LocalNet Internet Services never do business w/ this company

OMG I have never been treated so terrible as I was when I called about a demand letter. This all started in August 2008 when my internet service would no longer work...constant busy signal for more then 3 weeks. I called the tech support for local net they informed me that it was my telephone line, which keep in mind this is the same phone line I am talking to them on. There is and was not anything wrong w/ my phone line. So I told them since they could not fix the problem, I wanted to cancel my service w/ them. I was then transfered to a women who told me I COULD NOT cancel my service, that phone call ended and on went the monthly phone calls to my c/c company to dispute the charges (theres a good hour of my day wasted on hold for them) Also when I signed up for this service I had to give them a c/c but I told them I want a paper bill in the mail I DID NOT WANT MY CREDIT CARD CHARGED AUTOMATICALLY. They did this anyway. So finally I spoke w/ someone again from localnet in Feb. 2009 and they informed me of the cancelation policy they need something in writing (would have been nice had they told me this back in August) So I faxed them a nice little letter stating I no longer wanted the services that they were UNABLE to provide. I thought I was done w/ them. Yesterday I get a "DEMAND LETTER" I called them this morning and got a man named Chris WOW was he a class act JERK. My 10 year old has more professionalism then this guy. He immediately got angry w/ me, raising his voice at me when I said I was not paying for services not rendered. Gosh I could hear his blood pressure rising in the sound of his voice. He informed me of my 2 options 1 Pay the bill 2 don't pay the bill and read the letter. He also told me his job was not to be nice to people but to collect their money. Never the less he hung up on me twice and I was unable to get anything solved. Stay clear of the place!

That definitely sounds like LocalNet -- AND like Chris in collections! LOL! On their little postcards, they ask you to call [protected]. But, you'll wait on hold for a long time, and -- just like calling their customer support -- it's as likely no human ever *will* answer! Chris is described by a couple of staff as "their supervisor." (Difficult to believe, isn't it?) More likely he's merely the hardmouth they send you to if the front line operators aren't succeeding. Maybe that sort of abuse works on some people -- but obviously not on sensible people! hehe... If you're interested in talking with Chris (whose very lack of control makes him amusing) phone [protected] instead . Someone usually picks this line up after just a minute or two, usually Chris himself. Saves wading through the front lines...

LocalNet Internet Services fraudulent charges

I signed up with Localnet by phone, paid for first month hook-up service with my bank card and given instructions for accessing 24 hr. tech support to get online. I continuously tried to connect with tech support & only got a message. I found out from my bank that my card had been charged immediately & I canceled my card. After several days of trying to contact localnet by phone, i gave up.

A Localnet representative called me the following month to inquire about inability to bill my card for monthly service. When i complained about not even having service & demanded a refund, Localnet refused. She told me that i would need to go online (which i didn't have access to yet) to the localnet webpage if i wanted to file a complaint. I was so disgusted. I thought i was saving a few bucks going with basic service, but i was charged for services never delivered.

LocalNet Internet Services abusive business practices

DO NOT ever do business with LocalNet.

Their practices are highly deceptive and abusive. I have never dealt with people more insulting. They need to be put out of business. We cancelled a year ago, yet tonight I recieved a phone call claiming that they had been sending me post cards notifying me that of my alleged debt (I never card a card). They also called me a debtor and said that they would refer me to a collections agency. Keep in mind that I never actually used their service and that after having signed up for less than a day, we cancelled because I learned (too late) that the business is highly suspect. There behavior is unethical and abusive. I hope that no one has to endure their condescending, hateful customer service calls.

This business should be out of business.

Today I recived a letter stating (I feel its a threat just to get money) that I owe $31 and if I dont pay they would see me in court in New York. A service I have not used and cancel last year and still being charged for something I would never go back too. I even had to change my account because they wouldn't stop taken money out my bank account. Im 21 so that hurts cause I dont keep a lot of cash in it which mean I started to owe the Bank account. Anyways, don't go to localnet; go with AoL or whoever not loclnet.

BEWARE OF LOCALNET’S BILLING PRACTICES!

On January 7, 2009, I sent an e-mail to Localnet's customer care email address asking that my account be canceled. This request was made well before the account renewal date in February. On March 18th, I received a call from a Localnet customer service representative asking me if I forgot to make my yearly payment to Localnet. I informed the customer service representative that I sent an e-mail in January to cancel the accounts. She asked that I please send another e-mail to customercare@localnet.com to restate that my account be canceled. I told her I would do so if it would resolve the issue, and informed her that I did not expect to pay any late or termination fees since my first request was made months before. After our phone call, I sent the requested e-mail to the requested Localnet address. Later that day, I received yet another phone call from a Localnet customer service representative asking me if I forgot to make my yearly payment to Localnet. I explained to that customer service representative that I spoke to another customer service representative earlier about this matter, and that the issue had been resolved. She put me on hold, and then came back and apologized for the confusion. The matter was concluded, or at least I assumed so until in April when I received a threatening DEMAND LETTER from Localnet in the amount of $16.00. I called the Localnet billing department and explained the series of events. The rude ### in the billing department (named Chris) said that "they are not playing a game about this" and I had two choices - pay them the amount due immediately or they would send the bill to a collection agency.

