Good 👍
Intelius is generally doing well in dealing with customer problems, which is nice to see! But there is still a lot of work to be done (for example, responding to all incoming complaints). We suggest reviewers take some time to understand how exactly the company operates. Reading other customers' experiences can also give insight into how Intelius handles challenging situations.

I would like to do business with you in the future as I deal with a lot of people that I must confirm their information. They too tryed to charge a Walmart visa card that I had for my daughter to use, got lucky cause they couldn't get the charge, my daughter use it for her graduation and run it down to to $11.00 and the Intellius company was declined and sent me email to add funds in the account so the Intellius subscription could be up to date, go figure, my daughter did a .99 check on a phone # that kept bugging her and Intellius wanted to hook her up with a monthly charge as well, I canceled the card cause there like leeches, you can't get them off you. Had trouble with them a couple years ago (got me for 2 months) finally got them off the card with no pay back but noticed a few months later they started charging again, so if you get them to stop charging and don't cancel your card, keep an eye on it cause when your not looking they'll get you again without your permission, there theives man, leeches, sponges.

My name is Sydney Mitosinka. I was charged by Intelius for $19.95 a month for a subscription that I did not want. It has been taken out of my bank account now two months in a row without permission. I am very upset about this and I am going to contact the BBB to see if there could be some ramification for this. I have tried to contact Intelius by phone but only remained on hold for about thirty minutes without speaking to anyone. I expect them to discontinue this unauthorized use of my debit card and return the two payments they have deducted from my bank account.

on November8, 2008 you charged my American Expres cards an amount of $75.80 for a "subscribtion and membership fee" that was not called for and never authorized by me. Kindly issue a credit for this amount at once.
I am certain that this was an error on your partr.

Thank you, Lee P. Merel

I was also tricked by the Intellius Subscription service. I looked up one name for a 99c special deal, thought I read the fine print carefully to make sure I wasn't signing up for any additional charges, but then found monthly charges from Intellius for $19.95. Unfortunately, I didn't realize what it was until now, the day before the 3rd charge would have gone onto my credit card. My credit card company told me they could not dispute the charges because it was a recurring charge. The Intellius people cancelled my charge for tomorrow and told me that was all they could do. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the person came back on the phone and said their supervisor had cancelled the charge from a month ago. So I still paid the $19.95 charge from Sept 08, but got $40 dropped/stopped. My opinion? Intellius must make millions of dollars this way from unsuspecting people!

Intelius subsciption charge I did not authorize

intelius-intelius.com frauded my account by charging me a subscription fee of 19.95 per monthj when it was not authorized. i did purchase a one time location of a friend for 2.95 with no strings attached. 7 days after the real charge was made they took it upon themselves to sign me up for a subscription at 19.95 a monthj it has been a nightmare to get this reimbursed. it is a total scam-buyers please beware.

Intelius unauthorized charges on my account

I was charged by Intelius Peoplesearch $15.85 which I expected to pay, but also included on my American Express bill were charges of $69.90 and $19.95 for one month = $105.70. I paid this charge in order to not damage my credit record. Now this month
I received a bill for $19.95 again for membership which I never wanted or asked for. I want to be credited for the $69.90, $19.95 and $19.95 and taken out of your "so called" membership.

I expect action with 10 days or I will have my attorney contact you.

I was charged by Intelius 19.95 for 10 months which I NEVER authorized. I went to my bank to make out a fraud complaint against the company and found two other charges also 19.95 a month for 7 months by a company named Valuemax.I called Valuemax and they told me they got my card number from Intelius. Then the banker saw another charge by a company named Protectplus of 19.95 for 1 month. They told me Intelius gave them my numbers also. They said they would refund my full amount in 2 business days which they did. I also asked them to send me a confirmation email and they did. I tried to get Intelius on the phone. No answer.I made out a fraud complaint against them at my bank and I haven't heard from them or seen a penny of $200 they are trying to steal from me.So far it has been 4 days.I will post here to let you know when I suceed. So folks ALWAYS check your monthly bank statements.

