It's been my experience that HOB is, as a whole, a money-grubbing, cookie-cutter and usually an all round unpleasant music venue. Unfortunately, HOB hosts many of my favorite bands. The bands seem to love the place. Positive band comments I've heard are: no problems with money or ticket sales, easy load in and out, state of the art sound and stage. Recently, HOB Atlantic City canceled a good band for "schedule conflict", but the truth seems to be more like poor advanced ticket sales. I hope that band gets a clue and stops booking with them.
I agree with Erik, they don't practice what they preach. Drinks are ridiculously overpriced, food is expensive and really not good. You are promised that if you eat in the restaurant, you get in the front of the line. That only happens under certain circumstances. They oversell if they possibly can, and I don't know why fire departments allow this. Parking prices are jacked up as well. Security and staff are rude and impatient. It's too bad these corporate SOBs at HOB have a corner on the market. I can't say I won't go again. I can say that I'll go, but I'll be complaining.
A good concert venue? Try the Pageant in St. Louis.
