magicjack..

MJ USER: you speak of 'WE', are you an outside consultant?

Dover: You are now chatting with a supervisor and I used " we " in behalf of oyr company and all the staff of magicjack..

MJ USER: and your company is Magi Jack?

MJ USER: you are employed directly for Magic Jack and have no other IM clients?

Dover: Yes, you are correct

MJ USER: and you're located in Florida, in the call center run ONLY for Magic Jack?

Dover: Yes MJ USER..

MJ USER: and you are the full technical support for MJ?

MJ USER: and under no circumstances can be reached via telephone

Dover: Yes MJ USER.. we do technical support for magicjack..

MJ USER: and under no circumstances can be reached via telephone

Dover: Yes since we only do chat support MJ USER..

MJ USER: then how's a mass chat company like LIVEPERSON involved?

Dover: I am very sorry but I am not allowed to give you such information..

Dover: I hope you understand me

MJ USER: as I thought...

MJ USER: interesting, but LIVEPERSON shows nothing in Florida...

Dover: Thank you

MJ USER: I'll be calling MJ with the number I just found online and sending them a copy of this chat...thanks for all the help...

Dover: Thank you so much for full cooperation and understanding. I really appreciate it.

Dover: Is there anything else I may help you with today?

way
ne: nope...be careful of all that sun in Florida...

This is pure garbage...and theier "CUSTOMER SUPPORT" is a call center called "LIVEPERSON" with offices in Israel...
if anyone technical reads this, after about 45 mins with various reps whos English was interesting, I finally got them to tell me that the MJ uses ports 5060/5070...I opened up those ports on my Linksys router with the dedicated IP of my PC and the thing seems to work...most of the time...

You can tell crappy hrdware when the company 'upgrades' the firmware every week...there's VOIP services like this out there that blow it away...look around...

I only keep mine til the year end because I can't believe I'd ever see a refund...

in a word, my review would be: "DON'T"

DON"T BUY THIS PRODUCT!
JUNK, JUNK, JUNK
Being and American and wanting to give the little guy a break, I decided to give them a chance. 1st problem, no local area codes! 2nd problem; caused computer crashes, 3rd problem; stopped working all together! I spent 5 hours online with Live Chat, and in the end, they wouldn't do anything to resolve the problem. IF YOU WANT TO THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY IT WILL FEEL BETTER, thank buying this junk!
If you want to view the live chat thread, drop me a line I'll be glad to share with you.

I bought one 3 weeks ago and the device failed, after that I am getting this error 815: Broadband connection is not established, Invalid value for the 'Service Name' for this connection. So, I returned it hoping that the new device would work, but instead it's has the same message. I got on their live chat session with a tech and he said it was the internet provider's fault, but I called ATT and they said it was Magic Jack. Now ATT wants to change me $179.00 to come to my home and "maybe fix it", so talk about getting screwed!
If this damn thing worked it would be a great device, but I am very pissed off, because I've canceled my phone provider service with ATT. If you are going to get this you better have another phone or you will be screwed blued and tattoo'ed with phone service!

I am very sorry to read what happened to you but I can not agree to your statement. All of my family lives overseas so I purchased 4 devices, configured and sent them over to them. The savings are huge! I can always count on being connected with my family. A missed phone call or a computer reboot is a very small price to pay for the actual savings and service we receive.
On another hand, the fifth MagicJack device I purchase was defective, being a tech guy I troubleshooted it myself but needed to contact them for a replacement. While chatting with customer service, I jumped through all their hoops and they concluded it was a defective device. I was issued an RMA on the spot.
I am very skeptical and negative guy but when it comes to MagicJack, all I can say is that they get a score of 8.5 from 1 to 10.

