LA Fitness International - pro results personal training

I am not happy at all with the aggressive and high-pressure sales tactics employed by LA Fitness for their Pro Results personal training program! I'm sure there are success stories out there, but certainly LA Fitness has a lot to learn about customer service. I just had a truly awful experience with LA Fitness and their Pro Results program and sales staff...

LA Fitness International awful company

I recently moved and are now living far from the nearest LA Fitness center. I stopped by before I moved out to terminate my membership. They told me I need to send them a filled out form by mail. Ridiculous. I printed it our and sent it. A month later I saw I am still being charged. I called them. They said "they have no record of my cancellation". How convenient! I filled the form again and sent it as a certified mail to have the proof of me mailing and them receiving.

The charges continued. I closed my bank account, and now I am getting calls from LA Fitness asking me to update my banking account information. I said I canceled my membership but for some reason it's still open.

I had been with LA fitness for over a year. I had just renewed my credit card which I authorized LA fitness to charge. Before the LA fitness charge is posted to my new card, I went in to the LA fitness staff and told them I am using a new card so they can charge the cost to new card, and they said it is OK, nothing more nothing less. However, When I get my card bill today, they had posted a charge of extra $5 on my card. I called LA fitness and they have this REALLY Long Hold for over 20 minutes. Then the representative told me it is my responsibility to make sure my card information is current. I told her I did. She said the charge is just because they put on me for not able to give them the update quick enough. this is *** ###. I told them more then a week ahead, they either did not update their system on time or they just simply ignored my require until the deny of charge came in. Either way, it is not my problem they been denied charge. Even if it is, what can do they is simply give me a $5 credit to keep me happy, instead, they blamed me for all fault and just keep talking to argue with me. So much so for customer service. Then I told the rep. that I am going to travel for a month out of the country, so I need to freeze my account for a month. However, she said the fee to freeze is $25 rather then the $10 which was on my contract. When I asked her why, she said that they have changed contract, but they change the contract without notice. I have never get any notice and from them. So whatever you signed with them they can change any time they want without notice the consumer. What tyep of *** contract this is? I am really pissed and I want to see if there is lawyer there willing to do a classic action against them on this silly contract.

I am going to terminate my membership. They just do not care customer at all. Once they get you singed in, basically they say they can change contract without notice you, so why bother sign the contract? it is just whatever they say and whatever they charge you. So be aware of the ### like LA fitness. If they are so good for let $5 to offend a customer, you can see how much they care you as a member.

i've been paying on this membership since I lived in Portland, 3 years at 10 bucks a month ($300), I wasn't allowed to cancel nor get a refund when I moved 100 miles away - within a month of getting the membership. When asked to speak with a manager, I was told a call back would be performed, to no avail. Upon calling today, I was told my membership would be canceled but there was no way to refund any of the monies that I had paid into it, including the pending payment on my acct for this month. Furthermore, when trying to contact someone via their online services, it directs you NOT to a corporate customer service number, but to the branch itself. With this company it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to get a MANAGER on the phone. Who is trying to get clientele with great customer service? Obviously, NOT LA FITNESS!

LA Fitness LIES about the way you need to cancel the member ship. When you go in to sign up they tell you that you need to give them the first and last month fee. You give them either you bank accout info or credit card info for auto deductions. When you are ready to stop using their services (in our case my son is going back to college) he gave them 20 days notice from his last billing date. They are now telling him that he needed to give them a notice not 20 days but a month and 20 days prior to cancellation. These people are RUDE and inappropriate. They would not listen to me or my son and refused to help or even listen to us in any way. We live in Greenwood Indiana. I will call their Corporate Headquarters to try and get this resolved but I am not hopeful. I am turning them in to the Better Business Bureau!

..lies, uh, excuse me, Miss Information is the CorpoNazi Religious ethic. what a bunch of sleezy [censored]s, my local clubs pool has be closed for months, ("for cleaning"), the 'holes had a pissin' contest with the contractors about who should 'fix' the faulty air handlers, during witch time mold developed on the cheap chinese wallboard, so I'm guessin' that's being replaced.
Can't really tell 'cause black plastic is covering the windows like some secret CIA/NSA project is in there.

I had the same experience as the original post and Cat Bane. I sent in the cancellation form (which is a ridiculous procedure to begin with) and they claimed that they never received it. I was billed an additional month before they finally acknowledged my cancellation.

This situation has the makings of a consumer fruad class action.

I had almost the exact same scenario. The first cancellation notice I filed was conveniently never acknowledged. After much drama I was only able to get them to "freeze" the account (at a charge of 10 dollars a month) while I sent a second cancellation request (certified mail). They finally quit billing me but not before they came up with other convoluted charges before I was able to get free of the contract. Today (many months later) I received a "we want you back" e-mail and when I opted to unsubscribe, can you guess what happened? Conveniently the link is broken and there is no access to customer service unless you create an account with them. This has been one of the most frustrating consumer experiences I have ever had. I think their poor business practices hurt the industry as a whole. I for one will never sign a contract with a fitness center again.

LA Fitness International scammers and liars

I've joined the LA Fitness in May of this year. The salesperson promised that the pool will be open in a week. I was also told that as part of my contract I can bring a friend for free at any time.

It's been two months and the pool is not ready yet. I also brought a friend with me and they made her pay $20 for the visit! After 20 minutes of arguing they said they will credit the money back to her card. It's sad I was deceived by them. I will try to cancel my contract and forget I ever was their client.

LA Fitness at the Little Rd. location in Arlington, Tx. apparently trains their staff to lie, cheat, and steal. They lie about your contract, they cheat you on the services, and they steal money from your checking account. It's like they are playing at running a business. They are totally disgusting, unprofessional, and desperate for money. If I was in their corporate office, I would certainly put this location down for a thorough audit. They must be stealing from the company if they are treating their customers like this.

LA Fitness International chris burnette

Horrible behavior from a self proclaimed "sales manager" at the Navajo Road LA Fitness in San Diego. When I signed up, I never received a fitness bag, water bottle, or even a key ring which other members tell me they were freely handed. I even enrolled in the personal trainer program. So when I noticed a stack of hand towels with the LA Fitness logo being given away, I picked one up. CHRIS BURNETTE ordered me to put the towel back. Not only did he call me thief, he said members complain too much about machines not working, cleanliness, and hand sanitizer? What the hell does that have to do with me? I've never been late on member dues, or complained about the club to him or anyone else there. And by the way, cleanliness & machine upkeep are important health & safety issues and should be reported!

I think its insane how some staff members at my LA Fitness treat guests. You deserve to be treated like royalty. The whole point of these super huge complex gyms is to create a spa like sanctuary that gives you so much more than just a gym. I am sorry you had to have such a redic. experience. I work for this company and I hate the company so much. read my post. I wish there was a better way to get through to corporate because even as an employee I feel helpless. I wish everyone on this site could band together and create a bigger voice and really expose the truth. My boss is worthless and causes more problems than he fixes. My heart hurts for members, and I hate having to admit to working for a lying stealing cheating fake company like this one. I got into this profession to HELP people, make them feel beautiful, strong, better. I want to and DO treat my clients like they are A GIFT TO ME. ANd then LA turns around and treats them like trash. I hate it :(

LA Fitness International harrasment

Today at aprox 6:00pm i received a phone call from this location in refference to my son's account, from a employee named 'Debbie'
She then proceeded to tell me about the billing, i explained to her that it was my sons account and within the past week i i spoke to yet another person from this company regarding this same issue, in which the computer noted it, i told her that i would forwarded this information to him, and please note the account to cease the phone calls. She then told me that it was to bad and the calls will continue, " i ask her excuse me"she then began to verbal harass me, and assure me that the calls won't stop, and started to use unprofessional language, and then hung up the phone"
The phone number was on my caller I.D., so i called back and spoke to the supervisor name Mindy Montgomery, and informed her that i will be filing a complaint against L.A. Fitness ASAP. She gave me her contact information and the employee name "Debbie"

LA Fitness International attempting to join

So I just found this website of complaints when trying to find a website to email a complaint to la fitness headquarters.. go figure, they dont have that ability.. they tell you to call the local la fitness and complain to the manager.

