Who does his financial situation have to do with his complaint? Oh, that's right: NOTHING.

Being impoverished has nothing to do with this discussion. Also, being poor =/= messy, sorry to break it to you. That's an example of prejudiced thinking, and a deplorable way to ascertain the "worth" of your fellow human beings. Also, referencing poor spelling and grammatical abilities as potential indicators of an individual's employment level is logically fallacious. Your writing abilities may be slightly more adept than the OP, but your logic is deeply flawed. Let go of such hatred, you'll be better off.

Goodwill Industries price on tag

I found a fake fur coat at the Goodwill Store in Hammonton New Jersey and it was priced @ .99. Thought awesome. Went to the counter and was told thats not the price on the item you cant have it.? So we went round and around and eventually called the cops to end the dispute. I was under the impression that you could only change the price label if you mark it down otherwise its illegal. Anyway basically the cop told us a store can change its price up or down if the store thinks the label was altered, In this case this would been impossible unless a storeworker possibly rigged it that way, Being it was placed on using a nylon thread tagger. Which was shot through the item twice even, Not just once. I t seems to me this goes on a lot at these stores judging by the complaints ive read across the board. These are obviously stores being run by people who are not trustworthy. Dont get me wrong this is not everyone there and you know who you good guys are, But unfortunately unless you weed out the losers they will bring the business down and end it all for everyone. Remember one thing. Everybody has there day! Just take a look at large department stores from the past and see for yourselves how theve changed hands, been bought out, GONE OUT OF BUSINESS. So STOP hiring what looks to be homeless losers who will obviously steal from you and if you think they will do anything less you deserve to be out of business and step it up a gear for your own sakes. Or the inevitable will happen. NO MORE GOODWILL.

I went to the same Goodwill store in Hammonton NJ, and what a surprised to me. The store was dirty, terrible disorganized, and even more somebody told me they having problems with bedbugs. So I did't buy anything at all. Prices are high like they are brand new. They do have brand new items but still too expensive. Last but not least, the Manager looks as Dirty as the Store, so What can we expect from it.

silly lady...goodwill isn't going anywhere...they are not losing anything lol...it is utter amusement that you are comparing them to any type of retail store...and you are right, some, or actually a great majority of the people working there are homeless and/or with physical or mental handicaps...that's very true..so hopefully, next time you'll maybe understand and have a bit more compassion when shopping at a goodwill

It's just like stuff that is not marked there and put out they are not allowed to sell. ok y isn't it marked and y is it in the store! Also, this stuff is donated hello! sell it for whatever or mark-it. Plus some of their stuff is overpriced.
I think that some1 in store was probably going to buy that themselves. It is a shame b/c I used to like shopping in there and told others about it but no more after an incident recently. From now on just shop CL.

Goodwill Industries Price changing and thieft

i have seen many things going on since the store first opened. this situation effected me. i went to make a purchase of a box unopened and sealed. the price was $6.97. as i was pulling this rather last box twards the register, someone who works at the warminster store asked if i wanted him to write on the box what was in in. (i didn't know!, i was in a "take a chance mood") sure i replied. he told me it was a basket ball hoop. i didn't think so, the weight felt more like a dismantled piece of furntiure. i then asked if he could open it up for me.he came back with premission to open it. all this took place on the selling flooor. when he went to open it, he drug the box into the "employees only" but the doors were open so i could see what i was buying. when it was opened it turned out to be some form of a electronic basketball shoot with 3 balls. he asked me if i astill wanted it, i replied "yes" he was staring to replace back in the box. just then the manager and a girl named "meg" come running over saying they will not sell it for the price on the item and started yelling to close the doors on me. i tried to explain how all of this happened. they now wanted time to appraise the item and price it. no one would listen to me. they shut the doors. i went to the register to pay for the other items i was purchasing and asked for a phone# to a superviser(no one knew it) the manager then comes over and tells me the item is now $39.99. i tried to explain again how this all came about. he was not interested. i am fine with goodwill pricing and i agree its for a good cause. i hated the way i was treated. like i was trying to steal it. which is funny because i have seen so much emplyee thieft in that store. the week of christmas 1 employee wheeled a shopping cart out of the back right to the register and another emplyee followed to ring her up. the same day while leaving i saw employees carring things from the customer drop off right to their cars. you have cameras, does anyone ever bother look at the tapes? i don't think the manager is involved but quite a few of the back room employees are. i can decribe the employees and their cars. the back room employees treat the custumers terrible. i believe the "company" of goodwill is of good standards but who are hiring these days?