I've been using Magic jack almost a year now, and I am planning to renew it. This product saved me a lot of money. I recommend it to my freinds and they liked it. maybe thats why there magic jack doesn't work it depends of what kind of computer they were using or they have a old version and also maybe there internet is so slow. For me I give credit for them. Where ever I go I take it with me, and it works fine.

mine works fine i set up magic jack to run on an old amd 900mhz duron laptop (built in 2001) and decided to use it as a print server and extra network storage space as well, its been running constantly with no restsrts for 3 weeks and i havent dropped a call nor have i had any problems with the magic jack. keep in mind that magic jack is soley dependant on the quality of your internet connection. i know i sound like a magic jack employee but im actually a 10 year eployee of my current internet, video and former telephony provider.

i will say that peopel have claimed magic jack wont work with your existing phone wiring in your home or an alarm system such as adt or brinks. not true. if you run a double phone jack that is jumped together on the green/red primary pair from your magic jack with a dedicated cat 3 or cat 5 line to the nid (netrwork interface demarcation) you know, the little box outside yoru house that is usually by the power meter. simply unplug the incumbment telephone provider from the test jack and then wire one of the pairs to the green/red posts on the nid just like your adding a phone jack (usually blue/bluewhite and blue goes to red blue white to green which is the common color codes the phone company uses for the primary pair) go in and plug a jumper from the magic jack to the jack you ran and bingo dial tone throughout the house wiring.

now if you just want to make the phones work and arent worried about an alarm you can simply unplug the phone company at the test jack in the nid and plug a 2 way phone splitter into the nearest jack and plug in the majic jack to the splitter thats plugged into the jack. as long as your wirning is in good shape it will be fine. apartments can be a bit different as far as the demarcation points, they usually have the test jack in teh kitchen or some of them have structured panels it wont work if you cannot disconnect the incumbment provider from the house wiring.

most of the problems ive read about were caused operator errors, computers with issues like software problems or a crappy internet connection this is from a seasoned telephone worker and i will vouch for this product. i will say that most people shouldnt use it as a primary phone line if you arent capable of understanding the way it works. i use it at my house for a land line to call peopel for long periods of time to keep cell time down. my family has spent countless hours on teh phone with magic jack and i havent heard a complaint from anybody.

First off people, learn how to write and spell. It's difficult enough to understand your argument, let a lone read your horrendous literacy skills.
MagicJack is fraudulently misleading people--plain and simple. Does the product work? Yes it sounds like it does in some cases and it in others it struggles. However regardless of the product's functionality, here are three very specific falsehoods about their advertising:
1) "keep your phone number for life" as stated on the infomercial. This is simply not true. This is a major contradiction in their FAQ which states they can change the number any time.
2). "only 19.95 a year." as stated on the infomercial. Again, this is a fraudulently misleading clause as the price will vary in year 2 and beyond unless you prepay up front. Then again you can't even prepay for life to keep the $19.95 a year price. At this point it is not possible to lock in $19.95/yr forever and therefore this claim is fraudulent.
3). Misleading and fraudulent requirement information.
The product packaging and the FAQ on online states
To use a magicJack, you MUST have the following:
A computer with an available USB port; AND
Any computer with Windows XP, Windows Vista or Intel-based Apple MAC operating system; AND
One of the following: Broadband, High-Speed Internet, Cable Internet, DSL, WiFi, Wireless, WiMax, or FiOS;

However you MUST also have a working sound card. Not ONE piece of information divulges this information and yet it is absolutely required. So anyone with sound card issues, missing drivers, bad software etc.. will not be able to use the product.

MagicJack’s website and packaging therefore is a complete lie!

Regardless of the product's functionality (I personally think it stinks, hate the desktop shortcut, can't go on standby without unplugging it, drops calls..), MagicJack LP, based in Florida is practicing fraudulent, misleading and very poor business practices. I've not seen a major company operate this poorly in a long time.

You know, you can check with the BBB about the complaint that I put in. Whoever is saying that we the consumer, are people trying to run them out of business for other companies, I would put money on that person, is from magic jack. The ones who "got their backs".

They are not a part of the BBB but you can still put a complaint in. The more complaints, maybe the better service. I am speaking of customer service, product service, etc. Especially the customer service.

Now they are being sold at walmart, radio shack, etc. I would be curious as to how many returns are being made.

