General Revenue phone harassment

I am not a borrower but was contacted by them trying to find my daughter. The man on the phone indicated he was looking for her but was not authorized to talk to me, I then asked why he was calling if in fact he was not allowed to speak to me, wasn't that a violation of her privacy and he was not to call my number again.. he then stated he would call me and her entire family and friends if he had to in order to reach her.. her privacy was not a concern of his. I hung up.

General Revenue Phone Harassment

General Revenue called me two days ago trying to get contact information for my brother-in-law. I told them my sister's number was stored in the phone I was talking on and told him I would call him back. After thinking about it I realized it was a collection agency and I did not call him back. As it turned out he has also called my mother and my wife. DO NOT cooperate with these leeches. They are trying to collect a bad debt for a cut of the money.

General Revenue dishonest, abuse of phone, calls all hours at work and home after they were told not to

This comapny is awful. My laons were in deferrment, I had completed all the paperwork, no contact until recently over this. Now they say I am in default and owe, 3 different amounts. They sent a notice to my employer to with hold wages with no court order stating they could. I contested this and was told I would be contacted for a hearing. I never was until they sent me a phoney letter with no court stamp or anything saying I failed to show for a hearing in person in another state. I have requested several payment arrangements with them and they refuse. They want me to make a 200 down payment up front then pay 1000 per monmth on a 1200 per month salary. They harass you, threaten you the whole nine yards.

Any advice on how to get rid of this company. What they are doing is illegal amd just down right wrong. I have tried to work this out with them several times. They only accept thier terms and wont consider anything else.

Not enough information to make a determination as to an opinion regarding this matter. This company is required by law to follow certain guidelines and since it is associated with the federal government has more leverage in recovering revenues owed. As far as the structured repayment terms and amounts I am sure it is based again on amounts. If you buy a $50, 000.00 car and want to pay $100.00 a month I am sure you can agree it is unacceptable. Being that this was a educational loan and the earnings you have stated reflects unknown issues that I assume unfortunate, as expected anyone who borrows monies to obtain a higher education should be able to offset repayments with salaries compensatory with a higher education. I believe that due to mitigating circumstances due to results of your education or the current economic environment are making repayment difficult. If you look at your original agreement/contract terms you cam only conclude that though times may be difficult all companies are demanding obligations too be met. I hope any hardships you may be experiencing subsides and you find yourself in a better position in complying with legal obligations. Please consider the employees of this company are just performing their duties and though unpleasant at times have to follow company procedures. I have student loans myself and have a very limited income due to disability but realize my obligation and meet my commitment each and every month. My repayment was based on the amount and no regard for income was considered, I really can not afford it but I freely chose to mutually agree to all terms when my loans were originated. What ever the circumstances are for you, I wish you the best especially due to the fact chapter 7 is not even an option in regards to student loans, I know personally...Again good luck sir. KBMH Hope to see you reached a resolution on this discussion board.

General Revenue Ruined my ego

I keep getting calls from General Revenue Corporation saying that I still owe they money in the amount of 1174.00 dollars, claiming that I defaulted on student loans for American Intercontinental University. I NEVER WILLINGLY PARTICIPATED OR SIGNED UP for anything in regard to American Intercontinental University. Sure I might have signed up and taken a couple of classes, but I do not feel that I should have to have paid this 1174.00 dollars to General Revenue Corporation. Now, they have ruined my credit, and now I cannot be able to sign up for any major credit cards or even purchase a car, which my family has been begging me to do for this year. They (General Revenue Corp.) force me against my will to take out two separate payments of 587.00 from my personal savings accounts in order to stop harassing me. I want my money back. NO EXCEPTIONS!

People need to remember, once YOU'VE signed your paperwork to take a class and YOU'VE signed to pay the funds granted to you in advance, YOU MUST PAY IT BACK NO MATTER HOW MANY DAYS YOU ARE or ARE NOT IN CLASS...YOU SIGNED FOR IT...YOU PROMISED TO PAY THE FUNDS BACK...YOU SIGNED THAT YOU WOULD ALLOW THE LOAN TO GO TO COLLECTIONS IF YOU DO NOT PAY...IT'S NOT THE SCHOOLS FAULT, MOMMY & DADDY'S FAULT or COUSIN LARRY'S FAULT YOU DID NOT COMPLY TO YOUR END OF THE DEAL...When you do not pay your student loan back, YOU not anyone else, makes the loan go into default...once in default you are assessed late fees & collection costs (it's in the paperwork YOU signed at the beginning)...DON'T BLAME ANYONE ELSE FOR YOUR SLACKING TO READ THE FINE PRINT...WHEN I WAS GROWING UP I WAS TOLD "IF YOU CAN'T DO THE TIME..DON'T DO THE CRIME" & "IF YOU CAN'T PAY CASH..YOU DON'T NEED IT" & "IF YOU DON'T INTEND ON PAYING THE MONEY BACK..DON'T TAKE THE LOAN"
REMEMBER - when YOU don't pay your student loan back (like YOU promised), YOU are keeping the next person from attending school and furthering their education, YOU are the one making taxes go up, YOU are the one why the government can't pay it's debt (because they are too busy paying YOUR's...and YOU ARE THE ONE'S KEEPING """DEBT COLLECTORS""" IN A JOB...THANKS FOR THE JOB...

"I NEVER WILLINGLY PARTICIPATED OR SIGNED UP for anything in regard to American Intercontinental University. Sure I might have signed up and taken a couple of classes"

Really? So you might have signed up, but never willingly signed up? Really? Also, how did you not willingly participate? Participation is a requirement for college. How did they force you against your will to make payments? I'm not sure someone can force you against your will over the phone.

And I don't think they made you pay in order to stop harrassing you. No one wants to harrass you, but also, no one should have to call you and say, "Hey bum, pay your bill!"

You sound pathetic. Barely sounds like there was an ego to ruin in the first place...

