I ordered glasses with optical lenses, paid a deposit, and delivery was agreed to be within 2 weeks. After 4 weeks, no glasses, finally I contacted consumer protection office to help me get the glasses. It worked, I got them, and paid the full sum.
Only to find out that the lenses were not as ordered but stronger! I felt dizzy and got headache when wearing them. So went to another optician to have the lense strength checked: they were too strong!
I complained to Jim Kounnas, the optician in question, but he refused to make me new glasses with correct lenses, neither would he pay me back the money, altogether €350 that I paid for the useless glasses.
Besides the incorrect lenses, the quality of work (lenses, fitting to frame) is totally inferior, can't be called professional work.
On top, Jim Kounnas made up that he had performed me sight testing when I ordered the glasses. This is a sheer lie, as the glasses were to be made according to my present glasses, with similar lens values.
Conclusion: optometrist Jim Kounnas is a liar, who does not follow the ethical rules of his profession. His laboratory is not able to produce standard quality of work as to lenses and frame fitting. NOTE: Kounnas has shops in Limassol, Nicosia, and Paphos, plus online shop at www.kounopt.com.
Stay far from any of these! I can prove my bad experience anytime by showing the technical documents and pictures of the ### glasses he gave me.

My experience was excellent, I buy 2 frames, get a great discount, and my frames arrived well. Really good service. I've seen comments about service but its strange in all these comments complaining people always comment they received a response, this is a signal that the service is very good.
I don't have any complaint, the store owner always replied my emails and informed me about status and the more important, he worry when I commented him I was requiring frames sooner, and he helped me.
Thank you a lot for a great service at a wonderful price.
I'm in Panama now.

Dear James Watts,

We always do our utmost best to complete orders as soon as possible. We handle thousands of orders every year and have completed and shipped over 200, 000 orders since 1999 when we commenced our online business. Unfortunately despite our best efforts we do, as with all online stores, have cancellations due to various reasons and I can inform you that we do have a small 0.5% cancellation rate ( mostly returns). All products presented on our website are in stock in one of our locations. I do remember speaking to you on the phone and would have confirmed the frame you were interested in is in stock. You did order your glasses on April 17 and the lenses were completed, according to the lab's records, on May 4 and were then slotted in for glazing and edge polishing. This is not an unreasonable time to prepare high index progressive lenses with multiple coatings. I can understand your concern being a first time purchase for you for glasses online. I believe the last time we spoke was May 10 when you decided to cancel the order believing the frame wasn't in stock which is incorrect. My reference to the frame "arriving" meant it was on it's way to the lab not that we didn't have it in stock. I also offered you ( as per my email dated May 8), a discount however you decided to cancel. We communicated at least six times via email and several times over the phone and do not find any reference that you wanted the eyeglasses on a specific date nor did you provide a deadline. We maintain the highest standards in production and operate in house a multimillion dollar hi tech laboratory producing the highest standard in lenses worldwide. In fact we ship worldwide. In closing, I can understand your disappointment and regret being unable to provide you with your eyeglasses.

I recently wanted to try ordering my glasses online and maybe saving some money. I tired a number of websites and finally came up on Jim Kounnas. I called his number and spoke directly to him specifically asking him if he had the frames I wanted in stock, he said he had 3 in stock and they would turn around quickly. I went ahead and placed my online order. in 14 days, I had heard nothing and called again, he said give him a few more days and they would ship. He updated me that the lab had completed the work and they were on their way to his shop and he would ship them out the very same day he received them. Well, I waited 4 days and never received an email like he promised. I called again and he said, just a few more days, we're waiting on your frames to get in stock. Well, this proved this is a scam company and he lied to me from the beginning. I insisted on a refund. Long story short, I'm glad I used PayPal, because I had to start a claim with them to my money back. I guess I learned my lesson. I'm posting this here so anyone thinking about ordering glasses from Jim Kounnas at www.kounopt.com please don't do it. It's not worth the headache and this guy is a shady character for sure.

We do our best to fill orders as quickly as possible as we currently obtain approximately a thousand orders a month for the past 20 years online as we provide eyeglasses at up to 50% off retail. We use the highest quality products and own and operate a multimillion dollar laboratory for the manufacture of the most precision lenses worldwide. We export eyeglasses all over the world. Some are filled and shipped within 24 hours and others can take over a month depending on what is ordered. We try our best to meet our customer requirements and unfortunately this is not possible in all cases as is with yourself when deadlines cannot be met. As we discussed on the phone, your glasses were ultimately ready to ship but you had decided to cancel the order even though I offered you a substantial discount. Your inference that we are a scam company or that we had no intention to refund your money is regrettable. We would not be in business online for 20 years if that were the case (and 30 years in private practise). We wish you all the best and once again our apologies for being unable to fill your order as per your request.

