Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores - very rude customer service

I live about 100 miles from the nearest JoAnn Fabrics store so I do my shopping when I'm in Denver. Last night I was chastised for wasting money on gas, and the clerk wondered how much money I was paid by my employer that I could justify wasting gas coming into Denver from the mountains. JoAnn Fabrics has the worst, worst, worst, customer service of any...

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores - management

I have had it with this store!!! On more than 1 occasion I havve shopped there to find the service is lacking, the people are rude and to beat all, they follow you around and try to sell you more crap! (Do these people work on commision or something?) the last time I was there, I had a problem because they did not want to give me a sale price on something...

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores do not buy from them

I was shopping at this store. When I was about to pay for the item I wanted to buy the cashier demanded my zip code. I refused to give out this confidential information for several reasons:
1. The store does not need to have my zip code or any of my personal information.
2. I was paying with cash. The whole purchase cost $2 so there was no need to get any additional info whatsoever.

The cashier made derogatory comments behind my back and was joking about me with another customer who was next in line. They were laughing at me. Both of them were white Americans. I'm an immigrant and they were making fun of me. I asked for the manager who turned out in the same mold. I returned the merchandise I just bought. He made loud comments about giving my cash back trying to shame me. He was making a mockery out of the whole procedure telling the other people around: You are the witness that I gave $2 cash to this woman.

If any immigrant reads this: DO NOT BUY ANYTHING AT THIS STORE. They are immigrant hater supremacists. The manager name was Steve and the cashier's name Phyllis.

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores rude employee

I went into Jo Ann Fabrics today 4/27/09 @3:30 p.m. in Scottsbluff Nebraska. I had my two daughters with me. They are 2 and 6 years of age. After looking at patters for about 45 minutes my two year old needed to use the restroom. I politely asked if my daughter could use the bathroom. She very rudely told me that I could go across the street to use theirs. I said " please she's only two, and I don't think that she could hold it." The clerk then said "I told you we have no restroom!" I then told her that I had been in there before and the other clerks had let me. She said that they had merchandise back there, and there was only two of them in the store, and she could not go back there to watch me. I think that it is also important to know that there was only one other customer in the store. I told her that I thought she was being redicolous, and really rude. Her next excuse was that their bathroom was not handicap excessible. She said "if a handicap person were to come in and see that my daughter had used the bathroom they would get sued." I shop at Jo Ann's quite frequently because they have the best selection in town. I never go in there for the customer service. It is no secret that they are the rudest old ladies in town. I am very saddend that our society has come to this. We are a small town, it's just too bad that the small town atmosphere is not there in your store.

Chances are, they could have managed to let your child use the restroom under those circumstances, but please keep these things in mind. First of all, the rule about having someone in the stockroom when someone needs to use a non-public restroom is for your protection. Merchandise back there may not be stocked in a stable manner and some of it is quite high, so they need to have someone with you in the event something falls. Also, at a different store I worked at I caught someone who was "trying to find the bathroom" in the stockroom and informed them that the store actually had a public restroom. After the person left we discovered that another associate's wallet was stolen (and people do use their children to help with some of these scams). It is unfortunate that the bad behavior costs everyone else, but in this case the best thing I can suggest is to lobby the corporate headquarters for a public restroom. If you get enough people to tell them they need one they might have to consider it.

I had an almost identical experience wherein the employee directed me to take my 3 year old son to the dollar store next store. She stated that that particular store didn't like them sending people over to use their restroom so i should pretend to shop and THEN ask to use it. Totally blew me away.

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores rude casher

A cashier named "Addy" was extremely rude to me at Joann Fabrics store located inside Gulf Coast Town Center in Fort Myers FL. I have shopped at this store many times before and I have never been asked to present credit card to a casher at this particular location. After I put away my credit card in my wallet and zippered up my handbag, the casher "Addy" goes..." I need to see your credit card." So I replied, " you should have told me that." Then She snapepd at me saying " It's a credit card purchase. You should know that better." There are many better ways to say this. I was quite stunned and very disappointed at the poor qualily of service at Joann Fabrics at Gulf Coast town center. The cashier named "Addy" SHOULD KNOW THAT BETTER that her paycheck is coming from customers' money.

What's the big deal about having to take out your credit card again. It takes maybe 10 seconds...The cashier was only doing her job and as far as I know nobody is perfect, surely not even you.

Jo ann fabrics is a store that takes pride in checking credit cards. each cashier is suppose to check ID and card for your protection. she should not have said what she did.(and maybe used proper English) but she did it for your own safety! be thank full because many stores dont check and thats how fraud and theft happens!