The proof of non-debt is on the consumer. Did they just pick your name out of a hat? No... No one can force you to pay anything against your will ... You have a right to be given proof of the debt. This means a signed copy of what you agreed to, or a promissory note. Then if it is not you, submit it in writing to them. 99.9% of the time the schools do not make Identification mistakes as you have to proved your SSN#. Why would they say you owed something if you didn't? I'm not saying mistakes aren't made, but is not very likely. I hope for your sake it wasn't you. Did you attend the school or apply on line? If you didn't cancel your request you will be billed for the classes whether you took them or not... That's why you always read the fine print in this world ran by a bunch of Elitist Rich Zionist Jew pigs that own everything. The own 92% of the schools in the world and 96% of the worlds wealth. And have bought and paid for every cop lawyer, politician and every underhanded shady deal that has ever went down in this world they are the evil that plagues this universe and their Real Holocaust is coming when God caomes back to burn their nasty fkng [censored]'s for real this time and they shall burn for forever for their crimes against man and God. I want to be on the match lighting crew so i can laugh at them for their arrogance and say I told you so, Now Burn Mthr Fkrs Burn... They don't know how close they are to their Eternal Suffering.

General Revenue Harassment

I have been harassed by GENERAL REVENUE CORPORATION for no good reason what so ever. They called my aging father back in America and under false pretense they were able to get my phone number. After several harassing phone calls after 8:00 PM here in Australia it was discovered they were calling the wrong person. They must have looked up everyone with the same name and called to see if they could get a bite. They are just rude arrogant jerks.

These dopes put my phone number into an auto-dialer and have been harassing me day after day, for months with phone messages. From what I read, their main business is collecting on student loans. I never had a student loan, and don't owe any creditors. I've already filed a complaint with the Federal Consumer Protection Bureau. The fact that GRC would put an unverified number into an auto-dialing system and leave it in there for at least four months to harass and irritate the innocent party on the other end shows how sleazy, reckless and incompetent these people are. If anyone ever files a class action lawsuit, I'm in. If this company starts calling you, I strongly suggest filing a complaint against them, because they won't stop the harassment until they feel like it.

General Revenue false statement

I am waiting on a 1099 form that shows how much interest I have paid in the past year on my defaulted student loan. I have called twice, once at 8:30a.m. and again today at 1:00p.m and got a recording that states the office hours and then says that the office is closed. I need this form to file my income tax of which they get as a federal tax return offset. If I don't get this, then they will not get a refund of mine, as I will have to pay in to the government on my taxes. Also, I understand that any federal offset is suppose to be applied to the principal and GRC of New York is not in compliance with this law. I feel that they need to reduce this debt by the amounts that they were suppose to apply to my principal, but haven't to date. If I don't get some results, I will be forced to obtain an attorney of my own. Please respond to my e-mail. Awaiting your response

Sincerely,
Winifred Pherigo

General Revenue Collection Calls

To all of you complaining about bill collectors. 1st of all you are the ones that are in the wrong for not taking care of your Debts. Its not the bill/loan collectors fault you aren't making your obligations. No one told you to sign the student loan, or Repayment paperwork without reading it 1st. You stupid [censored] mthr fkrs, who couldn't u/stand the terms on the paperwork you signed shouldn't have been allowed to get into college anyway. If you didn't understand it you should have asked someone what it meant at the least. And now you bash collections people for doing their job. And before you stupid mthr fkrs, complain about the frequency of calls, you also need to know your states laws and what the FDCPA says about phone calls. They are allowed to ' BY FEDERAL LAW" TO CALL you up to 4 times a day between the hours of 8am to 9 pm., AND yES THEY CAN CALL YOUR WORK, your home phone and your cell#, & 1/2 of you little pieces of chit change your numbers after you start getting calls about money and debt that you owe, You scumbagg little [censored] today of the me me me generation 21-32 years old are the most irresponsible little pukes to ever walk this earth) because you arent answering your other phone calls @ home or on your cell's. Besides wouldn't it make sense that after 4 phone calls you at least return theirs, then they wouldn't have to call you 4 times a day, most bill collectors are willing to make arrangements with you, but if you don't call and do that then you are the stupid mthr fkrs and dserve to be called 4 times aday you free-loading little [censored]. You owe the fkng Govmnt for your student loans (or XYZ company), this is Tax payers money you borrowed, And me as Tax payer i'm pissed off. You got an education, you got a better paying job than someone else with that education, & you still owed the Fed'l govmnt, well Fk You. U
are theproblem with Debt in this country and the collectors are the solutions and If you can't see that you are the stupid Dead beat no bill paying Mthr Fkrs. They didn't tell you to have 4 kids, drive $600 a month cars & have a 2, 000$ amonth house payment. When you are in De-fault you are in Default and your balance is due in full. Its because of you stupid little mthr fkrs that don't pay your bills why the banks have all of these bullchit policies and high interest rates that plague this Country and we all have to now put up with these bullchit rules and terms, You lowlife little pieces of chit are the Problem once again. ( Payments on any defaulted loan or bill that you have is a courtesy. Its a very basic principal, you don't make your care payment they come get it, DUH YOU STUPID FK'S) When you de-fault the paperwork YOU signed says you will pay the collection cost, penalties, and the interest on those accounts and any attorneys fees that are required to collect on those debts. And you still blame the bill collectors. 95% of you stupid [censored] college snot nosed uppity little fkrs dont even understand basic math and how an interest bearing account even works, and yet you want to bash these people who are just doing thier job, the companies (you the borrower defaulted on) Hired them to do. Its a Job just like an IRS agent. You don't pay your taxes, they will get their money 1 way or another you stupid idiots, wether it is thru wage Garnishments or Tax off-sets Running from your debts is not the solution you are the Problem in this Country and you all need to be exposed for the Irresponsible little jackazz's that you are. Their is always a solution all you have to do is call them, you making a minimal payment arrangement shows good faith and responsibility, you not answering thier phone calls shows lack of good judgement and irresponsibility and your parents should have put a boot up your stupid [censored]'s for being Fkng Stupid, unless you are part of that 75% of the Folks in this country that the Parents are Dumber than their fkng stupid [censored] kids), and you dumb mthr fkrs went to college. GET A FKNG LIFE AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR BILLS AND YOU WON'T HAVE TO BE CALLED BY COLLECTIONS PEOPLE PROBLEMS SOLVED JACKAZZ'S ! Complain to someone who gives a flying chit about your Stupidity, and Quit Bashing those hard working people who are just trying to do their JOB.

