Guardsman Service request

Contacted Guardsman to repair a table under warranty...gave them everything. Reciept from two years ago, paperwork from the table. Was asked what the damage was before they denied me saying I did not get it to them within 5 business days of the occurance...WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? It's broke was broken 30 days ago and is under warranty. Don't get furniture protection. It is a scam!

If you ever buy furniture at a store & the salesperson pushes you to buy a "5 yr Protection Plan" from a company called "Guardsman Furniture Protection"...Don't do it. It's worthless. They're an unethical organization & the only "guarantee" you'll get is that they will deny your claim. In an attempt to protect my purchase, I fell for this scam & I'd hate to see one of my friends become another one of their victims. We purchased our "Guardian Protection Plan" at an Ashley Furniture Store. Apparently, we're not the only ones. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/guardian_protection.html
Whoever runs this company should be indicted on fraud charges. They got us for $300.

Guardsman is in the business of denying claims. They're pretty good at it, too! I won't shop at a furniture store ever again that sells this product! I followed all the rules and denied because the cut didn't penetrate all the way through!

Guardsman Warranty

I purchased the Guardsman Elite Furniture Protection Plan for close to $400 to warranty the lawn furniture. I thought I was buying peace of mind. WHAT A MISTAKE! I called on a tear in the welding along the leg of a chair. It states in the warranty that I am protected if the " chair weld breaks apart". After days and days of waiting and paperwork back and forth, I received a form letter that said that MY chair weld break was not covered because it was a manufacturer defect. I asked how did they determine that it was a manufacturer defect because basically anything that could happen to my lawn furniture could possibly be qualified as a manufacturer defect...if they try hard enough.
The service rep just kept repeating the warranty rules, never answered my direct questions, would not give me the CEO's name or adress and eventually just hung up the phone.
I would NEVER RECOMMEND GUARDSMAN TO ANYONE!

I’m writing you to convey my complete dissatisfaction with your services and my intend moving forward. I foolishly purchased an insurance policy from Guardsmen from Ashley Furniture back in 2013. I recently attempted to file a claim for damage to two pieces of furniture. One claim was within 5 fives of the damage while another one was within 3 weeks. However, after sending all the applicable information to your corporate office I was informed that my claim was being denied do to the period of time between the damage and the claim. First, your representative that I spoke to by phone informed me personally that I had ten days from the time I made contact with your office to have the claim filed and sent to your corporate headquarters which I did. Second, it’s obvious that after my experience and after researching on Google experiences from other customers that you implement a commonly used tactic in dealing with your customers. You contract with these furniture outlets to push your product then systematically seek loop holes to deny claims. There are countless examples of angry customers on line expressing exactly what happen in my case. Your email sent back to me foolishly admits that there may be discrepancies in the policy that you provide and the product sold by the furniture outlets. How can there be gaps in the level of coverage provided if you are supposed to be on the same page? A couple of things first, when I purchased the policy nothing more than a receipt of the purchase and a pamphlet was provided to me outlining what sort of damage was covered. At no time was I provided and any correspondence of the specific protocol in filing a claim. Honestly do you really think if I was provided anything I couldn’t have easily just moved the time of damage to meet your criteria? If I felt I was going to get any sort of push back from Guardsmen how difficult would that have that been? Really how could of you validated that? But the fact of the matter is that neither Ashley nor Guardsmen ever provided any explanation of the services provided or how to file a claim which appears to be intentional by design. They just took my money like countless other people and moved on. Therefore, I intend to do the following first, I will file a complaint with the BBB. Second, I intend to write the CEO of Ashley furniture about my experience I’m sure this won’t be the first time they have received a complaint about Guardsmen. Hopefully they will realize that by pushing your product they are ultimately damaging there reputation. Third, I will write a letter to the following parties my State Senator, my State Congressmen, my US Senator, and my US Congressmen. I will advise them of your practices and provide them with the links that I have located on line describing similar issues with your service from customer like myself. Finally, any and every opportunity I have to share my experience with your fraudulent services I will. I truly hope that I cost you 20 times in future sales what I paid for your BS coverage.