I went into my local la fitness (literally around the corner from my house) to get information about joining. I know that all of these clubs will hard-arm pressure you to join right now because this price is only good for today.. blah blah blah.. I was very up-front with the guy (christian was his name) and said I wanted to see what ameneties they had at the club, what pricing options they had, etc so I can do a compare of the different clubs in the area and determine which club is right for me.

He immediately was into the strong-arm push.. telling me that you cant compare clubs, they are all different (duh, that is why you compare them) and that he cant just "give me a pricing plan" because the prices change every day and they dont have that ability.. that he could sign me up right then but he could give me pricing to use as a comparison.

By then I am obviously getting annoyed.. and very calmly said, "you realize I am about to walk out the door and never come back because you dont seem to even want to try to sell the services of this club" his response was, "well that is the way it is".

At that point I made it very clear (and possibly a little too loud), "you obviously dont need or want new business and are not even willing to talk to me about a membership.. so I guess I need to go to 24 hour or golds or somewhere the might actually give a #" and walked out the door...

No "i'm sorry", no "kiss my #", no nothing... from him or any of the "management" that was standing there.

So... am now really glad I saw all of your comments... la fitness definitely wont be an option for me.

LA Fitness International terrible experience

I have been a member of LA Fitness in Dallas TX on Walnut Hill Ln and Skillman for the past 6 months. During this time period, I kept in a locker a radio with a headset and a towel. When I initially joined I asked if this was a safe practice to keep items in the locker, with a combination lock. I was told by the staff there has never been any trouble with theft in the gym.

I arrived at the gym recently and all combination locks were removed along with all contents. When I questioned what happened I was told the fire department, upon inspection, cut all locks as this is a fire hazard. All the contents were given to 'charity' within one week of this incident. I contacted the Lieutenant of Investigations with the Dallas Fire Department and was told they would never go into a gym and cut off all the locks.

The Lieutenant suggested I take this up with the Dallas Police Department, in case this was ordered for an unknown reason. The Dallas Police Department said that they did not, nor would ever go into the gym or order someone to go into the gym and cut all locks, unless there was a specific report of a dangerous item in a locker. Should that have been the case only the specified locker would have been broken into.

Upon returning to LA Fitness to speak with the manager I was initially told the fire department came in, after their inspection, requested that all locks be removed and the fire department cut all locks. After further discussion with the manager, I told him that I had been to the fire department and gave him the information given to me by the fire department and the police department. He suddenly changed his story and stated that he was ordered by LA Fitness Corporate office to cut all locks immediately as this is a fire hazard.

All contents were given to charity, stated by the manager. There were 75 bags of contents gathered. He said there was a sign posted for 3 days to pick up your items. Unfortunately, if you were not at the gym during this time period, all items were given away. The reason these items were not stored is unknown. The reason members were not notified by email, mail is unknown.

According to the Dallas Police Department, this is theft and it is now in the hands of the Police and Fire Departments.

We are senior individuals (60 and 55) and just joined LA Fitness. They said we had to take an 'orientation' to learn about the club. Unfortunately, due to business travel my wife did this on her own. The 'orientation' turned out to be a high pressure sales pitch for personal training.

When I called, my wife was distraught and said she signed for 12 personal fitness sessions for $ 550 and we would lose 50 % of this if we canceled. The wife took one session and decided it was too much and she would have a hard time doing two/month for six months. I told her to cancel and take the hit.

Upon my return from business, I had a letter from LA Fitness stating that 'I' had 8 personal fitness sessions scheduled per month for 6 months. I got my wife to produce a copy of the contract she had signed (but apparently not read), and realized they had signed her for 48 sessions at a cost of $ 2549, $ 549 of which had already been billed. (By the way... These automatically renew!)

These contracts are written tougher than you would get from a used car salesman, and once LA Fitness has you, apparently their business model is 'no mercy'. By the terms of the contract, LA Fitness was 'nice' enough to allow us to cancel for another $ 1000. On April 7, my wife canceled both the membership and fitness training sessions, figuring to cut our losses.

I called tonight (April 9) to see if I could reason them down to a lesser amount since $ 1550/ hour seems a ridiculous amount and found that they had not canceled either as instructed, although on April 7 they said they had. The telephone operator told me they needed $ 1000 from me BEFORE they would accept my cancellation! He said he could accept an over the phone payment. Until this amount was received, I would continue to be billed and he was trying to save me money by avoiding future billings.

I told him that I wouldn't pay except after receiving a written invoice from him for the amount they felt was fair and confirmation that I was no longer bound by the contract. He stated that their accounting structure could not invoice and insisted on a complete phone payment first or they would continue to bill. I then informed him that the credit card he has on file for me is no longer valid (I have killed it), and if he wanted payment of any sort, he had better learn to invoice.

We ended agreeing to disagree...

I have no idea where I am on this now but will certainly be talking with an attorney. Health clubs (at least in this area) are very competitive. I know my wife was stupid to have signed a contract without reading it, but anyone who picks this health club had better be really wary!

LA Fitness is a big lier and cheater. They keep charging your credit card even after they have received your cancellation letter. Here is my most recent experience with them: I will be in the college on August 25. I sent them a formal concellation letter on July 20 and they received my letter on July 23 and cancelled my membership. But on July 26, I found out they are still charging my credit card. I call their customer service center, they told me "there was no record showing that we have received your cancellation letter". I went back to my local club, they pulled out my account information which shows the cancellation letter was received on July 25. Right now, I am fighting with them to get my money back. I will NEVER NEVER do the business with LA Fitness again. Trust me, DO NOT JOIN LA FITNESS.

The exact same thing happened to me.

I joined LA fitness December 07 and had my free personal training session where that idiot of trainer told me to lose 10-20 pounds...Im 5'8" tall and 125 pounds...WTF!
I yelled at him and told him that I will never come back again, because one of my best friends nearly died because of an eating disorder.

So, the next day they called me to ask if I was alright and I said no and that I wanted to cancel the membership immediately. After trying to convince me to stay they finally agreed to send me the form. I never received anything, so I called them and they said I should go online. I did, but i didn't wanna set up an account so I called them again and the lady told me that the problem will be solved. they will call me back.
because I was graduating I didn't have the time to follow up with them.

when I canceled in MAY(!) my Swiss credit card they started calling me non stop. then I realized that they have been using my card all the time, because I was so stupid to slide my card once over there!Since then I was sent from one place to the other and apparently all their printers are out of order...sure, but they still can print out applications!

I'm working for a PR guy and he discovered in 1989 a major scam with the parking meters in LA where the city had to pay over 15 million dollars back to the people that got parking tickets at manipulated parking meters. He is very well connected and we are going to the media now. If you want to be part of it let me know.I'm trying to collect as many angry people as possible!