You Said it yourself to better themselves... 95% of the people who have a degree are social mrons and self serving idiots that have no common sense nor can they deal with the general public. The loan documents that you signed says that if you defaulted you would pay legal, collections, and attorney's fee's if you failed to pay. The collection cost and these fee's are mandated and those amounts are regulated by the Government as to what can be charged. You don't like it write your congressman. Just like your fkng car payment you don't make the mother [censor]er they come get your car. If you don't pay your student loan your license needs to be suspended wether your a doctor or a teacher or a nurse. Bottom Line ! Also, those "" underpaid teachers are eligible to write off an annual percentage of that school debt every year, all they had to do was fill out a simple 2 page form every school year, again if they bothered reading the fkng paperwork. Its called the public service forgiveness program. Again being responsible, if you took on more than you can chew, like anything else you have to pay the piper. I have no sympathy. Pay your [censor]ing bills and take care of your obligations and you won't have to have collectorers calling your dead beat [censor]. You wanna know why cost keep going up of you feel that its unfair pricing, it because of non-paying mthr fkrs. Simple solution spelled out for you above, now get your [censored] back to work and teach other not to be as stupid as you in money management. If you have kids, thats your own fault no one told you to have kids you couldn't afford, or how you got hooked up with Mr. Wrong or Miss Wrong. You made the choice now live with the consequences of your actions. Higher Education is a joke and it always will be right along with our piss poor education system in this country that does nothing but set students up to fail from the start. Perfect Example: We have went through 7 Chief Electrical Sales Engineers at our Company in the last 24 years. These guys have 8+ years of College, yet they couldn't hold down this position for any longer than 4 years. I've been there for all 24
years with my non-highfalutin (4) year Vocational Training Certification from all the way back to high school, and out scored 6 out of 7 of those 8+ year degreed engineers on Our Annual Testing and Evaluation Reports. It is what it is, most people with a degree think they are better than others and it refelects in their attitudes towards co-workers customers and management. I was their boss and they cldn't fkng stand it, and I made on Average about 9-10K
more a year than the social fkng robotic book smart only [censor]'s that our company hired. I recommended they get rid of all the MBA
highfaultin jack [censor] at our company 3 years ago, they did. No more employee issues have come up, Our profitability increased by 31%, AND IT WASN'T BECAUSE OF RAISING PRICES, IT'S BECAUSE WE RAN MORE EFFICIENTLY WITHOUT THE " College [censor]"
I'm better or above you, I didn't go to college for 8 years to help with the excessive filing or Inventory -"I'm not doing that" - [censor]ing drama. We havent had to hire anyone for the last 3 years and our people have gotten a raise every year. 95% of All high and mighty college people do nothing but belittle co-workers and those they feel are under them. They are the Reason the World is in the State that it is in... Look around the economic state of the Country. Its the
"Highly Educated" that run it and boy they are just doing a wonderful job aren't they. The meek and meger shall inheret the earth, not all of these rich, manipulative pushy, attended a Jew Owned college, Zionist low life [censored]bags. 2.1 % of the population controls 96% of the worlds wealth, and you see how they make laws and rules for the other 97.9% of us. I rest my case! GOD HAS A PLACE FORALL OF YOU MOTHER [censor]ERS... Hell ! I hope I'm on the Match Lighting Squad that get to ingnite the flames, and watch you stinky lowlife [censored]bags burn for what you have done and how you have treated your fellow man. The world's for Real this time "Holocaust" is coming. I can't wait...

Is this why you did not get a college education? It sure does show. Learn to spell or maybe take an English class. LOL. Im sorry, but I do not know what a "Care" payment is? LOL. Collectors are out of control. They will learn one day not to operate illegally. Plus, are you really going to knock someone because they want to better themselves by getting an education? Unfortunately it comes with a price, and sometimes even when people better themselves it doesn't always mean they make tons of money. Look at teachers of the world, their salaries are very low and sometimes their degree costs more than their salary. But it is very clear you didn't learn a lot from your teachers. SO, the next time you knock someone because they can't pay their student loan, just remember it is not because they chose not to pay, but maybe honest to goodness, they just couldnt afford the interest rates and collections cost that are illegal that companies like GRC/Sallie Mae tack on to the original bill. Just food for thought, but since you love your job so much, you may just be rolling your eyes at this. Ignorance is definately only for the blind.

WOW! Very shocked after reading this. Ya I am sure there are people out there who dont wanna pay money back that they do owe but seriously I dont think those people who go as far as to come on here and complain about it. The complaints on here are to be heard and to make others aware because there is so much scamming and fraud out there.

Learn to spell before commenting and your ranting does not make sense, I have paid taxes more years than you know, served my country for twenty six plus, and paid my student loans but the companies overcharging and taking my money do not deserve the respect.

You certainly are defensive and I doubt you understand simple Math as your Spelling and grammar is horrid along with you are using my tax payers money to have attended school in the past and it did no good it seems for you. BJ

General Revenue unfair student loan programs

I have been getting my checks garnished weekly. I entered into a program with GRC to repair my student loan default . I pay $50.00 extra monthly to GRC to be eligible to have my loan bought by a lender, I have paid this for seven months. I have struggled to the point my home is in forclosure. I contacted GRC after receiving another nasty collection letter. they told me that I missed my December payment and am no longer eligible for their program. I had just received a letter telling me my loan process was almost complete. They would not accept a payment from me, they stated its too late, it had to be made by 1/11/10. today is 1/13/10. They are a horrible corporation and I am saddened that the SAG utilizes such an organization.

General Revenue Calling a neighbor about me

This company called my neighbor, although I am listed under a P.O. Box, and asking questions about me. I barely know my neighbor so it was ackward when he came to me saying a bill collector contacted him about me. I do not owe these ### money nor would I ever deal with a third party in any transaction, especially over the phone. These fraudulant companies have been ligitimized by our government but I could care less if we all owe them millions.