I made a claim on April 20 2015 that I noticed my springs in the couch was broken under neat on April 16. I was told to take pictures and fill out a form. I have a really bad stigmatism, I made a mistake and put that I had noticed the damage on 3/16/15 instead of 4/16/2015 and was denied. I explained this to them and they still want honor my warranty. Someone really need to do something about people that look to rip people off like Guardsman!

BUYERS BEWARE! Guardsman Warranty is a BIG SCAM!
Just got off the phone dealing with Guardsman Account Manager Michelle. She sounded like a robot...repeating the same s#~t. We noticed the remote on our mechanical beds was not working over the weekend...of course, couldn't get a hold of anybody. When we finally did, they denied our claim as the 5 business days has lapsed! We were one day late!
They will not honor the warranty. So now, we have to live with a bed in a reclining position or pay for the repair ourselves.

I purchase a 3k leather soda from havertys thinking I was getting quality and the sales man sold me on the protection plan. Well 3 years later one of the arms is broken "loose" I called the plan and followed there directions. Well today I found out that because I documented the word "loose" on the claim they denied the claim because they don't cover loose! Really! I tried to explain to the manager but they were so rude and just kept repeating the rules on loose! I am so disappointed and I will never buy from havertys again. The whole thing is a scam and havertys quality is no better than any other retailer.

Guardsman is pulling the same thing on me! Apparently they can tell from the pictures I sent them (2 rounds because they couldn't quite figure out the problem from the first 10 pictures I sent them) that the stains are old. What!?!? I can tell you the exact day my 4 year old made the stains! They're not old! They refused to budge. I told them to only come out and clean the stains they felt were "new". The supervisor, Pat, told me that they wouldn't clean the new stains because they were too close to the "old" stains. Therefore, they are refusing to clean ANY stain on my couch. Completely asinine! How do these people sleep at night? I'm not one to roll over though. I am going to take this up with Haverty's furniture (where I bought the scam of a plan), the Better Business Bureau, Angie's List, write corporate... This plan cost several hundred dollars and they are not holding up their end of the bargain.

I am working with Guardsman right now on a red wine spill on my sectional. They have been very kind and speedy on sending paperwork. I worked at a furniture store when I bought this sectional, and sold Guardsman on a daily basis. I feel very bad for all these people's bad experiences, but 90% of these complaints sound like they should be directed at the furniture store, not Guardsman. Guardsman is to protect against ACCIDENTAL damage only, excluding teeth, beaks or claws. If you're sitting down in a recliner and the frame breaks, chances are that wasn't your fault- the frame was faulty. Guardsman is for what YOU do to the furniture, to cover the gaps in manufacturers warranties. My customers were generally very happy with Guardsman, but that was because we as salespeople were honest about what it covered.

Same problem with me. I purchased a leather living room set from Haverty's in 2009 with the Guardsman Premium Protestion Plan. Now I have a issue with some deterioating fabric on my recliner. Guardsman's response, "We only handle damage caused by the owner. Not normal wear and tear". Typical! Just a way to skirt aeound coverage. The Haverty's salesman assured me that it COVERED EVERYTHING. Run away from Haverty's and Guardsman as fast as possible!

I have to add my 2 cents. I just finished dealing with Guardsman, and must say how impressed and pleased I am with their service.

About 2 months ago I punctured a hole with my stiletto heel in my leather couch, which I bought over 2 years ago, and insured with Guardsman. Once I noticed the hole, I immediately filed a claim with Guardsman (about a day after it happened). Two weeks later, I was contacted by a technician and scheduled repair appointment. He spent over an hour trying to fix it, but could not, and promised to escalate the claim to the next level. About 3 weeks went by, and I finally called Guardsman to check on the status. By that point I thought they were trying to let the claim die, slowly and quietly. Alas, I was wrong: Guardsman claims specialist told me that since they can't fix it, they can either send me a check for $450, and I can try to find a local tech to fix it. Or, they can replace the couch with an identical new one. I picked the second option, of course. 3 days later, furniture store delivered a brand new couch.