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores employees

I had a lady cut me a 10 inch piece of fabric and then realized it just wasn't big enough. When I told the lady I wouldn't be needing that piece after all, she told me that I had no choice and I would have to pay for it. I spent 40 dollars in there yesterday and another 30 dollars in there today and they refuse to take a 10 inch piece of fabric off my order? The lady was so rude and hateful and talked to me as rude as can be. When I took the fabric up to the register and explained what had happened, the lady smiled and said she would be happy to take it off for me. The lady that cut the fabric for me however, is rude every single time I am in there. Most of the ladies in there are. There is no sign that states they cannot take somthing off your order. If it had been a huge piece of fabric maybe I could understand, but not 10 inches. And for the cutting lady to be so rude about it and then the register lady had no problem helping me..it just shows the cutting lady was just plain being rude.

Without going into a lengthy diatribe (as I'd really like to), I will just say that I HATED WORKING AT JO~ANN for the three months that I could stand it... and I understand completely the complaints I have read. I will state that while I was always congenial and helpful to my customers, really loving the interaction between us, I believe that the reasons for some employees' seeming lack of same is the conditions under which they are made to work. There are so many obtuse corporate policies that the stores and employees have to follow, that working in this frustrating and sometimes degrading atmosphere creates a deep unhappiness, leading to the outward signs of rudeness and a perceived lack of unhelpfulness. I always did my best to ensure that my customers were treated justly and with respect, but due to corporate policies, my efforts were often met with failure. The main reasons for my leaving the company was that I cared too much, tried too hard, and was disrespected by management. No job, to me, is worth the disintegration of the spirit.

i agree that the lady at the counter was very rude and should have taken the fabric back in a heart beat... but you do realize it is easier to sell really big pieces of cut fabric than a 10 in piece...you should know what you want before you get in line to have your stuff cut it makes it fast and easy..!

Actually, unless it was something sold by the inch, they can only cut in certain yard increments. though they are definitely able to take things off the ticket, at least in my local store. However, the huge pieces of fabric are actually easier to take back, because then they can just go back on the bolt, the smaller ones have to be made into remnants or written off.

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores - rude employees

The young women working at the Clive, IA Joann Fabric story are very rude. I went into the store 5 minutes before closing and two girls were at the front counter. One girl phoned someone in the back and said that some lady just came into the store and that she had told the other one to hurry and lock the door before I came in, but the other girl didn't...

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores thiefs

I went to buy my very first sewing machine at Joann Fabrics in Orange, California thinking that a fabric store would have better knowledge on the different sewing machines available. However the sales lady wasn't too helpful in giving me any information on the different models except for the prices. I chose to buy one anyways, i had to wait for the machine because they stored them in the back. I asked them the return policy in case i am not able to use the machine, because it is a expensive purchase for me. They said if I had the orignal reciept I could get a full refund. I then went home and opened up my box and attempted to use the machine, it was a singer model 4210. I could not use the machine and about a 2 months later i had my mother to look at it and found out from my mother that it was not working correctly. So I boxed it up exactly how i got it so i could return it. Even though I kept everything together brand new I couldn't find my reciept so I panicked, what should I do? All I had was a bank statement, so I went and bought the same exact model at the same exact store and went through the same exact process and again i asked about the return policy. I asked my friend to returned the first machine a week or so after I purchased the 2nd machine. She did and was told a check would come in about 2 weeks or so. Then I came again to return the second one at the same store that i had bought both of the machines at, hoping that they would remeber me. I came and ask to speak to the manager and ask if i could return the machine and i didn't have my recipt could she return it for me, she said she did remember me and would look up the reciept in the back. I waited for about 10 minutes when she came back with a reciept, she said it was a copy of the orignal and she asked for my personal information so that she could issue me the refund and then the check would come to me in about 2 weeks. So now Joann Fabrics have both of the sewing machines and payment for both machines, my friend did recieve the check i about 3 weeks, so I waited and waited and waited for the second 1 to come it never did, so I called the store and they told me that they had no control over the refunds and to call the corporate offices and gave a me a number. So I called and was instructed to leave a message and some one would call me back. 10 messages later over 1 1/2 months later I recieved my first call back on my voicemail. I called left another message then finally spoke to a lady, who i might add is very rude. Basically she said i wasn't getting my refund and I couldn't get back the machine that I had paid for, since the same reciept was used for both refunds, she implied that I had stolen it, I explained that I couldn't have even if I tried since they dont even keep the machines in the store they had them in the back somewhere, I explained that I had paid for both but that didn't matter to her and she wasn't going to help me any further. I was very upset that I couldn't even get back my machine even when they refused me the refund. This is unjust and not right that they would keep my money and the machine, how could this happen? Especailly from such a huge chain? What was I to do? I tried to get the charges reversed but found out later I couldn't because my bank says i can only make claims up to 60 days after. So here I am ripped off no sewing machine no money no help or response from the stupid company who took my money and the machine. If any knows what I can do please help! Thanks, I will never buy anything over 10 dollars again from Joanns, I would like to say never but there are simply no other stores within 40 miles that sells fabrics. They are Thieves. I would never tell anyone to make big purchases from them or online.

