LegalZoom.com Unauthorized charges

Same here! They ran this garbage on me too! I guess this is regular practice. I would recommend anyone to do it themselves. It cot $25 in my state of NJ and not the $300 they charge per year to just forward you emails about when your taxes are due or that it is time to renew with them and give up another $300 for nothing. Sadly these are just lawyers being lawyers and trying to separate you from your money. Sad. I thought they were different, but I guess thieves will always be thieves. They don't provide you with ANY help in getting your self as a registered agent. They make it sound so confusing and such a pain to get it down that they hope to discourage you. SMH... never again... I will go to the local clerk next time and every time for now one when I have a new LLC.

Also to boot, I was told they would PRORATE me the difference after I finally get my change from the state. Horrible customer service! Would never recommend to anyone... EVER!

Very interesting company. it been more than 2 weeks and was promise a 4 manual physical checks of $399. money taken out of my account for service I had call and canceled . charging my debit card which i never provided to legalzoom. . more of a scam than a legit company.

Total garbage . scamming people. they can not be trusted. it has been more than 2 weeks they promise 4 refunds of $399 in physical manual checks and have not seen any mail from legalzoom. charging my debit card for $399 after calling and informing them i do not need a registered agent service as my business was no longer operational. charging my debit card which i never provided them with the number. what a lack of moral and ethical compass

LegalZoom.com Scam

LegalZoom was the opposite of helpful. I signed up with them to start a sole proprietorship - even had multiple conversations with customer service agents who set my account up with what I was told would be necessary for my business to be up and running. Two months and $165 later, they filed a DBA and did nothing for my actual license. When I called to ask where the license was, they THEN informed me that they do not handle business licenses and only prepared what was necessary for my business name. When I expressed my incredible dismay about the price I paid for a service that is not only ridiculously simple but also not worth $165, I was told that $99 of it was the price of them filing for me. I have wasted large amounts of money now - thinking that I was cleared for a license that they could not get for me. No one bothered to mention that in my conversations prior to placing an order that they set up for me. Now, I am out time AND money, which are incredibly precious in my position. I will NEVER do business with them again, and I will ENSURE everyone that I know stays away from them as well. They were clearly looking to make a quick buck off of someone who was asking for a pie and received a sliver. When I was discussing my concerns with them (very respectfully) I was hung up on by one of their agents as well. Thanks a lot, LegalZoom.

LegalZoom.com Unauthorized Charges to My CC

Registered Agent "service" is a scam from Legal Zoom. they made has made an unauthorized charge to my bank account for $159. They sold me a service for which I agreed to pay a stated price. You authorize Legal Zoom to debit your bank account for installments to cover the service you are purchasing. They did not offer me the option to just pay it out up front . To complete your order you accept the terms & conditions by checking a box. You assume that the terms and conditions relate only to the service for which you have agreed to purchase but that is not the case. Mentioned somewhere in lengthy terms is an entirely separate service to act as the Registered Agent for the company you have formed. This service is $159 and is not included in the amount you agreed to. They did not wait until I recived any articles of incorporation at that time you will have made to installments on your agreement. They send an email notification reminding you when your upcoming installment payments are about to post to your account. They conveniently NEVER mention the $159 extra service fee for the registered agent service because then you may question and cancel it. You never receive an email about the impending charge. They simply debit your account for the full amount and wait for you to call to hear that it was not included and that when you accepted the terms and conditions you authorized payment for the service. The first person to take my call even said "we get a lot of these calls."

LegalZoom.com Recurring membership that I did not sign up for other than the trial period

I cannot beleive the length of time legal zoom has been robbing me of $7.99 per month since july 2011 till now feb 2013. I incorporated my business in july of 2011 and purchased their corporation package which apparently at the same time, I signed up for a "business advantage" 30 day trial. 31 payments have been charged to my credit card? I did not sign up for this plan past the 30 day trial period. I just checked my legal zoom account information (which I did not know I had) and could not believe my eyes when I discovered their sneaky business practices. I only assume legal zoom hopes know one notices the small charges (which add up!) being logged into their website I tried to cancel online which of course I could not do, rather they give you a phone number to call instead. I will be calling tomorrow morning to attempt to retrieve a refund for the 31 unauthorized charges. To boot, I noticed that my billing information (address) was very old?!?!? How could legal zoom successfully charge my credit card with incorrect billing information? I am definitely not the only one this has happened to. If this has happened to you, please take the 2 minutes to sign up for complaintsboard.com and reply to this comment. Dishonest business practices along with unauthorized charges should make for a valid and successful class action lawsuit. Don"t let these big companies take advantage of hard working americans!

