Hapkido USA Unjust contracts and hostile environment t

Horrible contracts! And very hostile and unstable environment. A true testament to a
School that gives Martial Arts a bad name! Money hungry- not worried about the children or families. You are not a customer/ you are a prisoner!

Having signed a number of contracts with them, I have not had a problem. A contract means a commitment! There is always a meeting to discuss what you're signing up for and it is there in front of you to read. Also, the class schedule is spelled out. If you choose the next level (black belt club) for just a bit more, you can go any day that you want. That's what I do, so in summer I just add a Thursday instead of going on Friday. It's still cheaper than most of the other activities my kids do - gymnastics ($$$), guitar lessons, piano lessons, select sports, etc. Any of those clubs have annual registration fees and special event additional fees. It's a great bang for your buck. When you sign up for a mobile phone or cable you sign a contract and no one realistically expects to just get out of those for free; I don't see why this is any different. It's just that they are people you get to know, so it's easy to think that they should cut you a break. But they are people, too. As far as upset customers go, I have just seen the same one repeatedly. If you want the best training available, you're going to have to pay something for it. If not, go to the YMCA (well, I think they have contracts too) or some community center.

If the contract was so horrible, one must wonder why you signed it. Testing fees and yearly kwan dues are not part of the contract. Testing is a privilege. It is voluntary. All martial art associations have yearly member fees. You are not obligated to join the international association. There are many testimonials on the net for this school which do not substantiate your allegations.

found it interesting people protesting with signs as I was driving through Wentzville last night (05/01), another upset customer. Really sad FOR the kids since this is what it should be about!

cannot agree more with you! I thought I was the ONLY one with those feelings. I feel nothing but ANXIETY each time I go there. What will it be this time? More money for the belt test that was noted free, annual $49 membership fees not noted in the contract, more stipulations that are ridicilous? THIS is the biggest nightmare I've been in with a recreational facility! HARD lesson LEARNED!

Hapkido USA Unfair contract and hostile environment

After one-year of a 2 year contract- my whole family quit due to a very hostile training/school environment and defamation of myself and family unjustly. I was a very dedicated student- went every night they were open and as a woman it was impossible to train due to the hostile environment generated by the operations manager and owner.

My son and I have been part of the Hapkido USA family for three years now and we have had nothing but positive experiences. The headquarters school is working hard to maintain quality standards and train students both physically and mentally. I think that all the staff are extremely respectful. As a promoter of integrity, it is understandable that the school would expect folks to live up to signed agreements and would defend themselves when students do not act accordingly. The school has a very high standard for personal conduct and if students are displaying unbecoming behavior, it will be addressed. I think that we students must always humble ourselves and be teachable so as not to offend those who are working hard on our behalf.

Many other students and I eventually left because of the God complex of the black belts and Ms Tracy and Grandmaster Rhoades. It starts out great and they welcome you into their "family" but once you really start getting in there, watch out. Oh and if you stand up for yourself or make GM Rhoades or Tracy or one of the black belts mad, prepare for a beat down. We almost filed criminal charges. It was like a mafia. Stay away.

I have been dealing with Hapkido USA for over 10 years. During that time I have seen some very rude and inconsiderate people, but NEVER ONCE has that person been part of the Hapkido USA staff. I have watched my wild-child 6 year old become a respectful and responsible teenager in a world where those are few and far between greatly due to her Hapkido Training and the care given to her by Hapkido USA. Several students have started Hapkido while taking prescribed medications for ADD, ADHD and other issues. On more than one occasion, I have witness the turnaround in that child and spoke with the parents who were bragging about their child being off the medications because of her (or his) training. Grandmaster Rhoades takes great pride in his school and in his students. People want to pay less through the summer because there are no Friday classes, but I have yet to see one parent offer to pay extra when their child is unruly at school or home and Grandmaster Rhoades uses his time to discuss the childs behavior with a one-on-one consultation. If your child being unruly and/or medicated is more important to you than fulfilling a financial obligation that you WILLINGLY signed up for, write your complaints... whine as much as you need to... but in the end, it is YOUR child that will pay the consequences. HAPKIDO IS A LIFESTYLE... NOT a summercamp!

Having dealt with Hapkido USA for the past almost 7 years I'd have to question what planet you've been residing on. I've never had anything but positive interaction with both the people who run the dojong and the students. Maybe if people would start living up to their commitments when they sign a contract they would not have to experience mean old people trying to get their money. Bottom line...boo hoo poor me...now shut up, pay up, and suck it up. It's easy to bad mouth someone who isnt there to defend themselves...

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE AND DO HAVE THE SAME SITUATION BUT I WON'T GO INTO DEEP DETAIL. THE OWNER IS VERY VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL AND MISS TRACY IS THE SAME. FOR TEACHING "RESPECT", THEY MUST LEARN IT AS WELL. INSTEAD OF IT BEING A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT, IT HAS NOTHING BUT BEAT UP MY SON INTO FEELING QUITE INFERIOR.

This compant tricked us into a one year contract and we paid for three days per week and they stopped doing fridays over the summer but thought we still needed to pay the same amount. They are in the business of sueing everyone they can even though they are not out anything if someone quits.