Store is moving to new location and has been having progressive sale. Last Wednesday 10/3/12 90% off and I drove in for an hour and then merchandise couldn't be sold because it wasn't listed in computer. Employee at the register named Mary who claimed she was the manager said she could do nothing. I attempted to contact someone else with the store before leaving town and spoke with "Mary" again and claimed that someone would call me. Never happened. I was purchasing Dritz Zipper Role, there was 7 yards and 29 inches left in the box but the product code wasn't listed so it couldn't be sold. However, earlier when it was 50% off in the store it was for sale? Unfortunately they are the only fabric store we have in Klamath Falls so I will be driving father north to do my shopping for Linus Group and Quilting. Also, as a note an employee who was leaving they checked her ice tea container? Very sad and unprofessional.

Seriously, it took you two months to figure out the machine wasn't working? Then you bought another one and then tried to return both on the same receipt? O K... no brownie points for genius there...
Anyone that reads this: if you lose your receipt for a high ticket item, most stores can do a reverse look-up by the credit card you used. Also, to make it easier to get your money back- remember the date, time and which register you were on. Then the poor manager that would normally have to sift through thousands of transactions to find the one you lost your receipt for, can narrow it down to a day to look through and save precious time. Also any item over a certain amount without a receipt will most likely be issued a corporate check, which takes time to receive because they have to research and verify the items were not stolen. Believe it not, but theft is rampant at these stores and you wouldn't believe what some lowly jerks will do to make a quick buck if they find a [censored] to exploit.

On July 14, 2011, I did a return NO receipt at the El Cerrito, CA store. The original purchase consisted of 4-5 purchases and I couldn't find the receipts.

I knew at the time, that I was going to purchase some Cricut products, so I didn't think it was that big of a deal.

The refund consisted of 32 items and the refund amount equaled $234.26.

I was told by the manager, HILDA, that due to the amount of the refund, they couldn't give me cash or store credit and that it would have to come from corporate.

In addition, the return receipt states, "your patronage is appreciated. However, due to the nature of this transaction, we are unable to issue payment from this store. We will issue a refund check in the appropriate amount within 2 weeks".

It is the end of August & I still don’t have my refund. I have called corporate SEVEN times. Emailed twice and no response.

I am not going to play nice anymore.

I hope you enjoy my complaint with the BBB and hope you enjoy my small claims suit.

Here's a hint. If you don't have a receipt for an expensive item that you need to return but you know it was bought at JoAnn's and about what day, contact the store and ask them to look up a copy of the receipt BEFORE you take the item in. (Even if you have a receipt they may still have to issue a corporate check depending on how you paid originally). If you wrote a check you would be wise to also bring some form of proof that the check has cleared your bank. I realize that it's hard to maintain your cool when the person you're dealing with seems rude but try to remember that sometimes they're under pressure from the higher ups about giving refunds without receipts since this is a very common rip-off and also try to remember that you may be tagged as suspicious if they think you're trying to force things since this is also something the real con artists use to pressure them to give in. If all else fails, ask for the district manager's office phone number and contact them, they tend to be more concerned with customer service issues than a person manning a phone at corporate. (And please don't ever try buying the same item and using the same receipt to return them both, all other points aside the stores share information within an area and if they catch you doing this once you'll likely be out of luck returning anything receipt or no receipt.)

For all that have had a problem with Joann fabrics you need to FILE a complaint with the BBB . A lawyer is looking into it ! Thank God ! They will be hit hard for their disgraceful practice of taking merchandise from a consumer and not following through with agreements . They are in fact THIEVES ! And to those who don't believe an opinion matters it because they have a small small brain. NO BRAIN no headache !