Like any other insurance policy, in order to get it to work, we have to follow the guidelines exactly, and then the company would not be able to deny us.

I woud recommend Guardsman anytime.

Guardsman Warranty

Company will do anything and everything to not fulfill warranty proection. Worst money I ever spent. Do not buy!
They make you submit all kinds of paper work and after a few phone calls where I had to repeatedly describe the incident, I used the word 'scratch' to describe a tear that did not fully go through the sofa fabric, they said 'they do not cover tears'. I could almost hear the 'aha' as they waited for a word or description that they do not cover.
Sold by LaZBoy (actually encouraged) as full coverage if you rip, tear. burn, poke...but is completely false.
I thought I was being proactive reporting the tear before it became a bigger problem, but now, if it does open up, it will be classified as 'wear' and is not covered.

Wow I cannot believe all of the other people who were also screwed by Guardsman. I thought I was alone with how horrible this company is. I've had several claims denied for one reason or another but yet when you're being sold the protection plan, you're told "ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING" is covered. DO NOT fall for this scam. They will most definitely find a way to get out of covering your claim. I found a tear in a cushion down behind where you would find your missing remote, so I filed a claim. It was DENIED because the tear was less an inch from a seam! Really? I don't even know when or how the tear got there. You would think it was an accidental tear and it should be covered. Another time my son peed on the couch. I filed a claim as human urine is covered. The claim was DENIED as the spot was considered an odor, not a stain. Apparently, odor is not covered under the warranty. They didn't even steam clean the spot because the couch was dark brown and they couldn't actually see it. Bottom line is, GUARDSMAN sucks!

I wish I had read all of these reviews prior to purchasing their warranty plan. I purchased the plan for all of my new furniture, which I was told covered everything and was the "Gold" standard and they cover EVERYTHING, and don't deny any claims. I purchased the plan from Sears in Toronto Canada. After submitting all of the documentation, and follow up calls from them to ask hundreds of questions, they told me that the claim was denied because if I read the fine print then PARALLEL seam rips are excluded. What a waste of time and money.

WARRANTY SCAM
Guardsman
PO Box 88010
Grand Rapids MI [protected]

Complaint Description:
They denied claim because they say paper work was not submitted n a timely fashion. So they say they have no obligation to stand up to their warranty. Purchased Guardsman warranty from Garden White furniture on on 5/19/09. The framework n the chairs i purchased on 5/19/2009 began to break and crack. I called Gardner White and the said to contact Guardsman Service Center.I contacted service center on 9/23/13 in which they promptly sent me a email to file claim. The email text body said you have two methods to complete form, electronically or by mail. The sugget in bold to complete electronically for fastest service. I completed and retuned form to there exact specification on 10/28/13 to exact specification. I heard nothing from them so i emails on 10/25/13 and never recieved return respone. I called and spoke to representive and he informed me that a hard copy has to be mailed and submitted with electronic claim. The representitive then sent me email a new set of forms on 12/23/13. I completed the the forms on 12/25/13 and mailed to the Guardsman address in Grand Rapids michigan. I recieved an email on 1/14/14 stating that they recieved my claim. I recieved a call today from Montgonery stating that they would not be honoring warrenty becasue it was not submitted in a timely fashion. When i asked to talk to a supervisor i talked to Denise who also said clains were not submitted in a timely fashion and they would not honor their warranty. I said i had saved all emails documenting communication. She told me that did not matter becasue they did not have any record of them. No i am stuck with a warreanty i paid for and a company that wont honor it. As a result i have 6 chairs that have broken frame work and are not usable

