I bought a Hoveround instead of a Jazzy because they spoke so much of their customer service. I have had my hoveround for a little over a year and the battery went dead. I have been trying to get someone from Hoveround to replace my battery for 5 days now, and no one has yet to come. Keep in mind that I cannot walk. I have had to have people come and bring me meals, help me to the restroom, etc. Hoveround said my insurance wasn't responding. I called my insurance co... Hoveround had never contacted them. So I called Hoveround back and explained that situation. They then said they were waiting for my dr. to return their call. So, I called my dr. You guessed it, Hoveround had never called them, either. So, I had my dr. call Hoveround. And I am still waiting. Not sure what the excuse will be tomorrow.

Sinse I am reading all those complains, I been doing some thinking. I have been emailing to comp. For a mobillity 4 wheel scooter. Even hoveround, I let them know I have medicare and medicaid. Since I read. That the where taken medicare. Not medicaid. When I filled out some forms. The let me know the where not taking medicare.. So I ask about other oppions, I let them know. I will not pay anything before I get the scooter delivered. And set up. Ready to go. And see if everything works alright.. When I pay in cash for the scooter... I never heard from hoveround again. So I emailed one more email to hoveround. That I believe hoveround is loaded with crooks. And I will not deal with crooks.

A lying, thieving company. Now they've made it impossible for the most legitimate, needy patients to get a chair. And much of the trouble was about scooters, not chairs! Do not ever believe a word they tell you about working with your doctor or Medicare. It won't happen.

This complaint stems from a eleven month relationship with a company called “hoveround” who appear to be in the business to fleece disabled people and their insurance company from many dollars.

Beginning in February 2013 after a complete summary being presented by my doctor, hoveround delivered a power chair without the proper leg support and the wrong cushion.

After considerable effort by placing many phone calls and being place on hold by various departments which were more than 4 I was `told that the problems would be corrected.

After waiting several week their service tech showed up with the correct leg support. Needless to say they billed me for the parts, which took another 3 weeks to correct

Several months later the control head failed while I was leaving a hospital, I called hoveround and was told even though i was stranded 26 miles from my home with a chair that would not move the bus driver with the public transit pushed me aboard the bus.

After several days a tech show`ed up at my home with the correct repair part, later i find out hoveround billed my insurance company for something that should have been under warranty.

Now just 1 month before the supposed warranty is to expire the batteries no longer hold a charge, I have placed the charger on my chair each and every night fully understanding the importance of daily charging so I called hoveround.
I was informed by hoveround that my deductable payment would be 169. 00. I check the original order for the chair, hoveround bill the batteries at 120. 00 total and the insurance company paid 83. 00 (Which represented payment in full) .

Between the complain blogs I have read and the various complaints of others i plan on publishing this statement of fact to warn other disabled folks to stay away from hoveround, I have been invited by the local news show to be a item on there “fraud exposed” segment.

On April 28th., of this year, I had a problem with my HOVEROUND, it wasn't until July 31st. that I got it repaired, no kidding, On Aug. 2nd., it went down again, and I am still fighting with them. I have had new batteries, motors, joy stick, controller, and since Aug. 2nd., the led lights go out. I was sent a new charger, so called supervisor said that was the problem, it isn't. I believe it is the controller, but I have been told by tech support anad scheduling that the tech can't be back here in Salt Lake until the 31 of Aug., totally not acceptable, I have spoken to manager's, supervisors at HOVEROUND, and gotten no where. I have documented every day I called, every person I have talked to, and wrote letters to Mr. Scott Lindsay, Teresa O'Connor, Andy DeGendice, all with management, and Mr. Lindsay seems to think he knows the problem, so he sent me a new charger, that's NOT the problem, so I will be calling HOVEROUND again this morning, and I am NOT happy at all with this company...Does anyone have suggestions for me, this is my only transportation, I don't have money for a cab, bus, flex trans, or to keep having people take me, especially to dialysis 3 times a week...thank you Bill...billhylerjr1953@yahoo.com

An elderly friend of mine got a Hoveround thinking it was Medicare approved. When I learned she had acquired this brand of scooter I was alarmed because I knew their history, not from posted complaints, but from a friend employed by a wheelchair repair company here in Richmond, VA. He told me that Hoveround was so known for shady practices and empty promises that he could not believe they weren’t done in by lawsuits. He is an ace bike mechanic and bicyclist & learning to repair wheelchairs on the fly came easily to him. He acquired experience with all the mechanics and all the brands. In short, he was appalled by the poor performance of the Hoverounds. It seems all the money they spend on advertising is enough to get them new, gullible and vulnerable customers. At any rate, my elderly friend was bamboozled by a slick salesman who is being evasive, and other calls to a Hoveround phone # have yielded no response. She’s used it 4 or 5 times, but the adjustments and fit are wrong. She's disgusted and wants it returned.

My mother can't walk due to Parkinson's disease, She went through the correct procedures for a hoveround chair. She was told medicare approved it ( or she would have never gotten it) and she added the lift seat so she could continue to cook, which she had to pay around 2000.00 more out of her pocket. Now almost a year later we find out medicare never approved it at all. They want the chair back, which is fine with her, but only if she gets her money back. Now we have to find something else for her to get around in. They are scam artist stay away from them.

I cannot walk I depend on my Hoveround my charge cord will not charge my chair anymore therefore I cannot use my chair. I called Hoveround they told me Medicare has not paid them for the chair so they told me they will not come out and fix it until they get paid. I called another company to see if they could fix it they told me that Hoveround will not sell them any parts and they are not allowed to work on a Hoveround without their permission. Here I am disable cannot walk my chair is my only mobility and because of Medicare and Hoveround I cannot get around until this is all resolved. My 5 years is up in March 2014 I will never buy or recommend to anyone a Hoveround again stay away from these people.

We, the consumers, have to accept the following premise: that NONE OF THESE COMPANIES will have a 100% approval rating from the public. That is a fact of life. So do we then go with the companies having the FEWEST COMPLAINTS? Somehow, that seems no more reassuring than the alleged borrowed promises that ALL these companies have been accused of making. I cannot imagine ANY of these power chair/scooter shops etc NOT ANSWERING these complaints publicly as they were posted. So what do I do now? I too am crippled to the point that I can no longer walk and so am dependent on the concept of the power chair or scooter. Customer service is the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF ALL, running neck in neck with QUALITY, whether it be power chair, automobile or television... without these two components we the public have no safety net, we have NO RECOURSE... so what is it to be for any us, , , for me? The companies with the fewest complaints, or my gut? Either way, it appears to be a crap shoot. This is NOT AN ACCEPTABLE situation for we, the lay public who are truly handicapped! I challenge these companies to take the time and effort to research these UNANSWERED COMPLAINTS and BRAVELY ANSWER THEM, ALL and when at fault admit it and move on promising in writing that they will do better. In the meantime, I am left without a compass and truly (putting it into the vernacular) THIS SUCKS!

I can not recommend Hoveround. I called them for assistance up coming with medicare for 2012 and they were no help what so ever. I called the Scooter store and they bent over backwards to get me started thru the process and initiated a 3 way phone conversation with my Orthopedic surgeon's office..All is well now thanks to them...Absolutely no help form Hoveround.