Actually this is your fault also as you never checked your credit card billing and the fine print. There 30 Day trial clearly states it will bill till cancelled.

LegalZoom.com Didnt do the work and over billing

We attempted to use Legal Zoom to get the DBA and other minor business issues dealt with in a timely manner. It has now been
over a year, and they have not completed anything at all.
Furthermore, I paid them up front a one time fee of $99.95 to do all of the work that I requested, they imediately took the money
even thought they had not done anything, and still haven't. Then on top of that, they started billing me an additional $29.95 per month
for reasons that I do not understand. And although I have contacted them, the money is still being taken. I have been forced to put a stop payment and a fraudulent draft on my bank account in order to keepthem out of it. THEY ARE JUST ANOTHER SCAM, JUST DO THE PAPERWORK YOURSELF, ITS EASIER, SIMPLER AND CHEAPER.

They lie about what your service is i bought a llc years ago with access to form now they took them all away without notice and now charge for every single one they are a rip off

I have been working with the company since January '09 to have my LLC setup. Of course, the credit card has been charged, although I can't get the documents. Just promises and the run around. Don't waste your time. Your better off paying the high attorney fees than dealing with these UN-professionals. I could have gone to the state offices myself in this 7-month timeframe. Maybe by Xmas.

LegalZoom.com Compliment of professional services

I would like to compliment Legalzoom for providing efficient, accurate and professional services in a timely manner. I applied to form an LLC, submitted all of my information, paid the reasonable fee for this service. Within approximately 4 weeks (that was because they handled all of the filings for my state), I received notice that my small business is officially LLC'd. As a Navy Veteran I found this service to be rated "outstanding". My experience was painless, stressless and extremely gratifying. I would reccomend this service to all of my co-Veterans of every branch. Thumbs Up Legalzoom. !

LegalZoom.com Nonexistent service

5 days ago, I used legalzoom to set up my LLC. After I placed my order, I got to a confirmation page which I saved. I guess this was a good move, because I never received the confirmation email from them, promised to be sent "shortly". Since I never got the email, I tried checking my order status the day after placing the order, but I was told that my email address/password combination was not valid. I used the "forgot my password" link to receive a link to reset my password, but the email never came. I constantly receive email on my account, so the problem is not on my side. I also know that my order went through, because my bank account was charged immediately after the order was placed. The good thing is that I signed up to pay in 3 installments and I will advice my bank to not clear any additional charges until legalzoom provides a clear update on my status and a detailed timeline until receipt of my documents. HORRRIBLE service...

LegalZoom.com Complete misrepresentation of charges to my account

Hello,
I have logged onto my Legal zoom account and see that I somehow owe money? I paid a fee (rather large one at that) in full to your company for a service. Then I was charged an additional $159.00 that I was not made aware would be charged to my account. I let it go thinking perhaps it was an oversight, but now it is saying that I owe this $159.00 AGAIN?!?! I do no t see how this is in keeping with you "NO SURPRISE FEES" GUARANTEE. The fee is for a Registered Agency renewal fee? I did not or do not wish to have this service. It was absolutely a surprise fee. And the worst part is there is NO option for me to opt out of this service, which seems very shady to me. How can there be no option for me to elect out of a service that I wasn't even aware existed on my account? My faith in your company has been shattered. I would like the charges removed from my account. I would also like to delete or close my account all together. I am extremely disappointed in this service as you state "NO SURPRISE FEES". I have never been so disappointed in a company, especially one that tries to promote the image of "complete transparency" and "No Surprises". I expected more from a company that is suppose to be at the top of their respective industry. I considered myself a loyal customer, but now I don't think I would ever even consider recommending your services to ANYONE. I AM A TOTALLY UNSATISFIED CUSTOMER.

LegalZoom.com Recurring Fees

Legalzoom has been charging me for 5 months in the recurring amount of $7.99. I paid over $400 dollars for an LLC to be started, I never knew that they were going to continue to charge month to month. This is very sneaky business and I'm highly disappointed and will not recommend Legalzoom ever again. I was completely happy with the services that they offered, but after this, I'm no longer satisfied with Legalzoom and will never recommend them.