LA Fitness International maintenance of gym

I belong to LaFitness in East Norriton, PA. I called the corporate office to complain about the equipment not being 100%. I ask them to get a discount on my memebership because the equipment is not 100%. They told me that there have been other complaints and they would take care of it. Nothing ever happened. There have been so many complaints about this gym. The general manager is useless (Justin), but nothing will happen to him because his father is a big shot with LaFitness. Another issue is with the cleaning of the gym. One night I was in working out and notice a peice of paper on the floor, I came in the next night and that peice of paper was in the same spot, but this night they were vacuuming the floor and he was with six inches of the paper and he left it they. The people that work at this location done care about the look of the gym or the people that work out there. I'm just waiting for another gym to open up in the area

I wanted to share my experience with LA Fitness to ensure that not just LA fitness is aware of their business and their sales people, but to also forewarn others who may ever come across a similar situation as mine. This may be a lengthy note. I went to LA fitness and a sales guy was desperately trying to sign me up. He ranted about a "special" for a good 20 minutes, I signed up because i'd "miss" the special if i did the 3-day trial. At least thats what he told me. I paid $160 upfront. That is the normal price they charge so I couldve been advised to try the gym first. But the sleazy sales guy doesn't care about you. He cares about your money. He confirmed that I could get a refund if i Cancelled within the 3 days. so it was like a trial anyways. I tried the gym for two days and didn't really like it since many of the weight machines always had A LOT of weights on it that I would have to move them since the person before me wouldn't put them back. So 2 days later, I sent the sales guy a text asking to cancel. The sales guy sends the following text back to me stating "No worries. I just spoke to my VP and he mentioned he would extend and put a freeze on the acct to verify the family deal. You don't need the 3 day limit. I just confirmed with him right now." I wanted to include this verbatim to stress how important it is for any customer to get these kinds of things in writing whether on paper or text. I confirmed again I would get a refund if I cancelled after the 3 day limit and he confirmed I would. I cancelled after one week. I call the sales guy up and tell him I want to cancel my membership. He is not professional at all, by mumbling, "hey, it's fine. Ya want the money on your credit card." And I say yes that is fine. He lets me know it will be a few days and I'll get the refund. That's the last time I spoke with him because I followed up after 2 weeks via text telling him I haven't seen any refund on my credit card. 3 hours after sending him that text I get an email confirming my cancellation, but shows I got NO refund. I call him many times and text him and he does not respond to me at all. I call member services and they tell me to talk to the GM since the sales people cannot authorize any refunds on their end. Complete lack of communication on the sales guys' end who did not tell me the right way to cancel my account. you can only cancel two ways and that is calling into member services or going in person to the branch (and both ways need to be within 3 Days of opening your membership according to LA fitness policy). AND on top of that completing ignored my calls. After member services hears my WHOLE story, they advise I call the GM. I called and he confirmed I'll see refund in 5-7 days. 2 weeks later, I call the GM to tell him I still do not see anything on my card for the refund. He informs me the refund is just sitting there and it has not been processed and says I can call member services to expedite the process. So once again, I call member services, explain the WHOLE situation again and tell him about the texts and refund after three days, and he says "our contract that you sign states in BOLD you are only eligible to cancel and receive a full refund within the first three days of signing up". Extremely frustrated I tell him what I was told by sales guy. This went back and forth and he says, "if you have proof of that, then we can issue a DOM action". I told him I have texts from the sales guy that state that. ONLY then did he believe me and said he would speak to the GM and have refund processed. After 2 months of this, I finally got my refund back, but honestly, no customer should have to monitor their account to make sure they have received a refund nor tell a business a deal that was told by THEIR employee and me be questioned about it. It shows me the sales guy and the GM at my branch do not know LA Fitness's policy nor comprehend the importance of customer satisfaction despite this whole scenario. What was even more frustrating is that there is a mentality of "customer is NEVER right" when I was explaining my situation to member services. Instead of arguing with me, you should be focusing on the lies your sales people will say to get someone to sign up with them. Are they that desperate to get someone to officially sign up that they will lie about it? And then on top of that when you cancel, they don't cancel until YOU have to follow up with them?! I'm not your boss that needs to follow up on whether your doing your job. According to LA fitness policy they shouldn't make promises like that, but the big lesson here is NEVER believe the sleazy sales guy unless you have it in writing because they will not only NOT ask their own employees, but will not believe.I was told to tell the GM and sales guy in person, that I was unhappy with the service and that this shouldn't happen to anyone else. AGAIN, it is not my responsibility to train your employees on what is ethical in business. I was ONLY issued a refund because I had texts to prove that the sales guy said “the three days don’t matter”. According to your policy what the sales guy told me was a lie and I would’ve been screwed had I not texted him confirming his “false promises”. This took hours to resolve and as a working professional I don’t have time to deal with this, so I will probably NEVER recommend LA Fitness despite how good they are solely based on the fact that LA Fitness does not care about their members and though they may say they do, their actions definitely spoke louder than their words in my case. Hope this helps anyone else that is looking to join or switch a gym. Customer BEWARE.
LA Fitness just wants a person to sign up so they get "credit" for it and then completely do not care once they are a "part" of the gym and definitely do not care if there is some problem. This is where I'd advise they pay close attention because my 600 friends on Facebook and twitter followers are all aware of how annoyed I was going through this process and many of them decided not to join LA fitness (This was around New Years time). if I didn't have those texts, I would've lost my refund.

LA Fitness International cheating

We asked LA Fitness to cancel membership, After two years of collecting from my son for membership and after many calls to cancel, I sent out 3 letter, one to membership, two to cooperate. I received cooperate letters back one within a couple weeks and one after a month. They were un opened. I received a email a couple weeks ago. I asked about the closing of account. thgey said they closed it. Thet took another amount out of his account I did not know until today when I called them and the man told me my account had not been canceled I sent an anger email written below. They have gotten two years plus fees from us without service. Please see information below in my letter.

My Name is Marian Hartsfield, Forest Park, Ga. 30297
I am hoping you get this letter below is note sent to membership

I am getting a lawyer. I sent 3 letter out in Feb. 2 was sent back over a period of time un-open. You have taken addition monies from my son's account. I want his money returned.

This is theft. You received over 2 years of payment without service. I asked that it be canceled. My son asked to cancel account, he was told I had to cancel. I asked that account be canceled. You have not done that. My son asked that account be changed to him since he is paying for it you would not do that. This was two years ago. You can not steal peoples money. I am going to the news media as well as obtaining a lawyer.

In America people like you feel you can steal peoples money. I don't know who is in charge they are not answering mail I am sure my lawyer, CNN or other news media can track this. I am sure we are not the only one this kind of thing has happen to.

I am anger, I want our money back.

MArian,

LA fitness may have been the subject of several large class actions alleging similar facts to yours. Go to www.classadvocate.com. Click on the product box. Scroll down to "Consumer Service" then filter by "Health Clubs" Sounds complicated but it is self explanatory. You can also shoot me an email at the contact us section and I can forward your information to an attorney. Many attorneys love these types of lawsuits depending on your state. Good luck.

LA Fitness International disrespectful staff

Anyone thinking about joining the LA Fitness in York, PA beware!

Their business practices are very deceptive. They rope you in with attractive offers and tell you that you can cancel your membership at any time, but when you really need to cancel the story changes. They pull the "bait and switch" where they offer you one price and a set of conditions but when you go to sign the contract the price is a lot more and the conditions are much more limiting.

So be careful of what you are signing and by no means trust them when they say to you "trust me, I was given permission by my boss to give you this great deal today, but its only for today so you have to jump on it quickly." It’s all a lie and you will be screwed!

The trainers are inexperienced, and their turnover rate is high, so if you've purchased a personal training package, don't expect to see the same trainer much of the time. Don't expect that the personal training package you purchased will be tailored to your needs so if you have any kind of special circumstances that need some attention (injury for eg.) don't expect your trainer to care.

