guide books
I ordered 3 guidebooks online and after two months of waiting they still have not arrived. For EU delivery LP doesn't offer package tracking. They just put them in the mail, hope for the best and do not take any responsibility when something goes wrong. I have contacted them many times and the only thing they respond is that they do not take responsibility when a shipment goes missing and I need to order (and pay) again. Maybe they just have not shipped the books and this is their way in making easy money.
A scam and outdated business
If you still buy travel books from "Lonely Planet" series, make sure you understand that you are being continuously fooled. Perhaps, some decades ago, the little tourbooks of "Lonely Planet" would be in demand, but certainly not now. In our times of rapid and easy Internet access, any teen or adult can locate more satiated and content info about any country within two minutes, and for free (for no cost). What "Lonely Planet" does, is the same you can do yourselves. It located free info from Wikipedia and other free sites and blogs, then prints out outdated and misleading guides and sells them on the dummy reader. Moreover, if you look in hotels or airports, you can find an ocean of free tour guides to many countries. So why we keep to regard "Lonely Planet" and why we allow it fool us? Stop buying books from "Lonely Planet" and make your own creative search. Their books are static and outdated. Not the least, "Lonely Planet" is a malicious business. It attacks on other authors at amazon, libels them, in order to promote its pathetic business. "Lonely Planet" ! You are old and it's time to clean the field.
Lonely Planet magazine delivery issues
Hi
I need to highlight here the very careless delivery service provided by the timesgroup magazine delivery service.
I had subscribed for an annual package for the Lonely Planet magazine in September 2011.
Issues faced :
1) September Copy reached me after almost 25 days after 6 calls made to the customer care number.
2) For the October copy I had to make 3 calls to the customer care number.
3) The December copy has not reached me yet. It's 26th of December today !
It's proving to be a nuisance! - [protected]@gmail.com

Restrictive Practices
We are a cash low cost backpacker hostel who charges from USD 2 to 5 per night.
We cannot get listed on Lonely Planet or their affiliate Hostleworld because they exclude us as we cannot afford credit cards because there would be nothing left for us.
This is clearly restrictive trade practices being used by these parties who give the image of providing best value for travellers.
The truth is they are more interested in commissions and not in revealing the lowest and best value for backpackers which is on the basis of low cost cash hostels such as ours.
Few people would know Lonely Planet refers you to their affiliate Hostleorld that only reveals those places in which they get kick back commissions via credit cards. As a low budget hostel I can only assume Lonely Planet gets commissions back from Hostelworld.
What a gigantic SCAM!
Most travellers would be shocked by these facts.
It is a disgrace that Lonely Planet and their affiliate Hostleworld can scam in this way with restrictive practices.