Tried to take some jeans back but could not find the receipt but the tags were still on jeans. They would not even give me a store credit. I told them the khol's and walmart give you a store credit with out receipt. She said no they don't, i said yes they do. They get all there things free and won't give me a store credit for a $12.99 i will never donate anything to them again.

Here in ga goodwill theft's are bad, i've tried file complaints with corprate in atlanta and mr. grover cussed me out and told me it's none of my business, several goodwills here in atlanta have a theft ring going from magament down and will cover it up, buford, cumming, marietta, roswell store. jewlery is always being stolen store rules say's employee's are not allowed to buy from the store they work at. goodwill need's to be exposed and aired on tv and cable let's bring to scam to it's knee's, need video (cell phone, cam corders footage) help expose the real goodwill and stop donating real gold, silver valuable to goodwill, email contacts to creek1967@live.com so we can get it to the investagative media giants perfect for ratings, goodwill for profit only and does not help with foo, clothes, nothing so stop making them richer

Goodwill Industries rude customers and employees

yesterday i was at this store to buy some fans to work on ( i repair and collect vintage fans) and i found a clip on fan and a desk fan that weighs less then two pounds ( they charge by the pound) i usually get the 8 inch fans for a buck apeace, and they dont weigh them. but the cashier i went to yesterday weighed them and the scale did not register the weight, and the guy made up a price for them on his own without calling a manager, 5 bucks ( note i can get a 16 inch fan there for three bucks) so i went over to the manager on the floor and he said he could not do anything about the price,
another complaint i have is that in the same store i have found ceiling fans (which are illeagle to sell used in this state) and i have found a bunch of fans and other stuff that could not be repaired ( a duracraft stand fan that the head was completely seperated from the stand )

Goodwill Industries injured

I was injured at a Goodwill auction. While at the auction, a portable basketball goal, mounted to a steel post, fell on my head, injuring my neck. I have permanent damage to my neck. I had surgery back in January of 2009. They put in steel plates and donor bone. Surgery was around 200, 000.00. My insurance paid my hospital bill but think Goodwill should pay as well. Goodwill said they only have a $15, 000.00 policy. I'm crippled for life. I'm also still under drs care. I have gone to several lawyers, none will take my case. I have since found out, that a lot of the lawyers sit on Goodwill's board of directors. I have gone to my local tv station, who helps people with problems with companies, they would not help either. If anyone could help me, please do. I don't know what to do anymore.

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. Try contacting your local t.v. news station to see if they will do an investigation of Goodwill. There is something awfully wrong with an organization that does not have anyone in charge. I have tried to find out who owns Goodwill, who sets the high prices, etc... All I can find out is: Goodwill is locally owned by business owners and community members(huh?), the money goes toward training and employment of blind/visually impaired, mentally impaired, and people with disabilities. That's about all the information I can find. Now for some of my own observations: Goodwill makes tons of money--period. They may very well help a few people--but---just how many people with vision, mental, etc. disabilities live in any given area where Goodwill is? Not THAT many. Also, does anyone actually know ANYONE personally that Goodwill has helped? Goodwill does not "give" anything to anyone. They will sell you anything but never give you anything. All the aisles of new stuff that they have in the stores that they think we're foolish enough to pay their prices for--they actually buy the crap thinking it will bring in more customers(this was told to me by a Goodwill employee). Sounds to me like Goodwill needs to be thoroughly investigated and exposed. Something is very fishy with Goodwill. I almost think the government is involved with them because of all the secrecy and greed. Oh well, we shall see--maybe.