The trainers who do have some experience do not show up for scheduled sessions that are already paid for. And don't, I repeat, don't even try to express any of your concerns to the management team because you will be ignore and if you pursue it further you will be called a "f---ing ###" and will be threatened to have the police called on you. You may even be threatened to be punched in the face by that manager. And he may enlist other members to do so if he realizes that he cannot do so himself.

Take for example, this past Friday May 29, 2009, my trainer didn't show up for my scheduled session at the York, PA LA Fitness. I didn't even get a phone call or any message saying that my session was cancelled.

I showed up and my trainer is nowhere to be found. The other staff paged and paged him with no response. After a while I became impatient and asked the staff to page the manager. "The manager" came and started giving me dirty looks, hissed and stormed off calling me a "f---ing ###." I have to reiterate this; I went to talk to the manager about my missing trainer and I was called a "f---ing ###" for bothering him with my concerns.

I went to another staff person who identified himself as the new "general manager" and told him about the disrespectful way I was treated by the other manager. The new “GM” completely ignored me. He walked away to talk to other people, I'm now pissed because I've already paid for the service that I'm currently not receiving. I am the paying customer and I'm being treated like a freeloader. Like any other paying customer, I confronted him about the way I was being treated and he threatened to punch me in the face.

So to re-cap; I was blatantly disrespected (called a f---ing ###) by one manager and was now being threatened to have the police called and be thrown out of the gym by another. I purchased permission to be on the premises so said I will not leave. So he got two other members to verbally assault me and threatened to physically assault me if I didn't leave.

It sounds unbelievable, but believe it. And if you are not careful, you will be screwed over by this gym. There are already (8) eight other 'pissed off" York LA Fitness clients that I know of. If you are not careful, you could be another.

*Thanks for reading :)

As a recent ex-employee I would say if you dont mind spending a little extra and able to stay in your contract than LA fitness is okay

But I WOULD AVOID LA FITNESS like the devil!

If u want to cancel... u r screwed. u have to get a specific form fill out and send it out to corporate. U MUST send it in certified mail because corporate will say 'they never got it'. Oh and if u have proof and go 2 the club good luck getting a manager to help u. They r always 'out'... & if u get one they'll tell u to re-send the cancellation form 7 pay back charges!

As for unfriendly phone service. Its done by min wage high schoolers who have 0 power to do anythin & the manager is always out and about so dont get upset at them... They cant do anything...

Plus the front desk main priority is being a call center hunting down people who havent paid/not helping the paying members who may need assistance.

Dont do it!

I couldn’t agree more with this statement. I had all the willingness to join the club but I found myself in front of a manager-want-to-be who thought he was smarted than me and deliberately, tried to question my ability to understand a simple business deal. So he didn’t get what he was epcet9ng and he ended-up being frustrated with the questions and challenges that I asked. What a sleek and flaw corporate and business attitudes. I just recommend to everyone who happens to stumbled into these messages to avoid by all means joining that club.

LA Fitness International la fitness — membership scam

I live in Elgin, IL. I recieved a flyer from LA Fitness in the mail to try their facility for 7 days for free. They had just opened 2 weeks ago in South Elgin so I was interested. There was no asterik or catch to it on the coupon. It just said, "other memberships MAY be presented". So I go in and the sales person SHAUN GREEN takes the coupon, asks me if i'm serious about joining, which yes, I was because I was interested in joining at a later date. So he then goes on to tell me that the pass is for 3 DAYS and that then I would be charged for the first month of membership and last month of membership and wouldn't have to pay registration fee. I told him I wasn't sure about that and that I would think about it. THen he offered me a tour of the gym. I thought, I'm already in here, might as well. After the tour he said, so do you want to give it a try? I'm thinkin I get to try for 3 days and if i don't cancel I get charged. So he takes me card and the next thing I know he's asking me to sign for 79.95. I said that is not what we discussed and told him to cancel it and he said, "well you might as well sign it because it's already gone through". WITHOUT MY SIGNATURE ON IT YET! He then said, "just come try a class and later if you don't like it, i'll cancel it for you" telling me i'd get a refund in 3-5 days. I leave, pissed and upset because I didn't have that amount in my account. I came back less than 5 mins later telling AnnMarie, the operating manager, to cancel it. She did. The next day, when the overdraft was on my account, my financial advisor as well as a friend of mine (who owns a gym) told me to demand reinbursement for the overdraft fee because it was their fault. I went in to the gym the next day and DOMINIC ORAIGARA told me i needed to speak with AnnMarie. I went in the day after that and AnnMarie told me it was Dominic that i was supposed to speak with. She tells us that the company never reimburses those kind of fees and there is nothing she can do at her level. So I call corporate. JAMES FOX, a customer service member, tells me he WILL NOT give me the district or regional manager's number and that they will contact me in 24 hrs. I asked to speak to James’ boss and he kept giving me the run around, saying, “he’s not available.” So I said, “James, I know you have a boss. I want them on the line. Now, please and thank you.” James says, “well I don’t know where he is” So I said, “well could you find them please?” and he said, “Well he’s not in the facility” So I said, “So you mean to tell me there is nowhere their above you.” He said, “no. but everyone is going to tell you the same thing I am telling you, that we don’t give those kind of refunds.” I was LIVID! He told me the regional manager would be in touch with me, his name is RENE SHARP. I waited in the gym for SEAN because AnnMarie said he was starting his shift soon. SEAN came in, and spoke down to me and tried to make it seem like he did nothing wrong, that I knew I was getting charged, and that he was trying to save me money. Yea. Right. I told him he never said anything about the 7 day pass and that how is it saving me money to make me pay 80 bucks for 3 days. He then tried to dismiss me by saying, "fine i'll give her her $25 fee out of my own pocket." But it's not just about the money. They are tricking people into memberships, telling one thing and doing another and he shouldn't have done it to me or be allowed to do that to someone else. So I called the customer service number again, told the woman to have a director call me ASAP. That was at 4 pm central time. Still no word. And they didn't call me after the initial complaint. It's been 4 days. They are not taking me seriously and trying to sweep the matter under the rug. And now I’m losing money that I couldn’t afford to lose- I just graduated from college without a job and am still transitioning, so this is really taking a toll on my finances.

I hate companies that are like that. They think they can just bully you around. There's absolutely no reason they couldn't cover your fees. My advise if you ever are unfortunate enough to encounter something like this again, go straight to the Better Business Bureau. File a report, be as detailed as possible, just like you were in your above statement, with names, times of phones call, and they will take it from there for you. You won't ever have to talk to them again. BBB will handle all correspondences. Companies HATE when the BBB gets involved!

I used to work for LA Fitness and trained under Rene Sharp, he is fair and believes in selling straight on the merits and amenities of the gym. There is of course, sales techniques and sports psychology used to sell these memberships but Rene is honest. That said, I cant speak this way about the other employees and managers of LA Fitness. There are plenty of scams and ### techniques used that always challenged my personal ethics. Stay the course in dealing with LA Fitness officers and I think you will get some results. I hope you hear from Rene, again he was an excellent trainer and is a stand up guy. I just happened to be looking for him to refer someone to him interested in sales when I cam across this. Good luck with your dilemma!

I'm so sorry you had to go through this! I used to work at the front desk at LA Fitness and I saw scams like this happen everyday which is why I quit because I think lying and tricking people is horrible. You were completely right about the pass - it's a FREE 3 day pass and all the sales guy should've done is presented you the memberships and then put a 3 day pass in on the computer. After your name and phone number is in the computer, he might call you a bunch seeing if you want to join, but he has no right to sell you a membership without your knowledge. My mom joined the one I worked at and I stood right behind the sales guy to make sure he didn't do anything sneaky. The sad thing is though, is that even the general managers (who are over the sales dept) do tricky things like that and deceive people. I've heard of plenty of sales counselors getting fired because they didn't sell enough memberships but I've never seen one get fired over lying or deceiving a customer. How backwards is that? If anyone reading this is thinking about joining LA, I recomment you go to another gym.