I would rather be in debt than pay rediculous amounts of money, even if I owe them, which I don't. Tell them go ask the banks that got the bail outs.

I took my original student loan to court, I quit the school within five weeks then joined the military, and won because their lawyers filed an illegal lawsuit by sending the summons to my mother while knowing I was serving my country. I represented myself with the help of my law professor and won, it was one of the greatest feelings. Stay in debt people, pay cash and stay away from credit because you will never get out from under the interest. (Don't trust any business that asks you for money without looking into it with a lawyer, not a credit consolidation company or any other outfit. Deal only with the courts and speak with a lawyer or a paralegal.)

My advice to anyone dealing with these dirt balls is to laugh it off and don't let them get to you. Send hate mail to their presidents, report them to the Attorney generals, and send hate mail to the original loaners. Take control of your lives by fighting back instead of cowering when they call your work or home. Make it a point to have weekly phone call sessions with friends to call their 1 800 numbers to get use to dealing with them. Call them and ask irrelevent questions so you can blow off steam at their expense. ###'em!

Imagine if we all called them talking about their practices. We could have their employees taking anti depressants. Fight back people, don't let these ###ers ruin your life, we only live once and being in debt is part of this ### hole of a "Democracy." Take your freedom back by using cash, stay away from the big banks, stay away from for profit schools, and vent your frustration on the culprits, not yourself.

Most importantly, learn how debt works by looking at the sites below:

General Revenue Misleading phone contact

My mother received a phone call from GRC almost forcibly asking for personal information such as place of business, and phone number, and home address for a daughter of a woman she knows. There was no information given to my mother as to why this information was needed, as per if it were for a job interview or such, and there was no personal information of this person suggested for verification, only the urgent need to gain personal information.

How GRC knows my mother knows this person bothers me, as well as their persistence to gain access to her personal information without readily relaying the reason for why.

General Revenue Liars

Ive made the 6 or 9 consecutive payments that were needed to qualify for financial aid again under the specific directions from the general revenue agents. They told me that they will fax over the form to the financial aid office to the school of my choice which was a lie. First general revenue has to contact Sallie Mae and let them know that I have been making consecutive payments and Sallie Mae has to send the form over to the schools only after general rev. gives them the okay. General revenue has told me that they sent Sallie Mae two notification request saying its okay for Sallie Mae to release the form but when i called sallie mae they have no idea what I'm talking about! If the statement is not released I cannot enroll for school or receive financial aid. General revenue corp or grc is a scam and are a bunch of liars who will say or do anything to collect a debt. I dont know what to do maybe ill stop making payments whats the point? Now when i call it says the mailbox is full and i cant leave a message what the hell!

General Revenue Harrassment

I recently received a notice in the mail that GRC-General Revenue Corp. was seizing my joint income tax returns to pay for student loans that my husband had incurred before we married. Unfortunately we were unaware of these student loans that they claim he owes because my husband was under the impression that the US Navy GI bill had paid for his schooling several years agi when he attended. Appearently not! So I call the number found on the notice that the IRS sent me a few weeks ago. A woman named Alma (last name omited) answered my call and immediately went into the specifics of my husbands debt claiming he owes $16000 to Sallie Mae and that if we don't set up payments with post dated checks in the amount of $170 /mo we could be subject to a 15% wage garnishment. I requested she send me a request in writing as I really don't care to give my checking info over the phone without something tangible before me to review. She said that they couldn't send me anything. Then she put her supervisor on the phone whp informed me that they would HOLD my info for 24 hours. When I asked this gentlement what would happen after 24 hours he couldn't answer me. Since then I have received a call every day from GRC. If I answer, they call back in 24 hrs, if I don't answer they call several more times in the same day. They are calling me on my personal cell phone and harrassing me giving me info about a debt that has nothing to do with me at all. She gave a modified version of the "mini-miranda" as required by FDCPA law stating at the opening of our most recent conversation "this call could be monitored" thats it... she didn't give the full thing and has never in fact asked my husbands permission to speak with me, Nevada is NOT a comunity property state. Now she wants to know what my income is... I feel that GRC has broken many FDCPA laws here and I am not pleased. I would be more willing to set something up with them if they weren't so relentless and pushy! I mean they've had 8 years to contact my husband about this debt & now she's trying to light a fire under me and scare me into paying her money that I don't have. I don't know what to do about this and I don't have money to pay an attorney! I am very surprised that a Government affiliate like Sallie Mae would allow such dispicable behavior from their collectors.

My biggest gripe about General Revenue Corp is that so far, my "agent" refuses to mail me anything in writing about a payment plan without getting my account information for payment. I am more than ready to start making payments and take responsibility for the loan I had defaulted on, but I refuse to blindly give out my checking out or debit card information to a collection agency without having something in writing (or even via e-mail) describing the terms for my payment plan. Second issue I have is the inability to pay down my loan non-electronically. If they want my money so badly, why do they refuse to accept a money order? Why do I have to give them my account info and just pray they don't take out more than what they said because I have nothing in writing?

At least they were willing to work with you. I was contacted by them yesterday, and yes they were rude to me on the phone, they told me if i didn't agree to a repayment plan by 10:00 this morning, I would be in garnishment. Well we came to an agreement last night to pay $330 a month. When I called back this morning, they claimed that the agreement we came to last night never happened. She even went so far as to claim I never called them. So when I told her that the call was recorded, she became angry with me. I told her I didn't have any problem with the $330 payment, so she asked for my account and band routing number. i told her to fax me an agreement, and I would gladly provide her everything she needed. She then told me that they no longer want to work with me and hung up on me! I don't think I was out of line to ask for something in writing. So now I guess I'll have to request a hearing to have my garnishment reduced, since they refuse to work with me anymore.