LegalZoom.com Services Charge

Since registering a Trademark with Legalzoom, I have been getting hit with a $29.99 charge every month on the 13th since 2011. The description for the transactions are "services." I am a fairly cautious buyer and I KNOW I would not have signed up for something that is indefinitely recurring. The answer from Legalzoom will be something along the lines of "you must be getting charged for a service you were unaware you signed up for."

And that's precisely the point. Legalzoom isn't the only entity online pulling these underhanded tactics, but this is the latest scam I've been pulled into and I'm going to attempt asking for a refund for all these fraudulent charges (good luck to me). I know I'm not the only one getting sucked into these fraudulent charges. Class Action lawsuit, anyone?

Final Update:

I just reviewed my account activity today: LegalZoom reversed all charges on my card. Thank you, Patty, for your assistance on this matter. Your efforts have helped restore my confidence in LegalZoom.

I also want to thank the owners of Complaints Board: I was able to get a quicker response by posting here than through LegalZooms's own customer service panel. I'm glad CSRs monitor this board and take the complaints here seriously. Consider this case closed with a smiling face. :-)

Update:

Received a call from LegalZoom this morning, explaining how they are going to stop the auto debits to my card and reverse the charges (refund what was taken from me over the past several months). So this is good news! I will make an update here again when this actually happens.

In the meantime, the explanation for the charge was as follows: While trademarking, I purchased a "package" (Inadvertently, apparently) along with my order that included free legal consultation...for one month. Then, the service was recurring at the rate of $29.99 per-month thereafter.

Patty: I think it would benefit LegalZoom tremendously to not go this route with offering package deals. The customer should be able to try out the service for a month, then have a CLEAR option to opt in after the trial period is up, not be auto-charged. If they don't make the willing effort to sign up for the service, they shouldn't be charged for it via automated systems, especially considering how vague/misleading the setup is during purchase of service from LegalZoom. I think honest, direct, and less opportunistic approaches like this from LegalZoom would cut down on complaints like mine.

LegalZoom.com Worse company I've ever dealt with

Like others I was persuaded by the advertising of Legal-zoom that they're on our side, and make things easy. How gullible was I to take that route.

I've already cancelled two further orders that I had started with them when I saw how badly they were doing with my first order.

The entire operation is a scam, they don't do what they're supposed to do, they don't listen or read their emails because if they did they'd do what we've paid them to do.

I'm now having to go to a local attorney to have him fix what legal-zoom created. I should have just went there to begin with and saved myself some hassle and money.

Thanks a bunch for your incompetence Legal-Zoom.

No thank you Patty. I don't believe LZ are competent enough to deal with a complaint. Your company is that bad. Funny how the only time they pretend to listen is when they see a complaint. Perhaps they should listen to their customers before it gets to this.

LegalZoom.com Mispelled my company's name TWICE

Legalzoom couldn’t even spell my company’s name right.
I didn’t want to spend the time to file my LLC and EIN myself so I thought that Legalzoom would be quick, easy, and I wouldn’t have to worry about any mistakes, how wrong I was. When I received my EIN and LLC paperwork back the company’s name was misspelled on BOTH in two completely separate ways, but all the emails they sent me had the company’s name correct (so I obviously didn’t enter it wrong). I emailed them about the issue on the 17th and received an auto-generated email stating that someone would be in contact with me within 1 business day but I didn’t receive a response until 5 days later on the 22nd I received another email only stating that a specialist had been assigned to my account. 3 days after that on the 25th I received an email telling me that I should just call customer service (and not even anyone in particular), it took them over a week to just tell me that and the 25th was a Saturday and they don’t have weekend hours.
So I wait a few days until customer service is open. I wait on hold for about 40 minutes for someone to answer (funny when I was placing my order someone called me immediately and was there to answer my questions but when I have problems no one answers). So they have an option for someone to call you back, so I push 1 for someone to call me back, no one did.
So I sent another email asking for a refund of the $900 I spent to have this done. Then I magically get a call from Mary from escalations. She wants to file an amendment for me which would take 8-10 business days. In Illinois it takes about 2 business days to file for an LLC online. So I told her no, I just want a refund so I could file myself. She said she’d refund their fee but wouldn’t refund the $600 filing fee. At this point she became very rude. After I got off the phone with her I talked to an Assistant Manager Johnny at ext. 7282. I wanted Johnny to give me a full refund but he had to talk to escalations but promised me he would call me back that day. I still haven’t heard from Johnny either. I received another call from Mary after that, where she still never gave me an extension to call her back at, but Mary was even ruder than before. I told her to give me a refund or I was going to file a dispute with the credit card company, she told me “go ahead”. I also left a message for Patty Chikamagalur ext 8720, the Customer Care Manager that was responding to all the complaints on Measuredup and ComplaintBoard but she didn’t call me back either.
I really don’t want Legalzoom touching anymore of my legal documents. If they can’t even spell my company’s name right I don’t want to know what else they messed up. Plus if there was an issue with my filing, with the run-around I’ve been receiving so far I can’t imagine trying to get them to correct something else. Thankfully though, since they spelled my company’s name wrong, my real company’s name is still available for me to file for the LLC and EIN myself (which I should have done from the start).
So save yourself the money and aggravation and avoid Legalzoom.