UPDATE: I finally got in contact with someone at Goodwill. I asked him for the President of Goodwill's name. He refused to give it to me. I then asked him he had notified the President of Goodwill, he never did answer. He is still making rude comments to me. I even told him to take me to court so I could get this out in the public. I'm still under doctors care. Please do not donate to Goodwill.

UPDATE:

First, I would like to think the people who have left comments. Keep the comments coming.

Now, to update everyone... Goodwill, or shall I say Goodwill Management is threatening that if I don't stop calling, they will get me for harassment. Now, remember, it was about a month ago that I was asked to call back. This person, who has threatened me, is the one who said, give him a few days to discuss this with another manager. When I called back, he had someone answering his phone. I was told he was busy or out of the office. When I could, I would leave a message on his voicemail asking him to return my call. He never did... I wasn't calling him all day long. I would call him a few times a week. I did this because I was ASKED to call him back. I believe in what I'm doing is right. I was sitting on a couch, minding my own business when this basketball goal fell on my head. I was seriously injured. They don't just do surgery on you to put a steal plate in your neck if you're not hurt. I have taken pictures at Goodwill Auction of how things are just carelessly placed. Its just a matter of time before someone else is injured, as I was. Not only are there adults at the auction, there are also children running around. Can you imagine if something was to fall on a child?

I was told by a lot of the people who attend the auction not give up. They were there when this happened and know how badly I was injured. I have several witnesses who saw the basketball goal fall on my head. I will not give up. I believe Goodwill Auction is in the wrong and should pay for my medical expenses, along with my pain and suffering.

Whether you believe I'm right or wrong, you can email me at toycollector57@msn.com

I am really angry that Goodwill industries cannot help this person that got hurt in one of their stores. This injury has injured them for life and they do not have the decency to help. The sad thing about this situation is that Goodwill is supposed to help people and they cannot even help a person who was using their store to help others. A comment was made about how other organizations you will hear of all their good works but you really never hear anything about what Goodwill has done for others. What are they doing with the money that is being obtained from people who are donating items? Everytime I go into Goodwill their merchandise seems to be the same price as a new item. In my opinion this company is running a scam. I will never shop there again and I will recommend to others, my family, and friends to not patronize or donate to their stores.

i just got done reading about the guy who was hurt at goodwill and i didnt think they were that kinda store. i thought they was out to help not hurt folks. i shope there all the time but am thinking twice about not shoping there anymore. i sure wouldnt want to shope at a store if they dont wanna pay if u get hurt at there stores. i have been to different stores where things were lying out where somebody could get hurt. they should be responsable like any other store, if u get hurt on there property they should pay ur medical and pain n suffering.. i really hope they come around and start helping you. i will be telling my friends not to shope or denote to goodwill.

Just an update. Now they want to play mind games with me. I talked to someone at Goodwill Management on Friday, August 21, 2009. They told me they would see what they could do for me and for me to call back on Monday, August 24th. I called back several times yesterday, and guess what? He would not answer my calls or return them. This isn't the first time he's done this, so I shouldn't have been surprised. I have called him several times today, August 25th and guess what again? He still refuses to answer my calls or return them. Now, why would someone say call back on a certain day and time then not answer the call? Goodwill Management, thats who. They claim to do so much for the needy. Yet I have never heard their name mentioned anytime a disaster has happened. They get free help in their stores from people who are doing community services. I'm injured for life and they think it's a joke. They don't have to wake up every morning in pain or go to sleep every night in pain having to wear a neck brace. But why should they care about my pain, medical bills and long time suffering from the injury.
So if you have donations, take them somewhere else. Take them where they really do care about people. Instead of Goodwill who are only looking out for their company not the people they claim to help or the ones who get seriously injured on their property. They think it's all a big joke...

