MagazineCity.com Never got magazines

I ordered $130 in magazines and never got the magazines. I contacted each of the magazines and they never got any money for the subscriptions nor do they have me down on any of the subscriptions.
I tried to contact MagazineCity.com by phone and email - I never got any response.
Do not sign up on ANY of these discount magazine subscriptions - its the same price as if you went to the magazines themselves. Too bad I found out too late - I had to reorder the magazines and I am out $130.

MagazineCity.com Fraud

I placed my order for 2 magazines in December, 2008. No magazines were received.

Like the rest of the complaints, the toll-free number is bogus because all calls are placed on hold for several minutes with nice muzak and no customer service ever answers.

I also e-mailed their customer service dept at the address provided. Again, no response.

However, there is a solution. If you call the toll-free number on the back of your credit card, ask for the Fraud Dept. They will intialize a dispute and get a refund for you.

I ordered a magazine called wired for $113 by credit card on 14th Feb 2008 and received auto reply from them saying it will start in 6-8 weeks. But it never happened. I wrote many emails to them but no reply. Magazinecity.com is scam website. Magazinecity.com is cheater company. Beware of this fraud website magazinecity.com and do not carry any transactions on the site.

I ordered two magazines from this company as gifts for my dad. One magazine appeared, and the other one never showed up. After three months, I called, and was told that there was a problem with that publisher, and that they would resolve the problem and that the magazine would start appearing within 6 weeks.

4 months later I called back repeatedly, and just got the run around. I got 'we'll get back to you by the end of the day today', which meant a form email. Then, when I called again, I got 'I'll have to have a supervisor call you back later today', which never happened. Call number three (4 days later when no one had called) had me leaving a voice mail for the supposed head of Customer Service, who also never got back to me.

It took me like 20 phone calls to them (I am NOT exaggerating) and a threat to take them to court before they finally had me talk to someone who would give me my money back. So, they kept my money for about 8 months, would not return any customer service calls, and only finally gave me my money back when they realized that I was not going to go away. It was very clear after that process that they never intended to deliver the magazine, or to give me my money back (or to even return a phone call).

FYI, if anyone ever does sue these creeps, I took detailed notes about my calls to them (date, time, who I spoke with, what they told me), and I'd be happy to help out in taking these scam artists down. It's unbelievable that they're allowed to get away with this.

Ordered a magazine in Feb 2008; It is now Sept. and nothing came yet. Called the company millions of times and felt lucky if someone actually answered the phone. I filed a complaint with BBB and received a reponse in 3 days that a refund would be issued. THANK YOU BBB.

I will never ever do business with this company again. If you have a complaint, don't waste your time to call the company; file a complaint with BBB!

In December 2009 I used this website to purchase 4 magazine subscriptions. According to them, the order was processed in early January 2010. It's June 11th and I have yet to receive a magazine. A month ago I filed a complaint against them with the BBB requesting a full refund. The company was very good at using stall tactics...promising that my subscriptions would start soon. I'd write back and demand a refund...they'd write back and assure the BBB that my magazine orders had been placed a second time. Finally, the BBB told me they were closing the case as "unresolved" as they could not force a company to provide a refund, etc. I've called each magazine individually and found my order had been received...the last week in MAY ! One magazine has yet to receive my order...so I'm still fighting with magazinecity. I intend to file a second complaint with the BBB regarding this last magazine subscription.
These discount magazine websites are SCAM !

I ordered the magazine First for Women for my daughter for Christmas 2010. $23.88 was taken off my credit card on Dec 3 2010. When my daughter did not receive the magazine I contacted First magazine but they said they had no record of it. I have left a message at Magazine City [protected] several times but they have never returned my call.

On December 22, 2007, I ordered a 2 year subscription from MagazineCity, which was to be a Christmas gift. I paid $70+ via VISA. In February when no magazines had been delivered, I followed up via e-mail. They said that sometimes delivery takes a while, and to contact them again at the end of April if nothing received. (December to April is pretty bad, but as long as they get delivered OK.) The end of April has arrived, and still no magazines. I've followed up with 2 more e-mails, and neither one has been acknowledged. I call the 1-800 # provided, but could not get through. I hung up after more than 1/2 hour on hold, without speaking to anyone. Still no magazines. I'm out $70+, and my husband is out a Christmas gift.

Ordered a subscription 6 months ago and haven't received a single issue! I've been trying to get a refund but their customer service is impossible to reach.

