Halo Chihuahuas located in Missouri, while in good standing with the AKC should not be. I first contacted Kristen Blackwell on Nov. 5, 2016 after finding a little female on puppyfind.com. After about a week of emailing, I tried to arrange to view the puppy in person, to ascertain whether or not it was the same puppy pictured online. She said that because she was pregnant, and did not know me, we would have to meet at another location in town, and not at the kennel. RED FLAG! When I said as much, she said that the puppy wasn't available anymore, and I should check back in 4-5 weeks when another litter was due.
Today, Dec. 9, 2016 she had two females listed if I was interested. When I said that I was, and inquired about a deposit so that I could come look at her, suddenly she remembered my email from before, but not the part about my interest in a full registration, and not the "limited" registration she pimps on all other clients.
BEWARE of this breeder! She charges exorbitant fees and then tries to refuse a full registration for your puppy. NEWS FLASH, What I do with my dog after she is out of your possession, ie purchased, is none of your business!

Just an update on the beautiful puppy I purchased from Kristen Blackwell. My little Gracie is 6 months old now and is the most playful, lovable, and sweetest dog I have ever had. She fit right in with my Bichon, and I have kept in contact with Kristen to let her know her puppy is loved. She has been most gracious with my numerous pictures and emails that I am constantly sending her of Gracie. I most definitely would recommend her to everyone if they were looking for a quality Chihuahua. Thank you once again Kristen for the love of my life.

Another update on the Angel that Kristen sent me. Gracie is the most beautiful and funny puppy I have ever had the pleasure of owning and will get another Chihuahua from Kristen in the future. I send her picture and still communicate with her and she always responds and is thankful her pup went to a great home. You can't go wrong with getting a puppy from her.

I went to Kristen for my new puppy, and she was just wonderful to work with. She answered all my questions and was very nice and answered all my emails, and really kept my puppy up to date on all shots and when I got my new girl, she was just perfect. I would recommend her to everyone. The puppy I got is so loving and the vet said she was perfect. If you're looking for someone that really cares about the quality of what they are producing, Kristen is the one for you. Thank You Kristen.

I bought a dog from Kristin this past year and I am extremely pleased with how the whole experience went, and he is the BEST DOG. He had a slight skin issue that developed just after I inquired about him, and Kristin was very thorough about making sure it was treated and getting better before she let him come home with me. She was very responsive to all my communications and sent me all the pictures and information I requested. This is my gorgeous boy.

I purchased a French Bulldog and am in the middle of dog pandemic HELL
Kristen sent me a dog with kennel cough, corona virus, mycoplasma, & coccidia, diagnosed by PCR he was in poor condition, I have spent over 7, 000 in one week and it’s still going up I have pending appointments and puppy buyers sending me bills, I’ve never experienced anything like this! I am a fellow breeder and Kristen knew that, she knew I had puppies and she has single handedly derailed not just my lovely home but my best friends. I have proof in her own words not only does her vet not like “sick” dogs in her clinic so she didn’t run tests, puppies of hers died, uh excuse me? She sent a whopping 500 for buzz then tried to deny the problem was from her. If I could wish the worst possible pain on someone it would be her, for this, she is unethical, horrible and I’m hiring a lawyer! Stay as far from this woman as possible! MoKan should be contagion Bulldogs this is a puppy mill dressed up as a sweet mom in a little house. I was totally fooled.