My advise again, go to the BBB and save every chat, becuase they have a nice little habit of hanging up on you. And don't think that if you click the icon, to have the chat e-mailed to you that it will work every time, becuase it does not.

Good luck, but I would not reccomend it until the fine print and the product have been stopped with the lies.

Again, read it, you will be suprized as to what the fine print states.

@ Charismatic... what's your problem here? Who cannot afford a regular phone? I can.. I have a regular phone, cell phone, and there are 2 Magic Jacks in my family... all perfect. I love them... why pay International fees if you don't have to? I call Canada for free. That alone is worth it... I call anywhere in US for free... it's a wonderful gadget.

I too purchased the magic jack. And also had the same problem with the "customer service". The advertisement states, "they will even pay for return postage", well after hounding them over and over and over again, putting a complaint into the BBB they eventually refunded all of my money. It took quite some time, but I did not give up, I saved every chat, and one person would say yes I would be refunded, and another would say they do not know what I am talking about. I was actually on the live chat with them when the tv commercial came on and typed verbatim what the guy was saying on tv and they STILL stated that they do not pay for postage for the return. I asked if they had ever seen the commercial and a manager finally admitted to not being aware of it? My problem was the fine print. They state on tv that you keep your phone number for life. Fine print states they can change without notice. There was more fine print I won't bore you with but my advice is to READ IT. It is a scam, and now they are selling them at radio shack? Which will probably drop their stock price even more. Good luck to anyone who takes this item. It is the cheapest made product I have ever seen. It is a light weight PLASTIC, how long will that last? Buyer Be WARE!

Be aware people, I have not found any problem with mine. Those big companies may have people working in order to kill this emerging new product that aims to run them out of bussiness...I used to have At&T and I used to be billed over $50 month (long distance not included) and now I am not even charged $50 a year What a monster difference! What a savior is magic Jack! You have just come in time baby otherwise I would have been bankrupted by these money suckers that call themselves "companies"...

I agree with the pastor here. I have no problems. I don't believe any of the people that are saying bad things about it. There is just no way that Magic Jack would pick people to scam and others to please.. it doesn't make sense to do that. I just don't believe them.. or if they are telling the truth they don't have a proper hookup to their computers... it's something on their end why it doens't work.. it's not the fault of Magic Jack.

I am a Pastor & want to convey my comments. MagicJack is a GREAT item. My old landline was through Time Warner Cable, which is also an internet type service. I have been told that the sound quality with my MagicJack is BETTER than what I had with Time Warner Cable's phone service.

I bought my MagicJack back in Dec. 2008. I paid $46.90 & was told I had 30 days to try it or return for a full refund. After trying it for 2 weeks I was very satisfied with the product. I had my regular landline disconnected & am now saving nearly $40 per month for a landline using MagicJack.

I don't know about all of these complaints, but people need to know that a minimum of 128kb broadband internet service is required for MagicJack to work properly. The USB may also be an issue for people with older computers having only USB 1.1 ports. This can be easily remedied by buying a USB 2.0 adapter cheap on Ebay. There is also a very good possibility that the problems these people are having are ISP related, or their other hardware (routercable modem, etc.).

For the people complaining about "Ugly Screens" etc, there is an upgrade you can download from their website that gives you more options, including minimizing the interface screen. MagicJack says it is a good idea to d0wnload the upgrade regularly to receive all new changes to the software.

I am not saying that MagicJack is God's gift to mankind, it isn't perfect, but for the price it is well worth it. I have worked with a very high costing VOIP phone service that had worse quality & echoing, using the same ISP I have now. MagicJack wins hands down!

It may be very true that many of these complaints really are fake, and have been put on by competitors.

magic jack a total scam.. I bought magic jack thinking it would be a money saver. well.. service is acceptable. In trying to return this device, I've run into some serious problems, the company headquarters are a mystery even to "Ask.com" and finding a real phone number took reading through many posts.
They offer the kind of diservice that should be considered criminal, and if even 1/10th of the posts about credit cards being overcharged/double charged, then the company should be subjected to a class action lawsuit.
Anybody interested?

