Intoxalock Interlock device - device causing engine problems and terrible customer service

I have a 2007 Toyota Camry. Three mornings ago, I came out and my car wouldn't start, even though I was able to provide a breath sample. The battery light was on, as was a malfunction indicator light. I assumed the battery had died (a map light had been on for 3 days). The unit indicated that I was now in a lockout. I called Intoxalock and was told that they would be able to resolve the lockout once the battery was charged. I had to speak to two people, since the first had such a heavy Indian accent that I could not understand him and he had no idea how to help me.

I charged the battery overnight. The Intoxalock still would not work (no signals at all), nor would my car start. By this time, I had "enjoyed" three telephone calls with customer service with three different individuals. Their consensus was that the battery had caused the Intoxalock to malfunction, but that as soon as I had a working battery, they would be able to connect to it to clear the lockout. I was also told that, if I held the button down on the unit for 5 beeps, it would tell me the level of charge the battery had. This was not true - no beeps and no display.

I then replaced the battery with a brand new one. Nothing. The Intoxalock would not work and the car would not start. During a 5th call to Intoxalock, I was told that I had to take my car to the business that had installed the unit. That would have meant a tow charge to a place that was 30 miles away. Plus, I was worried that there was something wrong with the car itself because of the malfunction indicator light that meant (according to the manual) I was supposed to take it to a Toyota dealer.

I had the car towed to my mechanic which was only 10 miles away. That was $80.00 on top of the $154.00 for the new battery. I called Intoxalock and was told by a very snotty, impatient rep that "I had done the wrong thing" - should have taken it to the device installer. I was so angry at this point that she agreed to talk to my mechanic personally.

The next morning I got a call from my mechanic to say that there was nothing wrong with the car. The problem was being caused by the Intoxalock. Their rep told my mechanic how to get the car started so that I could drive it to the unit installer, Car Toys.

Car Toys then told me that, in their experience, the unit may have caused the problem because sometimes they malfunction, but that for now they would just do a re-calibration. I got the re-calibration this morning and I can start my car, but now there is something wrong with the VSC / ABS systems.

My car was fine before I got the Intoxalock. So was my mental health.

I also had a previous lockout problem (and was charged a $75.00 fee) that I believe was unjustified. I passed the breath test and began to start my car, but realized I had left my electronic key in the house. I went in to get it and was back out in less than a minute. The unit was counting down. It would display a time, then say "start car." Then it would display another time, and say "start car." Since it said "start car," I did so. This caused a lockout for an "unauthorized start."

I want the $75.00 fee for the first lockout refunded. I also want the $75.00 fee for this lockout refunded. And I want to be credited the $80.00 for my towing charge into my mechanic. It was their unit that made that necessary. I'll suck up the $154.00 for the new battery, although I think that purchase was probably unnecessary, but can't prove it at this time.

Intoxalock Ignition interlock device

I had a DUI and my court order said that I could not drive without an IID. I called intoxalock in June 2017 to schedule an installation and at first they were very easy to get ahold of. They told me that they'd contact the MAU & call me when we could go forward with the appointment. They called back within a day and we scheduled the appt the first week of July with a shop that they recommended. When I got the device installed, the shop owner said that he was waiting on one more form and that he'd send it to the dmv. I had a 5 month lease with them. When the lease was almost up in December 2018 I contacted the MAU to make sure that I could get the device removed. They told me they had no record of my being required to have an iid. I explained that it was court ordered and that I'd been paying for the devices. The MAU told me to go ahead and get it removed. I called intoxalock and told them exactly what the MAU told me and attempted to schedule the device removal. The intoxalock rep told me that if I broke the lease early I would be fined. So I still had to pay for the last calibration even though my lease was up the following week. In April 2019 I received a letter from the DMV stating that I was required to get the IID. I thought this was an easy fix as I had completed this the year before. Upon speaking to the DMV, I was told that I never provided a DL-920. This was the first time I'd ever heard of it. When I applied for the court ordered restricted drivers license I had taken a Certificate of IID Installation that intoxalock provided. I was never advised by the company to make sure I obtained a DL-920. When I called Intoxalock to work out what I was sure had been a mistake, the representative told me (for the first time) that I had not been eligible to have the device installed. I asked why the company went forward with making the appointment ( they called 6/28/18 and still made an allotment for 7/7/17) and the rep rudely told me that people voluntarily get this device in their car. I asked why I wasn't informed that I had been determined ineligible and she said that it was my responsibility to call the MAU myself to confirm. I called intoxalock the next day and spoke to a customer service specialist. I asked him why I wasn't informed of ineligibility and he said that I was given a packet upon installation that contained a letter stating that the MAU said I was not eligible. I never received this packet. The shop owner seemed to be under the impression that intoxalock would be sending him a form. Why would this company wait until after they've had me sign a lease and pay for installation to supposedly inform me that I wasn't eligible? So I would have to break the lease and pay an extra fine? Why didn't intoxalock inform me that I was never eligible when I questioned them before getting the device removed?

