'White Van Scam' today my husband was waved down by a pair of white men that wanted to show him some speakers they wanted to sell. They were in a black 4runner with Florida License plates. They were next to him waiting for traffic light and waved him down. Thinking it was a good deal they stopped at a parking lot and talked about selling this to my husband.
They said they had to sell it because they had made a mistake and had an extra system to sell or else the 'boss would keep it'.
It retailed for around 2,500 they said and they even had a stereo magazine with the picture and price. With an invoice! The website http://www.kirschloudspeakers.com .Thing is that my husband called me from the mans cell phone to let me know about the 'deal' we agreed it was ok. His information came out on my caller ID.
When he got home he told me all about it. He just had this gut feeling. Well after hours I searched the brand of the speakers online and came upon the 'White Van Scam'. Seems like this has been going on for a while but I guess it hasn't been out in the public as far as TV. I haven't seen any news channels warning the public about it. I've see the check scams and such. I found out it was a number in Austin , TX the name of the man came out to be Rob Cunningham.
I was going to call this fool to ask for our money back. I am pissed. My husband then called him and said I want my money back. He said who do you want to talk to, this is a company phone and different people use the phone he said call back tomorrow and we'll see who sold it to you yesterday. My husband then said it wasn't sold yesterday it was sold this afternoon. And the guy didn't say anything.He said all I want is my money back I know this is a scam! I just want my money you get your 'product' back! He said well call back tomorrow. My husband said I want my money dude or else I will report you to the police. He said well if you're going to report me don't call me back! He hung up the phone. My husband called back and the 'Rob' didn't answer the phone.
My husband left a message and said All I want is my money and remember I have your name and number and I know that this number is from Austin. My husband is going to call tomorrow again. They shouldn't get away with this anymore! This needs to stop! I will file a police report this guy convinced my husband to go to the bank granted it was a 'deal' but still a rip off, a scam! I told my husband to mention to him that he needs to give us back the money he paid and he'll get his pos back.
My husband also said that he was stuttering after my husband told him that he knows his name and has his number and knows his license plate. I hope he calls us back or else we will put out a police report. I am sure that there are people in the Houston and surrounding areas that are going to get scammed.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
My husband just bought a pair of the tower speakers someone was selling on Craigslist. Too be honest, we have now compared them to 3 different brands, including pioneer. The pioneer sounded better, but the Kirsch ones were surprisingly not bad at all. They have pretty good depth and sound quality, and bass. I was very skeptical knowing they were white van speakers and expected them to suck, but they really didn't. We are keeping them. 💯
Also, if they came out in the early 2000s, they have been passed around and are still working just fine. 🤦♀️
Bought a set, Humble Texas. Paid 150 dollars. Was not expecting anything fancy or spectacular, They looked great, Hooked them up and to my surprise played great and sound great. My daughter has had them for 5 years and they still play and she has 0 complaints.
Seriously people, I have seen worse speakers at Kmart, Big Lots, CVS, Wally World etc... that have a price tag of 100 dollars and last 100 days.
I have an Onkyo 929 and I have Kirsch speakers for my zone 3 and they serve my need for sound in another area of my home with 0 complaints. I am not rich but to tell you the truth, if they go out so what they did their job but if you are a audiophile you know what you are getting into and that is why they prey on people who do not know. If you bought these speakers give them to a kid in college or high school if not your own, they will appreciate it. Donate them to an organization so at least you can have a feeling of satisfaction instead of wasting time complaining becasue you feel like you were scammed. Lastly plug in and enjoy!

Happens in Houston as while they usually are in SUV's! Walmart Lowes Home Depot! Sad people do this!
Wow, For once my ex husband actually was telling the truth! He told me that he purchased the Kirsh speakers from some duys in a van from Atlanta, who had them because a customer had put down a deposit and could'nt afford them at their retail price of $5000.00. I really thought he had purchased them at Best Bay and didn't want me to know how much he had spent. But they do sound great and have been working for 4 years. Really wonder how much he paid though.
Look guy's, Everyone is complaining about these " van scams" and ### about getting ripped off! But have any one of you hooked these things up to a good amp? Try a Yamaha 1000 watt'er & see if you think you got ripped off ! They will rip your ear's off ! Crystal clear, and can handle anything you can pump in to them. Hook them up with a Polk Audio subwoofer, and then tell me they are not worth $150 bucks. Just because they don't cost $3500 like the guys in the vans say they are worth, doesn't mean they arn't well worth the money!
Man this has happened to me in San Diego, CA in 2007. I was approached by two men ( 1 white guy and 1 black guy) and they caught me right when i was leaving the navy federal ATM in mission valley. They told me they had just installed sourround sound systems in a couple apartments across the street and that they had a couple extras left over they were trying to get rid of because their boss would just give them away. They tried to get me for $900, showed me the magazine on how much the original price was and even gave me a phone number where i cud reach them. Everything seemed legit, the box was brand new and they had 3 other boxes in there truck so i honestly thought i was gettin a good deal so i paid 350 for it i believe, but i still had a gut feeling something wasnt right. I ended up moving to florida and couldnt take the system with me so i left it with my pops and he left it in the box till i came back which was in the summer of 09. I tried to set it up, and out of the 6 outputs for the speakers to connect to, only 3 work. After 2yrs of having this system i wud have never thought this was a scam. Something should be done about this.
bought the speakers wrote down the guys plates reported him to the cops the cops gave me their business address five of my buddies went down there got my money back plus $100. :)
i also happened to be in the same situation, but the guy selling me the product wasn't that convincing i guess, well, he tried everything but i had a feeling that something was wrong i wasn't feeling safe about the sale. plus the guy saw my huge hand-held device in my hand and he started to freak out. "excuse me, what's that you're holding in your hands?, what is it for?" he seemed so worried. then i took the decision to leave and not even try to negotiate the price, i honestly wasn't sure if it was a scam, or else i would have called the cops on him.