This company uses the dishonest scheme to charge your credit card with a subscriptions and tells you that because they handle so many orders your magazine may take up to 2 months to be delivered at your door. Well, the magazinies will never arrived because after two months you cannot longer open a dispute with your credit card company and they get to keep the money. I bet other people just forget they even ordered anything. ###!

Just awful... Magazinecity.com, that is obviously scamming and cheating their customers. I put an order for a gift subscription for a magazine for Christmas in to them on December 6, 2007. We have never received the magazine and everytime you call customer service you have to wait on hold 40-45 minutes, and they when you speak to them they lie to you and do not take care of the problem. Unfortunately after the fact I noted on the internet numerous complaints and poor reviews of this company taking money from people placing orders and no product received. Granted one order is not a lot of money, however if they do to this to a million people it does add up, doesn't it?

I repeat if my experience is anything to go by DO NOT order your magazines from this company. I ordered 2 skiing magazines back in October of 2010. It is now the end of January 2011 and I have still not received my subscriptions. The last issues of the season are available on newstands by Feb 15. I called the company back in December and they apologized, claiming the magazines would arrive shortly..I spoke with Christine at extension 216.

I have since tried to get in touch with the company at all times of the day but no matter when you call or what extension your try no one picks up.

With all the choices out there and given the fact the publishing world is desperate for business you would think there was a better option and there has to be. If in doubt buy direct. I was mistaken in thinking that I could subscribe to two magazines in one shot in order to save time. Instead I have been put through the ringer and lost any news I might have gotten for the ski season...

What a disgrace in this difficult economy!

MagazineCity.com Undelivered subscription

MagazineCity.com is running a major scam! DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM THEM.

Here’s how it works:

1. Order your magazines
2. MagazineCity.com charges you immediately
3. You do not get your magazines

The problem is for most people it stops here, because a $10 or $15 dollar subscription isn’t worth all the follow up, but if you do follow up… here’s what happens.

4. You wait on hold for 20-30 minutes
5. They tell you should be getting your magazines soon (problems with the publisher)
6. You do not get your magazines
7. Cycle repeats

I encourage everyone to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. This company scams customers. Read the complaints they are out there!

I had a similar experience. Placed my order in September. I followed up in December and they (rudely) assured me they had contacted the publisher who said I would be getting my mags soon. In January I got a similar but inconsistent story. Contacted the magazine directly and they said they had no record of my subscription. I finally gave up and had my credit card company cancel the transaction.

Your example of "how it works" is exactly what happened to me when I tried to order a subscription to Rolling Stone magazine.

I ordered online 4 children's magazines from Magazine City on Nov. 28, 2007. After 16 weeks, I called to ask where they were. I got a customer service representative who told me my order had just completed the "processing period", whatever that is. She told me that my magazines would arrive in April. Today, April 16, I called again. This time I was told my magazines would arrive in May. I then called the the magazines directly. Neither magazine company that I reached had heard of me or received any money for my order through Magazine City. I called Magazine City back to request a refund. I pretended to want to buy a magazine to get someone on the line. I did get a customer service representative, but I was unable to speak to a manager, because the manager had "gone home". I left a message and plan to call back tomorrow. I recommend that anyone waiting for a magazine, call the magazine directly to see if the order has really been processed.

MagazineCity.com Never got magazine, took my money!

I got taken, the same as everyone else. We ordered a magazine for my daughter's Christmas present on 11/28/07. The check was cashed on 12/07/07. Here it is, 5/19/08, and no magazine. I called 2 months ago--same old story--"allow more time for subscription to start." Their phone number now just keeps you on hold, then hangs up on you after about 10 minutes. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!

Thanks for the advice. I filed a complaint with the BBB yesterday, and low and behold, I got a call today from the "Compliance Officer" at Magazinecity. He said he was sincerely sorry, and the magazine publisher had never put us on its list. He promised to fax them immediately AND gave us a free extra year to the magazine. Let's see if he follows through. Wonderful what the right advice can do!
Thanks so much.

I too contacted the BBB and was surprised to get a response from Magazine City. They also promised me my original subscription and a bonus subscription for my troubles. That was months ago and still nothing. Today I put a complaint in with the FTC. I encourage others to do so also. This company should not be in business. They seem to always blame the publishers but I doubt it's their fault all the time. I placed my original magazine subscription in December 2008.