Report Guardsman to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) to protect us consumers.
I reported a claim after 20 days. Prior to that i already called Ashley Furniture where i bought the furniture, they told me to call Guardsman and have the policy number ready. I do not have the poicy, so we tried to look for it first. It was during the holidays on December so we were busy. When we finally had time to look for the policy we called Guardsman and they gave us a form to fill out then we sent to them via mail in a P.O. Box.. And when tried to follow they said it was not honored and they sent me a letter saying so. When i asked them why? they said it should have been reported to them 5 days from time it was damaged. I said it was the holidays and we did not have our policy number at that time which Ashley said to have it handy.
Reporting a warranty should not be treated as an emergency wherein you have to call in immediately. And if the warranty is 5 years, the warrnaty provider should honor any claim as long as it is still in the 5 year period. Now if it is an insurance policy maybe, but I have an experience with the insurance that even after the incident was reported after 7 days they still honored my claim, I love Liberty Mutual.
Guardsman should really have its license to operate revoked or company be closed.
Report Guardsman to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) to protect us consumers. We will be heard, come join us if you had any issues with Guardsman © 2012 Valspar Corporation.

We purchased two recliner couches from JEROMES in September 2011 and paid an extra $200 for the oops warranty with GUARDSMAN. Our couch material is ripping and padding coming out and we have two broken springs. GUARDSMAN says it's not covered on warranty and JEROMES won't cover it because it is over one year. I WILL NEVER BUY FROM JEROMES OR PAY FOR A GUARDSMAN WARRANTY AGAIN. Please be warned this will happen to you if you bu this.

My wife and I bought a new sofa from Haverty's in Lewisville, Texas back in summer of 2010. On September 12th, 2012 while turning the back cushions, something my wife and I do on a weekly basis, I found two tears. I called Guardsman by the next morning on the advice of Haverty's, mailed the paper work in way before the ten days. Just got a denial from Guradsman that read "Damages caused by defects in material or workmanship are not covered..." These are obvious tears caused by someone or something that we discovered within a week of the occurrence, no way a defect. Guradsman is a rip off, no better than the mafia and a protection racket - but customers get zero protection. DO NOT BUY their plans nor products.

Our experience is horrible. We bought furniture from Ethan Allen in Austin, Texas. They recommend buying the insurance because we had kids and it's was 20% of the total amount. A lot of money. We thought "Peace of Mind", but I didn't do my homework like I usually do. We called the first time and after spending days to get all the paperwork (it looks like filing a complaint is hard by design) a guy with a very young daughter arrived with a bag of tools. They spent the entire morning basically using markers. When they finished all the issues were not resolved. Since we were moving to Miami, we decided to try Guardsman in Florida hoping for somebody more professional. Now they don't want to even look at the claim we open because somebody already came but they weren't Guardsman, but a partner company. There was a fine print in the contract that states that if somebody else is coming, we're not protected for further claims. But we originally called Guardsman to fix the problem, how can I know they use a partner? And why should it be my problem? Right now we spent thousands of dollars and countless hours on this fake warranty that is worthless. it's a pure fraud. I can't understand how this scam can be legal and supported by companies like Ethan Allen. I've checked online and the web is full of horrors storied about them. Stay away from them. Don't waste your money.

The comments above are true. I bought a dining table and queen size bed through Ashley Furniture with Guardsman 5-year elite protection plan. The reason why I think Guardsman service is a scam is because the process of filing a service repair takes over 1+ hours. They require you to fill out an online form, print it out, scan 4 pages of your sales receipt, print out the 4 pages, and then mail this all the way to Michigan, which could take several days, if not weeks. If I ever meet a Guardsman CEO, I will chop off his/her fingers and break his/her teeth with a hammer for being so misleading.

So sad that companies like this still get away with these scams in this day and age. I have had the same exact issues and will never purchase from a company again that attempts to sell Guardsman protection plans. I'm also in the process of filing a BBB claim. I advise everyone to do the same.