I'm new at this whole GRC thing, and Laquita, who has been contacting me, has been nothing but pleasant and patient with my non-paying butt. As the person above stated, i was more than happy to sign on the dotted line to get the loan but then when push comes to shove the student loan is the LAST bill I pay. Im more than happy someone is willing to help me get out of this bind, whether it be confusing and maybe I dont pay my loan off as much or what have you...Maybe i have rose-colored glasses on but at this time in my life, I'm grateful GRC contacted me and not the IRS saying they want my return back or next April 15th my tax return will be in the negative becasue of defaulted student loans.

You've got to be kidding me. These people on here need to take some responsibility! I hate reading comments from people who don't do their research. You were quick to sign on the dotted line when money was being given out, but magically disappear when it's time to repay it. When you take out a student loan, there's this thing called a PROMISSORY NOTE that you sign, and you agree that if they lend you the money to go to school, you will either PAY IT BACK, or you'll make satisfactory arrangements with the lender BEFORE the loan goes into default. You also agree that if you're NEGLIGENT, and don't make any type of arrangement, and the loan defaults, you will pay it in full all at once.
General Revenue is doing you a favor by allowing you to make a voluntary arrangement on your loan. They could garnish you for way more than you're probably willing to pay voluntarily! And the chances are, they're not rude, you just FEEL like they're being rude because they're telling you that your wages will be garnished! They're not rude, or threatening you, they are hired to tell you these things and give you one last chance to make it right before they embarrass you with your employer by garnishing your wages @ 15%.
(By the way, some doofus earlier thinks that garnishing a bi-weekly paycheck at 15% per paycheck, means the total garnishment is 30%...DUHHHH! It's still 15% total! Math, anyone?)
HELLOOOOOO! It is your responsibility to keep your lender updated with your address. If you move, and your cell phone company is never given your new address, so you never receive your bill, and never pay, DO YOU GET MAD IF THEY CUT YOUR PHONE OFF? You didn't pay! You should have made sure they had your address at all times, since you owe them money. You know you owe money on a student loan, you know you haven't paid anything, and you decided to just wait until it caught up with you.
I really can't think of very many good excuses for a student loan to go into default, considering they give you SIXTY months of payment postponements, called forbearance. All you have to do is request it. It takes a whole YEAR without payments or arrangements for payment, for the loan to default. You also get unemployment deferment time, so if you lost your job, the government will pay the interest on your loan for a total of 12 months, and you can use it in increments. You also have economic hardship deferment, where if your required loan payment amount is 25% or more of your income, you can get your payment deferred, with paid interest on a subsidized loan.
If you went today and took out a loan from a car dealership, and you drove off the lot in the new car paid for by your loan, and you never make a single payment, Why would you be mad @ the company for tracking you down, even if it's at work? Obviously if they're reaching you at work, it's because they've tried every other way. You shouldn't be mad at them for doing the job that they were hired for, BY THE COMPANY THAT YOU AGREED TO REPAY if the loan defaults.
Shame on people for running from their debt. I highly doubt that someone who has been unemployed for 2 years is actively seeking unemployment. Regardless of where you live. Regardless of the job market. You can work at a fast food restaurant. ANYWHERE. But unless you're disabled, or you have a dependent who requires your care, to the point it keeps you from being gainfully employed, YOU DESERVE TO HAVE YOUR WAGES GARNISHED! By not repaying your student loans, you're making it hard for lenders to give money to new students. People like you are some of the reasons that our economy is in shambles. People being irresponsible with money, blaming it on others, and not taking responsibility, letting the GOVERNMENT repay your debts. SHAME SHAME SHAME!
(Sidenote: All the people complaining about not being able to afford the monthly payments probably have cable tv, internet, cell phones, huge car payments for a car that isn't economical, and spend money on things that if they just SACRIFICED, they would have enough money to pay their loan back. Get it together America!)

I recently acquired info from my human resource dept that a company ask if I worked there and that they were gonna garnish my wages because of a student loan went to a debt collector I had no warnings or anyone send me letters tot tell me what was going on .I found out that I had a 12, 800 student loan for my son which some was payed on but now all of a sudden it is 16, 000 and they told me I need to set up with my bank gave them my account numbers and routing which was a mistake. They told me after I go threw rehab for 9months then it would be picked up by another lender and my I 9 would go off my credit they were gonna take 2800 up front then 215 a month but now i changed my mind and told them what would it take to pay off total debt and they said 15000 nothing less they would not work out a lesser amount since i figured they were getting all payed off but no they want money that should not be there's and if not well they will garnish my wages .These people are very rude and yes they should be shut down without a doubt and the president of the united states will be hearing about them that is a guarantee .If you are willing to find a way to pay off the debt full out then they should be able to reduce the full amount but they want to add 4000 so they get there cut no matter what .I am going to borrow from my 401k to pay this off and then I have to pay it back weekly out of my check but at least I wont go through owing more even when done a lying rehab program .This country is becoming communist just like my mom and dad told me years ago and now I see it.I should of had a certified letter delivered to my address before it got this far and its just because they can make money what a gimmick they got going.I wish then luck because they will be shut down without a doubt its just time.

I'm the same boat as you guys. I'm on the "rehab" program also but I have to say the ones I've spoken with have been really nice. I'm paying $460 a month which is more then my rent. I've practically begged them to lower my payment but they insist that it can't be done. If I had known the TRUE price of higher education I would have gone a totally different route it's just not worth it and shame on our Govenment