LegalZoom.com Business Pro Advantage Membership

I had LegalZoom do an LLC for me and bought the "gold" package that included a "free" trial of its Business Pro Advantage Membership. What LegalZoom doesn't tell you is that they will continue to bill your credit card month after month to extend this "free" membership at $29.99 a month. I never authorized a continuation of this service, yet was continually billed for it. I was never sent an email or received a phone call that notified me that this would be continually charged to my credit card. I had to log-on to LegalZoom's website to find out just what this charge was for. One of the reasons you can pick for cancelling Business Pro Advantage is "I never knew I had this service." So, if that is one of the reasons your own company lists, you know you are screwing people. Beware of this, if you are going to use LegalZoom. I agree, LegalZoom does not allow corporate or service cancellations on-line.

They trust me to run my business, but not to manage my services.

LegalZoom.com Shady practices

I used LegalZoom several years ago to create a will and they seemed OK.
Used them again recently to set up an LLC and noticed a drastic decline in the quality of their services. I had to call recently because my 30-day "free use" of their document library was about to expire and they were going to start charging me for this service, which I never used. The rep kept repeating the sales pitch over and and over again, despite my clear-cut insistence that I was cancelling. They also sold my phone number to Web Com, who've been calling repeatedly to sell me web design services.
In short, beware of overcharging for minimal work, hidden fees, and unwanted sales calls from third parties.

Follow up

Also, DO NOT opt for having LegalZoom serve as your Registered Agent as they will charge yo a lot for minimal work (forwarding letters!).
After some research, I found out that I can be my own Registered Agent, which of course LegalZoom never advised me of.

It's nice to get a response, but I have no interest in any further access to your Legal Plans, even if "free, " as I will not use them.
Similarly, I have no interest in having WebCom design a web site for me, as I have friends who can do this.
I have to add that I was unaware that I was being enrolled in or asking for these services, which reenforces my feeling that your applications and order forms are designed to generate additional fees for LegalZoom, not to help the consumer.

LegalZoom.com Business licenses

When dealing with the business licenses portion/partner of legal everything is ok until you call and talk to a customer service rep. Let me say they dont know the meaning of customer service, well at least not the person I talked to. I just called to ask that when the send the package do they also mail it or do they just email it, because I had been told by a rep that it had already been e-mailed to me but I hadnt got it. I was cool and I just asked can they mail it to me, no problem at all, the lady said ok she put in a request to have it also mailed to me, still no problem. I was a satisfied customer that is until before getting off the phone i just verified that she was going to mail it. I guess she didnt want me to ask her that again, because she said YES MA'AM in a very attitude like way. I said Im sorry that I bothered you by asking you that. She said thats ok, um good by in a hurry and hung up before I could say anything else. I called back to speak to a manager and somehow got her on the phone, and I asked to speak to a manager. she asked if there was something she could do for me. At the time I didnt know it was her until I started explaining my situation. She then said that she wasnt being rude and that she was only trying to help me. I wasnt born yesterday and can tell when someone is getting an attitude with me, Im telling you this, I didnt even say this to her. I just told her that I felt she had an attitude earlier, and that I dont feel she should have been talking to me this way for just asking a question, or no other paying customer for that matter especially being that I said nothing rude to her or had no attitude towards her, that is until now. She said she couldnt put a manager on the phone because she is the head of the department. I think they can find a better head than her. She should just give her job to someone who can handle someone asking a simple question without getting an attitude.I work with customers all the time, and I know that some people may be having a bad day or might say or do something rude, but that wasnt the case with me. She was rude with me. I will just be glad to recieve my package so I dont have to deal with them anymore. For anybody who has to deal with her when they call I wouldnt recomend using this service, go elsewhere, that is of course if you want to be treated respectfully.