I guess that I am in the same boat as you guys. I never order a subscription, but paid the cheap .90 for a lookup when there was discount. Now I have been entered into a 9.90 subscription for protection, a subscription for 19.95 for intellius look up and 19.95 for background check. I dont own a business and dont need to do background checks. I have had 2 pays of 19.95 taken out of my banking account within 8 days. I have gone to the site to cancel the membership but isnt even a link to cancel. No one answers the telephone or responds! The only thing I can do is close my account. Like some of you I am recently unemployed and these charges are killing my small savings.

This is confusing, are all the comments above directed to the company "Intelius" or "Intellius" It appears to me there are two different companies -- the one with the double L may be a scam using the similarity of name to the legit company to draw people in. Does anyone know for sure?

I've been charged 6 amounts by Intellius on my Kroger Master Card without permission since June 2008. I keep complaining to my credit card company about this trying to get all these charges off my credit card. I lost my job 3 months ago and I cannot keep getting these charges. Plus finance charges. This is ridiculous. The amounts are $49.95 (july 1), $4.95 (July 1), $19.95 (July 8), $19.95 (August 8), $19.95 (September 8), and $19.95 (October 8) for a total of $134.70. This has got to stop. If these charges are not removed from my credit card account, I will be contacting the State Attorney General's Office. I have been diagnosed with breast cancer and have been undergoing treatment for 10 months.

Intelius terrible experience

I requested enrollment in the Farmers Identity Shield thru my Farmers agent, Paul Volz [protected], Ashland Or. It is to be part of my homeowner policy [protected]. On August 22 2008 I rec'd a letter from Farmers giving me activation instructions. Today I tried following the instructions:

1.open internet browser window - www.myfarmersidentityshield.com,
2. enter user name (given in letter),
3.enter temp password (given in letter),
4. confirm acct profile,
5. follow quick steps to ensure identity,

At this point when I clicked on "continue" an error message appeared and I was instructed to call a phone number, which I did. At this point I was given a series of menus-none of which seemed to apply to my situation, therefore, I kept choosing #1. I was finally connected to a male employee who had no understanding of why I was calling, even after I tried explaining two times. He told me that if I wished to purchase a report I would need a credit card number. I again explained that I was doing a link to my homeowner policy therefore I did not believe I needed a credit card number. At this point he said he was going to transfer me to someone who might know about the Farmers program. I was on hold on my cell phone for 15 minutes before I hung up. I don't know if this is an isolated incident or if happens on a regular basis, but enrolling in the Farmers Identity Shield should not be this hard or frustrating.

I'm reading that this has been a problem for over 2 years? I've been trying to "On line register for FULL BENEFITS" for 45 minutes now and all it's gotten me is total frustration. Is this "Benefits" thing just a way to increase our premium or to make the package look better even though it doesn't exist? When I bought the policy I thought it was a great little added plus from Farmer's...but now I know it's just a joke!

I too have been trying to get on this site at which time I read the above complaint. I automatically called my Farmers agent and inquired about this service. I asked if I was being charged for this since the letter stated "Thank you for purchasing Farmers Identity Shield". My agent said it's a new service that just came out and it is a part of your homeowner's policy if your policy is over $30, 000. There's not supposed to be an additional charge and no one should be asking for a credit card number. She asked me to drop the letter by her office next week, which I will do and she is going to do a little investigation into this matter. As soon as I have more information I will gladly share it with all of you.

Intelius - cancel/close account

My order number is [protected]. I wish to close this account effective immediately. I was attempting to get information on my cell phone number. The information given me lists 2 people whom I have never hear of. My name is not included. Plus they both earn the exact same amount of money & their mortgages are for the same dollar amount. Could it be that they are fictious people. Again close my account. Thank you. Kevin.

Intelius unauthorized charges pmindentity.com $19.95

After paying for their search service, you will start to see a $19.95 charge each month from pmidentity.com even though you did not sign up for this service. The majority of Intelius revenue is coming from this hidden charge. This is a known scam exposed by TechCrunch.com:
http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/05/29/naveen-jains-intelius-prepares-to-go-public-how-much-of-their-revenue-is-a-scam/

This company is owned by the billionaire, Naveen Jain, who made his money from the controversial InfoSpace.com. That story is fully covered by the Seattle Times below:

Intelius bogus charges

First, a mysterious charge of 19.95. Then a credit for 19.95. Then ANOTHER charge for 19.95 then another credit. Then YET ANOTHER charge for 19.95. Result: three charges, two credits. This company--Intelius--will not stop until they wear out all of us--and we now number over a hundred. And to think they're owned by Equifax, who monitors our internet security! Beware of Intelius.