Goodwill Industries rude manner

Today, July 23, I shop in Goodwill store, the font desk cashier charge me 5 cent for the recycle fee. I said I bring my own bag and I don't need this. The lady is so rude and told me she input the amount (5 cent)cash machine already, ask me take the clothing or get out of here. I finally paid the recycle fee and told her better ask people before you charge, she answer me " I will charge you next time again if I see you "... only 5 cent that sale lady insult to me and I get the plastic bag that I don't want...

Goodwill Industries unfair employee ethic

It seems that this company has very poor work ethic. This is especially true in the two charter schools they had. They intimidate their employees and never listen to the employees if there is a problem. At the beginning of the year the principal at the Woods campus was fired from what was said "budget cuts." In addition, there have been three heart attacks as a result of the stress the company puts on its employees.; two of which have resulted in death. The first employee complained to a coworker that something was wrong and could someone watch his class. His coworker assumed the teacher couldn't handle the class and ridiculed him for it. She then got the Superintendent who immediately did the same thing. However, the Superintendent then fired the employee for this. the employee immediately went to the hospital where he was told he was having a heart attack. This is only some of the issues. When the new principal died of a heart attack the counselor (who has no administrative credentials) immediately took it upon herself to do as she pleased. Teachers were sent home because the counselor couldn't do her job.

Goodwill Industries charged a different price from marked price

My co-worker just told me that she went to the above-refenced Goodwill shop this past weekend, and found a lamp. It had two Goodwill price tags, both indicating the lamp was $3.99. As she walked to the register with this lamp and her other items (clothing), a female employee stopped her and said, "What a beautiful lamp! How much is it?" My colleague told her, and the employee gasped, "There must be a mistake; let me find the guy who priced it." Turns out this woman was a manager, and she returned with a man from the stockroom, asking if he remembers pricing it. He did not. But the manager would not allow the cashier to sell this lamp at the marked price; my colleague said, "Well, how much then?" to which the manager replied, "I can't let that go for less than $8.99."
The manager said that "someone must've changed the stickers."
Since my colleague had already set her mind on purchasing it, and could see this manager only increased the price because she wanted the lamp for herself (and most likely thought the customer would leave without it), she paid the $8.99.

This story infuriorates me. Is it not illegal to demand a different price for an item that is already marked? What government agency regulates this?

North Georgia Goodwill stores engage in "Bait" advertising [FTC / CFR Title 16] . Signs posted throughout all 30 or so Goodwill retail stores located within 25 miles of Atlanta, GA, post signs on the shelving in all of the Book sections clearly stating the pricing for hardback books: Children - $1.51 / Adult - $2.92. But, no section of the shelving is marked "Children's Books" - nor is any section ever labelled "Adult Books" - "hardcover", or "paperback". And yet, after spending 20 or 30 minutes sorting through a jumble of hundreds of all sorts of books (recipe, fiction, education, travel, etc.) scattered across several shelving sections and selecting a handful of Children's hardback books the Goodwill cashier will ring up each title at $2.92 - the full price of an adult hardback book - and not the store posted price of $1.51 for Children's hardback books. None of the individual titles are specially marked at any price and yet, each book has a "blank" colored price tag attached to it by Goodwill employees at each store location. When the error is pointed out to the Goodwill cashier and the manager is called to correct the entry, the Goodwill manager's explanation is typically "We want more for some books". Again, the posted signs do not read "most books" or "some books" are $1.51 - but that Children's Hardback books are $1.51. When I point out that the Publisher lists the title as "children's" as does Barnes & Noble, Second & Charles, Half Price Books, Amazon, eBay, CostCo, Sam's Club, the public library, and the local school system - and sometimes on the book itself - the manager insists that any book on the "adult bookshelf" costs more - but again - there is NO shelf marked "Adult Books - $2.92". What I object to is (1) any Goodwill cashier doubling the price of an item at the register; and (2) any Goodwill manager trying to claim that a "Children's Book" is not a "Children's Book". If it's not against the law for a cashier to ring up a higher price than the one posted in the store, or to misrepresent the qualities of the item being sold - then it should be. Check out "Bait Advertising" on the FTC web site and see if you don't agree that this is an illegal retail practice by Goodwill stores - it's not a "mistake" or an "isolated incident" - it is a deceptive practice.