Andrea Beach has turned out to be the nightmare client all of us breeders pray we never deal with. Yes, I did have a cough with my dogs, and I never denied that, because I am a very honest person. I did tell her about it when we talked for several hours on the phone weeks prior to her getting him, as we discussed this possibly being why he had developed the ear hematoma, but I told her he had already had it and had been over it for a long time. He had a cough at 9-10 wks old(first part of October), it lasted about 5-7 days, nothing major AT ALL, he had ear surgery on 11/25 to repair the hematoma, as it was not resolving on it's own. My vet would never do surgery on a sick animal, he was in good health on 11/25. He was given antibiotics for 2 wks after surgery for his ear, and did just fine. He didn't like being by himself, as he had to be kept away from my other dogs to allow his ear to heal. He was by himself from about 11/15 up until he left early morning of 12/14, he wasn't with any other dogs that entire time. He got his health certificate and was seen by my vet on 12/11(again, in good health), and I sent her 4-5 videos of him on the night of 12/10. He was NOT sick when he left my care. I met her friend at 4 am 90 minutes from my home to take her back to the airport with Buzz. He was in transit until that evening, so had at least 12 hours in a small carrier with only break being a layover in Chicago. She messaged me that evening and said he had blood in his stool, and I explained it was most likely from stress of the trip, and possibly being dehydrated, but keep me posted. I was sent a video two days later that Buzz was doing great and he was playing with her friends two pups and son. Andrea's friend, who also raises dogs & works for a vet clinic, had Buzz from 4 am on 12/14 until the evening of 12/23, Andrea picked up Buzz from her friend on 12/23 and messaged me and said he had explosive stools and didn't look good, I suggested he must be really stressed, and I would give him chicken and rice until his stools cleared up. She did a fecal on him the next day and said he had Coccidia, I profusely apologized, but she proceeded to go off on me about it, even though Coccidia is extremely common in stressed animals, I told her I would pay for his Coccidia treatment without hesitation. The $500 I sent was more than what I saw in vet bills for the Coccidia. Next, she is messaging me on Christmas Day(12 DAYS AFTER he left me) and says he is coughing and has a snotty nose, of course she is in panic mode, because he was not kept from her other dogs, and she is afraid they are all going to get it(she has a lot of puppies at the time). I told her I did not see any way that he would be ill with an upper respiratory illness from here, because he had a cough at 9 wks and is now 19 wks old, they are immune to the SAME illness for 6-12 months once they have had it, however, it is very possible he came across a new pathogen from her friend who is also a breeder and works at a vet clinic. There are many different bacteria and viruses that can cause a cough, just like in humans. I spoke with my vet, and my vet said with him showing no signs of illness from 9-10 wks old until the day he left (approx. 8+ wks later), it is most likely that he picked up something new and unfortunately got sick due to stress of flying and 2 new homes in less than 2 wks time. He had a LOT of stress in a little time, climate change(MO to CA), and was around a lot of other dogs, and she is claiming there is absolutely no way he did not arrive to her with this illness. Our contract, which we both signed, states that he is to be seen by a licensed vet within 3 business days and I would give her a full refund if there were any major issues. Buzz was not seen by a vet, until day 10. If I sent her a super sick dog, why would she wait 10 days to take him to a vet or why would her friend not take him, if she works for a vet? Andrea owes me 3 breedings to this male and she has told me she will NOT be sending me semen from him, unless I pay all of her vet bills on all of her dogs(over 7, 000, SO FAR). I offered to buy Buzz back and give her a full refund, of which she refused and claims he came from "HELL", and she would never send him back to me, further she has called me all kinds of names and said she will turn me into PETA, USDA, and use any other source she can use to take me down, telling me I better have good insurance, because she is coming after me. She is NOT asking me to pay Buzz's vet bills, she is asking me to pay ALL of her vet bills on her dogs & pups she has sold. Yes, I told her I have had illnesses here from other breeders, I've been breeding dogs over 20 yrs & unfortunately, you will have issues when you bring in new stock, etc, it is the risk I knew I was taking, I never have blamed anyone else or asked anyone to pay any of my vet bills, ever. I have talked to Andrea for God knows how many hours, and have hundreds of messages from her, and she is taking one message I sent, without including any other details. Our family had Covid over Christmas, and I was not feeling well at all, but I still talked to her for hours into the wee hours of the morning. I tried to talk through this with Andrea, she refuses to come up with a reasonable solution. She won't send my dog back, and the only solution she has is for me to pay her vet bills on all of her dogs, and she keeps the dog. Anyone who knows me knows that I put my dogs first, and always do my best to make sure I treat people right, but Andrea is not being reasonable at all, and now is threatening me. She has already told other breeders about this situation and having another breeder message me cussing me out. I have remained respectful towards Andrea, and she has cussed me out, and now calling me a puppy mill. I knew when she insulted my dog very early on to try to get me to take less that I should not deal with her, she claimed she couldn't afford my asking price & gave me a sob story about her families hardships, but then went and bought 3 more Frenchie pups shortly after buying mine. I didn't follow my gut, and now she won't send him back to me and is going to try to ruin my reputation. This has turned into a complete nightmare, and of course she insisted I sign his papers over to her, because she doesn't trust co-ownerships, go figure.

If I ever purchase another chihuahua, I would definitely consider this breeder. When I inquired about one of her puppies quite some time ago, Kristen was readily available to answer my questions and it was apparent she is committed to placing her puppies in quality homes. Spay neuter contracts are further proof of how she puts the puppy’s needs first. Thanks Kristen!

