It completely makes me sick to know that in the year 2010, our community is trying to make this a race issue when the real issue at hand is the education of the students in Huntsville. As an educator, I find it hard to understand the cutbacks of supplies and personal development funds, but we can provide an 800 dollar a month car allowance for the superintendent. As a tax paying citizen I do not have a problem with providing those perks to whomever the superintendent is AFTER the fact of the personal interests of students are taken care of. If the schools are having to come up with ways to cut back, what is central office doing to help in cutbacks? There were about 200 copies of the board meeting agenda handed out, and I just have to wonder who had to pay for those copies?
Teachers in the Huntsville City Schools have been asked to pay for copies out of their own pockets, yet we as a city can afford to offer an 800.00 a month car allowance. It has been proven by the school systems failing grades and the fact that Huntsville City Schools dropped from being number 2 on the list of quality schools in the entire state of Alabama down to the bottom of the list. It is painfully obvious that the superintendent AND the board should be held responsible for this decline. If the citizens of Huntsville want Dr. Moore and the board to stay in the positions they are in, then we should demand better results in providing the means necessary to the schools to help improve academics .I personally believe it is time to put into plan better improvements to ALL schools in the Huntsville, and we as citizens, educators, parents and administrators should hold accountability to the superintendent and the board and if no progress is shown within an appropriate time frame new board members and the superintendent should be replace with someone more capable of accomplishing our goals.
I firmly believe that hatred and racism is not a quality people are born with, it is learned and we as community have an obligation to teach our children that both hate and racism is wrong not matter what the situation is. So to sum up my true feelings about this whole situation I leave you with this… red, yellow, black, or white please keep the students of Huntsville in sight.

We as a community wonder why race is being the base of these issues, when we have board members themselves make public comments to the newspaper that the last meeting was a room full of white parents from South Huntsville... um NEWSFLASH Laurie McCaulley this is the year 2010.. it IS NOT about race... there are just as many white people that live on the north end of town as there are on the south end of town, there are also a large number of African American’s who attend school in south Huntsville and in private schools in Huntsville as well... you want to stop this from being a race issue, then put your money where your mouth is and STOP MAKING NEGATIVE COMMENTS. The ENTIRE board of education and DR. Ann should save the community more headaches and step down. Every single one of the board members AND the superintendent have contributed the quality of education and the failing standards we have in our school systems now.

Ignorance does NOT have a favorite skin color. What agenda are we teaching the children we supposedly care so much about when we make off color remarks about one side of the town or another?

all schools are cutting back...unfortunate but true. More then likely the car allowance is built in to his contract so they can not take it away. Here in Fort Wayne they are closing schools left and right. I am sure they are probably going to be doing that every where soon...
