Hampton, Inn / Reservations

We had guests coming into town to stay with us. Both my wife and I became ill and, not wanting them to catch our bug, decided to put them up in a motel at our expense. The morning they were to arrive, I called Hampton Inn and made a reservation for that night for them using my credit card. As soon as the reservation was made, they told me that either the guest would actually have to pay with their own card, or I would have to physically come in to the motel and pay, or I would have to send them a fax. Because of sickness and other reasons, there was no way we could deal with a trip to the motel or a fax. I then said that, in that case, I did not want the reservation. I was told they had already confirmed it and because it was less than 24 hours notice, they would not cancel the reservation. I pointed out that I had asked for the reservation less than two minutes ago in the same call and had not been told they would not accept my card until about 60 seconds ago. They were adamant that I made the reservation and I would have to pay for it, period. I then asked to speak to a supervisor They refused to honor that request. After taking a LOT of my time calling various people, the local motel reluctantly agreed to cancel the reservation without charge. Needless to say, I will never do business with Hampton Inn.

    I don't see a problem here. You made a reservation on short notice, but were unwilling to make an attempt to follow standard hotel procedures. They agreed to refund a reservation even though they didn't have to. The end.

    Good customer service requires both parties to be flexible. I feel like some people forget this.