LA Fitness International kids klub

The Kids Klub at the Hunters Creek LA Fitness is a total nightmare. I will not take my kids there anymore. The first time I took my 3 year old there at 8AM and after my workout an hour later went down to pick her up, there were a dozen children including 4 babies all under the age of 3 and the lady that was suppose to be watching them was on her cellphone for 15 minutes with her back to the kids, while I stood in the room with her! I didn't want to leave cause she wasn't watching any of them and 2 of the babies were sitting on the floor in the middle of the big kids screaming! I went straight to the front desk and complained to a manager and he said he would address it.

Fast forward to the next time my husband goes and takes my 3 & 6 year olds...she never got out of her chair the entire time, cause of all the visitors she had coming to chat with her. He went and complained and again, it would be addressed.

Yesterday I was there, without my kids this time and I was working out right in front of the door and in the one hour I was there, her husband/boyfriend/whatever came in to visit with her 4 times, the cleaning lady came in 2 times chatting and then another lady chatted with her for 10 minutes and did not have a child to drop off. When I got home, I called them back and complained.

This morning I took just my 3 year at 8AM and there were no kids there, so I was like, okay, it's just the two of them (it isn't hard to watch ONE child)...as soon as I walk out of the room, the lady walks out behind me & heads to the front desk and leaves my daugter in the room alone! I turned around and got my daughter and left and took her to grandmas house. I came back and complained before working out and of course, it will be addressed. (YEAH RIGHT!)...then while I am working out the ladies husband came in several times to chat and the cleaning lady, too, all the while, her back was to the babies and toddlers in the room! Then while I am on the treadmill (you can look down right into the Kids Klub...I timed her 17 minute phone coversation! AGAIN!

I am so FURIOUS that ANY company would allow this to happen under their roof! They are suppose to be watching children...not animals! From now on, we are just coordinating with grandma to watch our kids while we are at the gym. I cannot workout and be a nervous wreck the entire time wondering if my daughter is in safe hands or not.

We are in Columbus, Ohio and I have so many complaints about the Kids Klub here. I'm so livid right now. And what's with allowing personal friends of employees be in the Kids Klub?!?! That's my main complaint, other than an employee being a jerk to a baby. I'm fed up. I wish I never joined this gym.

I work at a kids club in California and we do get some employees that don't care at all about the kids, I am the kids club supervisor and my staff is all very attentive to our kids at the gym, I feel so bad for you and your experience my advice is to check out the person working at the kids club before even signing up to that gym, 24 hour fitness has a kids club that has a ratio of 10 kids per employee and babies under 18 months count as 3 kids so we never get too many to watch.
You know at the gym those girls get paid minimum and ya, a lot of times they just work their to get a free gym membership. Be careful where you place your kids even just for an hour. -

LA Fitness International cancellation

I tried to cancel my LA Fitness membership in February and they said that the branch can't do it you have to go online and print and send the form. I did that, I did it again after having the same conversation in March and April. Now I am on to May and still going to download my 4th cancellation form. The manager said I can have them cancel it now becuse of everything but that I will have pay for the next 2 months because of the billing cycles and the advanced bill oh and they still want to pay for the April charges too that were reversed by mastercard when I filed a dispute. I complained and the nice man at the counter called me a c*^t. So I have a bill, a membership I don't want and can't cancel and no way out of it. I do not recommend LA fitness to anyone.

My 14 year old daughter and I joined LA Fitness last summer. We even signed up for the personal trainer. Because of my health problumes the trainer was afraid to have me do anything, so I cancelled the trainer. Everytime I went in they keeped a close eye on me and said if I use another location I needed to tell them so they counld call them so they could keep an eye on me. I didn't feel conferatable with them watching me every min that I was there, so I stoped going. a few months ago I tried to cancelle. I got the form for both of use and send it in with a note do not charge me anymore. They were able to charge me one more time and I did not say anything. Becasue of the washington / Chase change over my card has a timp freese on it and they can not charge my account. So they are now calleding me 2 to 3 times a day everyday. They are putting my health in more jepardy now. I am trying everything to stop the calls and stop the charges. I don't want to bring them to court, but will if I have to. I now know that I have a long battle on my hands. Is there anyone out there who can help me?

I am disputing charges made to my credit card for the period lasting from February 2010 through October 2010. Here is my story. I visited my local LA Fitness (Mound Rd Warren, MI 48092) on 2152010 to tour the facility thinking of joining. I was met by a male trainer named Gale who showed me around the facility. I was not ready to join this facility, I meerly wanted a tour to compare it to other local gyms in my area. However, after my tour, I sat down with Gale to discuss contract terms. Gale did convince me to leave a $60 deposit towards a membership at this facility. The charge was placed on my credit card on this date (2/15/10). After re-thinking my decision the next day I called to leave a message tfor Gale to cancel my membership because I was going to join a less expensive gym in the area. I was told by the person who answered the phone that they would relay this message to him when he arrived for his shift. I made a follow up call that same evening to Gale to verify that he received my request to cancel my membership and to be sure to cancel the charge on my credit card, Gale verified this with me over the phone. He assured my my account would be cancelled and my credit card not be charged.

Upon reviewing my credit card bills for October 2010, I noticed a charge from LA Fitness for membership dues of $34.99. This caused me to review all of my prior statements, to my surprise I was being charged a monthly fee of $34.99 each month starting in March 2010, as well as a charge for a $60.00 down payment in February. There is also an additional charge of $85.00 on my card for LA Fitness and I don’t know what caused this charge to appear. Also, the auto-billing process from the months of October and November caused us to go into an over-limit with our credit card company, therefore causing additional charges against myself. I did call LA Fitness Corporate and spoke with a young lady named Brooke, who did assist us in receiving a credit of $174.95. After reviewing all of the fees I was charged by LA Fitness, I paid a total of $533.60 (this includes 2 over limit charges of $143.69). This leaves a balance of $358.65 which is owed to me by LA Fitness.

I am very upset with my overall experience with my visit to LA Fitness. I was verbally told by your salesman that I would not be charged and that my account would be cancelled that day. The problem with your staff is that they refuse to take NO for an answer. I was never issued a membership card, nor have I ever enter your facility since 2/15/2010.

Cancellation is simple

1. Walk into your local LA Fitness and pick up the form, or go online, no questions asked, and mail it in 10 days prior to your next billing (why? So they have time to stop the auto eft) It's self addressed and ready to go

2. You'll receive an email within 5-7 days confirming its cancelled

3. Your done

i agree with all the complaints ive heard, im trying to get out of paying $1600 for 5 months of sessions im not going to use. when i signed up i was not informed properly of even the bacis of the contract, i had asked them if i could cancel any time they said and i quote, "yes and you can also freeze your account if anything happens and you can't afford it at that moment you wont be build for say up to six months and when you come back you can start again". they completely skiped my question and whent into something else. i never heard it would cost 50% of how many months you signed up for, and even if you don't want 50% of the sessions you have to pay for when you cancel "their there for you". we were miss imformed of this and now we are trying to get help to stop their awful customer service and shady bussiness habbits. how can they do this with us good people who are Manipulated into these things and not told anything.?

LA Fitness International general managr desrespect

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing this letter as a compliant against the General Manager, Thomas J. Colaiezzi of the Havertown, PA location.