I would like to add that I had to get a new battery after having this installed for a month. I also had to replace my starter because my car would no longer start after having the IID removed. Every representative I spoke to has been unhelpful and borderline rude. This company cannot be trusted.

Intoxalock Retaliation using recal device, after a customer complaint call.

I have been attempting to get a ignition device removed. Multiple calls, emails, chats, finally got Tyrel on the line 5/6/19. Was told not eligible because of a rolling missed blow, I was never notified of. I was upset voiced my displeasure regarding how difficult it was to obtain this info, I hung up on Tyrel. Within 24 hrs, a recal notice within 6 days showed up on my device. I just had the device recalibrated on 4/19. Called and talked to a man named Cathy, to be told the laws in my state changed. It's now every 30. And it's a repeat in 6 days because of how many days in the month. Asked to speak to supervisor Vernon, got answering machine. Tried again no response. This is a direct retaliation for my consumer complaint, using a state regulated system. I will continue to file complaints daily till this is fixed.

Intoxalock Overcharged

I have another lockout, this is my second one, the first one was because I sprayed perfume. Had to pay the 80$! Since I have had this machine, it almost always tells me to stop blowing each time it retests me. I am not even blowing in it. It does this until I pull over and shut off the car and then restart the car. This causes me to be late for many things such as work. I've called and asked someone about it and they say it should stop when I get my machine calibrated. Well it still happens. I got to work today at 7am and didn't leave till 7pm and somehow in that time I got a lockout. What the heck! Now I have to pay another 80$?

Intoxalock Consumer service and faulty equipment they want me to pay for

This is hands down the worse company when it comes to customer service. Numerous times i called and these people seems like they have 3rd grade mentally and a college degree in being obnoxious. This was the icing on the cake. On April 8, 2018 i spoke with a person name Nate from Collection and it seems that this person was in a very bad mood and unleashed out on me. After the fact that i ask for a supervisor and he told me "No" and hung up on me. I have the recording of our conversation and will be releasing it on social media. I called back April 12, 2019 got the same person Nate and he was rude again. After i ask to speak to a supv he told me no and hung up again. These actions should not be tolerated in a workplace and this company should have a class on how to talk to customers.
They faulty equipment is the reason why my car got towed but that's another story

Intoxalock Ignition interlock device/crooks

I received a notice for installation from these Jerks after getting a DUI and they made it look official so I called. My DUI ticket was from 12/03/18, my court date set for 04/02/19 and my dmv hearing 03/14/19 and I made this call on JANUARY 23rd 2019.They told me that I needed to get this thing installed right away, I gave them the dates I have with dmv and court they said I had to do it as soon as possible(LIE) so I made an appointment and had to change it not knowing that they were charging me even another $40, so then I show at the appointment they installed it(piece of crap).Installer tells me to take the Certificate to the dmv, I head home first set up an account and find out about all there hidden fees, then I find more complaints about them that I could possibly read them all and to top it off these creeps wanted me to sign an agreement that would last a whole year(who made that decision for me)and I have an incredibly hard time trying to work this piece of junk.So as of now I want this thing out of my car and see what the judge says and I still have NOT signed the agreement nor have I taken the certificate to dmv, tried to contact them through their help center(no reply)and I e-mail them(no reply)and have tried calling the DMV Mandatory Actions Unit with no luck.Someone please contact me if you have any advice this thing has to go!

