Island Motor Limited, Jamaica / Car not driving
On December 15, 2005, I purchase a brand new 2006 307 peugeot hatchback 5 seater car from the company Island Motors Limited, Jamaica. Six Month later on Tuesday, June 27, 2006, while I was driving the car in the vicinity of Golden Spring, St. Andrew. I observed a computer reading on the dashboard saying “engine over heating” and also observed that the needle was hitting the red mark on the gauge. I stopped the car and allowed it to cool down.
On the following day, Wednesday, June 28, 2006, I returned the car to Island Motors Limited and reported the problem. I was asked to leave the car for servicing.
Later that afternoon I received a telephone call from a Mr. Francis Wright who told me that the car was ready and I could collect it. I visited Island Motors Limited on Thursday, June 29, 2006. Upon my arrival I enquired as to the exact nature of the problem. Mr. Francis (Service Manager) explained that it had been an electrical problem.
On Sunday, July 2, 2006, three days after Island Motors Limited had assured me that that they had fixed the electrical problem, the car suddenly shut off. This incident occurred while I was waiting at the traffic light. The car proved very difficult to start when attempts were made to do so.
The car again was returned to the company for the problem to be remedied. After about four days of not getting any form of communication from Mr. Francis, I wrote a letter addressed to Mrs. Belinda Levy (Administrator / Manager) to register my dissatisfaction with the poor service being given by the car and to indicate that I was on the verge of turning it in. In the same letter to her, I alluded to the fact that I am a traveling officer who needs to use my car to carry out my work effectively.
I also advised Mrs. Levy that due to the loss of use I was forced to resort to the taking of taxis or rental of motor cars.
Upon receipt of my letter, Mrs. Levy called to inform me that I would be given a car to use until they fixed mine.
On Friday, July 14, 2006 I visited Island Motors limited in the company of my uncles, Messrs. Sylvester Simms, and Sebert Simms with the intention of collecting the car. Upon arrival at Island Motors Limited, my uncles, being mechanics, asked Mr. Francis Wright (Service Manager) for permission to see my car. When we were taken to see the car, to our surprise, the engine had been removed from the car.
from I received the car, it has been constantly shutting down until it finally stop driving and the company has been closed down with out even notifying me and I am now without of a vehicle and the company has not compensate me for the car which they finally told me was a manufacturer's fault and how they were sending reports to peugeot International about the problem and they were to receive a new engine to replace the one in my car which I am still awaiting. without any form of communication from Island Motors Limited.
