I have had it with this store! On more than 1 occasion I havve shopped there to find the service is lacking, the people are rude and to beat all, they follow you around and try to sell you more crap! (Do these people work on commision or something?) the last time I was there, I had a problem because they did not want to give me a sale price on something that was obviously on sale or someone put a sign in the wrong place. The sale sign said 40% off and when I got to the register, the cashier said it wasn't ringing up on sale, so she called and had someone check it and they said it wasn't on sale but there was a sign there that said it was. They said I couldn't have the sale price, so I asked to speak with their manager, apparently, he is not aware of good retail practices, because he was already peffed up and huffy as he walked up to our register. (Which it took him around 5 mins to arrive at) when he came up he not only was rude, but a liar (Unless they changed their policy and I am not aware) he said that she was just doing her job and that it was store policy. I told him that this has happened to me before in here (Their signs are always wrong) and they gave me the sale price and he raised his voice again and told me "well, maam, you won't get it now." he was very rude and not likeable in the least bit. I will order online crafts (Not from joann) and never step a foot in that store again, nor most of the ladies from my guild that I have spoken to about it. I have been to many joann's around the country, and it seems to be their policy to hire rude, crude and immiture managers and employees. Maybe the companie is run by daycare children...

I would encourage Jo-Ann Fabrics to phase out plastic packaging and use bio-degradable bags for purchased items. It makes good sense for our compromised environment.

Additionally, I would consider working with vendors to use environmentally sound packaging.

Having worked in a Joann Fabrics, and also being fired from said store for following good retail practices (ie: if a sign is up and in the wrong place, or if a sign is in the right place and the item is included in the sale and still not coming up on sale, changing the price to the sale price; basically, taking care of customers), I can honestly say that my managers were similar to what you described. When I was let go, I was accused of "deceiving the company by taking care of customers".

I would frequently run from the front of the store to the back to help customers, because other employees did not want to work, and would rather venture into the fabric section, pretend to fix bolts of fabric, and text message their friends, or get on facebook on their phones. Yet, when a customer was at the register, I was supposed to stop helping those customers and run back to the front to check people out.

If I was at the register, and no one was waiting to get checked out, I was expected to stock stuff close to the registers, or go to the cutting counter to cut fabric; however, once a customer went to the registers, I was supposed to excuse myself from the customer I was cutting fabric for, and go to the registers to check out that customer.

Many of the employees in that store are relatives of management or relatives of their personal friends. When people complain about those employees, management doesn't even sit down with those employees to discuss the complaint. Management doesn't even take action.

I have not set foot into any of their stores since my dismissal from employment. I do not agree with the way they handle customers. I warn everyone I talk to that mentions wanting to go in to Joann Fabrics to get something, to just go to Hobby Lobby or Art Mart, because they will get better customer service at one of those stores.

I have shopped in Joann Fabric stores in a number of different states. I have found most of their staff to be knowledgeable and friendly. Every one makes mistakes and people have bad days. Sounds like the author was having a major bad day - went in with bad attitude and the staff rected to her crappy demeanor.

I have shopped in JoAnn stores for years. My comment in regards to signage in stores, and all stores we shop in, is that the consumer
lacks the SKILL to READ the sign properly.
In a given situation where there are mixed products in an aisle, or together in a row of fabrics a specific sign is made for a certain CATEGORY
of products.
Learn how to read a sign, and for heaven sakes, when you're on the rag, stay out of the stores!

Overpaid? On commission? Don't make me laugh.

They act that way BECAUSE they work minimum wage. They certainly aren't going to go out of their way to help you if they get in trouble for working outside their hours or overstepping autonomy. Unless they're being paid for extra training, they definitely aren't going to bother with extra knowledge about sewing.

Frankly, you should be mad at management rather than the front line employees.

Keep on quilting stupid people, nobody want to buy your ugly blankys ! LOL

Their display is full of uncut threads and mistakes, I did better than that when I was 6 years old! LOL