Jim Kounnas certainly sounds like he won't be coming back to australia-thank you "Iwillcatchup" my friend was cheated by this hippocrite. I had also heard these things you say about his past in Australia from other professionals in Cyprus. I wonder where he will go when hes scammed to many people in Cyprus? Syria maybe...

Jim Kounnas who ive known from his young days in Australia has always been a dodgy operator.
On his escape from the country he left behind debts and ripped off friends and foes alike, always behind the facade of being an ethical "born again Christian"
He ripped off his university "mates" so imagine what he'll do to "customers".
Purchasing from him any product would be the equivalent of flushing money down the toilet.
I hope one day to run into him in Australia and show him what I think, however I know there's a huge line of people in front of me.

As my name is mentioned in the reply, I wish to inform that I have not personally posted this Complaint. I'd not even know about it unless Kounnas hadn't informed me.
Basically it tells the truth, using expressions that differ from my way of putting things.
I have made official complaints to consumers' authorities and optical association in Cyprus, and need not express myself on a public website.
Besides, the faulty "coke-bottle" lenses have been now replaced by correct, good quality transient lenses - by a skilled professional. There are honest and responsible opticians in Limassol, too. :-)

Dear Anne Helena Näveri, Unfortunately you have failed to provide me with a prescription from an Ophthalmologist or another Optometrist. Once you do that I will be glad to remake your lenses as I have told you this on many occasions. Some written numbers on the back of a business card from an optician is not acceptable. Your vision with your old prescription gives you only 30% vision for distance which can be dangerous for yourself and other members of the public. However if you can find a healthcare professional who can certify the prescription for this level of vision, I will gladly remake the lenses as that person will take the responsibility.

This is why you lost your case with the Consumer Affairs Department because you refuse to provide a prescription since you doubt my prescription. Also note that in your email to me dated 19/12/2011 you did not complain to me about your vision. You had some issues with regard to a stone coming off the frame and the polishing of the edges of the lenses which was carried out on February 17th, 2012 when you brought your glasses in to carry out this work which was done.

I have over 25 years experience with over 20, 000 patients in Cyprus, for which we keep patient record cards. We provide the highest quality lenses and rectify any problems that arise from time to time which is inevitable with any product.

It is the very fact that I follow strict ethical rules that does not allow me to have a patient dictate to me the prescription they "think" they need. It would be the same as going to your Doctor and demanding they write the prescription for medicine the patient wants and not what the doctor advises.

When you came in to order your spectacles on the 23rd November, 2011, I invited you into the consulting room to check the old prescription since you were going to have a new pair made. I do this with all patients. I adjusted the prescription as is proper practise to give you the best vision. On the 9th May, 2012 you came in again and insisted that the lenses were too strong so I asked you to the consulting room to recheck the prescription but you refused to have the eye examination completed and you insisted that the lenses should be less power ( -250) for which you could not see clearly on the chart. It seems you decided at some point that you did not want to have an increase in the power in order to see clearly. This is obviously why you refuse to seek another eye examination. Giving me numbers on the back of a business card ( which anyone could write these numbers) is not acceptable proof.

In closing, I have noted a series of derogatory and defamatory remarks posted on several websites by yourself even up to the point of attacking my sexual orientation which I do not see this has anything to do with your glasses. I will be writing to you via email in due course regarding my decision on how I will be proceeding with regard to this. My advise is to take legal action. Do we really need to go this far over a pair of lenses. Think about the legal costs and damages you may need to pay, I can assure you it will exceed 350 Euros.

The solution to this matter is quite simple: just provide a signed prescription and I will remake your glasses. Every patient has the right to a second opinion.

I look forward to receiving communication from you in the next 14 days from today. You have my email address.

Jim kounnas has also cheated a friend of mine- Sumthing should be done about this low life thief. I have looked at his website; www.kounopt.com and he advertizes money back with no problems for faulty or unwanted items but he has flatly refused any sort of reimbursement for incorrectly made glasses.It is "buyer beware" with this character.I wish you well in trying to get some sort of honest result but i think this jim kounnas is a big time scammer. My friend has given up so has lost a reasonable amount of money and jim kounnas has won- it is very wrong indeed.