I too defaulted on my loans and was sent to GRC. I also was told i would only have to be on the program for 9 months and also got a phone call stating that because of the economy i would have to continue to pay for 4 more months. The problem i have had was that when they first contacted me i did not argue payment, however i said i could not start until the first of the next month because it was already past my pay date. They said that if i did not pay within 5 days i would not qualify and they would garnish my wages and i would not be able to go back to school with loans and FA. I talked to the supervisor who's name was Debora i believe and asked if she could send me a copy of what i would be paying and a contract type of form that said what the situation would be if i continued to pay and what she told me was that she was not my personal secretary, she screamed at me so loud that my husband could hear her yelling at me from across the room. She told me i was a failure and if i didn't make my payment they would take everything i had. I was so upset finally my husband got on the phone and nothing was settled so i hung up and avoided them until the next month when i got my paycheck. Of course when i answered they were nice and set me up with monthly payments of $140 per month starting in February of 08. Well since i had not started making payments until Feb. they held my whole income tax return. When i called they told me too bad and no that doesn't cut down my payment process since they had to take it from me. I was able to write a letter explaining my situation and was able to get most of it back but it was a hassle. In April i had lost my debit card. I called and talked to a woman by the name of Jackie to let her know my situation. She explained that i had 15 days to make payment, so i had arrange with my mother to give her my payment and she would call and pay with her card. I called and left messages because she was going to be leaving town and i needed to do it before she left. I never got a call back. These call started on Friday and i finally got a hold of someone on Monday and Debbie got on the phone and was like, "wheres our money? and i told her that i had left messages and she kept cutting me off while i was trying to tell her what was happening and that i was willing to have it wired to them and that Jackie said i had 15 days and she said Jackie was not in charge and that since my money was not there that i was kicked off the program. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she said that she was the supervisor and that once again im a failure and that she feel sorry for my kids that their mother cant pay her bills. After all of this i got a phone call in late march saying that they would let me back in the program at $170 per month so of course i agreed because after all is said and done i feel that they will forever control my life until i pay them off. Recently i got the application to be rehabilitated so i guess i will see what happens. According to them my loans will come off my credit, i will be able to return to school woth Finacial aid and will be picked up by new lender, and i can have my loans deferred while attending school. If anyone was promised all of this and did not recieve please let me know so i know what to do.

" I was told that if I did not repay my student loan, my employer may be contacted and asked to withhold a portion of my earnings. How is this possible?
A: The U.S. Department of Education has been given the authority for "Administrative Wage Garnishment" under Section 488A of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended. This law authorizes the Secretary of Education to seek recovery of outstanding student loan debts through the offset of up to 10% of the disposable pay of employed individuals who have defaulted on their student loan obligations."

from THEIR website! They LIE>.. and break laws.. this is PROVEN by them on their site.. FAQs.

NOT only did they tell me the same thing.. setting me up on ungodly monthly amounts for 9 months that lasted a year.. telling me that they HAD to be automated to qualify.. (later found a tiny note on paperwork saying that it was *preferred ) then they didn't transfer me to someone else. Upon reviewing the statements i found out that less than 5% of what i was paying went to my loans.. I paid $350 a month for 1 yr just to have my balance drop by like 300 dollars! not to mention when I didn't get picked back up I faxed in paper work to "have it moved to a deferred or lessened amount" and then recieved a letter saying i NOW owe MORE than the original amount i had previously and need to start the process over again...WHATEVER.. they can't take more than 10% and with all my research on this company I"m going to call a lawyer because their math doesn't add up..

Oh yeah did I mention they took money a day early bouncing my account and refused to put it back or pay the bounced fees? I hate this company and can't wait to speak with my lawyer about how to shut them down. Anyone working for them should feel ashamed.

General Revenue Terrible experience

I know these people are contacting me about defaulted student loans. I cannot pay them. I called Sallie Mae to negotiate payment, pointing out that I have no contract with anyone but them. After several calls from GRC--whose employees were interested more in bully tactics than in conversation--I sent a letter via Certified Mail demanding no further telephone contact, and that any further communication be only in writing.

The letter was acknowledged, and the calls continued. I then contacted the Attorney General where I live. According to him, GRC denied all. The calls did stop, however--and I never did get the written communication I'd requested. Now the calls are starting again. No message left; just air if I answer). I AM willing see what we can negotiate. I've read from various sources that they have been successfully sued for ignoring requests to stop calling (and failure to follow up in writing); elsewhere I've read that suing them is futile.

If I were to sue them, it would not be for money; it would be to get them to comply with the law (although I could use the settlement to make them an offer..!).

Not sure what to do at this point. They ignore Certified Mail; they lie to the SAG.

General Revenue began calling my office trying to locate a temp, part-time employee that worked for us. My role is office manager/receptionist. GR began harassing me and other employees – for the outstanding loan this temp employee. GR was horrid, demanded if I didn’t let them talk to someone in payroll – in order to garnish wages – demanded to know about me and my role, and said I must be hiding something because I said no. They wanted to know who I was and accused me of being her. We’re are a six-person firm, and I and our controller have spent more time on this incredibly illegal GR than we have on our business in the last few days. These people are professionals at intimidation and harassment. I have filed a complaint to the FTC and demanded they never call again. Icing on the cake -- they wanted to know why I was upset.

For anyone that gets a collection call from another employee – you do not need to even talk to these people. I wish I knew last week what I know now.

This company has called our home number more than 40 times. They are looking for Justine Stewart, a person we do not know. Nor have we ever heard of her. I have told them this numerous times that we have no information. Yet they continue to call at least once a day - sometimes 3 times a day.
There is a disabled person in this household that is very upset with these calls.
Can you help us?

Thanks!

The problem is, What Money? I did what I was supposed to do, go to college, get a job and work my ### off... I have only been able to barely afford a car and a place to rent. Month to month we struggle and are going pay check to pay check. I have a 5 year old girl and a fiance that is unemployed still ( 1 year and not for lack of trying!) Cry babies? Oh and BTW PAID, IS SPELLED PAID, NOT PAYED ITTRUE. Really? Both my fiance and I have lost our jobs over the last three years and it took a long time just to be able to keep the bills paid. The company I work for now (after I was finally able to get a permanent job) has cut bonuses, doubled insurance cost to the employee and cut any other benefits. Example, they used to buy us lunch on the 16 hour days for month end. Now they don't and we are eating our ramen soup because we get our 15 minutes break and get back to work so we can get 6 hours of sleep. Salary rhymes with Slavery and in my experience, it is the modern way for companies to buy you 24 hours a day 7 days a week. And thanks to our economy they get us to give up our shreds of life for a bargain price... Exactly what we were told the minimum we would be paid if we spent all this money on school. I haven't been and am not able to spend my $80 a month disposable income on a loan that I can not afford. It's like buying a ferrari when all you can afford is a KIA. Tired and ready to die. 32 years old.