Intoxalock Breathylyzer malfunction and misinstalled

I just installed an interlock device. It had a camera and gps device installed with in. I never agreed to that in court. Which I completed sucessfully with the courts in 2016; yet adot resuspended my license to comply with them also. When I left shop my "Service Engine Soon", and "ABS" lights were on. I went to complete my title, regristration, and renew license. This hand device is big and blowing on it for almost 2 blocks (exhale, inhale, exhale again in 2 second increments) was a distraction. I went to test again as it warned me. As I picked up breathylyzer from my lap. The mouth piece had fell out unforcebly. As I scrambled to search and get it. In that split instance of distraction a vehicle had been braked in front of me. I slammed on breaks yet my breaks did not lock, and I slammed the vehicle ahead of me at speed limit of 40mph. I am seeking possibly lawyer assistance.
Best Regards,
Also instead of blowing every 20 minutes; I blew every 5 to 10 minutes.

Intoxalock Breathalyzer

I would make it a zero if I could. The device was installed in October, 2018. Since November, I reported a run wire error message. I ended up being told it normally happens when you can't start the car, and if I could start it, ignore it. I even had the installers check everything related to the install, and they could not find a problem.Since then, they have replaced the unit, and I was told earlier this week I had to get it into a repair shop and get the battery replaced. that it cannot be any older than two years. Nobody offered that info when they installed it. Spent $159.00 for new battery yesterday. Error message came back today. Now I'm having to get the alternator tested today. I have to have surgery on my left hand on the 28th, so I will be driving one handed. I asked them about scheduling the tests (which another company did when I had a handheld device). They said they couldn't, and I had to obey state laws. So I have to do a rolling breath test at least 4 times on my way to work, and I won't be able to use my left hand for 4 to 6 weeks.

Intoxalock Breathalyzer ignition interlock device

Charged me to set up, told me one fee then billed for more, part arrived very fast, next day, however... It was missing a part, long story short my vehicle was in the shop for 6 days and was never fully installed, yes I said fully, so I was charged by the garage $100 for the partial instal and by the 6th day they were instructed to remove the item of no use and then was charged another $70. Now i'm out $170 for nothing except a headache
They assured me I would not be charged... Lol boy did they ever!

I have spent hours on the phone with the worst customer service on the pant and have gotten no where, they kept my card on file and have charged me again for the non service for a grand total of $162.88 and that's for an early cancelation fee for something that never happened not even a contract signed. So what ive had to do is file fraud charges on my credit card. I would advise that no one ever use this company, they are liars and a complete nightmare to deal with. Just as the person above stated very nice until they get their money then thats all the derps come out.

Intoxalock Interlock device

I wish I could give zero stars.

I have nothing but negative things to say about Intoxalock. When you're trying to get set-up/installed, they're polite and helpful so you will start paying them, but they become increasingly more incompetent when you're trying to get the device removed.

They make it seem so friendly and easy at first but don't mention that you have to sign a "lease" -- what if you don't need the device for that long?! No one is getting these things for "fun." It's a SCAM.

Everytime you call you're on hold for 20+ minutes. I spent HOURS on the phone, talking with several associates, trying to get them to understand my situation, but they could not comprehend it because it deviated from their script. They sent me on a wild goose chase and had me go to the DMV TWICE, then kept repeating the same irrelevant instructions. I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor multiple times and was denied. An associated named "James" hung up on me twice -- yes, a customer service representative hung up on ME, twice. I didn't know that even happened...

Another supervisor named "Cheyanne" told me my situation was resolved but then I had to spend additional hours on the phone a few days later. Just an absolute nightmare.

