Lorlyn Of Batavia, Austin Highland Property Management / Faulty Lease
1) Management prepared our lease wrong and refused to take fault. I have papers that prove the lease signed should have been a 13-month lease, they prepared a 14-month lease and we didn't realize their mistake until after the lease was signed. Upon realizing their mistake they refused to help us in any way. First they said they realized it was their mistake and they would allow us to move out after the 13 months. We later realized they were just telling us what we wanted to hear to get us out of the office. When we followed-up, they had changed their minds and are no longer going to acknowledge their mistake on the original lease, prepared by them. When we asked to have copies of all of our original paperwork, they said that we were only allowed to have a copy of the lease. We feel that we have been scammed big-time and would either like to be allowed to move after the 13 months, or we feel that management should take responsibility for their mistake and pay 50% to 100% of the 14th month they scammed us into signing.
2) Pool was rarely, if ever, opened during the summer of 2008. We have been paying for an amenity that was rarely available to us.
3) Mold was a huge problem during the winter.
4) I moved in with my boyfriend after he had live there for a few months. I paid the money for the credit-check and filled out all the paperwork to be put on the lease. When I called to complain that the original lease had been prepared wrong, they told me I couldn't complain because I wasn't on the lease. They took the money and never followed through with their end of the business at hand.
My boyfriend and I have sorely been taken advantage of by this management company. We trusted this company to prepare correct paperwork and they have taken advantage of our trust at every possible corner. While we have learned a valuable lesson when it comes to management companies, we feel that we deserve some sort of settlement from Lorlyn of Batavia for all of their mismanagement in handling our lease.