LegalZoom.com Worst company ever

Legalzoom is the worst company I have ever delt with a day in my life. I started a business through them and there doc were very hard to read with a lot of misleading fine print. I accidently checked something I shouldn't have and they started charging my card 12.99 a month. I call them tell them there not allowed to charge my card anymore, they not only told me no but they said I had to spend 70 more on more papers with fine print to get them to stop charging my card. I got mad and said your not allowed to touch my card again, I hung up figured that was that. Today I had an overdraft in my bank because legalzoom had been taking money out of my account long after I told them to stop. I called and got mad and they said because my business had to have someone to execpt legal docs and because I had accidently checked that, so unless I spend 70 more to make me the people to get them I had no choice but to take there service even thou I didn't want that service. I yelled at them and they hung up the phone on me. I had to cancel my credit card to get them to stop charging me for a service I never wanted. I reported them to BBB, legalzoom is the worst company I ever delt with a day in my life.

LegalZoom.com The worst ever

Over 2 month ago I paid quite a sum of money for them to set up a LLC for me. The contract with them stated that it will take up to 35 days to get all my paperwork for the LLC. I never heard anything back on the status and on the website the status was blank too. Never ever anyone worked on it for 2 month. I contacted them twice and then finally got an answer telling me that the name I had chosen was not good and I have to pick a new name. That took them more 2 month to do. I wonder if I will ever get what I have paid for. A real disaster and I would give 0 points if I could.

LegalZoom.com RIP OFF!

My husband recommended I use Legal-Zoom for a Power of Attorney I had to create to sell my car. I signed up and $40 later they created a very detailed form for me to use. I didn't end up using it because there was too much verbiage and what they wrote in 7 papers, I was able to condense in 1 page. I ended up using a template of M. Word!

I'm not one to ask for my money back so when they called to follow-up, I just stated my problems and wasn't expecting anything. I was told that if I was 100% happy, I'd receive my money back.

Unfortunately, not only did I never receive credit for the purchase, they will NOT stop billing me for some BOGUS charge! I never signed up for anything! I have called every month to ask them to take this off. Every month, they lie and say it was done.

EXTREMELY UNHAPPY! STOP TAKING MY MONEY!

LegalZoom.com Stay away

I had Legalzoom prepare an LLC. They misspelled my business name. I had to file amendments to repair it and get all new documentation. But the worst part is they enrolled me with a registered agent that keeps billing me. I was not advised that I could be my own agent. I filed a change with the state no problem. Business was not in good standing for failure to report. Still, National Registered Agents continue to bill me. Not cool. Called NRAI and they said I was required to submit a cancellation in writing to cease their services but I would still be required to pay bill. This is the first I've heard of that. There gonna waste a lot of paper and postage trying to get that money! I will gladly pay for services received, but refuse to pay for services not rendered. Legalzoom is supposed to explain and give an option to allow you to be your agent but they did not. They advised me that NRAI handled that service and signed me up!

I called to set up a new medical PA. I was advised on certain documents, but these were not the ones I needed. In addition, I had to call and follow-up on my tax ID because they never did. Then, as I went forward with a new business, an advisor realized the corp. was wrong, so I had to pay an attorney to redo everything. Legalzoom claims no responsibility and refuses any refund.

I have the same problem with Legalzoom.com I was charged almost $255 for services that I didn't subscribe too, also all the charges to my account where all unauthorized. Never again I will do business with Legalzoom.com

I am on hold to try to get my money back after this same deceptive billing practice. They have an automatic billing of a product I have never used and never plan to. The product was listed under optional and then had an asterik to fine print stating the autocharge. Very deceptive and in my opinion a fraudulent way to do business. If you are going to sell a product then the client should know about it clearly, not hidden in the fine print of the fine print!