Here it is again - and to repeat - None (0) of the children's hardback books that I was charged $2.92 for were "specially marked" and the only tendered explanation from the Goodwill store manage was that "we want more money for some books". And as an added bonus - the Goodwill manager claimed to have prior retail management experience! Yikes!

Check out "Bait Advertising" on the FTC web site and see if you don't agree that this is an illegal retail practice by Goodwill stores - it's not a "mistake" or an "isolated incident" - it is a deceptive practice. https://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=d9f93df5b3a9d234e03c57dd21a00c60&mc=true&tpl=/ecfrbrowse/Title16/16cfr238_main_02.tpl

Thing is- it's on private property. They don't have to sell you anything at all. They can charge whatever they want for it. Little children and adults both tamper with or switch tickets all the time. There are also pricing guidelines. It is their property until the money changes hands. They have every right to charge the correct price for each and every one of their items. It is also illegal to dumpster dive there as well. It is like I said on private property and they will prosecute those that do in a heartbeat.

This morning I accidentally saw the attached public post on the Facebook page of Lilian Kania, Goodwill Center Manager of the Murray, Ky and former Mayfield, Ky stores. I started putting things together and reading more and am outraged Mrs. Kania publicly humiliated a Goodwill employee on a public forum in 2012.

I do not personally know Mrs. Kania but, through her Facebook posts Mrs. Kania has shown me what type of person and Goodwill Center Manager she is. However, I do know the Assistant Manager that Mrs. Kania was referencing on Facebook.

The business decision that Mrs. Kania made public should had been kept private. As a manager of Goodwill Mrs. Kania was extremely unprofessional and egregious in her actions. Mrs. Kania spoke of demoting her Assistant Manager to the lowest of low as a production clerk and Mrs. Kania stated on her personal Facebook page the Assistant Manager cried as a direct result. Mrs. Kania stated business is business and it is what it is...lastly stating it "sucked" to demote her Assistant Manager. Several of Mrs. Kania's Facebook friends commented and supported her post. Unbelievable!

I think Mrs. Kania needs to be demoted to Quote: "the lowest of lows" a production clerk. What type of leader thinks that way? Is this Goodwills view? I am wondering who promoted this manager or hired her! That person needs some serious evaluation too.

Perhaps Mrs. Kania's lack of decorum and managing skills are why she isn't succeeding in her current management career of 9yrs with Goodwill and is posting on Facebook about personal issues, displeasure with working at Goodwill, feeling like a failure, back hurting from unloading a truck of "quality merchandise" that 80% of the donations don't see the sales floor... I'd have to ask myself, why? etc. Not to mention this lady has a trashy vocabulary and I certainly wouldn't want her leading people in my organization much less volunteering. Negative employee influence a negative work environment and now days everyone needs positive reinforcement and motivation. This managers attitude and persona definitely shows in her stores and I had no idea until two days ago she was the manager. No wonder people don't darken the doors.

I know very little about what went on with the demotion of the Assistant Manager but, I do know that employee and their work ethic as well as character. Perhaps the Assistant Manager was demoted by Mrs. Kania because she felt threatened by the new competition of this cultured and retired educator.. With help the manager got rid of the Assistant.

Getting rid of this employee wasn't going to improve this managers lack of skills... She's failed at everything and the numbers prove it. Good leadership comes from within! This manager needs to GO...!

