Goodyear / Credit card scam!

1 United States Review updated:

I took my car into Goodyear for repairs. They told me that if I sign up for a Goodyear credit card I would not have to pay the bill for 6 months. Well, I got the first bill and since it said the balance wasn't due until 6 months later I just put it aside. Next thing I know, I got a letter saying I was past due for the initial $14 minimum payment and that I was also being charged an additional $29 late fee.

I called to complain and they said they'd waive the late fee if I paid via check over the phone. But they said that would cost an additional $14.95. When I mentioned predatory lending practices they agreed to waive that fee also. I paid it up to date at that point and will keep paying the minimum due until it's over with. At that time I will promptly terminate the card.

But today, I got a letter in the mail that said they had already reported the missed payment and that could effect my credit rating. If it does, I will make it as painful for them as it is for me.

Avoid scams like this. Do not sign up for a Goodyear credit card.

Your local Store needs to know their program!! It's 6 months no interest with a minimum payment required ON TIME every month, pay in full by end of the time period, they do also have 90 days same as cash( no payment required- just pay in full by end of the 90 days.

KAREN BROWN IS CORRECT... 6 MONTHS WITH NO INTEREST IS THE PROGRAM... EVIDENTLY THE CUSTOMER MISUNDERSTOOD WHAT WAS SAID... I'VE BEEN A LOYAL CREDIT CUSTOMER FOR YEARS AND HAVE NEVER JUST "TOSSED" MY BILL ASIDE WITHOUT EXAMINING THE DETAILS OF IT... THE BILL STATES PLAIN AS DAY "6 MONTHS, NO INTEREST" IGNORANCE ISN'T AN EXCUSE IN THIS INSTANCE... SO, SO SORRY!!! ;)

Once it came time to purchase my tires with the Goodyear credit card, so that I could receive the Goodyear Rebate, I found out that the card could only be used at Goodyear affiliated stores. I was told by the Goodyear Customer service reps (I talked to two different ones prior to my tire purchase just to make sure) that so long as the card was used to buy Goodyear tires that all I needed was the receipt with the tire model and my name to get my rebate. Turns out the card could not be ran by my repair shop because they are not a Goodyear dealer. The rep that I spoke with while standing at the pay counter of my repair shop trying to get my card to work suggested that I have them remove the tires and buy them at one of their approved dealers. Not only was I told that the card would work for any business that sold Goodyears, I was also lead to believe that it could be used to purchase everyday items. That is not the case. Shame on me for not sending the fine print to a lawyer for examination, Shame on them for lying to and preying on their loyal customer’s naivety (ex-loyal customer that is)!