Guardsman is a scam they do not warranty anything. On the brocuhure it clearly stated that part of the warranty was nail polish. My daughter accidently spilled nail polish on the new dresser 3 days after it was delivered and I called the same day to report it. They sent me a denial letter stating that it wasnt covered under the warranty where it clearly states that it does. When i called them they where rude & also kept saying you have to call within 5 days I told them i called the same day! Then she went on to say well there is acumiltive damage I told her i had had the furniture for 3 days before it happened. She said it didnt matter that it was done in 1 day that it was to much damage to cover. They are liars & it is a SCAM. I bought over 7k in furniure and paid a ton to have the coverage and they dont cover anything. I wish us as consumer could do something about this other than just complaint. This is wrong and furniture companies should not be selling thier product.

Guardsman - Deined claim

We purchased a leather sofa set in 2004. We also were sold a five year gold guardsman furniture protection plan for $380.00. This plan was to cover all accidental rips, tears and stains. Guardsman inferior product/not as advertised

Purchased a Kingsdown mattress from Boyle's Furniture in North Carolina-delivered one month ago. In order to meet the obligation of our new mattress warranty, I complied with the purchase of a Guardsman 10 yr protection plan applying a Guardman Protect-a-bed mattress cover. We laundered the pad for the first time as directed(tumble dry medium) and now have a molten glob instead of a mattress pad. Guardsman advises me I must seek replacement from Protect-a-bed. Protect-a-bed advises med I must seek a replacement from Guardsman. The label on the mattress pad package states"Guaranteed for 10 yrs agst fabric & manufacturing defect only. Guarantee limited to the Protectabed product. For full fetails of this guarantee see reverse of this insert." The reverse side of the insert described is blank. The protectabed cover was $40. The 10 yr protection plan much pricier. The insert does acknowledge the Protectabed cover was manufactured in China. Imagine that! And so, does Guardsman expect me to get an interpreter to help me iron out this little problem?

I bought protection plans from Guardsman when I bough so many furnitures form Nebraska Furniture Mart.

Guardsman refused to fix any of my furnitures. They are scam. I don't know why no one issued them so far.

Do not purchase. Every single claim file will be denied. A complete waste of money.

This product is under warranty and will be replaced if the proper channels are followed. No interpreter is needed as Protect-A-Bed is headquartered in Chicago, IL. It seems that some people make the process more dramatic and complicated than it really is. Visit www.protectabed.com for more details.

I had the same experience. I was provided with 3 mattress pads. The first one did fine, but the other two are just globbed together and unuseable. It is a shame because the one that works is fabulous.

Guardsman Poor service

Consumers have complained that Guardsman, Inc.

marketed, sold, distributed and issued warranties that contain open-ended, illusory terms that effectively nullify the existence of any coverage at all, and even if coverage did exist, the terms effectively allow Guardsman to exclude coverage for warranty claims for any reason at all.

Guardsman routinely excludes coverage for warranty claims for reasons that are not specifically outlined in the terms of their furniture warranties. Guardsman unilaterally creates standard-form reasons to deny warranty claims. These standard-form reasons to deny warranty claims, include, but are not limited to, that the furniture damages to be repaired (or replaced, if repair is not feasible) “cannot be attributed to any single occurrence or accident, ” “were the result of normal wear from customer usage, ” and that “were not reported when they occurred, but when they were discovered” by the consumer.

As a result, Guardsman has engaged in deceptive, unfair and fraudulent practices causing damage to consumers throughout the United States who have purchased the “Furniture Protection Warranties”, submitted claims, and subsequently had them denied.

I Agree.

If there are minor stains they will clean them but anything else they will not. Typical excuse it is soiling---not covered.

Any mechanical repairs. You are covered but you reported it 1 day too late or it is wear and tear.

Not worth getting their warranty.