On a Sunday Afternoon I was called and was left a phone ; it said hi "my name" this is Tanisha Wethermore please give me a call at [protected], your reference # is "9999999". I called back and asked what the company does and the lady said "I don't know it depends on who you are." I said " I am a concerned citizen". I don't have any known outstanding unpaid bills but I suspect that they are trying something underhanded, and unethical. If they are a reputable company they would just tell me what they are about.

Ok...so this is roughdiamond checking in again...I actually paid GRC on time for 9 months for my student loans and they stopped taking my tax refunds...now my student loans are out of default and have been transferred to a new lender...i'm eligible for financial aid again to go back to school and I've never been happier so I will have to disagree that GRC is a ### company...my experience with them has been good...My advice: Set up the payment plan. I mean their job is to collect the debt...bottom line...respect the fact that they have to do that...if yall would stop ducking and dodging your bills your life would be much easier...i'm just sayin

Yes, most of the debt collectors themselves are posting. They have to come and see what people are saying. Nice try. Your language gives you away. Whenever I get a debt collector call, I ignore it when I am unable to pay them anything. I have learned in the past that there is no talking with them. Sometimes situations and circumstances happen in life that is beyond your control and it just can't be helped. What I have done in the past is when I get the money, I go directly to the one that I owe the money to and cut the debt collector right out. I get proof of payment and there is nothing that they can do about it. You can take them to court, so it is wise to get a lawyer in some cases and then they'll be oweing you. Rule #1, Don't pay what you don't owe.

General Revenue Phone abuse

Abuse by phone, upon verbal request not to contact me by phone, GRC associate stated he'd call as often as he wanted and keep calling.

Spoke with Michael Schneider @ [protected] sent fax to: [protected], notifying them not to call or contact me unless through the mail.

Mr. Schneider was kind and stated he'd move my phone number to the no call list.

In response to that last worthless post. I do not owe student loans however was called by this company at work. I was told that I had racked up 12 grand in loans from University of North Dakota. I then had to provide them with personal information to prove that I was not the person that they were looking for. This is complete [censor]. Now I have to wonder which family member they called and now thinks that I have a debt collection agency after me. Their research practices for people that actually owe them money is one thing but I DO NOT! They can just pull [censor]ing names out of a hat and harass them at work...and putting my number on a no call list...[censor] THAT! Take my name and personal information from your computer all together! Learn how to do your [censor]ing research! When I returned their phone call the first time they said the person that owed the money had the same birthdate as me and so I called them back to see if they were legit and now they say they are looking for someone with the same name but a different birthdate. Do they even [censor]ing know...Well thank you General Revenue Corporation for bothering someone at work who doesn't even owe you money...I am innocent and the [censor] will not even remove my phone number from their system. [censor] YOU GRC [censor] YOU!

General Revenue Harassment / malpractice

Want to get them back?!

The companies real name is GRC, or General Revenue Corp. They are owned by Sallie Mae and do all of their collections for the company. GRC's Info is below, along with 3 easy steps on how to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau for Illegal Practices.

The following link takes you to a site which outlines what collection agencies are and are not allowed to do (like calling you outside of normal business hours at work, or whenever you specifically say it is inconvenient for you) - (http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/rules/collection-calls-5.html). They were recently sued for malpractice and if you read the link above you were probably a victim of malpractice, like myself. They are relentless!

[protected] (No response number or "Dummy Number")

Or call Michael Schneider of GRC...He responded to the BBB letter submitted below saying that their employees are "thoroughly trained" and my statements of harassment were unfounded...
His number is: [protected].

If Mr Schneider doesn't believe my claims, perhaps a few hundred calls will convince him of his "thoroughly trained" employees illegal practices.

PLEASE CONTACT THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU ABOUT THIS COMPANY.

Easy step to follow:

1. Go to Better Business Bureau Website:
https://odr.bbb.org/odrweb/public/GetStarted.aspx

2. Use the Info above for GRC City/State/Web info to file against Sallie Mae/GRC

3. File a complaint addressing your issue, similar to the one I filed, below.

BBB Representative,

I have mentioned several times to both to GRC (General Revenue) and Sallie Mae Representatives that it is both inconvenient and inappropriate when GRC (calling on behalf of Sallie Mae Collections) is calling me any earlier than 8am Pacific Standard time or on the weekends.

This morning (Sunday) as well as yesterday, I received several calls from phone number [protected] (GRC) without any voice message or contact information. All were received before 8am and another was received as early as 6:15am on Sunday morning! While at work I also received a phone message from a family member saying that GRC had contacted them. GRC not only disclosed the dollar amount that I owed, but that I was delinquent and they inferred she would be responsible if they were unable to get a hold of me. Obviously, this family member had no idea what the situation was and became frantically worried about me. She had no idea (nor had I at this point because no one had left a voice mail) that my account was only 10 days overdue and not one late fee had even been assessed yet! This family member is in no way related to these loans and was randomly called.

All of my information listed for Sallie Mae is both current and valid. I believe what GRC did by contacting someone about my debt and disclosing my financial information is bordering, if not blatantly illegal.

It is NEVER appropriate for any collections company to call my family member/neighbors/co-workers etc about my financial issues, nor do these have any influence in the situation. There would be no reason to contact them.

I have several Student loans through Sallie Mae and I have never made a payment more than 30 days past due.

I understand my rights and I have notified both Sallie Mae and GRC that I have reported them for poor business practices. If their employees do not know my rights they should have them review the following link:

http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/rules/collection-calls-5.html

Particularly Section 805(a): Collection calls to consumers. If it happens again, you may expect a call from my attorney.

I have received multiple rude calls from these idiots attempting to collect a debt from someone I've never even heard of. I don't recognize the name. I've told them repeatedly I don't know this person and to please remove my phone number from the account in question. They get rude and snyde each time, calling me by this person's name and telling me that if I just pay the bill they'll go away. I am not this person, it's not my bill, and I will not be paying it. How do I get these ###s to remove my number and leave me be?