I was thinking of buying a coach purse. Before I purchased it I had to make sure that it was authentic. I did not want to over pay for a fake purse so I researched it. It turned out that the purse was fake. I politely brought it up at the check out. I asked if the price would still be the same or if they were willing to go down. The manager went from being friendly to angry and rude. She could have politely said no. Instead she started telling me that a girl who prices the purses knows fake from reall and that the purse was real. She made me feel uncomfortable. I would shop at Goodwill from time to time. Due to this situation I will never step my foot in that store again. Neighter will i ever done anything there. Way to go Goodwill. Rude costumer service and over priced store. If anyone needs to stuck up on clothes only shop at Salvation Army. I always had great experience going there. I alays felt welcomed. Their prices are good. Did I mention every Saturday they have sale of 69 cents items left over for the color of the week! I usually walk about with close to 30 clothes items and only end up spending only $20! :)

There is Absolutely no reason to Justify the Theft of Donated item's by Employees of Goodwill! Employees at Goodwill get paid, The Manager's Make $40K Per Year, Some Customer's there rely solely on what Goodwill sales to make a living, How is a Goodwill Manager or Employee allowed to divert donated items for their own personal use? as opposed to the Needy Child or Customer with no job? State and Federal Law Strictly Prohibit any kind of Misappropriation of item's donated to a Non-Profit (501(C)(3)) Organization by Employees, There is a Pattern of widespread theft of donated items by Goodwill Employees throughout the United States! I am not saying all employees of Goodwill steal donations, But, if you are ever in a Goodwill Store and are wondering why there only seems to be a bunch of Worthless Junk & Trashy Clothes, well it's most likely because the Goodwill Employees have completely ripped the place off! And the Goodwill Store & Customer's are the victim's of this rampant Employee Theft of donated item's at Goodwill Store's.

This happened to me today at the Goodwill on Curry Ford Road! I went to purchase a coat that had a basic red tag on it, so it should have been $5.99. The cashier went to the back and came back to the register with a new tag with the price of $39.99! How can they suddenly change the amount as I am paying for it? Is there a way to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau?

The Managers at the Stevenson Ranch location in Santa Clarita are NASTY! Jim is the rudest and classless pc of work with zero management skills. He believes that they can sell close to retail for donated items. They sell merchandise as authentic and price it accordingly when in fact many are fake! How can they sell fake merchandise? Come on BBB or seven on your side get on this ban wagon and help the needy there is no win win situation here!

Goodwill sucks. Their prices have tripled in 2 years. I've been kicked out of 4 different locations, just for complaining about the prices. Just the other day, I said that I could buy a brand new Tee shirt for $4 at Giant Tiger, while they charge $5 for a used one. The cashier told me to go shop at Giant Tiger and get out of her store! I told her it would take a court order to do that. I still shop there for one reason. To buy items that they have mispriced. If you see me coming out of a Goodwill store with something under my arm, then you know I am going to make lots of money from it! They priced a bag of tea spoons at $5. Normally, that's way too much. Lucky for me I had my jeweller's loop and discovered they were STERLING! Approx. half a pound of pure silver. I feel even better knowing Goodwill is getting screwed on a sale. They are building and buying properties like crazy. No longer a thrift chain but a real estate holding company. (Which they buy with tax receipts) It's much worse than you all think. It's premeditated corporate profiteering.
Solution: Only buy items from them that are way undervalued. Then go down the street to the Salvation Army. Here are the prices people should pay for used items:
Tee shirts - $2, Dress shirts - $3, Jeans - $5 (max), Shoes (who would want to?) $5, Ties - $1, CD players - $5 (They're $14 at Wal-Mart), Coats - $10, Books - .50cents, I could go on but you get the point. If you want to sell high volume, sell cheap. I could turn over a million in sales with half the overhead ... and I wouldn't price bags of silver at $5. If they could only see the error of their ways, they might make money and still help people but greed at the top won't allow it. BTW, I started my own thrift shop and I did $3500 last month, by myself, in a small store, with crap I bought from thrift stores 10 years ago.

Goodwill Industries badwill

I have donated boxes upon boxes of nice stuff when we moved. Most boxes were carefully labeled. One was dropped off at the donation center and I didn't realize until about a week later when unpacking, that one of them was a box full of papers from my desk. We're talking file folders and accordion folders, full of birth certificates for my kids, and social security cards.

