LA Fitness International - Cancelled but they kept billing

I phoned LA Fitness to cancel my wifes membership that had gone unused for quite some time. I was told I had to come into the gym to cancel. We drove to the gym where we were told we needed a form filled out and sent to their corporate office. We were provided with the form and membership number. Friends and family have told me stories about quitting gyms in the past so I was diligent and sent the form to the address provided right away. That was February. It is now June my wife says the gym is still charging us. Sure enough it shows up on the direct debit.

I phoned the gym and spoke with the front desk who apologized and promised to ring me back shortly. She phoned back within thirty minutes. She said that there was no record of receiving my form and that the best they could do is stop billing immediately. Sounded like a scam to me for sure.

If you send in a cancellation form be sure to tell the person at the gym that you will be sending it registered mail (and do it!). I will complain again if the billing does not stop. Stay tuned...

La Fitness is the worst company I have ever dealt with. Anyone would have to nuts to sign anything with them. Right now I am too angry to write anymore. I have to cool off be fore I add anything else.

My story is very similar. I cancelled my membership in August. I drove to the gym, the gal cancelled my membership, printed me a form to send, put it in mail immediately, and it's January and I am still being billed. I called the manager, he was somewhat apologetic, but said there was unfortunately nothing he could do as there is no proof I sent in the letter. Huh, funny how it states in your computer that I cancelled in August! It's a scam, and stealing at best. Make sure to send in your letter certified.

I've been fighting to get mine cancelled for 9 months. Each month the local LA Fitness apologizes and say they'll take care of it, and each month it shows up again on my credit card. I disputed the charge with my credit card and they started blocking payment. Unbelievably, the collection department at LA Fitness started harassing me.

Will never ever ever do business with these people again. I'm starting to think an attorney is the only way out of this mess. I'm tired of dealing with it and want to move on.

LA Fitness makes it next to impossible to cancel -- make sure you send the cancellation notice certified mail with signature required receipt for your records.

Even if if you freeze your account they will bill you 2 additional months at the full rate and then another 2 months after you freeze the account.

Their staff is rude and unprofessional ( But hey that's what you get for minimum wage).

All the good instructors leave because they only pay them $12 a class. The pool and jacuzzi are constantly closed. The locker rooms are gross.

I had a gym male member scream and curse at me in front of the front desk person and she stood there and laughed.
I joined a better gym ( Family -owned and operated). The gym is clean and the staff is awesome and the instructors are incredible and paid on an incentive basis. LA Fitness is a greedy, corporate conglomerate that only cares about selling as many memberships as possible with no regard for their customers. NEVER GOING BACK! BUYER BEWARE!