Your computers must be out of date if the Magic Jack didn't work for you.. or your Internet provider doesn't support magic jack. The thing is if you care enough to get it to work, just go on the chat and let the tech support install it for you. That's what I did since my Internet company does not support the Magic Jack. The tech support went into my router and adjusted the settings so that it would accept magic jack. It works beautifully. The connections are great and the communications are clear on both ends. No complaints. I don't see why people are saying it is a scam. If it were a scam everyone would be scammed. I think they just don't have the right connection or they have an old computer or too slow of a connection.

A scam is a scam... scammers don't pick and choose who they will scam, now do they? Sheesh!

My magic jack works perfectly. I don't know why you all are saying that Magic Jack is a scam when it isn't at all. There are some internet companies, such as Windstream that do not support magic jack, and the help people at Magic Jack can go in and make it work.. that is what they did for me. I have already called several friends from different states.. and they only charged what they said they would charge.. if you have a debit card instead of credit it will get billed right away... that's a given anyway.

Why would Magic Jack target you all and not me, and not other people I know that are very happy with it? All you needed was to get some help from the reps on the chat like I did.

I have had Magic Jack now for 2 months. They did honor the 30 day trial period before billing my credit card. I had no problem connecting and so far it works great - good voice quality. The only downside would be what some are complaining about - customer service is bleak and the chat people do try to help but it isn't the best. But for $19.95 a year, hey, what else can you get for that. You are lucky to get one dinner at a restaurant for one for that amount so I wouldn't complain too much.

When I requested the MJ and went through the purchase process, I printed out the page of charges I would receive. When the bill came through on my credit card, the charge was higher than my printed page, I tried to contact the company. The message says they only provide live chat help. I contacted one of their reps.
Jaden said the charges were legitimate. I argued I wanted the over payment back.
Jaden argued with me. I told Jaden I wanted a refund of everything. Jaden said I was over my 30 day time period. I explained I only got the over charge after the 30 day period and that because of his/her attitude I wanted out.
Jaden said "You don't know how to read simple instructions" and other insults, you are outside your 30 day period.
I advised I had printed out the page with the charges on it and they charged me more than that page indicated.
I said this is a crocked company.
After a lengthy discussion I said OK I paid an additional $59.95 for an additional 5 yrs of service and because of Jaden's attitude, I want that back.
He/she said he would refund that in 3-5 business days.
I'm waiting to see that happen.
I then told Jaden that if he/she had only refund the extra charge, all of these bad interactions would never have happen, they would not be giving me a $59.95 refund and I would not be leaving the company. I may have stayed as a customer but because of the way he/she spoke to me, I will leave the company once my year is up. I let Jaden know I would not want to stay with a company that has such poor customer service and adds charges that are not posted.
I also let Jaden know I am a manager in a call center and would be fired if I treated a customer the way I was just treated.
I also let Jaden know I would advertise any where that the company is dishonest and has very poor customer service.
All of this because I disputed a $5.99 charge, so I get insulted.
This is so sad.

I got my MJ, plugged it in and Viola! It works just fine. I don't know what some people are doing that makes theirs not work, but first of all you have to have a high speed connection, it will not work on dial up! I admit when I was researching this to see if it would work, I had some questions that could not be answered at that time. Since then, they have all the answers to just about any question you may have. My main concern was that it does not work if the pc is no on, , well yes, it will not work, it makes sense duh! BUT, reading on further just recently on their site all my questions were answered, one being that you can forward your MH to your cell phone while you are away and this enables you to turn off your pc. Yes, your callers message will be forwarded to your cell phone, office phone, any phone you like. Then when you get back home, you simply reverse the forward! I think the MJ is the best invention since bubble gum! And if the good lord made anything better, he must have kept it for himself! LOL.. Another great feature is the way your callers can leave a voice mail and you can listen to it when you log in on your computer while it was off during the day ( that is if you did not forward your incoming calls) My other great concern was, hey, you can't have an extension, yes this is true, but you can have a MJ on each computer in your home even if the two computers are networked together! Hey this is great! I have had the MJ for a couple of months now, I wanted to test the waters before I got rid of the LAND LINE! That nasty thing that charges you so mu ch money and half of it is taxes! Good bye LAND LINE! Just saved myself over 45.00 a month. Next Im going to get the adapter so I can watch all my tv programs on my tv with out having cable or satellite, and its going to go through my pc too!