What CTU- Online in my case was fraud. I never attended any class online, never had a teacher or subject. I never seen a contract, nothing. What CTU did was call me get all my info full name, social, and address and then when i quested them as to what the costs where they gave no answer, they made untrue statements and that is fraud no contract is valid when you have no idea as to what your siging up for . They just kept calling and then when i did not cooperate they sent me a 713.00 bill. Lets speed up now. we are 3 years later, that bogus bill went to 3 collection companies and was rejected . They have had the BBB on their ### and now have sold that bogus debt to another college that I have had no contact with . I only know because the last collection co said so. They refused to give the new school / paper mill/ address & phone to me . At no time was this false debt valadated. It was all fraud, CTU knew they could not fit me in a class and they never gave any dollar amount . They just wanted to send a bill of 700 to as many people as they can weather or not if they could offer a service. It's called Fraud. Duress
When someone unlawfully pressures you to make a contract against your will, it's called duress. A contract made under duress isn't enforceable. An example would be a person holding a gun to your head to get you to sign a contract.

Fraud and Misrepresentation
Fraud and misrepresentation are false statements used to get you to make a contract. They must relate to a present or past important fact that you rely on. A fraud is a deliberate misstatement of a fact. An example would be if someone sold you a table they said was an antique, knowing it to be a reproduction. A misrepresentation can be an innocent misstatement.

If you're a victim of fraud or a misrepresentation, you can cancel the contract. A defrauded party can sue the wrongdoer for damages too. A victim of fraud may also have other remedies under the law of consumer fraud

I just moved into a new apartment and I made the mistake of getting a landline. I just receieved a phone call from General Reveue Corp asking me if I knew my neighbor. I don't any of my neighbors. What is unnerving is the fact that she addressed me by name. When I asked her what this was regarding, she informed me it was to collect a debt. I asked her how she got my information. She hung up on me. I called the number back and this time got a different person. When I asked him for the companies contact information he told me he didn't know it. He informed me that the company was well within their rights to contact the neighbors of an individual in order to collect the debt. I don't think this is true so I reported it to the BBB. Not sure how far this will go, but it is a start.

You obviously understood what I was saying Ms. Webster or you wouldn't have replied. Nevertheless, you should be proud that folks like me exist. Filtering out the [censor] in this world is a necessity for the average joe to get by in life, since we don't have deep pockets like you to pay for the rest of the worlds debt. Your [censor]ing high and mighty attitude has blinded you to the fact that 30% is added to all cost of everything because of theft and no paying irresponsible mother [censor]ers. I'm tired of paying for others to be [censor]ing dead beats, if you don't understand that, OH well sista go burn you stack of $100 bills in your fire place. Hey, Thomas300, you can hardly speak the english language. Before you criticize people, why don't you make sure that they will understand what the [censor] you're saying. You have no comprehension of grammar, and your endless complaints lose any and all credibility when the person reading it can hardly understand what the hell you're saying. I get that you hate doctors, lawyers, and anyone who has pursued a secondary education, but maybe you should spend less time criticizing people who are trying to do things with their lives, and more time learning to speak and write the language of the country you live in. Here's one free grammar tip: highfalutin is one word, not two. If you can't use a word correctly, don't use it at all. If we're lucky, no one will ever hear your [censored] ramblings ever again. I'm embarrased to live in the same country with people like you, and you should get a [censor]ing life.
Sincerely,
Merriam Webster

You stupid college snot nosed little whip dick know all . Your School hired GRC, to forward paperwork to you to let you know something is going on with your account and the letter tells you why they are trying to reach you. But since you [censor]ing know it all, ignore it. Let your penalties and interest pile up into a massive debt. The schools do make mistakes at times when people are in default or in school deferment, it just happens, if you are to the good, it is the consumers responsibility to provide the proof. that's just the way it is. If you changed schools or had a lapse in attending and didn't file your deferment paperwork your loan will fall into the defaulted category and turned over to a collection agency such as GRC. Wether you are due in 2014 for you payments or not, you failed to file some type of paperwork, or else why would they contact you. Ah Duhhhhhhhhhhh
DO THE RIGHT THING AND CALL THEM AND THEY WILL EXPLAIN TO YOU WHAT YOU FAILED TO DO, OR provide them with proof of your
in-school deferment status, and you will be removed from the mailing and the calls on your account. Don't be so [censor]ing arrogant that you don't respond. It will cost you dearly in the end. TRUST ME, I forgot
to do this on one of my loans and it cost me 5% interest on the loan and
23.75% in collection fees. I didn't give them a change of address, so they had no idea how to reach me, so it when to a collections agency to
try and locate me and establish contact, they found me. It's easy to miss
one little piece of paperwork not getting filed, at the time I had 14 loans
out, all my others were in good standing, so I had to bite the bullet and pay on this on since I didn't follow the instructions on that loan, I flat out missed it. But they were very easy to work with me an affordable
payment plan to fit my budget. They were the most professional folks
I had ever dealt with in a adverse situation. Like I said sine you know it all go ahead and avoid the contact or the proof of ' YOUR RIGHT", AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. If you are right and the school is wrong, so be it.

BUT WHAT IF YOU ARE WRONG... PREPARE YOUR POCKETS
THAT'S ALL I'M SAYING... Do the right thing, make the contact
and clear it up quickly.

I just filed a complaint with the FCC for mail fraud committed by GRC. I received a letter stating my student loans were being reported as "severely past due" by the lenders of my student loans! Funny, my loans have been in in-school deferments for months and, therefore, no payment is due until 2014. Why would they send some phony letter trying to scare those of us who pay our bills on time? How odd is that?! I was told that they just want to let me know that in the event that I ever have problems paying my loans, that they are there to help. In the meantime, the girl puts me on hold to contact both of my lenders to confirm that my loans are in good standing. I even had to verify myself to DLS while the GRC rep was on the line, giving my SSN, address, and DOB. I should have declined the verification process and ended this farce once and for all.

If you are in good standing with your lender and have received this misleading bogus collection letter, be sure to report GRC to the FCC and BBB!