Intelius no refund

I purchased an online phone report from Intelius on 6/20/08 for a price of $4.96. When I received my receipt online, I was charged a total of $9.90. When I called Intelius customer service, I was told 3 times that the extra charge was an error of their online program. When I asked for my $4.94 back as it was Intelius's error, I was told that Intelius does not give refunds. I explained that if it was Intelius's error it would not be considered a refund. The customer service person repeated 3 more times that Intelius does not give refunds. I called Intelius back thinking I was dealing with an unhelpful person, but no, the second person repeated the same "no refund" line.

Intelius Inc is involved in a systematic consumer fraud. These guys sign you up (without your permission) for some protection plan and then start billing you $19.95 per month.

After I called then twice, they gave me reference numbers, promised to disable my account, and continued to charge my credit card. I am not only only person who has been fraudulently charged by these guys. If you search through google, I found hundreds of complaints by consumers who have been scammed in a very similar way.

Everyone reading this complaint needs to also file complaints through Better Business Bureau and Federal Trade Commission's Consumer Protection Agency. There should be Department of Justice enquiry against the CEO of this company and someone needs to go to jail.

Enough is enough.

I ordered a People Search Report in the amount of $1.95 and was subsequently signed up for a People Search Membership and my credit card was charged $19.95. I submitted a complaint online and was sent a link to cancel my membership. Once I did this there was a $19.95 credit that showed up on my account. wow, i checked my account that i use to charge for things. I check everyday this account for anything that could be wrong. I seen this pending today and acted on it in seconds.

INT*INTELIUS SB [protected] WAUS

They removed because it was pending. And usually works for anything trial that you were unaware of and is in pending status.

I read some people let stuff like this sit on their charge account for days and months.
What kind of dip wick brain would you have, to have a charge account, and be running around online charging stuff and you are not monitoring daily. You sound like you like to play russian roulette alot. I laughed my [censor] off when i heard you guys screaming fraud and i'm taking it to the US supreme court, ect. That is as funny as hell.

You all just got too much money... For real.
How about donating some bucks over in my direction. Plus you should really work for less money.. seriously. : )

I DID NOT authorize these charges, what gives these people the right to assume you
want a service, you didn't even ask for ? Visa cancelled the card, as the only way to
stop these people. Same thing happened on another account this month, some IDenity

Ditto here. Paid for a one time look up of a number with no intent to subscribe. $19.95 shows up on the cc bill. Intelius customer rep rudely refuses to refund. Guess what? Let them fight with Discover for a couple of months because I have officially disputed the charges. Discover rep said Intelius would have to provide computer records proving we clicked on that option. I asked the Discover rep a question. Since I am disputing the operating ethics of Intelius, even if Intelius does send a print out of an alleged computer audit trail, how does Discover know that Intelius hasn't falsified the portion of the file that purports to show I clicked on a subscription block? The Discover rep had no answer to that one. After all, if they are disreputable enough to falsify a subscription, how much would it bend their morals to edit the evidence they are being required to provide to Discover? Catch-22. If they provide such a document to Discover, it is my position that Intelius forged it. I may lose, but by God I'm going to make them work for their stolen money.

just got my credit card statement. Got this int*protect mntr svc for $19.95 and another charge for twenty4proplu107052847 in the amount of $24.95 that must be the same company because the posts i've just read mention it.

as i sit here writing them i am on hold (working up to 10 minutes) with int*protect mntr svc. my questins for them are: who are they, who authorized this charge because it certainly wasn't me, the full refund will happen when.

regardless i will be sending copies of my letter to the credit card company to my local consumer protection department of the district attorney, kansas secretary of state, and, of course, the ftc.

these two charges put me in an overlimit situation as well.

what i'd like to know is why governmental agencies wait to do anything about these kinds of companies when they've been given the information at least once. it's like our union stewards: only one complaint so they do nothing until, and if, they get a second complaint.