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores poor product quality

Earlier in the spring I bought 2 Adirondack chairs at Joanne Fabrics and they were very nice. A few weeks ago I bought 4 more Adirondack chairs (on sale) at the same Joanne Fabrics Store. When I opened the boxed they were entirely different chairs. The workmanship was very poor, the pre-cut holes did not line up and the quality was very cheap. Because I thought these chairs were the same ones I had purchased earlier I did not keep the receipt. I am therefore forced to keep these unacceptable chairs. I urge Joanne Fabrics to stop selling such cheap Adirondack Chairs.

I have shopped at Joanne Fabrics for years and this experience made me rethink whether or not I can trust their quality of merchandise.

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores unprofessional behavior

I was Shopping in the Joann’s Fabric Store in W. Lebanon, NH the night of 5/5/08 when I heard a supervisor named Brett complaining very loudly and unprofessional to another employee, about several of the other employees. I and a friend I was shopping with as well as another shopper were shocked at the behaviour of this employee and felt someone should know about this inappropriate behaviour. This is not the first time I have heard these types of things coming from this employee. I have heard her yelling on her headpiece before at employees about her dissatisfaction or need for something. I Know I would not want to work for a supervisor like this and I honestly do not know how the employees that work at the JoAnn's in W. Lebanon, NH do. I commend them for their ability to do so.

Order came in pieces again for a second time. I already have instructions to the rep how to pack ceramic. The box is 10 times bigger than the item and you can hear is moving when you pick up the box. The exactly same problem as previous. I don’t need an apology. I need a refund and will never buy anything from your store again

I'll summarize that racial sensitivity training would be a big win for this store beginning with the store manager. She can't train her staff if she is the ultimate culprit. Shameful and deplorable.

june 12, 2017. I brought in a 5x7", approximately, cross-stitch to be custom-framed. i chose a small frame and one mat. with 60% + 10% off coupon, the total came to $93. if i had not had a coupon, it would've come to $260! this seems ridiculous to me! i feel like they inflate the original price because they know most people have coupons.

I go to JoAnns in Watertown, NY and have found some of the employees to be disrespectful and just mean to other employees, mainly the girls Crystal, Susan and the manager Shannon. They used to have an employee with an odd name, Tersa or something but she's gone now, thank God. Susan talks bad about other employees to the customers and crystal is always mean and Stalin like toward employees and then turns and is very fake towards customers.

I go to the Joann Store on stevens creek blvd, CA. An employee by name Kimberly is very rude too. Just like another person mentioned, i have seen her talk bad about her other collegues. She is very rude too.
Every time i have a question, she sighs & makes irritated expressions & sighs & does everything to make me feel uncomfortable. Somehow she happens to be the only cutter, so i end up going to her always & she ends up being very rude everytime. It seems like the joann doesnt have a place to give feedback else i would have mentioned this issue with them too.
I would like to go that store just because of her. The others seem to be ok though.
I hope she reads this & change her attitude towards customers.
We doing business & so she is having a job there.

They are soo rude everytimes I go there it amaze me they are still in business!

I must mention the one in Daytona Beach, OMG! the ladies that sell those expensive Viking are the rudest and most ignorants I ever met!

NOT ONCE but twice now, did I stand right in front of their counter to ask questions about a machine, they know me, and they also know that I can afford their expensive machine ( but I refused to buy it there because of there behavior toward me ).

Two of the saleperson just talk and talk to themself about their little boring life ignoring me for a couple of minutes, when one of them finaly saw that I wouldn't go away, she ask me if I need it anything? Finaly!

I had just purchase a new sewing machine ( not their Cadillac lol ) I don't need it thanks for the little that I use it. It seem to bother them that I won't pay the price of thousand of dollars !

The machine that I purchase from one of the clerk ( that took the time one night there was nothing to play on the computer with ) is a Singer, brand new top of the line.
The problem I have...the foot unlike ALL the other machine I ever used in my 45 years of sewing, doesn't respond well, it hesitate, sometimes it take a couple time to get it going even...weird.

Their answer... GO ONLINE TO SINGER.COM in a tone of voice that would tell you to go to h...l in other words.

I can't beleive this attitude toward potentialy cash paying customer. I think that if a secret shopper would stop by, their litlle business would be shut down in a minute.

I was a store manager before, and I never but never would of put up with this kind of attitude from my saleperson.

I WILL NEVER BUY NOTHING FROM THEM! I WILL GO OUT OF MY WAY NOT TOO!

They lost my money that's for sure...

THE WORST I EVER SAW! don't buy from this store, the before and after service is non- existant!

I'm not the only one that think like this, I saw other customer selling their machine that they refuse to take back also.
