My husband and I purchased Homeland health care. Once I received the policy I realized it was not good. I immediately told my husband and he went on internet and found this site. I was horrified after reading all the problem everyone was having in getting their money back.
I spoke to homeland and they told me to fill out the complaint for and mail the policy back and they would mail back the premium. I did mail it back as a return receipt mail. Once I received the receipt I gave them a few days for processing and call the office. I spoke to a person by the name of Nicole and she told me that I did not write that I wanted a refund. I told her no where on the paper did it state that I had to write that. That I was canceling this policy and I expected my refund of $328.00. She stated it should have been written in the comment area. Again I stated that the form was filled out accurately and the information was understood if a policy is canceled. She then began to explain it would have to go in front of a board and they would make a decision. When I asked how long this would take she said she did not know. Once I got off the phone with her I called the Attorney General of NC, they referred me to the NC Insurance Bureau. He explain that Homeland is an underwriter for Insurance Companies. He said he would send me a form to fill out and then see what he could do. I then called back Homeland and pushed buttons until I got the operator. Who could not tell me what Insurance Company the wrote for but she would get someone who could answer that question. She put Jim on and I asked him what Company they wrote for and he looked up my policy and told me Markel Insurance was the company and that he could release my money the next day. I really doubted that he would do that but I waited and sure enough a few days later I had a deposit back into my account. I should mention that I made copies of the policy and cancellation form so I would be able to refer back to it is I needed to. I also canceled my credit/debit card and asked the bank if I canceled this card can the company still deposit that money via the card back into my account. The can the back will have to physically write it in but it can be done. I canceled it because I did not want that company to possibly take more money out. I am telling you this so that maybe some of you would be able to get your money back if you try this in your state. They may not underwrite the same Insurance Company in all states but if you ask the that question the will know your not playing games with them. And I would even go further if the still don't give you a satisfactory answer and let them know that the Attorney General and Insurance bureau of your state will be contacted. I hope this helps. lchill

I too have put in a request for an insurance quote (thought I might get a couple calls not 50 and counting). After researching many of the people calling I felt that the only "legitamate" one was a company out of GA called NBLA. I talked with several people who had varying degrees of success in getting their claims paid. Their website was upfront (mynbla.com) and the representative (Beth 866.953.5783) was the least pushy of all the calls. i received. She actually told me that she wasn't comfortable selling me the policy until I made sure my cobra was in fact ending. When I told her I was considering 2 other providers she help me by giving me their websites not bad mouthing them. These were homeland (homeland4one.com) and patriot health (healthoptionone.com). She did say that hers was the best but that if I went with them after seeing the info they provided she would respect my decision. I made several more phone calls to Homeland and Patriot Health without letting them know I was on their website. They were completely and totally dishonest with me about their respective levels of coverage. When I asked Patriot Health (Gary was his name) why the website said something else he hung up on me and would not take my calls anymore (RED FLAG) At least the homeland rep (Michael I think) tried to make up some B.S. about the website not being up to date. Both Homeland and NBLA accepted creditable coverage so I wouldn't have to wait 12 months to get my knee covered (needs to have some work done). I had been denied by most major meds and had to take a "limited benifit policy" so I took the plunge with the NBLA because of the non-pushy approach the NBLA rep (Beth) took. I also could not find any recent complaints (within the last 18 months) online.

I received the policy and it was EXACTLY what I was told it would be. My doctor does accept the discount and was paid. (he did say it took a little longer than he liked but he would still accept it) I cannot speak for any other experiences that others might have with them but I think anyone reading this and still needing coverage should call Beth @ 866.953.5783 and give this company a look. I will update you if anything changes about my opinion.

I will post this on the other boards as well.