Not wanting to have these idiots damage my credit rating, I paid the amount due the next day. It seems that I am not alone in finding Localnet's billing practices to be inaccurate, fraudulent, and misleading. Hopefully, someone will file a class action lawsuit against Localnet -- I'd join it in a heartbeat. My next step is to contact the New York Better Business Bureau.

I cancelled my service August of 08, I just received a bill for $28.90 for Feb 9 2009 thru april 7 2009. And if the bill is not paid for by may 3rd, they are taking me to court in New York, I live in Wyoming. I called at questioned the bill, told them I was not paying and wanted it resolved. She hung up on me. I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and plan on fighting this bill any way possible.

Localnet was not working on my computer since the first night I signed up, 2/22/09. I was unable to get any mail to open and I could not get to any websites and open them, and Exployer froze up, and then I could not get a connection at all. So, I called to cancel but they do not let you do that. They charge $12 for a setup fee, non returnable, they say. They suggest to get the excelorator at $3 more. I wanted to cancel so I called the customer service dept, I was told I had to email them on the email from Localnet, now mind you, I just explained I could not get on line, I could not get their service to work! I went to where I could get connected to a wireless service and then emailed them I was very dissatisfied and wanted a refund, as instructed. But tonight I was informed by a supervisor, they will not refund my money. I have tired to call Tech support, I can not get through, it burns up my cell minutes waiting to get to a Tech. After complaining tonight, I again retyped in their info to connect, now it connected, I find this amazing since it would not work all day, and not until I filed a complaint! I also deactivated the accelorator, which now I want my money back from that thing. I wonder how many complaints about this company there are out there?

Have tried to get tech. support and the only answers I could get was there is a technical difficulty in your area. Also would be put on hold for 20-25 min. Called to disconect and was told to write, email or fax, but
I can't get a reply to my email to insure that my services will be discontinued, per my wishes. In general I have had poor service and rude people to deal with. I don't think that a confirmation is too much to ask for since I have paid for poor service for a year.

LocalNet Internet Services watch your credit card statements

We moved 9 months ago. Called and cancelled our service with LocalNet (ISP) last June. Asking them specifically if we needed to do anything else. Nope...we were set! (They did NOT request a letter at this time)

Fast forward to yesterday. We get a bill claiming we owed the for January and February of... this year. (6 Months after we had moved to a different address.) Their story was that they had put our account on HOLD for six months...(why would we put it on HOLD when we were moving out of the house) so that was not true. When we told them this then they said..."Oh, then we didn't get a cancellation letter." They did not ask for it when we cancelled and why would they put it on hold if we had not contacted them to cancel in the first place.

Now they send a letter of demand... threatening to take us to court if we do not pay $37. Bully tactics and I'm mad. It's not a lot of money but it is fraudulant business practice and it turns my stomach. They figure the little guy will just pay and be done with it.

Please research LocalNet and watch your credit card statements.

Local net Corp does not respond to cancel service and have been pulling from my bank account for over 4 Years. How are we supposed to get reimbursed? I have proof of Internet from other Providers. This business is taking people's money and we seem to have no way to cancel. Please review their complaints so they can stop Ripping of All of Us!

Canceling account is like pulling teeth. You must first get through on their phone line and then are told that the only way to cancel their services is via a letter. Which you must snail mail or fax.

I did this two months ago, and since they say they did not receive it, I am still being charged for the service. I have not even used their service for 9 months!

I attempted to cancel my service. This company made it impossible to cancel. I was told to fax my request, which they claim not to have received, but have notes in my file reporting that i tried and that I wanted to cancel. Now I have to keep paying for another two months. This is criminal.

DO NOT sign up with this company, they will make it impossible to cancel the service. It is a total ripoff.

I would NEVER recommend this company.

I have had the same issue. I called and canceled in 2013 when i was moving but wouldn't allow it over the phone so i sent the email from the account with my information asking for cancellation. fast forward 2015 i close an old checking/savings account. then i get a demand letter for $43.90, they were taking money from my savings for a year and a half, shame on me for not catching that. As mentioned above i have moved i no longer even have a land line for their dial up service, haven't logged on since 2013. They said i was belligerant on the phone in 2013 and said i hung up on them and they received no follow up email. Now I get the same customer service rep and i get hung up on everytime i question about the charges. I did finally pay and they told me they also closed my account (without written notice) gave me a confirmation number... phone calls are recorded... i made a complaint with the BBB and if i get charged again i now have the ammo to get a lawyer involved and have the phone calls brought in as evidence.