On April 29, 2009 at about 5:40pm I was speaking to one of the representative about my account. The representative was very patient and professional, however he asked Thomas J. Colaiezzi for his assistance regarding my concerns. To my surprise and dismay Mr. Colaiezzi (GM) responded by say, “Make it quick because I have to go the 5:45pm spinning class”.

As a paying customer and a devoted gym member I think that his response was very rude and not to mention unprofessional. In customer service I was taught that customers come first, especially if they are not being rude and belligerent. I so happened to be in same spinning class that evening, at no point did he apologize for his behavior or try to rectify the problem I was having.

I spoke with at least three employees of LA Fitness and they confirm that Mr. Colaiezzi is very disrespectful to employees and members of African American descent. He was very playful accommodating in the spinning class with the Caucasian members.

In an economy where gym membership is a luxury and not a necessity I am surprise that a General Manager would be so blatantly disrespectful and unprofessional. I have come to the resolve that I will be canceling my member and seek a gym which is welcoming to members of all race and creed.

The main complain that I had was that LA Fitness charged my credit card because they could not get payment from another party that use to be on my account.

Six months ago they separated our account and was collect from the individual for months. However, after being unable to collect from him they resorted to charging my account.

For any further questions feel free to contact me at my email address.

Yours truly,

Debra

The only reason they would charge you for another person is if you signed to have them added onto your credit or debit account and consented. If the person changes their billing you are still responsible as default. Make it simple, don't do a "family add on" if you can't foot the bill, make them get their own account. Simple. As far as racism don't judge the company by one bad person, call corporate and he will be fired immediately

LA Fitness International cancelation

I signed up for LA Fitness years ago, I used the gym a lot. I loved it, but as the economy was getting bad and lost my job from lay-offs. Also moved in to Trillium Apt which has a excellent gym for there residence. I went online to cancel my membership, and on the LA Fitness website states please fill out cancelation form and send to corporate office and in 30 days membership will be canceled. I did have to pay one more month, so I did this. I thought everything went alright, but that next mont I was billed again for $25. I filled out another cancelation form and sent it to LA Fitness, a month later I checked my credit card statement again and yet again $25 was taken out. At this time I am getting frustrated I than printed off another copy of the cancelation for and sent it in, you can only guess what happened next. I recived a letter from LA Fitness stateing that they tried to bill my card and it would not go thru. I called American Express and told them I wanted to dispute this. I let them know that I have sent in 2 cancelation forms and nothing has been done. they went and disputed it for me. I then sent in another form, yet again I recived another letter that next month stateing they have tried to bill my card again that they are sending me to collections. I went in to the PV club very upset, I talked to the manager and explaind what has been happening. he stated that I have been doing this correct. I asked him to send in the cancelation form thru the clubs mail so I knew they would cancel membership. he sated he could not do this. That I would have to cend thru USPS. so I took my chances again $100 later. the next month I had another payment taken out of my credit card $25 ( that makes $125). I than got a call from LA Fitness stating that I am past due. I explained everthing I did, and they said I need to send in Certified mail, I said nowhere did it say that and the club manager did not tell me this. I stated that this is just a way to keep getting money. they said that they never recived the forms. I told them that I canceled the membership and I want them to cancel it over the phone. they stated could not be done and that I am being sent to collections. By this time I am pissed. I advised the to do this and I will take it from there. next month another $25 was taken from my account. and I disputed w/ my credit card company was credited back $125, I won the dispute. I get another call from LA Fitness and same conversation again. but by this time I am yelling, the rep tells me that I have to do 3 steps to cancel. I info her I did everything that was told to me. that I am Thru jumping thru hoops. she stated she would send info from her side to cancel. It took me 7 months to cancel my membership. I sent in 4 cancelation froms, talked to a manager. and two reps from LA Fitness. Finally my membership was canceled. This is why people are so afraid to join gyms, even though they state they have no contracts, it still takes an act of god to cancel.
my brother went thru a similar situation with Golds Gym and Ballies.

LA Fitness makes it impossible to cancel their membership. I contacted them months ago to try to cancel their cancel anytime membership. In order to cancel online you must sign up for an online account. They make you sign in to your account at sign up. If you go with them save your sign in information. It is a nightmare to get through to them to get your information. This is a planned by the company so that you will have other things to do and forget about your 30.00 a month. It worked on me. It was such a problem that I did forget. They have their cancellation form on line but for some planned reason you can not open the file. I disputed it with my bank and ultimately they continued to charge my card. Four months later I went through the steps again and once again you can not download their cancellation form. Finally I went to their building where they try to talk you out of leaving but ultimately they gave me a cancellation form which you have to send in by regular mail. They also tell you that they need to receive it ten business days in advance to stop from charging you again on their next billing cycle. If they put as much time into customer service as they do into making sure you cant cancel they be a much better company.

3. Your done

LA Fitness International unhealthy, at best!!!

The place is a dump. It smells bad and it is extremely crowded during peak times. The ladie's restrooms, showers and locker rooms are unhealthy, at best: sanitary napkins in the showers, hair stuck to the ceramic walls, paper towels all over the floor, dirty carpets, and a puddle of water between the showers and the locker room almost made me fall and break my neck. The manager says the facilities are cleaned only at the end of the day because the janitor is male and can't get into the ladies' locker room... Tried to complain to headquarters but gave up waiting on line, they don't have an 800 number and my long distance call was getting too expensive. No place for complaints on their web page, either... The telephone option for Spanish doesn't work, either...

LA FITNESS [protected] press 0 for operator. As far as cleanliness, if you let staff know of something dirty it is procedure to clean it up immediately. They have scheduled janitorial on hand all open hours and if there is a mess in between let them know. Also, LA Fitness website has alot of contact info. visit www.lafitness.com

LA Fitness International unprofessional behavior

I recently went to the La fitness in tradition to inquire about a membership there. All my friends go there and I understood that was the best and most fully equipped gym in Port st lucie. I was greeted at the front desk by the GM. His name was Nick. From there my visit went downhill. He asked me my name and after i told him he then asked if I would be joining "his" gym today. I told him I would like to know what they had to offer and was told that a gym was a gym, we have it all, so dont waste my time with stupid questions about the gym. I was then told that i came to the gym for a reason, and that reason was to lose weight, not look for a cheap price. I was appalled by the way the man in the "too, too"tight shirt was treating me. He was wearing shorts, dirty t-shirt and a surf hat, and he told me I needed to lose weight! All in the first 2 minutes of meeting him. I told him I was not interested in losing weight per se, but my overall fitness was the concern, A stupid smile came over his face as he tried to stifle his "laugh"about my weight comment. How humiliating! I turned round and started to leave as he said "you want the cheapest price, go to golds gym" I cried all the way home. Needless to say, I wont be joining that gym if they employ rude trainers like that.

Wow! I have had a similar experience with this gym. I would never join this gym. I went to a smaller gym in Port St Lucie, FIt Image Fitness over on US.1 north of Prima Vista. where they offer Zumba, free weights, and a bunch of cardio equipment. My opinion is that people should start joing smaller, more personable fitness center. Better quality.

LA Fitness International unauthorized charges

I signed up for LA Fitness in Downey, California and the salesperson never disclosed to me the cancellation process and the '20 day' processing time it takes to cancel. The credit card they had on file was canceled so they charged me 29.99 plus 5.00 because the could not bill the card. In order to cancel I had to physically go and get a cancellation form with a bar code and request cancellation in writing. The girl at the Hemet location said once I paid the 29.99 plus the 5.00 fee it would be canceled.

