Grow Healthy Vending vending franchise

I bought 30 machines from Grow and they only found 10 locations after 2 1/2 years and still can’t find me locations in a very busy 70 mile radius in the Maryland/VIRGINIA DC area..the owner of Grow Healthy Vending will keep your money and not find locations for you. He kept $30, 000 of my money and won’t return it. I gave Chris Wyland $161, 326 and recieved 22 machines at only 10 locations. Three of the ten locations are good and Grow will not relocate any machines until all new machines are placed. Well, if they refuse to find locations for my new machines then they won't have to relocate any of my underperforming locations. I have 8 machines left to place which I paid a deposit on half of them($29, 332). I asked Chris Wyland to just send me 4 machines and I will find my own locations and we can part ways. Chris refused and wants me to give him $30, 000 more for the rest of the 8 machines. I think this speaks to the character of Chris and how he treats his operators. If he would just send me the four machines I paid for instead of asking me to purchase the rest of the 8 machines without him finding locations for me, I think that would be a fair way for both of us to take a bad situation and make the best of it. His greed has clouded his professionalism.
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH GROW HEALTHY VENDING. Do your research and you will find a lot of people that purchased machines from Grow have the same bad experiences as I do.

I was the original post on this thread. All this happened before everybody started losing their money. If what Chris said in his post was true then why did he not refund me or give me the 4 machines that I paid for? This was back when he supposedly had money, or at least had your money but he still did not do the right thing. I am out $30, 000. He could’ve sent me for used machines from his warehouse if you want to do The right thing.

I purchased 30 machines and they only found me 8 locations and then stopped finding locations for me. I found some on my own. They owe me 8machines that I paid for and haven’t heard from them in 3 years. They owe me $60, 000.

Count me among the ever growing list of vending machine operators defrauded by these crooks. Chris Wyland owes me three vending machines that I paid for in full. I have started legal proceedings and filed complaints with the BBB, Ca attorney general, and the Federal Trade Commission.

Chris Wyland and his family owned and operated business Grow Healthy Vending could not compete successfully in their industry in a fair, legal and ethical manner so they resorted to slandering, disparaging and defaming their biggest competitor 1-800-Vending aka Healthy-You Vending. That malicious and evil attack backfired. Healthy-You vending in turn sued Grow and the lawsuit resulted in a settlement agreement in favor of Healthy-You. The agreement was signed around March of 2017. The lawsuit itself which lasted 2.5 years, handicapped Grow and left the Wyland family severely strapped for cash. Wyland inevitably defaulted on the settlement agreement and a default judgment was entered in California against Wyland on November 21, 2017 in the amount of $252, 112.90. In the same month, United Natural Foods (UNFI) filed a new lawsuit against Grow for breach of contract, unpaid goods and unjust enrichment. While all this was happening Wyland was battling yet another civil lawsuit which alleged multiple counts of fraud and negligent misrepresentation. He ended up losing that suit too and another judgment was entered against him as he breached yet another settlement agreement in which payment became due December 1st, 2017.

Knowing all along that his company was collapsing and suspended by the California state Franchise Tax board (for unpaid taxes), he found himself in a desperate situation and out of dirty tricks. Their only option was to steal and embezzle payment from new machine sales. Because they could not stay current on their bills and operating expenses they started a fraudulent scheme of bogus sales tactics and then came up with delivery excuses such as “manufacturing delays” and “back orders“ in order to keep cash and hold peoples’ money hostage while delaying delivery of goods or not delivering them at all. Eventually their lies were exposed, their fraudulent quasi lapping scheme caught up with them and their house of cards collapsed. Chris Wyland “robbed peter to pay paul” and misappropriated funds for several years and he stole money until the very end. This was all done purposely, intentionally, methodically and for at least the last year and a half was his strategy and mode of operation. Even in the last few months of business he took on new operators knowing full well that he would never deliver them the machines that they paid for.

