My 5 year old went to Mount Dora School of Ballet all year long and made all the rehearsals for the recital except 1 due to a school fundraiser event. When we showed up for the recital, we were told to leave because we missed 1 rehearsal. This rule was not communicated to us when we discussed it with the director of the school, Kathryn Wheeler, otherwise we would have saved my little one the embarrassment and the heartache. We lost the fees we paid for the recital and the seat tickets we bought and all years hard work of going there. Parents be aware.

Mount Dora School of Ballet performs a full length ballet each spring. Parents are notified in writing of rehearsal policies and performance dates in the fall. Dress Rehearsal is mandatory because it is run with full set changes, use of props, backdrop changes, entrances and exits, music synchronization, and with other dancers who may be in the scene. If a dancer is not in attendance, changes must be made to alleviate confusion for the dancers who are in attendance. It cannot be changed back as the performance is the next day. Mrs. Vukel was not only informed throughout the year that Dress Rehearsal was mandatory but also in a conversation witnessed by many teachers and parents the day before Dress Rehearsal. Despite the fact that the rules were frequently announced and clear, the parent chose for her children to attend a talent show instead of Dress Rehearsal. It is a parental decision to choose to disregard the hard work and performance of all the dancers, theatre safety concerns, and have their daughters miss the performance. And as she should, the parent took the costumes that she paid for.