I contacted the Better Business Bureau of Virginia because they charged my VISA for $23.97 on March 23, 2009, for a magazine subscription that was a GIFT for my Mother's Birthday and they NEVER sent it to me! They charged my VISA that very same day. Month's went by and I emailed them (customer service) on their website as well as through my personal email account. NO ANSWER. Called numerous times only to be told to call back later, after being on hold for 15+ minutes. The last time the BBB contacted me with an "offer" from MagazineCity.com to "resubmit my order since it was lost" I told them NO WAY! I want my money refunded and I refuse to do business with these people. They closed my case siting they had done all they could. Well, here I sit to this day, eight month's later, and my VISA card has never been credited! Now I am going to have to seek legal counsel to take them to court. I am going to ask that they pay for my legal fee's! I am so furious! Don't do business with these people! Lorrie

I am soooo frustrated with this company...my story is almost identical to all the others. I am still waiting for my credit card refund...this whole process started last year when I ordered a mag. called Wired for a Xmas present...the story goes on and on. To date I have received no magazine, no promised gift mag. for all the inconvenience, they blamed the mag. and said they took it down from their site, and now no reimbursement on my credit card. I will be going to BBB as well.

I had the same experience with Magazine City. They took $110.00 for a 2-year subscription which never arrived. It took me 8 months of fighting them to get a refund, including a formal complaint with the BBB and threats of legal action against them. I never did receive a single issue of the subscription. Won't someone please start a class action lawsuit against this business? It is a SCAM, and that's all.

MagazineCity.com Making people to order and steal their money!

On February 27, 2006 I had placed an online order for a magazine called "Decorating Spaces" through www.MagazineCity.com. I paid my $13.00 for a year’s subscription by credit card.

The payment on my detailed credit card statement shows it was deducted February 28th, 2006.
MagazineCity told me in an automated email response saying that it would take 6-10 weeks to arrive. I believe I received the first issue (June issue) in late June, early August. Out of my full years subscription I only received 4 of the 12 issues. I received June, July, August & September 2006 issues.

I emailed MagCity on Tues, January 9, 2007 to let them know that I only received 4 of the 12 issues. I still have not heard anything back from that email & it is 7 PM EST on Jan. 23. I only received the same auto-email response that I got when I first placed my order telling me how long until I receive my 1st issue. (I never received an actual reply to my inquiry.)

I then called MagazineCity on 1/16/07 to ask why they stopped. I was told by a rep that was extremely rude & not "customer service" oriented at all that she was unable to assist me & that I had to "call back tomorrow." She failed to tell me their business hours or the time I needed to call back by so I had to ask.

I did as the rep said & called back 1/17/06 within the specified time-frame she gave. The first time I called it beeped like it does when you get a wrong # & said "all circuits are busy" & hung up on me. So I called back & got through. It then put me on hold for like five minutes & after waiting a message came on stating that I need to either hang up & call back later or leave a message. I left a message & did not receive a call back within 20 mins or so, so I called them back again & got a rep.

On the 17th I spoke with "Sondi" or "Sondie" (sawn-dee).

The call started with Sondi asking me, & this is all she said "The Shipper?" In a very rude, very short tone (as were all the other reps.) I asked, "The shipper?” She said, "Yes! The name of the shipper?!" I was still confused & had no idea what she was asking. Turns out all she wanted was MY name...why could she not have said, "What is your name please?"

Anyway...Sondi told me very matter-of-factly that, "Oh, you're not getting your magazine anymore because that publisher has gone out of business." I asked her why MagazineCity did not contact me & she told me that it's not MagazineCity's fault I'm not getting it any longer & it's not their responsibility to contact me, that the publisher can "IF THEY CHOOSE TO". I then said oh, so basically you're just taking my money & who cares if I get what I paid for or not. I said I placed the order through MagCity so they should have contacted me. She just repeatedly told me it’s not their fault or problem; it’s the publisher’s.
Well then she tries to offer me an $8 credit, she failed to explain what the credit was until I said, "So I'll be refunded $8?" She said no (in a very condescending/snotty tone), it’s a credit to MagCity...as if with this completely terrible customer service I will ever purchase anything from them again.

Then I asked to speak with a supervisor, after Sondi ignoring my 3 or 4 requests for a supervisor & just talking over me telling me how it's not MagazineCity's fault, of course I was losing my temper by this time. I told her I just want a complete refund if they refuse to send me an $8.00 refund.

(I know this is not a lot of money, but it's the principle here that I'm concerned with along with the total lack of respect & horrible customer service. They might as well not answer their phones at all.