I am outraged, of course my mother told me I could find my bio dad at this website I read the terms and it said I would only be charged $1.95USD for my search, it did not say anything about signing up with them for a $19.95 subscription. I tried to call and was waiting for well over 20 minutes until I finally hung up. I called again and it continued to ring and no one ever picked up. I will be filing a dispute with my bank. I will make sure to watch out for scam bull S*@! like this from now on.

Called [protected] spoke to Brian. He was very rude. Told me I agreed to the 19.95 subscription on 3 different screens. Then went on to tell me that it was like going to a store and saying hoops I didn't mean to buy this. WTF?
I asked to speak to the supervisor and he said there is no reason to speak to her. After I told him I would report him to his supervisor he said he would connect me. After holding for a few minutes he comes back and says the charge will be removed.

Looked at my credit card statement and didn't know what the 19.95 charge was for or from. I put the credit card ID (I guess their phone number) in google and this was the first site that came up. That is pretty sad.
Someone need to teach these guys a lesson. How do I get this removed by THEM? Thanks.

Same happened to me on 07/16/2009. I never subscribed to Intelius service and INTELIUS SUBSCRIPTION [protected] WA was on my credit card bill, for $19.95. A dispute has been filed with Visa and a complaint to the BBB. I want all charges reversed and my information deleted from your records.

Intelius unauthorized charges

This company has been making unauthorized charges on my credit card. They harged my account numerous times, in Jan, April and June 2008 for a subscription service I did not order or authorize. Total loss $66.00. Intelius does not have customer service personel to respond to my omplaints, so I disputed the charges with my credit card company.
You may call Customer Service at [protected]
(Monday-Friday 6:30am - 4:30pm PST)

This company is a fraud and they are scamming the general public of most likely millions of dollars. Where is the US Attorney General? Shut down this company! File a class action lawsuit against INTELIUS.COM !

We found two charges from this company on our charge card in March 2008 that we did not authorize. Apparently there is something with this company going on that when the charges were put on, our credit card company put on a fraud alert and have temporarily shut down our card. So beware. This is supposed to be some kind of people information service, does background checks, etc. But I wouldn't use them.

Intelius.com has been charging my account 19.95 for the past 4 months when I never authorized them to charge anything. I have never even heard of intelius.com until I recently went thru my bank statement. Their supervisor refused to credit back the 4 months of charges even though they could clearly see that I had never accessed such an account. They're ripping customers off and taking our money without us even knowing about it. They've offered to credit back a month of the service, even though they've already taken $80 bucks from me without authorization. GRRRR! How do companies with unjust practices stay in business? Boycott Intelius.com and watch your bank statements for fraudulent charges near you!

It's January 2011 and this company is STILL doing this! I just canceled my credit card with Chase because of these people! I used them for a people search ONCE last year and apparently they've been charging me $19.95 a month Plus $.99 to see if my credit card was active. Thankfully this was caught within a month of them starting it!

I ordered one search and thought I was being billed $5.95. The search I did pay for was not helpful at all and I ended up locating the information I needed on my own using some local phone books/records. About a week later I noticed two charges on my bank statement for $19.95.

I called the customer service number and they indicated that one $19.95 charge was a package deal that allowed me to conduct 25 more searches and the other $19.95 charge was for an identity protection service. I did not realize I had signed up for either service and the customer service rep did indicate that they would drop my service and reimburse me these amounts. Although I was thankful that they responded and agreed to take care of this ASAP, I believe that their intent is to hope that you won't notice these additional fees and unknowingly sign-up for these package "deals".

It's hard to believe these people are still getting away with sharing your personal information with the whole world. Especially with identity theft so rampant. The fact that they still exist makes me wonder if they're not in league with the government.
Please Napolitano, SHUT THEM DOWN!

I did enroll in on service with this company and cancelled right after the information I wanted was found. They activated my account without my permission and have taken two more charges from my bank acccount. I don't know what to do. I hate to close the account, but if they do not credit back these latest two bogus charges I am going to do just that and report them to the Better Business Bureau. Their business practices are dishonest and misleading.