I will never recommend that another individual uses this company, even my worst enemy. My attorney will also recommend that future clients do NOT use Intoxalock. Dealing with this company was a traumatic experience that cost me so much time and money. I have never had a customer service experience like this before.

Shame on you, Intoxalock.

Intoxalock Interlock device

I recently inquired about a interlock device, through Intoxalock. I had a hand held device put into my car on April 17, 2018. I had the device for two days, when it threw a code for, failure pump. Which it left me stranded, and I could not start my car. I contacted Intoxalock, in regards to the situation. Only to be told that I needed to pay to have my car towed 30 miles back to the device center. To have them switch out devices. Due to the emergency of my car's location, not being able to start, and me not having the money to pay for towing. I had to jump start my car. Which sent the device into a frenzy, and caused, what they call a lockout. When arriving to the service center. I was told nothing was wrong with the device and they felt, it didn't need to be replaced. Later that evening, leaving my son's open house at school. The device threw the same code for failured pump. After trying it again, it started the car. The next day after work. I was getting ready to leave and the device, again threw the same code. Only this time it left me stranded. After being on the phone with Intoxalock for nearly an hr. which 40 minuets of it, was being on hold. I had no choice but to jumpstart the car again. This time I after finally getting a hold of a representative. I informed them, I want this device removed from my car. Only to be told, that I would have to pay to have it removed, and it could not be done, until the following day. While in the meantime, my car will not start. Also to be told, that I have to pay Intoxalock over $300 for an early termination fee. Which I could get zero resolve from any representative. Nor could I get a supervisor or manager to call me back. That finally after making several attempts to call. A supervisor took my call. Only to refuse to hear anything I had to say, and hung up on me. Still I have not been able to resolve this issue, and I continue to get threatening emails that I need to pay the balance, that I supposedly owe. For an early lease termination, which I never signed a lease to begin with.

Intoxalock Iid

3/8/18
missed rolling retest

I started up my car to warm it up and went outside for 5 mins to clear the snow off of the vehicle. I got back into the vehicle after 5 mins and the machine was beeping so I did my rolling retest. I get to my destination, do what I needed to do, come back to my car to start it and it now is giving me a lockout violation 3. I called the company and they stated that I missed the rolling retest and have to pay $80 for a lockout service. This is pure extortion and the person said that she couldnt see the data log.

I beleive that this company should be shut down for ripping off the clients, be forced to return all the lockout fees that they ripped off from consumers that blow clean numbers.

Intoxalock Bad product/customer service/ complaint resolution

If you have any other options do not choose this company.

Here is my story:
Got the device installed two weeks ago and they claim that they sent that information to the dmv but the dmv still has no record of this occurring so my car sits in my driveway while I sit on my couch with no license.

Went out in my driveway last night and I could hear a loud buzzing coming from under the dash. So I thought "crap, that's gotta be draining my battery". Sure enough my battery was dead when I tried to start it.

This morning I jumped the car and the device was acting weird: totally blank with random beeping. Anyway, I charge it for a while then I shut it off. Later I go out and hear it beeping. Open the door and its asking me to give a sample which I do. All is good but then the device says i've been locked out.

I call them to see whats going on and tell them the device is acting wonky. They say that the device wasn't displaying properly because the battery was low and consequently I missed some requested samples while I was running my car to charge the battery. I said "how am I supposed to know that i'm supposed to provide a sample if the display isn't working?" they said that I am responsible for keeping my vehicle in operational order and I now owe them 84 dollars for the lockout fee.

I said "let me talk to a manager because I want to dispute this fee".
As I wait on hold for 15 minutes, I check my account on their website and low and behold they already charged the fee.

The manager would not capitulate and she was hard to hear over her television. But she was able to set me up with an appointment to have my device removed. That'll be another $280. Thanks and have a nice day.

Intoxalock Customer service

Everytime ive ever called its 10 minutes before anyone even bothers to answer the call. Then i get to repeat my information for the 2nd time. Normally there is yet another transfer.. which i have waited in hold for over 25 minutes. Then of course you repeat your info for a 3rd time. Its like they have 2 people and 2 people only answering thr phones. Awful is an understatement. All this for the low low price of 97 dollars a month.