It's the fact that no one even bothered to try to contact me & that they were just going to take my money had I not contacted them. This is absolutely horrible service & I just wonder how many other people have been taken advantage of like this, probably regarding more money than the $13.00 I spent.

So then when Sondi finally put me on hold, (which was a click & then total silence, like they'd just hung up on me, after their rudeness, it would not have surprised me one bit)...They don’t even let you know they’re putting you on hold. Then you get a click & total silence, so you wait & wait wondering if anyone will ever pick up the phone.

I finally get through to a woman who called herself a supervisor & her name was Nicki. She refused to give me even just an $8 refund, she couldn't have cared less about the poor attitude & customer service I received from Sondi, or the fact I was not contacted about my magazine subscription being cancelled even though they were sure to take my full payment.

She didn't care about anything I had to say. So then of course I lost my temper with her, there was no cussing with her, she told me to be quiet & let her speak & she said that I was rude & should NOT have "so rudely interrupted her!" (This is when she was repeating what Sondi said about it not being their fault & all they would do is send the $8 refund, so I told her I already knew that b/c that is what Sondi just told me REPEATEDLY." So I said" Fine Speak".
Then she told me to have a nice day & SHE HUNG UP ON ME.. after all that time waiting on hold & all the horrible customer service reps that I dealt with. The ONLY reason she hung up on me is because I told her “Fine, speak” I work in customer service too and I know for a fact that you DO NOT treat customers that way, especially when it’s YOUR business that is in the wrong.

Once again I called back (much to my disappointment)...This time I get Chiquita...they all sounded like the same person pretty much, they're all rude & don't sound friendly at all. When she answered the phone I said right off the bat that I'd like to speak with a supervisor, she said "what?" like she didn't understand me, I said again, I'd like to speak with a supervisor, whomever is above Nicki, she said, what? You’d like to speak with abud what?

She was totally rude & probably knew I had already talked to the other reps. I finally spelled out a-b-o-v-e for her since she couldn't seem to understand me so then I asked once again for a supervisor.

I get put on hold again (once again, CLICK & TOTAL SILENCE) & then some other lady gets on...I wrote Kia down so I guess maybe that was her name. She alleged that she was the main customer service manager & that there was no one above her. I said, fine, can I have the corporate phone number then, & she said I was talking to corporate.

Then I said, “okay could I have the address then” & she told me to go look at their website & that the address was on there if I wanted to write. Once again she refused to help me. I asked her again for the address since I was on the phone already & she then said she'd give it to me & that I'd better send it fast because they're changing buildings very soon. I said "OF COURSE YOU ARE". Yet funny enough, she didn’t offer a new address….

So basically, I would just like this taken care of, as you can see by this extremely lengthy email their unbelievably horrible customer service & their lack of concern for me not being contacted & then how they're just taking my money & putting sole blame on the publisher, has really bothered me.

If the Publisher went out of business as MagazineCity alleges, then why as of 7pm EST January 23rd, 2007 is it still advertised on their website, yet they quit sending me my subscription back in September 2006?

I would like to be refunded my full $13 (they should be forced to pay more as compensation for the HORRIBLE act they call “customer service”. What I hope to get out of this the most though is to be assured & have proof that this lying, thieving business is being looked into. They should not be allowed to do this to people.

I do not want their pathetic offer of an $8 credit to their thieving company because that would mean that I would have to buy something else from them as nothing they have, in the amount of $8, is comparable to what I should have received in the first place. This means I would be paying them MORE money, to add on to the $8, when I already paid what I was required to in order to receive what was supposed to be TWELVE magazines, not FOUR!
How is this legal? IS it even legal?

If their poor offer of an $8 credit is legal, it is probably the bare minimum that they have to do in order to not get sued. Either way, they cover their butts & make money off of unfortunate customers that thought they were purchasing something from an honest business. They win both ways….either they get to keep the rest of my money, the rest of my subscription & their sad little $8 credit; or they get me to spend more money on their company by purchasing another subscription that takes four months to even begin & then cut it off after who knows how many & then lie & say the publisher went out of business & that it’s not their fault.

Can anything be done about this? I’ve come to expect absolutely nothing from their company because I’ve talked to the “individuals” there & then even saw online how only EIGHT people are employed in what they consider their “customer service department”. I’ve warned everyone I know not to purchase anything from their company & I’m also going to post it everywhere I possibly can on the internet. I’m going to send emails to people to forward on as well. I’m also working on finding other VA state organizations to file a complaint with & other websites as well.