I am very disappointed with their service. I asked to cancel and I haven't had them for many years. I didn't realize they were still taking out of my account. I tried to cancel and they said I had to send an email directly thru their website to cancel or a letter. It should not be that complicated to cancel something. It should be easy and no hassle! This is not good customer service! LocalNet is NOT a good company, especially when trying to cancel!

LocalNet Internet Services this company needs to be put out of business!

I don't know the address of the company, but the name is Localnet. I started doing business with them earlier this year and at first thought that they were great.

Then all of a sudden I started getting dropped connections pretty frequently I dealt with it until after a thunderstorm on June 17, 2007. I had one computer online when the lightening struck, which burned out the modem. Ok, that is understood. I was outside when the storm hit and wasn't able to get in fast enough to get the computer offline.

However, I have three computers in my house: an old one that was not being used at all, but is still sitting where it was unplugged, a brand new one that was the recipient of the strike and a laptop.

I plugged the laptop into the phone line that I had the fried computer plugged into and was able to connect to the Internet. The connection was immediately dropped. I tried again every few seconds with the same result. I called Localnet's technical support and they told me that they were not experiencing any problems and it was my phone line, so I called my local phone company. They sent a repairman out to check the lines and he found a minor problem so he fixed it.

I tried to connect to Localnet again and was immediately bumped off as so on as the connection was made. I called them again to find out what was up. Again, they blamed the phone company, so again, I called the phone company.

The repairman called me and we talked about what the issues were that I was having (he was very pleasant). He came out and completely switched my lines. Tried again to connect to Localnet, was able to browse for ten minutes and was then bumped off. I called tech support again, again they blamed the phone company.

In summary, this went on for two weeks, with the repairman from the telephone company coming out THREE times and putting in new lines, switching the line at the pole and doing whatever else he could to help me. STILL had problems with connecting. The repairman from the telephone company connected
on my lines to HIS ISP with NO problems.

When I called Localnet and explained this, they told me it was my COMPUTER. Mind you, all THREE computers were having this problem and they blamed the computer. After a week of trying to get them to fix the problem (and one tech support guy actually admitting that they WERE having problems with a certain link in their system (bet he no longer works with them since he admitted fault with them) I told them I wanted to cancel the account since I couldn't use it. They said ok.

I left it at that only to find that they had already taken money for the month out of my bank account. I asked for a refund and they said that since my billing cycle was halfway through (billing cycle was the 10th of each month, I called to cancel it with their knowledge that I had not been able to connect for a week, somewhere around the 24th.) I didn't take note of the date because I really didn't think that I would have to. They took another month payment out of my account on the 29th of June.

I called them about the money they took out of my account and they said it was for service and that in order to cancel the account, I would have to send them a letter in writing. I was unable to do this until the 3rd of July at which time I FAXED the request for cancellation and also told them that they were no longer authorized to take money out of my account. On the 5th, they sent out an acknowledgment of cancellation, however on the 12th of July, they took $24.95 out of my bank account, causing an overdraft. When I called them to inform them that I wanted that money, plus the overdraft amount, refunded back to me, they told me tough. It was the middle of the billing cycle they said and they billed for services.

I had been UNABLE to use the service since the 17th of June. Since the 24th of June I had signed up with a different (and local to me) service provider and had NO problems keeping connected even using the SAME computers that Localnet was blaming for my problems with them.

This company needs to be put out of business and a class action suit needs to be filed against them.

Same story here as well. I called LocalNet to cancel my service due to poor performance. They told me I had to notify them in writing. Each time I sent notification by mail they "did not receive it". It took me four letters, two faxes, and six phone calls before my service was finally cancelled...all the while, charging me for a service I did not use. Any calls attempting to get this money refunded were met with a hang-up. Legitimate businesses do not act this way.

I agree this company is in my opinion very deceptive. I cancled my service in July. A phone call was not enough for them to honer my request. They want a follow up letter. In my mind adding this unnessery step is a sly way to get extra money out of you. They got 3 extra payments out of me. So far it has taken 2 letters and 3 phone calls. I will now have to call my credit card co. to make sure they don't allow another charge. I agree LOCALNET SUCKS

same story, i told them to contact my attorney. my attorney advised me for future issues, told me to cancel using MY email service, print out and have notorized same day. save it and cover your ### so to speak. their service was acceptable but after the hell they've put me thru trying to cancel for going on six months while going in and out of the hospital! i finally spoke with two reps today with no resolution, not even a hint of compassion, little did they care that i have cancer and won't be around this time next year but on the bright side they'll never see another penny from me, and with any luck someone will do a search prior to signing up with them and find this entry. in conclusion all i can say is stay away from LOCALNET as the nicest thing to say about them is that LOCALNET SUCKS.
