Lancaster General review: Lancaster General hospital ripoff 3

My husband had a DAY surgery procedure done on 8/17/12. It was done at the Lancaster General Health Campus OUTPATIENT facility. From the time he was checked in and discharged was a little under 2 hours. We could not believe it when we received the bill showing they billed $11, 000. I wrote a letter to the president of the hospital to have him explain to me how they could justify these charges. Off course he sent the letter to the billing department. Even though he was a DAY surgery patient, I was told that because the facility is an entity of the hospital that they could bill as if he were in a hospital setting. How unfair is this? I have worked in medical billing for 17 years and I know when I am being ripped off! Just because Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement has gone down, they are coming after the private insurance companies and paying patients. No wonder health care rates are what they are! I have put an appeal into my insurance company to take some of the monies back. They were grossly inflated. I have recently been on our local news about this. It is unfair, unethical and morally wrong.

My wife went into LGH with a temperature of 104, and after spending all day from 9am to3pm in the emergency room. Having a battery of test several of them for blood, and the doctor coming in only twice to see her then said (DUH nothing is wrong with you; then they said she had a touch of the flu). After sending her home they called her back over six hours later and said come back in we found something wrong with your test. Now after they discharged her and called her back in the same day, and get this (they charged her for two emergency room visits) in which the insurance company only paid for one of them; even though, they orginally made a misdiagnosis with her. I believe with this obama care the hospitals are being cut back with Medicare and we are paying for all of the illegals who don't have insurance. And we just recently found out that the emergency room doctor who examined her charged us over eighth hundred dollars for a visit because they claim that they are not a participating doctor in her insurance plan. This sounds like a scandal the hospitals are perpetrating to make money for themselves. Like the so called double billing they would do with the insurance companies and the patients.