Had I been spoken to in a friendly tone as customer service reps should use in the first place & had they at least tried to assist me I would not have lost my temper in the other calls. I'm simply asking for a $13 refund & for someone to really look into their company ethics/standards, because it is a terrible business. I'd really like to see more specific information on the other complaints placed for this business as well, because I am 100% certain there are others out there like me.

This is not about the money the $13. This is about decent, honest business
& trying to keep them from stealing other customers money as well. It is easy to place the blame on the “publishers”. I’d also like the name of the publisher so that I can contact them directly.

My guess is, a lot of people would have just forgotten about they were even getting a magazine in the first place since they only come once a month. Many people probably have not even taken this to the BBB b/c it probably was over a fairly insignificant amount like mine. However, if you look at the big picture and MagCity does this to hundreds of people, they can make a lot of money!

Oh yeah, and I just got an email Jan. 24th 2007 about renewing my subscription to this magazine that they are still offering on their website. Are they just going to have people order it and steal their money as well? Why else would it still be on their site if it's not available as they allege?

I ordered a subsctription of 2 magazines on late November / 2010 that were supposed to start being delivered around late February 2011. On March, 4th 2011 I submitted a complaint through their customer service saying that I had not received any magazine so far. Then they replied saying that "there was a problem with the electronic file" that they needed to send to the "fulfillment house" and that I should have to wait for the whole process again. Now it's May 19th 2011, I have submitted 3 more complaints through their web site and haven't got a single answer so far. I also can't find an agent on their help desk to talk to... It's been almost 1/2 a year since I have payed for the magazines and I still haven't received anything! That is just unacceptable! I need to know when (exactly) the magazines are going to start being delivered to may house or at least to have my credit card payment cancelled.

I ordered on October 23th, 2008. My confirmation (email states the magazine should arrive in 6-8 weeks (10-12 if bi-monthly or quarterly magazine). It has been 14 weeks and still it hasn't arrived. I called them twice. They said it will come in February (4 months later). I don't believe it. They won't connect me to a supervisor. They say she is on the phone and I told them I would wait but they transferred me against my consent to the supervisor's voice mail. Supposedly, this is her direct line [protected] x216. I've left voice messages but she won't call back. I've contactect the BBB and is dispute the charge with my Credit Card company.

I, too, gave a subscription to Our State through MagazineCity.com, and it never arrived. I called the 800 number, and sent them an email, and they never responded. I then disputed the charges through my credit card company, and magazinecity.com never responded to my credit card company. I can only give them a thumbs down, and advise others to never order from them.

Ordered and paid for 12 month subscribtion in December 10 - despite many attempts, still have not seen any magazines nor had appropriate response from this company. Basically they take your money and do not send you anything.

In December of 2008, I ordered a $120 gift subcription for 18 months of CAR Magazine from these people ... and it never arrived.

I have never once been able to speak to a human being. All of my emails are returned with canned responses.

They will neither deliver the product as promised nor refund my money.

AVOID MAGAZINECITY.COM

Do not order anything from this site - it is a SCAM.
If you want a magazine subscription, you will not find it here. What you will find is that your money has been taken, and you have no magazine to read.
I ordered on Dec 17/07 and nothing delivered up until now - Sept 9/08. Emails, calls, waiting...no real response.
SCAM.

Order Reader Digest Large Print. Plus RD Books on May 11, 2010. It is now Aug. 24, 2010. No magazine and they have my $59.00. Charged to my AMEX the same day. THIS COMPANY STEALS MONEY. NO RESPONSE WHEN CALLED OR EMAILED. HOW CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS.

I ordered Canadian Geograhic magazine early December 2008 and now, July 2009 they still are giving me the run around and saying that its coming and being extremely difficult to reach. Impossible to reach by phone. I have not received a refund or the magazine and because they kept telling me that I would receive it, by the time I got my bank involved to get my money back the time that had lapsed was too long and the bank wouldn't pursue it. Absolutely the very worse buying experience off or on-line for me - ever. They cannot possibly be legit.

I have had the same problem getting my subscription. WARNING, Don't buy from Magazine City. If you want a subscription. I recommend going right to the source. I lost out on my $20 and will never purchase a subscription from a 3rd source again. If you want a good deal on magazine subscription, call the magazine. I called the magazine I was supposed to get through Mag City and told them what happened, They gave me a subscription at a great discount (less than Mag City price)