I gave her a new credit card number for the sole purpose of paying this charge because they said if I didn't pay I would continue to get billed. The girl said this would be the last charge. A week later LA Fitness charged my card $29.99 again. I never authorized my card to be used for future charges. I consider this a fradulent charge. When I called the Hemet location the girl I spoke to said that it takes 20 days for cancellation to process. What a rip off.

I worked next door to their temporary sales office before the Lacey L A Fitness (close by) was built. Lots of their sales folks were always telling me to join now (early - before it's even built) to save and you can cancel anytime you want before it opens. I finally gave in and paid a membership fee and gave them my Visa # to charge my monthly dues to once the fitness center opened and I started using it.

They said my membership fee would be refunded in full and my credit card wouldn't even be charged if I wanted to cancel before it opened. Well, our company ended up moving away before the club opened. The sales folks knew that I only joined because it was gonna be so close to my work, but when I found out my company was moving and wanted to cancel, no one there knew how to take care of it, so they said to come in when their boss was there (Brad) and he could do it. He wasn't there a lot, but I knew who he was.

Brad and I spoke about it a lot and he said he'd have to find out more about it. He said his sales people shouldn't have told me that but he'd see what he could do. I went to their website too to cancel, so I thought it was done. Then, when charges started showing up on my Visa, (my company had moved by then) I called him and was told he'd take care of it.

Then the next month, more charges and no credits. I called again, but this time the new club had opened and I got an employee there and explained my dilemma. He said he'd have Brad call me. Sometime later that week he called me and was really really sorry, but said he'd get to the bottom of it. This went on a few more times and I got busy with other things.

I just noticed recently that LA Fitness is still charging dues to my credit card! From looking at [redacted], they are pretty good at this and it is a common theme in most every report! When is someone going to do something about these people? Am I going to have to call them every month for the rest of my life? Somebody please help here! This is ridiculous and I and several others want their money back! What should I do? Thanks!

I canceled out my club membership and my debit card is continuing to be charged for services I no longer receive. The accounts were frozen and canceled in March, I have not visited the club since then. I was charged for training and club membership freeze. Now in October I was charged $85.37 from my debit card. I visited the club and was told my account is active, but frozen for membership, open for training. I would like to cancel my membership and my money refunded for October 2008. Please help me to not be charged anymore money from my bank account.

I agree with all of the complaints listed about LA Fitness Training and Unauthrized Charges.
I had entered a training contract for a year. I was approached in Mid Sept about a " special promotion" . This particular promotion would reduce my training cost from 524/month to 398/month. The training manager, called me at 930 pm. I informed him that although it was a good deal and I would come to the gym and review the contract during more routine business hours. Anyway I went to the gym 5 days later and reviewed the contract which was in writing ( because the computers were down) it would reduce my cost to $ 398 per month for 6 months. I asked what would happen to my current contract. He stated that my current account would be "frozen" and he validated in writing, that origination fees, etc were wavied given " I was a good customer" ...
Anyway, I showed up for training and I was told I had no training sessions left. I was told it would have to be a manual sign in etc. ( little did I know they were going to charge me individually for my training sessions) I talked to the " Training manager" he stated it was just protocol while my " new promotion " took over...Well due to business I was out of town for 2 months and had not reviewed my Credit card statement...( yeah my fault)... However, the credit card company called and asked my why had the charges from LA fitness increased? I did not know what the risk consultant was talking about...Anyway LA fitness was charging me for both contracts, no freeze had taken place. Although I had requested a copy of the new contract the day I signed it ( I was told the computers are down, and the copier was conviently broken...I tried after that but got several excuses.. etc...) I am now being charged 1050 dollars a month for the past three months...More over all of those manuel sign in they charged me individually...I tried to talk with the manager of training and he stated from their perspective all of the charges were correct and my cc company had made a mistake... Moreover, he refused to give me an itemized billing statement, a copy of my contracts on file or even documentation of the freezing... I have never been so poorly treated...I am so upset with myself...I did manage to get a copy of the 2nd contract from the front desk clerk who works mornings...( she did not know me) Get this the contract on file is for 11 months not 6 months and there is a signature on this contract thats not even mine. The origination date is 9/23 and I did not even sign the contract until 9/28. This is fraud. I feel apprehensive about even going into the gym. I am filing a complaint with the State Attorney's office for fraud. I have read many complaints and my question is why haven't a class action law suit been filed against LA fitness?

LA Fitness International fraud and inappropriate behavior

The LA Fitness Pro Results Training Programat Universal City has a bad habit of charging clients for appointments that were never made. They claim they can't keep track of appointments properly on their computers. They claim that their trainers don't update their schedules. They proceed to book you for a training appointment and then charge you whether the trainer shows up or not.The trainer will use the excuse that he or she had "no one scheduled at that time when you were scheduled, that someone must have erased it."

If you have scheduled a half hour workout and you were late, your trainer may be gone! They leave 10 or 15 minutes past the 1/2 hour even if you call them and make them aware you're running late, and charge you for the time even if they left you stranded. They often take off without notice and while you make your way to the gym, you may just be stood up.The trainers come and go as they please. They don't get reprimanded for doing anything to their clients that is inappropriate. The managemnet seems to be more annoyed with the clients for complaining than with the trainers for not following through and being responsible and then charging you.

It is the worst program I have ever taken part in with physical training. The schedule-keeping is a disaster. But the worst of it is the training staff itself. They often talk to other people while they work with you. They often talk about their personal problems as they work with you. They don't have anything but an internet- trainers-certificate, who knows from where. Some of them try to sell you drugs and some try to come on to you. Some think it's their place to put you down, criticize you or to make inappropriate sexual comments while they are working with you. This is the absolute worst training staff I have ever witnessed!

Try a different gym if what you want is a decent responsible trainer that will help you reach your fitness goals! This group could care less if you get your sessions or if you get a good workout. They only care about their paychecks and clearly they don't get paid enough because they complain about their jobs constantly. It is a terrible situation and unlikely you will get anything positive accomplished.

The gym itself is fine. The training program is a scam.

One of the best defences that I have found, with regards to documenting drug abuse and harrassment at LA Fitness, is to bring in a micro web cam! Works great and it gets all the audio and video! It also picks up cops who use and deal drugs in Gresham, Oregon.

LA Fitness International confessions of a former la fitness employee

Former LA Fitness Employee:

After reading the numerous complaints on this board I feel the need to coroborate many of the issues facing LA Fitness. I want to first ofer my "inside" details of how LA Fitness operates its business. Let's begin with mangement or the lack of.

LA Fitness does not offer any formal training nor does it provide continuing education in the crucial area of managing personnel. LA Fitness also uses a very narrow metric for promotion within its manager ranks. This simple metric used is “sales” if you’re a great salesman you get promoted. That is it! Also, LA Fitness draws heavily from an employment pool lacking in maturity. Many of their "GM's" are simply children doing the work an adult should be doing. But paying adults appropriately would cut into Mr Welch building his new mutli million dollar house in Malibu California. Yep, its the truth folks. Same Wall Street menatality at LA Fitness.

As a customer, please don't put your health or your money in the hands of people who do not care about you after you've provided them a credit/debit card or check. Not to mention many of the people selling memebrships or personal training are not properly trained or educated to give anyone advice related to health and fitness. Also, these "agreements" that management likes to call are "contracts" don't be duped into their snake oil salesman type selling. Once you've swiped your card you're pretty much history regarding any value added customer service.