Intoxalock Customer service/business ethics

I had my interlock device installed through Intoxalock in late August/Early September of 2017. The initial sign up was very smooth and easy. I contacted online my interest in getting the device installed and was reached within minutes through my phone my a customer representative. Everything was set up to be installed within 30 minutes. A week after getting my device installed I found myself stuck outside of the post office for almost four hours because the device would not allow my car to turn on even after sending at least 10 clean breath samples. I had to contact Intoxalock numerous times before I was able to reach somebody who was able to help me. My installer was sent to my town to rewire the device so I could be on my way. I missed my classes and a test I had that day due to the failure of the device. The customer representatives were not nearly as eager to help during this time as they were when signing me up.
It gets worse.. :)
On January 1, 2018 I was involved in a car accident on my way to work while attempting one of the devices rolling tests. While going 25-30 miles an hour down a residential street at 6:20AM my device went off. I reached down in my usual spot to grab it and it had fallen by my feet at the gas pedal, I quickly reached down to grab it for what seems like 2 seconds and during that time I ran straight into a parked car so hard that it went up the curb and onto the sidewalk as well as going forward and hitting the car in front of it. What I suspect is that while reaching for the device I had accidentally accelerated. I am aware that the device gives you several minutes to provide a sample, this time is supposedly meant to allow drivers to pull over to provide the sample. Yet I have also read many articles through interlock devices that rolling tests are 100% safe and provide no distraction. There is no display, holder, etc for the device so you must set it down somewhere near you while driving. It also has a very long and invasive chord that comes down from your dashboard and down by your feet. This can be a dangerous set up if say, ahem..it falls down by the gas pedal while you're driving and you must pick it up. What if I were on the freeway?
I have been driving for more than 10 years and some of them were obviously while I was inebriated. I've never gotten into an accident up until this occurrence.
The main point is that I attempted to contact Intoxalock for several days immediately after the accident to see how I could cancel my account and what to do with the device (since my car is now totaled and sitting at a towing establishment) and received no answer despite sitting on hold for more than 30 minutes each time I called. I emailed them several days ago still with no response. I eventually had to contact my interlock installer since I had a recalibration appointment with him that I obviously didn't need, and he said he would try to make contact with them for me. He contacted me today and said he had reached them and told them of my situation. I still haven't heard from intoxalock. I will be refusing to pay them any account payments or cancellation fees. This is one of the worst companies I have ever had the dissatisfaction of dealing with.
For future potential customers, I wish you luck and I hope you have a better experience than I have had. Pull over during rolling tests. With the amount of accidents that have occurred, Intoxalock installers and intoxalock customer representatives need to put a huge emphasis on pulling over during rolling tests to their clients. Research car accidents while using this device and you will find several. And these are just the ones that have been posted online.

Intoxalock Closing fees

I installed this device on april 20, was supposed to have it for 5 months. Intoxalock was unprofessional and of no help from the get go. They told me that I had 60days to turn in paperwork to dmv, they referred me to a car radio place called paradyme to get the device installed. Now after paying intoxalock, I had to pay the car audio place for installation. Intoxalock sent in paperwork full of mistakes which dmv denied, I had to contact intoxalock to rectify the zip code error, then I go to dmv, they send me back, paperwork had mistake, vin number was wrong, had to go back to paradyme again, by the time I was ready to turn paperwork in, (lease was from april 20 to sept 20) it was june 20, dmv accepted my paperwork but my lease was made to begin june 20 to nov 21, I had been paying mind you. Now I had to call intoxalock and see if they could help me, no help... I had to redo anoth lease and pay extra money. Nightmare now comes trying to get this thing out. First they tried to get an extra $35 for expedited shipping, then another rep told me since my lease ends nov 20, I will have to pay for nov 20 to dec 20th. I had paid all my fees and will have to pay $40 to get device removed. Why is intoxalock allowed to scam the people? I just want to get their god damned device out and quit paying money that I don't have.