Lots of technology going on here and I'm loving it! Any time I can turn off those high price, over rated utilities, I will do it. Hoping someone can come up with a better solution to the HIGH ELECTRICITY BILLS!
Oh, and by the way, I just picked up my second MJ at WALMART! yes, for 39.95, will be installing it on my kids computer so he will have his own private line and then, we are done with LAND LINES FOREVER!

A SATISFIED MJ CONSUMER FOR REAL, , NOT PAID BY MAGIC JACK, , IM JUST AN OLD LADY TRYING TO SAVE A FEW PENNIES HERE AND THERE!

I have had Majic Jack for a year, we just renewed. I did have problems but they do help. go to the original web site, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on customer service, once you get to that page there are options there to get to a chat room and they will walk you thru it. We love it.

Pay attention to when you're inputting your cc/debit card data. It clearly states as I have read it about five minutes ago that if you use a debit card, you will not receive the 30 day free trial and that you will be charged immediately.

First, if any of you complainers used a cc to order, then create an Appeal for a return of charges. Why go into the "I got ripped off" mantra. It is rediculous and childish but I am sure some of you will complain that this action would not work also. Secondly, being an engineer, I know how the majority of folks treat everyday equipment, i.e. computers, TVs, cars, etc and it is usually not very well. I am always asked to fixed something broken down junk that was never taken care of in the first place at someone's home. I know folks that couldn't take a bolt off a bike and replace it without screwing something up, so I take these complaints very lightly. There are always two sides to every story. I have not purchased a Magic Jack, but tonight I will. Claiming fraud is quite a sweeping statement. I wonder how much of the trouble is actually caused by you folks? Of course you'll neve admit to this anyway.

I bought magicJack on line for $39.95 + $6.95 Shipping + $59.95 for 5 additional years of service.
The infomercial stated that they would hold the charges for the 30 day free trial period. After I had given them my debit card info, the last thing on the screen was that the hold period was for charge cards only. Debit cards would be initiated the NEXT day...which mine was for a total of $106.85...totally fraudulent. Should be prosecuted by the Attorney Generals of all states. Buyers beware. This is a fraudulent operation with no customer service telephone numbers, and overloaded online tech support that is poorly trained and unable to solve the many problems of magicJack. The whole operation will be bankrupt in a few months. Save your money and trouble. I don't expect to receive a refund.

I ordered Majic Jack because they told me I could "split my phone line" and keep my land line while giving my child the mj number. LIES. Then, they charged me before my 30 days was up, but said it was just a hold and they didn't have my money! LIES! Thier reps will do NOTHING to help. They have no complaint resolution. They DO NOT CARE. Now they have almost $100 (ordered 2) and I have never even used the stupid things!

What they fail to tell you is that if you can only get your high speed internet through the phone company, then you will not save very much money at all. A stand alone internet service is almost $50! Why not have a regular phone for that price!

I have to say I have a bittersweet relationship with MagicJack. On the one hand, I LOVE the savings they provide and the call quality is decent enough to pass for occasional business phone calls (beats shelling out $80 a month for a BASIC business phone line when I only take maybe 5 calls on it a month...most of the time clients call my cell phone). So it was a good way to get a "local" number other than my cell phone, and I have to say I have been very happy with the service. On the other hand, it is true that they are EXTREMELY hard to get ahold of, and the customer service reps who you have to talk to via chat are dumber than a box of rocks. You ask them a question and they give you some completely irrelevant answer. I'm like "HELLO? DID YOU EVEN READ MY QUESTION?" I didn't have any billing problems like some people listed, but mainly just wanted to ask them to change the "no forwarding to 800 number" policy, but couldn't get a straight answer about how to submit a customer suggestion. And they absolutely will NOT give out their address or corporate phone number. So that is very annoying.