Chris Wyland has all the markings and character traits of a sociopath. He is a serial scammer, liar and con artist. He exhibits signs and symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder. His history of lies, deception and fraudulent behavior goes back to his days at Fresh Healthy Vending, Boost Energy Shot and Sprout. One online review for example, from 6 years ago say the same things as now. They will “take your money and run...scammer...CROOKS”. They are as dirty, dishonest and crooked as they come. He fakes machine serial numbers and shipment tracking numbers. He stiffs people left and right. Chris Wyland has a history of stealing. He has 2 prior felony convictions. He has been found guilty of grand theft several times. He has also been charged in the past with making false financial statements. That charge however was dropped during a plea bargain. Not to mention he has over a dozen state, federal and franchise tax liens totaling over 300, 000 dollars. No wonder he reorganized Sprout Vending into Grow. Needless to say, he is also being investigated for tax fraud and tax evasion.

Wyland kept his stolen amounts from each individual to an amount low enough to make it not feasible or cost effective to commence a lawsuit. That’s why he delivered partial orders or partial refunds--just to keep people in limbo and at bay. And in cases of smaller orders- nothing was delivered. He stole it all! Wyland is not as impoverished as he claims to be. He continues to live with his family in a 1.2 million dollar 3500 square foot single family beach home on stolen cash. Despite getting evicted from his place of business at 44 Waterworks Way in December and going “out of business” neither Grow Healthy Vending nor Chris Wyland have filed for bankruptcy.

At the end of the day, Wyland and anyone involved in this grand theft embezzlement operation will be indicted and eventually convicted. It’s only a matter of time. It’s a very slow process but everything will come out in court. Reckoning day for these lowlifes is on the horizon. If you have any additional information that would help with the investigation of this matter and/or you would like to file a complaint of fraud and theft, please contact us through our Grow Victim Support Facebook page. There are many victims out there who have lost tens of thousands of dollars. We want to hear from you. Thank you.

Chris attempted to rip me off as well until I threatened to sue him. Took them four months to get my 5 machines and never got and l never received locations. Did that myself.

To prove the previous post is accurate and Chris and Dawna did start a new business with your money the attached picture of Get Nosh is actually taken in the back warehouse of Grow Healthy Vending in Irvine. I've been there and the exact location of this picture is where a "friend" of Chris' used to run his healthy vending business.

Probably used to funnel money they took from us while at Grow Healthy Vending. These people are lifetime criminals. We must keep following up to make sure they don't keep doing the same thing over and over again...

I was defrauded by him too. He took $40, 000 from me. Does anyone here has any idea of how can we get organized so we can join together in action? I think it will be more feasible to obtain results and the attention of the authorities if we act as a group rather than each of us on its own.

I am defrauded by Cris Wyland, Will Wyland, Dawna Wyland, Kayla Wyland, Alexis Wyland. They waisted my time for almost year and a half as well and finally they ran away with my almost $8000. Whenever I called the office, I was told that either Cris was sick or on leave of absence. His wife Dawna who was claiming to be the co owner of the company kept on wasting my time and finally commented that I have nothing to do with the company and I just help in finding the locations. It is our hard earned money which I was trying to start a business with and work honestly and pay taxes. Someone taking your hard earned money and disappear cannot be spared without any accountability. He used his entire family to scam people is unbelievable. If all the people who are effected by him join together and take action, I am sure something can be done to our benefit

Chris Wyland has started other companies called Getnosh and Smart Snacks International. This needs to be shared to prevent him from ripping anyone else off.

Do you have any info that ties Wyland to Getnosh ? I included his priors to Detective Vickner at the Irvine police department. Any other info will be helpful in charging the Wylands with wire fraud.

This was just sent to me. Why did he still take our money and lie about machines being ordered and shipped. This is an attempt to try and save himself from legal troubles. I’m not buying it!

Dear Grow Customer,

I would like to apologize for the recent silence. Seven years ago Grow Healthy Vending created and launched a healthy vending concept with the goal of offering an alternative to the high priced/low quality options that were being offered by our competitors. It was the company’s goal to offer what experts in the vending industry would agree is the highest quality equipment available in the United States. Grow Healthy Vending also sought to offer equipment, services and support at a lower cost than any other company in our industry with the hope that by doing so Grow operators would be more successful in a shorter amount of time.

