Subject: Snow Removal Work Order

On 12/22/09 I gave your company, Gray's Outdoor Services, a $125 deposit for Snow Removal Service for the 09/10 Season. This contract is for 2"+ snow fall. There have been two occasions since 12/22 where we have had more than 2" of snow.

The first time you didn't come out, even after I called in the late morning to remind you and hope that you hadn't forgotten me. You assured me your crew would be here shortly, but they never came. You ended up coming 2 days after the snowfall to clear the driveway and walk, which was a nice gesture, but missed the whole point of the service contract.

Again last night I got a voicemail from you assuring me that your crew would be out in the early morning hours, "after the snow started letting up, " to clear the driveway and walks. You even had the audacity to ask for the final payment for the balance of the contract. Naturally, I believed you would be out sometime in the morning to clear the snow as promised. At 11:00 I finally had to go out and shovel myself out of the driveway to get to my job. No follow up call. No service. This is not the service that was described and promised to me at the time of the work order.

I expect a complete refund of the $125.00 paid to you on 12/22/09 immediately. I have no confidence that you intend to service my drive and walks as promised, as your words have proven meaningless. This being said, I no longer want or need your future services for snow removal.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble, Cindy . . . but not surprised.

I hired Gray's Outdoor Services to remove a maple from my yard and grind out the stump. Everything seemed to be going well when one of Gray's people told me that the grinder had broken. I didn't think much of it and went back in the house. A while later, Tom Gray knocked on my door to collect his $1, 600. I wondered about the pile of wood chips that were where the tree had been, and Tom said that those were left there to decompose and fill in the hole. Sounded reasonable.

A few weeks later, I decided to remove those chips. Guess what I found!? There was a stump that was 7 feet across and up to 5 inches high! Gray's had covered up their shoddy work, took my money and left.

I called Tom that afternoon. He said he was on the other line and would call me back. He didn't. The next day I called him from another phone. He hung up immediately.

I have the Better Business Bureau working on this, as well as the Michigan Attorney General's office. I strongly encourage you to do the same.

The Attorney General's website to file a complaint is https://secure.ag.state.mi.us/complaints/consumer.aspx. The lady I've been working with at the Better Business Bureau is Marsha Peskin. Her phone number is [protected] and her fax number is [protected].

I hope you follow through with this, Cindy. It's a shame that such an unethical person is allowed to operate a business in Michigan.

I will check this site later to see if you've responded. If you do, I'll give you my email address so we can talk more privately.
