Grupo Kaizensa / Kitchen cabinets

1 San Jose, Costa Rica Review updated:

I ordered a kitchen & bathroom furniture from Grupo Kaizensa in San Jose, Costa Rica December 07. When I placed my order, everybody in the showroom spoke English, what made the choice for using them easier, there my Spanish is basic at best. The kitchen comes from Argentina, but they gave me a shipping date of 900/100 days. After 100 days I called to check up with the status of the cabinets, and was informed that there was a strike at the factory, so the cabinets were not ready. But I shouldn't worry, the strike was over and we should receive the cabinets in about 60 days. Again, after 60 days I check in, there nobody ever gets back to me, to find out that the cabinets are on a boat, but the boat is stuck in Chile, and we are not sure when it will leave port, so they can not give me a real date. Check back in with us in about 2 weeks, they say. By now, my sales person quit, the manager quit, and I'm dealing with a very young unexperienced salesperson whom is new in the business. After 2 weeks I check in again, to hear that the cabinets are now stuck in Columbia. By now, this kitchen is better traveled then me! So finally, after 7 months I get a call, the kitchen is in Costa Rica, Can I pay the balance (- installation what is 5%) and I can receive my kitchen at the end of the week). Great, we pay, and hear, the day of delivery, after waiting for 2 hours for the delivery people to call me with time line, that the kitchen is really still in customs, but they paid the taxes and we should receive them within 3 days, maximum. That is now 3 weeks ago, and when I ask for any documents that proves that they were shipped in the first place, I'm left empty handed. When I asked to speak to the manager or the owner, I was told that they wouldn't come on the phone with me, because they didn't speak english and it is not their fault that I don't speak enough Spanish!
I have been in this business for 15 years in the US, and worked with every Italian cabinet supplier, so I knew what to expect, but there lack of customer service and rudeness I have never experienced in my life!
Please, do yourself a favor and avoid this company by all means! Hire somebody local to build your kitchen, even if you live in the jungle, they are more reliable and you can check the quality control.

I only got faucets from them, and that's a nightmare. 5 year warranty is not worth anything if they don't back it up at all. I've had a faucet that leaks, not drips, but pours in the kitche. It's been over a month and nothing. All 3 of the kaizensa faucets are being corroded. They are all one year old. I agree, the customer service is horible at best. Product is nothing special at all.

    Grupo Kaizensa - custom cabinets
    Grupo Kaizensa
    Costa Rica

BOY --- wish I had seen the previous posting before I made the SAME mistake! We own a condo in Santa Ana, San Jose, Costa Rica. We placed custom cabinet order for our master bedroom. $3, 360.00! We paid 1/2 down when contract signed January 2008. We were told if the cabinets were not built & shipped before we departed Costa Rica early April we would have date so we could return to Costa Rica. Departing in April we were told they would be finished in June and Grupo Kaizensa would hold them in their warehouse until we returned. We made a special trip back to CR in August 2008 - alerting them via e-mail (which bounced back as bad address) and I also sent fax in Spanish---no reply. When we arrived we were told there had been mistake - no cabinets. When we went to the showroom story changed---yes they are in warehouse --- need to pay $1160.00 & final amount on day of installation. Installation scheduled for one week later--when I called that morning to confirm time --- told "mistake" they are on a ship & coming. I stopped the credit card payment. BAD thing now --- after months of argument with CC company (Visa with USBank---don't use them either) it was denied in "International Arbitration" and put back on my cc!... You will never convise me that the REASON they charged $1160.00 instead of the full amount was to manipulate the CC company & win --- saying I never made the payment. They NEVER tried to contact us or offer any settlement. These people are crooked & should be stopped. I now mush hire attorney in CR but I will also go as public as I possibly can to help others not be "RIPPED-OFF"