Intelius mix up on charges

I waited to speak to customer relations of company so long, I went to sleep, was 20 minutes and did not get response.
I recalled and waited another 20 minutes and did not get a response.
I was charged $57.90 for a report for persons address and phone number. was led to believe that I could get current address and phone number, although I already had address of person. I was charged $19.95 for report I asked for, then either by my misunderstanding or wording by company I was charged $57.90 for report I did not need.
Please refund $57.90 on my credit card am/ex was charged on 06/01/08.

I was charged twice 19.95 and 24.90 for a background check on myself. It was wrong and I was very disappointed and over charged. I tried to call and cancel my service also sent a cancel service request within 10 minutes of opening account, but have no verification. I just want my money back. :(

My complaint is that I have been charged for this service without being aware of having it. I want the current charge of 19.95 and previous ones removed from my account. I will go to BBB immediately if not done. I'm sure I am not the only one upset. Your service I used one time -never ordered anything and have been charged 19.95 for nothing... Its useless to call noone ever answers anytime. I have a good lawyer who'd love to take care of this for me.

Intelius fraud and scam!

I did an email search on intelius for $9.95. one month later I checked my credit card statement and there was the $9.95 charge from intelius and another charge for $19.95 from pmidentity (privacy maters) that is affiliated with intelius and was not authorized by me. I called them both up and they basically told me I was screwed because I approved these which I did not.

* I in turn called my credit card company and disputed both charges since I feel intelius was not fair and got a credit for both of these charges. *

they might give you a hard time but they will not argue with your credit card company or bank.

If you have this problem here are some numbers to complain.

Intelius wrong info

I received a mysterious phone call from a woman telling me my name and wifes name found in a wallet and that she had my cell and home phone #. Both Correct. she asked if we knew a certain person. I asked who she was but she said her name was not important. Bells started going off. I went to do a reverse phone number on white pages came up as a land line. I made a mistake here went to Intelius the info they gave me was totally bogus. Card was charged the $4.95 . (Bank will reverse if you complain) . Still pending . I tried to get into my now viable Intelius account and they had no record of it. I sent an email no replay They promised two coupons of $5.00 a piece in email of course no email no coupons rebate coupons. Finally today I called talked to Mark 11 asked for a refund he refunded the charge readily enough saying the service did not in fact give me the requested info. Verizon said it was a land line Intelius reported it as a cell phone. While on hold I cam upon this site and read they were also charging for a identity theft protection service I had supposedly clicked on. I did not. $19.95 a month. He said it was explained in the email I never got Spam filtered mail was checked through nothing there either. Besides per the system I did not exist. Mark 11 the rep there advised me of this I told him I did not want this charge and would not pay it and dispute it should it come on my account. Mark 11 advised I would not be charged. So In this case they at least paid lip service as to the fact that the $4.95 charge would be refunded and I would not be charged the identity theft service I had not asked for.The hold time was only 30 minutes . He asked if I wanted to close the account I informed him as yes, then called my bank to let them know of the ordeal. Advise do not come to this Site. 1. Any site that puts charges on your account without your prior knowledge is not a mistake but theft. the information is usually old or bogus by his own admission it could be two years old or so or just wrong if the number had been a prepaid cell or a new cell number.2. No way to trace but they charge you anyway. 3 no email confirmation sent at all. 4. no way to verify my information on line. bottom Line STAY AWAY. Tehy were pleasant to speak with but smiled and spoke positively to me to inform me that I had signed up for a monthly identity theft program to be billed monthly. contact BBB, Contact states attorney generals office. May not do anything to them but will add to a data base of complaints against them.

Intelius dont' waste your money

My experience is similar to other reviewers. I gave them a social security number, and they gave me a worthless report consisting mainly of people who happen to have a similar name to the person for whom I was searching.

I filled out their email form to register a complaint, but never received a response.

Another nice touch is that they will try to get you to sign up for some identity theft protection service, and they make this service look like its part of the registration process. It's not.

This was a complete waste of fifty dollars.