I definitely got it the worst. I bought these speakers from a pair of white men in a white van outside of a Best Buy in Newnan, GA a few days after my high school graduation. So with my new sports car and graduation money, these guys come pulling up. They started me at $1, 000 bucks which I thought was ridiculous. But after looking through the magazine and drooling over big speakers, I told them I had $500 to blow on them. I surprisingly still own them and have used them regularly since buying them. They aren't terrible speakers, but I was lied to about them by the salesmen. If anyone knows about this "scam" getting busted and people getting reinbursed, let me know! I'd much rather have my $500 back.
They were in Ohio also. My husband and I have been approached by this white van with these speakers 2 different times. This is a shame this needs to be dealt with and I better not see them again! ( My husband says they were caught at Lowe's ). But maybe it's more than two guys...or they got out and still have not learned their lesson!
I was approached in Breckenridge CO, about 2 years ago. As most people know this is a major tourist location so I don't really know how they decided to go here, but I got the set that i have for 50 bucks cause the dudes selling them were [censored]es. When i found out they worked for that cheap i was stoked. My dad was approached the next day and told me about it, but he didn't actually get anything from them. These guys are easily swayed if you know how to play the game. 50 bucks! The only thing is, after about 6 months of use, two of the speakers have gone out for no reason. Taken apart and put back together again, wires replaced and everything. Nothing will recover the two. I kinda would like to find out who the leader of whatever group this is just to see what he's like. There are worse scams out there...
i dont get how this is a scam?.. a scam is if a guy sold u a box of speakers and all was in there was bubble wrap.. u guys got speakers .. and i bet you use um too.. these speakers retail for $260 well thats was the guys in the van pay for them.. who knows what there boss gets um for.. in the morning the guy running this thing gives each van 6or7 sets of speakes to sell.. they can sell them for however much they want.. BUT.. the boss will take $260 for each set sold.. so if you bought um for $300.. the guys n the van only made $40.. They are just salesmen... they have permits in there vans to sell.. or this would be illegal.. idk.. but i like the speakers.. they work fine for me.. sum guy got me for $360 for a surround sound system about a year back.. but i found out how they were doing it... then i started to work for um LOL... i was pissed when i found out they were really only $260 but i made my money back.. only worked for them for about a month.. BUT man i made some money on the weekends.. oh and btw thoes magazines are fake.. the guy who owns the company makes um... id rather give these guys money that bestbuy or circuit city who mark there ### up... then u gotta pay tax.. at cost.. bestbuy or CC will buy a sound system for $150 then sell it 2 u for $500 ### that..
I felled for the same Scam about 2 years ago in Los Angeles, CA. I was driving and was waved down a guy in a Van. It was not white but brown. He showed me the magazine and I looked up the website to see if it was legitimate. I bought the Kirsch K10 valued at $ 3100 for something less than $500. Everything looked so real but I had this gut feeling that something was not right. I need to listen to my gut in the future.
I was not able to get my money back after calling back. So after two years, I still have this system unopened in my garaged. I opened it once to see if it works, and to my surprise, it does. But it does not have any other features but the radio and it serves as an output (headphones) for any external system. It does not have an internal DVD player or anything. Very Cheap.
I already counted my loss. a fool I was...

HOly Crap! This happend to me too! i was leaving the bank and there was a gray van and this dude really wanted me to buy some speakers.Then i insisted i didn't want them he asked for 500 im like nope..he got desprete and just put the Speakers in my car..im like ok i'll take them i guess...and then he just told me if there really anything i can give him for them, I told him all i'll give is 100 bucks and i Did. I haven't even tested them to see if they work or not..but yea your story sound just like the one experienced..the whole boss will take them from me thing..whatever i guess..im From California so i guess it's happening in other places as well.
Wouldn't ya know it I fell for the same sort of scam! A group of three guys driving a black Lincoln navigator, claiming they were from Denver doing work in Grand Lake, waved me down off the road to tell me about this amazing deal. They said because some guy messed up in the warehouse and gave the an extra box of speakers. The sweetened the deal by saying if they were to take it back to the warehouse their boss would keep it so they just wanted to sell it. Well I had a feeling that this was a real strange situation so I showed them all I had was $300 and I reluctantly took the speaker home. Come to find out this type of scam 'guys in white vans' etc. has been going on for quite some time. Every thing aside as a buyer one must be all too sceptical about what you buy and from who.
I was working in havelock nc today and 2 guys drove up in a white van with the same scam. I dont know why this has not been reported yet. I gues a good deal is really to good to be true. This town is in north carolina. I hope that people will find out about this scam so it want happen to them
They are doing it here in AZ. They are driving a black Lincoln Navigator, with chrome rims. Lic. # 400 HYD. They were in a parking lot in Gilbert on Cooper and Baseline.

When he got home my husband told his cousin all about it. He said he knew about the scam, it was a very very cheap product that they go around getting people to buy.Apparently they get paid for the day about50 bucks and if they sell the product for certain prices they get so much more. Well after hours I searched the brand of the speakers online and came upon the 'White Van Scam'.