I understand the frustration and hurt that you must feel however I wanted to be able communicate the information properly and within the right context. As you may already know, Grow has effectively stopped doing business. A decision was made at the end of the year to take a step back and restructure in an attempt to determine if was at all possible to move forward given the landscape of the business model, industry and several other factors that have caused a sharp decline in sales over the past year. Initially I had hoped to temporarily close the business, lay off employees and lower operating cost with the thought of pushing the reset button.

Unfortunately it became very clear that we could not continue with operations at all. We were a successful company with hundreds of successful operators for years but I believe a lawsuit that was settled with one of our competitors has been used effectively by them to essentially cut off our sales pipeline. Because of this our the cash flow diminished to a point we could not continue providing service, equipment and support. As you can imagine, this caused additional issues with unhappy operators, online complaints and it has had a snowball effect. Our business survived on sales and the credibility that we had created in the industry of providing the best available equipment at a lower cost than our competitors. With the decline in leads, potential operators and subsequent sales it had made it impossible to continue. I continued to believe that given a few solid months of sale we could turn things around. I lowered operating costs, i tweaked the pricing and business in an effort to do so.

I also wanted to take the time to address a few things to ensure you understand the facts completely. There has never been an impropriety in how this business was run and our accounting records back this up. This idea that I have somehow collected all of this money over the past 7 years and "skipped town" with it is false. The idea that our business model is any different than any other company in our industry is false other than the fact we have made much less profit per machine than any other company. I live in the same rented home now as I have for the past 3 years. Yes, we have closed the office as I could no longer afford to pay the rent. Yes, I have laid off our employees as I could not longer cover payroll. This has been done out of necessity, not because I wanted to.

It is not inexpensive to run a business such as this. Our annual operating costs including cost of goods, payroll, office expenses, marketing, etc.. has averaged almost $2 million a year. My wife and I do not own a home, have very little assets, have literally no money in the bank and I can assure you 100% that this can all be easily proven. Everything that we had, we put back into the company over the past year to try and make it work. If and when the time comes that our accounting information and business/personal finances are required to be examined this will be confirmed. I also attempted finance solutions and investments that did not materialize. If I took any money from an operator it was with the intention to fulfill the services, support and equipment contained in the agreement. Just as we had many, many people before you.

I want you to know that I feel horrible for putting you in this position. I created Grow in an effort to provide something different within the healthy vending industry that I truly believed was important. I have done everything that I know possible to ensure Grow operators are successful and although there is a group of operators in this current situation there have also been hundreds of other operators who have been successful and who received everything they paid for. Why would I all of a sudden after over 7 years of business and fulfilling agreements just decide one day to stop? Why would I continue to fulfill orders and ship machines through December? Why would I ship and provide services for 2 machines but not the 3rd? The 9th but not the 10th? The bottomline is that we simply ran out of money and time. Like any business we were dependent on cash flow.

If it were up to me, I would be continuing the business with the hope of making sure you and other operators are taken care of but it is virtually impossible at this point. Some unhappy operators have done everything they can to ensure that we do not continue in business which affects you directly. I also want to let you know that this does not just affect you. It affects myself, my wife and my family as well as we have also lost our source of income. We have received threats, online stalking, blackmail and harassing calls to the point that we have began reporting them to the proper authorities. Although I understand the anger and frustration and know my situation may pale in comparison, I hope you also understand that this is not acceptable. It hurts me deeply to know that I failed you and I hope in the future to be in a position in which I can pay you back regardless of how long it takes. I have been asked the question, "how can you live with yourself?". I can tell you that it is very hard. I think about this every second of every day and if I could change it, I would but this not done purposefully.

After this email please do not take my silence or non-communication as a representation that I do not care. I do not have the answer that you want to hear and I see no point in getting into arguments as it results in nothing positive. In the meantime I will continue to look into ways to make this right. I respectfully ask for your patience during this time. I understand this affects you and your family and I truly apologize for it.

Regards,