Another issue facing LA Fitness is their high turnover. I'm sure many of you have seen this at the clubs you frequent. How many times have you had a differnet trainer over the course of several months? If you're the average LA Fitness customer odds are you are likely to have 3-5 trainers during the course of your "contract." Why is this? Simply put, LA Fitness doesn't give two red cents about its employees. That coupled with there "creative" ways they have employees "punch in" for compensation has always been a source of confussion for its employees. Just ask an employee to explain it you. They're always looking for a way to screw their employees to save a few cents while their poor cusotmer service issue is left like a festering sore. Another tid bit worth mentioning, LA Fitness management would prefer the trainer not to call his/her clients if they are out sick. Why? Because some district manager gets a nice cut from the number of people who have walked through the door. Disgusting, isn't it?!?! So, they would rather a scheduled client come through the door angry than to have been notified by the trainer.

All things considered, I could not, would not recommend LA Fitness as a place for employment. Nor could I recommend it as a service to purchase. And all the previous complaints I've read are true. The stories I have heard and witneesed are dispicable on all levels of business. And to Mr Welch of LA Fitness, I hope the home you're building is close to a cliff! You F N SOB!

Since there are so many former LA Fitness Personal trainers here, perhaps someone knows the answer to this question. Can I be excluded from the Personal Training Area? I saw they had some TRX equipment in that area and I went over to use it. A trainer was in the area with a client but I was not interfering with their training. He told me I had to leave. On the website it says that TRX equipment is located in the Functional Training Area which is available to all members.

I like the LA FITNESS GYM. I joined last year 2017 and joined the facility in Waldorf, Md. The gym itself is nice, and I like the classes such as spin cycle, Zumba and power circuit and Aqua Fit. I also like the fact that it is month to month and I am not locked into a long contract. However, if you JOIN LA Fitness do not sign up for a fitness assessment. That is just a ploy by the sales department to get you to sign up for personal training and that locks you into a contract. That is how they got me. I signed up because I wanted to go to the next level in my fitness and wanted to make sure that when I lift weights I am doing the correct form and plus I thought getting a trainer would help me lower my body fat consumption faster and tone up and help me reach my goals faster. However, this past 10 months, of personal training has been a total waste of my damn time and $. I signed up for 12 months worth of sessions because it was cheaper. however, you are locked into a year and if you are not satisfied and cancel you have to pay out the difference of what you owe which I am not trying to do. The trainer they set me up with was slack, lazy and all he has done is put me on cardio equipment and I told him several times that I do not want to waste 25 minutes of my season doing cardio because I do Zumba, Aqua Fit and other cardio several days a week and during my sessions on want to focus more on strength training and weight lifting but he continued to put me on cardio equipment so I fired him and asked the sales manager for another trainer. I hope this trainer will be better. I only have sessions left until May so I am going to ride them out but once my sessions run out and my contract is up I will never use a trainer there again. The trainers are a bunch of inexperience trainers who just got certified and have never worked at any other gym before. Some are even trainee's and don't have a cert and from what I understand any [censor] can pass the certification test and not be a trainer. They have Master Trainers who are considered expert but they cost a fortune depending on how often you meet with them and they are hard to get. LA Fitness itself is nice and they have a nice sauna, whirlpool and offer Aqua fit classes but the personal training sucks and is a waste of time and I could have gotten better results training on my own. I recently started training with trainers at the company building I work at. the training is free as a company perk and I have to say that LA Fitness trainers have nothing on the trainers at the building I work at. They are much more attentive, they are organize and really work with you on your form. and they are free. If I had known this I would have never wasted my damn $ on these piss poor trainers at LA Fitness. La FITNESS management, if you are on this forum you really need to make sure the trainers you hire are experience and not just have a certification. Also, you need to school them on being professional. the guy I had was so unprofessional that half the time he was testing on his cell phone while I was working out and not watching my form at all and sticking me on cardio machines so he can play with his phone. What a waste of time.

As a former employee of L.A. Fitness at two different facilities in Maryland, I can honestly convey the failed leadership of this company. Both L.A. Fitness gyms were operated under very poor management and unacceptable conditions. Further, the unsanitary conditions in the restrooms, group fitness rooms and main floor were embarrassing. Communication from the group fitness director was very inconsistent and poor. Certain instructors were creating a juvenile hostile environment behind the scenes, joking about it, and creating controversy where none existed. Whereas other instructors maintained professionalism at all times. As such, a few of our best group fitness instructors resigned due to the ongoing egregious issues surrounding. I personally witnessed many members complain about the lack of cleanliness in the restrooms with the GM, only to be ignored and not addressed by the GM at that time. Equipment in group fitness classes used and damaged by other employees who did not have authorization to use the equipment, yet the damage was blamed on instructors who weren't even present in the gym that day. Moreover, when a few of us offered to address these ongoing issues with corporate, we were shunned and disregarded. We even offered to organized a meeting with a power point presentation to highlight why both gyms consistently received a 1 star rating out of 5. But again, corporate disregarded our offer to fly out and meet with these so called suits. L.A. Fitness leaves behind a strong evidence-based record of failed leadership and demonstrates their focus on membership numbers only regardless of countless complaints by members and employees. Myself and a few others who resigned from this company are surprised there aren't more lawsuits pending against L.A. Fitness. Shame on this corporation for bad faith conduct and not honoring their own rules and procedures.

LA Fitness has the rudest most arrogant managers ever. I had never worked in the Corporate environment before, 20 years in the fire service. I became a spin instructor and enjoyed being able to help the members that were so often let down by instructors either not showing up, fired or just sick of LA fitness bull####. They pay $12 for a spin class? Then they wonder why nobody stays, Actually I correct myself, they don't wonder because they don't care. I wish for 2017 they finally go out of business!

You are writing in fear of losing your job. Just google LA Fitness in the realm of gyms. My wife is a fitness and wellness director in the private sector country club environment. She states that LA has the worst reputation in the industry. They've had so many lawsuits it's not even funny. The credit card that was on file for my membership had expired. When contacted concerning the expiration, I informed the man on the phone that I also wanted to cancel my membership. He said, "no problem, lets get this card number to cover the last months dues and then I will go ahead and cancel. I received an e-mail stating that my membership was up to date, so I contacted him and he said, "don't worry about that, it is all taken care of for you." Needless to say he lied and I kept getting charged. I contacted my local gym and the girl told me she would take care of it and put in a request to return the charges. Of course that wasn't true either. No matter what anybody tells you, make sure any mailing are certified and you get names and documentation for everything. I will never recommend LA Fitness to anybody, based solely on their business practices.

While attending L.A. Fitness in Burnsville, MN, I was sucked into the personal training by being tricked into signing a contract that I wasn't offered to read. It was a high pressure gimmick, but I accepted my bad luck and tried to make the best of it. I then began receiving awful training sessions, but was told that there was nothing that could be done for me. I was 'given' the option of freezing my account (of where I was still charged a fee) but poor quality staff did not document such freezing and money was continuously taken out of my account. When confronted, they would not even refund the money that was taken from me and would not help me with my complaint. AVOID THIS COMPANY and you will not lose your money or become taken advantage of! The well being of the customer is not of concern, but only money and upholding pointless contracts!

This place is like Hotel California.

"You can check in anytime you like, but you can never leave"...I cancelled my membership in 2006 at least I thought so until they told me thay had been garnishing my wifes bank account for years without us know it. Now conveniently there's no proof that they got any cancellation and we are out the money...Dont worry LA Fitness you'll get whats coming to you...if this business is still open by the end of the year, then I'll have no faith left in humanity...I vow to fight LA Fitness until I die.

Take care! LA fitness offer cash back after 3 months of regular acceptance for you get in there. It is not true; they do not give that and happened with other friends as well. Direct Debit account: do not allow that! Even when you are no longer part of the gym, they keep debiting your account and think it was just by chance, but they are not willing to refund you soon. So, you get a big, very big headache.

Honestly, I do not recommend this company; they do not follow what they offered to get you involved.