I also have dog from Kristin. She is truly a gem. Beautiful with a big personality and very lovey. Kristin was extremely accommodating and very pleasant to deal with. I don’t have a negative thing to say about her.

I also have a chihuahua from Kristin. When we purchased her, she made an exception and let us into her home, there was clearly nothing wrong there. She’s selective with buyers which is great! She definitely wanted to make sure the puppy was going to a good home and even went out of her way to send extra videos of the puppy before the purchase. Our Clover has an amazing temperament, personality, and is so smart. We couldn’t ask for a better dog or a better buying experience.

I purchased a chihuahua puppy from Kristen Blackwell and couldn't be any happier. She interviewed me like I was applying for a job with the FBI. I was wondering if I was even qualified to own a dog. That just meant she cared about the well being of the puppy and wasn't just trying to sell a dog. She was very honest and forthright about the whole process. I would definitely recommend her chihuahuas, they are champions. My little "Owen" is the best dog I have ever cared for. He is show quality material.

Big thank you to everybody who took the time to write a nice review for me. Unfortunately, people do not like to be told "no", and Susan Karns(Powley, not sure which is her real name) of Arkansas is no exception. She wanted to place a deposit on a 5 week old female that was looking too small for breeding and I explained to her I would not allow full registration, without first seeing if she was going to breeding quality and breeding size, at which time she would then have to be approved for full registration. I also told her the puppy was not yet available, so I was just showing her the puppy, until she was older. She just did not want me to tell her what she could or could not do. I have many wonderful clients all over the U.S., and I am happy that I dodged a bullet with this lady.

I have two from Kristen. She is selective and if you didn’t make the cut it’s not her fault.

Kristen Blackwell IS AN EXEMPLARY BREEDER. She is honest, courteous, accommodating and truly cares for her puppies. Finding the right home for them is one of her top priorities and that speaks volumes. We were able to bring home our new family member a few weeks ago and she made sure every step of the way went smoothly. Our puppy is sweet, vibrant, playful, energetic, healthy, top quality and very smart.

My wife bought our chi from this breeder and had nothing but good to say about her. She is very careful about the environment she is letting the dogs go to, and that is great. The quality of our pup is just unbelievable! She is the happiest creature on earth. And physically she is amazing. My wife searched for a long time to find a breeder like Halo Chihuahuas. We are definitely happy with her. Good on the breeder for being selective when finding homes for her dogs.

RED FLAG TO THE BUYER! I agree with the comments from above. Kristen Blackwell is a reputable breeder. I purchased a puppy from her recently. She was very easy to work with, answered all my questions and also wanted to know about me and my family as she cares where her puppies are going. This is what NORMAL GOOD Breeders do. They question and pick where their puppies go. If it was just for the money she would sell to anyone. Also, limited the registration also controls the possibility of people who want to become backyard breeders by buying 2 dogs are mating them. And Breeders should also pick who gets to come over to their house. There are weird people out there!

Kristen Blackwell is the only breeder that I trust! She is amazing in every way, and it is very rare to find someone like her. She is not only so sweet and overly accommodating, but holds a very high bar for every person she lets have one of her puppies.

To date, I have bought five show-quality Chihuahuas from Kristin, as pets with the limited registration. They are exceptionally-beautiful and happy Chihuahuas, and their temperament is wonderful and very well-balanced.

I am 100% in agreement with the post above from Lara. Finding good homes is a huge responsibility when you are a over-the-top, caring, amazing breeder like Kristen. At Halo Chihuahuas, I can promise you that there simply are NO "RED FLAGS"... Kristin is as honest as anyone person can be!

Thank you Kristen, for not letting that woman have one of your precious puppies! You dodged a bullet. She sounds like she would just beat it, if she wanted too. I wish that there were more breeders like you, because that woman shouldn't own a dog.

Thanks for listening... here's a few snapshots of my babies! ~ Kim

The red flag is puppy buyers like this! Reputable breeders place pet puppies on spay/neuter contracts with limited registration. It takes a ton of commitment and expertise to to responsibly breed dogs, especially tiny ones. Also, not every dog is breeding quality. Furthermore, breeders have a huge responsibility to find the best homes for the puppies that they bring into this world. If someone had the abrasive attitude of this person and the "I'll do whatever I want with the dog once it's mine", they would NEVER get one of my babies. So I'm sure that the breeder did remember their e-mail and then refuse to sell them a puppy, I would have too! And lastly, in this day and age, it's not safe to have an influx of strangers in your home, especially if you're pregnant or have young children. I've heard of so many tragic situations that could have been prevented.
