Bernadette Garcia came with her husband, to my farm in Spring Grove, PA to look at a Welsh mare on April 14, 2012. After seeing the grey Welsh mare, Maranatha Tiara, 13.1 hands, untrained, but extremely quiet, sweet and perfect in all ways, Bernadette said that she definitely wanted the mare, after only looking at her for about 10 minutes and watching her move, etc. Her price was a very reasonable $2500. She gave me a deposit of $500. on her at that time. Then I showed her my other ponies, including the sire of the mare, *Telynau Bronze Statue, and the dam, Woolen Hills Treasure. Also two full sisters of Tiara's and various other ponies, totaling about 20 head.
Bernadette stayed in touch with me with text and email, and then had the idea that she would take another 3 ponies that I had for sale, when she had Tiara picked up, and she would have them trained at her farm and then when she sold them, she would pay me $2500 each for them. I don't have a trainer here, and I broke my leg very badly the end of March, so I was having a lot of problems with getting work done on my 60 acre farm here, where I live alone, and maintain by myself at age 60. Bernadette kept saying she was trying to help me out as she could see things were quite difficult for me at that time. And it seemed a fair plan to me, and so I made up a contract and emailed it to her. She never signed it though, saying that her computer wasn't working properly and a bunch of other excuses. Stupid me, I believed her.
Finally after many weeks went by she had a big truck stop by here at midnight on May 10th. The truck, an 18 wheeler, stayed out at the end of my driveway, as the turn was too tight to get in my long lane. So I walked the ponies out, first one that went on was a 6 yr. old gelding, Maranatha Arabesque, grey roan, no markings, 12.1. The next was Maranatha Tiara, the grey mare Bernadette, had given me the deposit on, but hadn't finished paying for. But the driver of the truck was very abusive and yelling and cursing about having to stop here, when he wasn't planning on it etc. He was throwing things around and wouldn't help load the ponies either. I had to do it myself. Finally one of the other ponies waiting to go on, spooked and ran back up my driveway. I then decided I'd had enough, and brought back the other pony, a 3 year old filly to the barn. So it was actually lucky that the man was so badly behaved or I would have lost 2 more ponies to Bernadette. She now has the two, Arabesque and Tiara, and won't pay me for them. Told me she would, then told me my ponies were so badly behaved and wild that the gelding broke her foot, that she then couldn't work, so didn't have the money. Then next week it would be some other excuse. But I never thought she wouldn't pay me, she's a doctor, who would assume a doctor wouldn't pay ?
At this point in time, I understand that Bernadette is telling lies about me at horse shows, that she says I'm crazy, abuse my ponies and sheep, won't accept her money. Has tried to pay me. All kinds of crazy lies.
Also I found another person in SC, that sold a pony to Bernadette in January with a deposit only. And Bernadette won't pay the 6K she owes on that pony either. So it seems that Bernadette has found a way to steal ponies from innocent people without paying for them. People with little money that are trusting and honest. In all my 25 years of breeding and selling purebred Welsh ponies, I've never encountered a person as underhanded and deceitful as Bernadette Garcia. And I've bred and sold well over 40 ponies in that time. I've even sold ponies to people out west, sight unseen, that only see videos and pictures of the ponies they are buying from me. And those people were surprised at how great the ponies were when they arrived. I sold Arabesque's full sister to a woman in Missouri, just through the internet, and that pony, Maranatha Pirouette, is now a Champion many times over, out in that part of the country.
Bernadette also purchased a bottle lamb at that time when she came to look at the mare. It was a purebred Katahdin, triplet ram lamb, that was only a week old, but had been born with a dislocated hind leg. He didn't seem in pain or discomfort, but he couldn't keep up with his two sisters, so I had him in the barn with another bottle lamb that had lost her mother at one week of age. Bernadette asked me if I would sell her the little ram lamb, which surprised me, and so I told her yes and sold him for $50 cash at that time. They made him into a house pet and she had pics on her facebook of him too.
Then she wanted a friend for "lamby" so I agreed to sell her another bottle lamb a few weeks later, a new black ram lamb that had literally been lost by his mother few hours after birth, out in the pasture. I expect he was either a twin or a triplet. But I couldn't find his mother, so he became another bottle lamb. I have over 150 sheep in a very large pasture, and when they are all lambing in the same month, you can understand how this could happen. Especially when most ewes have twins and triplets. Bernadette took weeks to send her husband down, a 5 hour drive to pick up this second lamb, but even though I had many other people that wanted him, I had told her she could have him, so I stuck to my word. That's just the kind of person I've always been.
I farm for a living. Raise Welsh ponies and Katahdin sheep. You can see in this sheep pic that there is a Great Pyrenees guardian dog with the flock. I take very good care of my animals and make a very subsistence living doing it. But I take the care and health of my animals very seriously. My guardian dogs protect my sheep from predators, as we have coyotes here, and I couldn't stand raising sheep if they were in danger of being slaughtered or wounded by dogs or other predators.
The other two pics are of the gelding Maranatha Arabesque, trotting, and Maranatha Tiara, standing.
Thanks for taking the time to read about my very real and very unsetting dealings with Bernadette Garcia, (Pupilla). This year has been very difficult for me, and I will not be breeding anymore ponies after this year.

I agree with the complaint made by the farmer in PA, and disagree with the counter-complaint made by the person "boot234." I have known the "little farmer woman in PA" all my life, and she is honest, hard working, and would never hurt any of her animals. they are well fed and are given every benefit of her extensive experience and knowledge. Her farm is beautiful, well organized, and she is the hardest worker I have ever known. She would deny herself food or comfort before she would ever compromise the well-being of her animals. She breeds and raises the ponies, and they are well behaved and good with people. She does not do the final training of her ponies for the show ring, and that is why her prices are so reasonable. Others have purchased her ponies and trained them to be champions, and then sold them for much more, because they are so intelligent, gentle, and responsive. The comments made regarding the "Mare with no udders" and sickly, uncared-for sheep are absolutely not true, and could be deemed absurd if they were not so hurtful.
The woman who only paid the down payment for the ponies and said she sent money fed-ex is trying to slander her. She did not send the money. I have no idea why the doctor horse-woman in Long Island is so full of unkindness and bitter words. She has had trouble before, and has been ruled against in partial summary judgment in 2004 for failure to pay for "boarding and training services." I do not know why she refuses to pay for services or animals she previously agreed to pay for, and perhaps she herself does not know why. She did send one of the ponies back to the PA farmer, but, in an email I received today from the PA woman, "he had been abused and has a whip mark on his nose and is afraid of people now. " This is a very sad situation. The farmer in PA has been struggling during this difficult economy, and works hard to maintain her farm and animals. She was so happy to have sold these 2 ponies so that she could have more income than these past months have brought in. To be so slandered buy the person who refused to follow through on the agreement is especially hurtful. I am glad the gelding is back in PA. Hopefully he will recover from the treatment he received while he was in New York.
