I have filed a complaint with the Attorney General and attempted to get a lawyer to address the issues that I was faced with at this so called university.

We as struggling students have no support when it comes to a privately owned university. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Burue and I am asking that others who have found that they had been lied to, monies taken away with no adequet service please file a complaint with the BBB, this is our only options.

I will tell you know that they will turn the tides with lies and your information to attest that they did everything they needed to do to address the problem.

The more of us who speaks up, the better it will be for future students.

Hello!
I found this nice list of comments by accident. I am looking for myself to read their Incomplete policy. I dislike GCU and feel completely lied to and trapped by them! I had a close death, lost my home, needed to leave my state for life insurance policy issues and needed to drop my class. Well, every time I tried to call them, I never had my academic advisor return any of my calls. Ashley Seres and the one before her can say what they want, but I called repeatedly. I often tried to drop with other academic counselor, they told my only mine could add or drop me. Here we go..it was finally 4 weeks in and I withdrawal. I felt obligated to pay, even though I had no one to talk to. So, I went on because of my financial aide period and also wanted to get back to work. This is when I lost my house. I was only in for a week & when I tried to drop, they told me I was 100% responsible for the class..I failed! I was told I had a $2000 balance..UNLESS, I retook the class there. Well, I am currently renting a home, trying to get my life insurance money & my whole County (Cumberland, NJ) was just NAILED by a storm. I was out of electric, so was family, and library NOW I AM going to FAIL this class! I will owe them out of pocket money & when I am ready to go back to Liberty (I love them), I need transcripts before I can enroll! WHAT AM I GOING TO DO? I am not a green student. I have a lot of credits & well on my way to gaining my BA in Psychology/Counseling. This is going to ruin my life! RUIN IT! Without a BA, I can't become a Counselor for inner-city teens. You know what they told me when I told them I needed to drop, because I needed to seek medication & mental breakdown help from a psychologist the second day of the second week of class? "Once you post into the class, you become 100% responsible financially for my class." I said "But I need help, you know I am mentally unstable right now & I tried to stay in college to remain normal." She said, "It is GCU policy that you post in you pay 100%" NOW, if I were to pass this class, I would somehow end up with a balance with them IF I wanted to take another class there. Since my financial aide period is up in Aug 2012, I am free to go back to Liberty with my needed required transcript with no balance. Does that make sense? I don't understand & maybe they are doing the math right, my point and complaint is that I felt obligated & forced to stay in these classes. Even after the death, & my house..trying to come back to get normal again..after posting in class a couple of times over the first week, I would have a 2000 balance & was made to clear it up by retaking the class with them.
Sorry so long, but I have had too much trouble there at GCU & I am not one to ever complain.

I attended GCU and actually finished a Master's program back in 2009. I returned to begin a second master's program. i went through some medical issues and immediate surgery and a family death after a couple of days or so and requested a "withdrawal". After sometime I get a phone call telling me that I owe them 4, 000 dollars or more. I said for WHAT? They said I didn't drop in time and they have been calling me and calling me. First of all I had grievance and uncontrolled circumstances. I simply needed time off to get it together so that I could return. I enjoyed my first experience there and wanted to finish their again. I am so hurt and mad that my own alumni in which I had three family members attend because of my first experience would do me this way. They have denied me transcripts, recommendations, etc. They literally have trapped my future in bettering myself for employment and furthering my education. But the GOD I serve will get me out of this scam!

Hi,

My issue is pretty current. I was DISMISSED from my Master’s in Special Education because of a failing grade. Now, to be perfectly honest, I did have this happen before and was put on academic probation. I was able to bring up the grade and move on. This time I was called by my academic advisor who I had never spoken to before (Stephen Glassman) is his name. Nothing was ever mentioned about them dismissing me for 2 years! Then that same day I get a call from Jacob who was another advisor stating that they were dropping me and I had no recourse whatsoever. I also had some awful things happen to me but, that didn’t matter.

I received my undergraduate at GCU and was 4 classes shy of my M.Ed. in Special Ed. Yes, I was in the wrong for failing the last class. I take full responsibility for it. But, couldn’t I have talked with someone about this? 4 more classes and I could be in a special education program helping these students with their academics, life skills, behavioral issues, etc...

Now what the heck am I going to do?

One thing that I have learned is that GCU is accountable to the Az. Commission for Private Post Secondary Education. You can file a complaint with them. I have had the same experience with GCU, feel that I wasted my time there and will be filing with this organization as well as the BBB.

I am with you. I to am being taken advantage of, I am contacting the BBB and my attorney general. This is unacceptable for an establishment to treat people this way. I feel I have been lied to gain my trust and money. Thank You Deb...

Do not judge and you will not be judged. How do you call a person who speaks his or her experiences uneducated? Something, that they feel or have experienced. It is a real situation that they've gone through. Just as you can be perceived as a poor minded uneducated indivudual. So, your daugher goes to GCU not like its Harvard. And the way you are braging makes me wonder how much education you have. If I were to discuss my level of education and work ethic you probably couldn't compete. I speak four languages which english is not my first. I will not discuss my level of education with you I know it would be difficult for a person like you to understand.

As far as Christianity goes, if people who say they are true Christians read the bible followed Jesus and did not fear God(God is loving, how can someone who is loving be feared) the world would be a better place. Don't use the Lord to harbor your ignorance just as this school who says they have Christian values have alot of employees who are not Christians nor are they Christian like. As a true christian, I have to say I have to pray for you and yours alike. Because, it is only God that can judge..

I am so sorry! I go on spouting off to you and didn’t even read the full stream. I apologize. I have an issue with GCU also. I’m not quite sure how to word it though.

When you make a complaint here, it would be useful if you explained what happened so the reader can get a better idea of what happened. I'm trying to see if this is a good school or not and the only thing I have to go on is that you had a grievance that wasn't answered to your satisfaction. That does not mean that the school didn't attempt to help you. For all the reader knows you can be a very irrational person that feels entitled to have all situations go your way. If you're going to post here, be informative - tell us the issue you tried to resolve, the steps you took and the replies you received from the university. Otherwise, you're not helping.

I have had a near identical experience with this school. And you are correct, they will turn facts and words and in some cases openly lie to make it seem that they did everything within their power to prevent the disdainful outcome. I have also filed a complaint with the BBB and all that they were able to do was shake their proverbial finger. GCU's response was that I could file a grievance with the school and try to get the issue resolved. A lot of good that does! I also contacted the Attorney General of my state who did a bit more on my behalf but it looks as if I'm going to have to contact a private attorney. But I say if their are enough of us we could file a class action suit against the school and make it a high profile case.