What did they do with them? Throw them out that night in the compactor. Did they hold it waiting for a call, or try to call the person who's personal information is splattered all in there? No. Not once.

Never, ever again will I donate. Ever.

They do get tons of stuff in donations everyday, and while i agree they should've realized what the items were when processed, things get messed up. The fact that they were given the box along with other stuff that you donated they may have assumed it was a box that for whatever reason was not wanted. So yes they should've realized it, but you should've too. With the cashier making up prices that is wrong. I know in IN they code everything priced over $1.99. a 7B means 7.99 blue. They have a big problem with customers switching price tags so its necessary to code. anything not coded is either 1.99 or less or has been taken out of the box that was coded. The cashier should've asked management or taken it back to the back to be priced again. On the no exchange no refund policy, i understand it's frustrating when something doesn't work or fit. But, i know that IN Goodwills changed their policy at the beginning of 2011. They had signs up at EVERY register they changed the signs by the doors. and on the bottom of their receipts it has the refund policy. The reason for the change was that Kentucky, Michigan, and Illinois stopped doing refunds and exchanges. IN decided it would be best to give in-store credit that you can use at any IN goodwill. People still get angry but when most people get their money back they just go spend it in the store again. but some people do fraudulent refunds to get extra money back or bringing crap from their houses that they didn't buy to get money back for. All i can really say for you is next time you should try on the clothes you want to buy, plug in or bring some batteries so you can test if something works, ask the cashier what the refund policy is, and last read your receipt for the refund policy. people get angry coz they can't get their money back after buying something then returning it after using it for 2 weeks because now they need gas money. if you don't have that money to spend, then DON'T SPEND IT.

oh! at least you got some credit slip. Guess what, I bought a white toaster at $4 at Goodwill shop at 17th Street in Cumberland Strip at Knoxville on 12/28/2009. I had seen similar toaster in Wallgreens at $10. So, I thought I could save some money. But when I tried to toast two pieces of bread that I usually toast, the bread simply did not fit in the toaster. I was shocked to see that the toaster was not useful at all. I immediately went back to the store on 1/2/2010 and asked the attendant if I could replace that with some other goods in the store. The lady was so rude that even knowing my problem, she was not ready to replace it at any cost because it was their policy - no exchange - no return. I requested it several times that I could get some other stuffs in place of that since I am returning the item within 7 days but she didn't listen to me. I even told her that it was not GOOD-WILL and rather it was BAD WILL and I may make complain to everyone that I come into contact about this issue. Huh! instead of listening to my plea, she threatened me to call police if I keep on disturbing her. Wow! what a shop and the lady, scaring me for $4. I thought I should call the police for cheating me but my friends persuaded me not to make it mess for $4. I had brought back the item without any damage within 7 days of purchase but it is surprising that the store can only return the good it is damaged. Since it is of no use to me, I left the white toaster in the shop. It is really frustrating to see such store working on donated items not working up to the people's satisfaction.

pardon me? your mad at goodwill because YOU weren't smart enough to give them the right donation box? that's your fault lady. All boxes are processed he minute they come through that door, so yes your stuff probably got thrown away. they get so many donations every day, how are they supposed to keep track of who loses what? they assume what you give them for donation you don't want, which is a pretty fair assumption. your the one who messed up.

I purchased a stik vacuum yesterday. I was assured by 2 staff that it worked. One of them was from the back of the store where the items are tested. I trusted his opinion. I paid CASH $9.99 plus tax. I tried it as soon as I got home. The carpet brush did not work. Absolutely no suction. Not just poor suction but NO SUCTION WHATSOEVER. I took it back the next morning. and lo and behold they give me a credit slip, NO CASH (as I had given them), so now I am obligated to buy another $11 of worthless overpriced stuff. Whey can't they, as any other store that respects itself, give the customer cash back?

And yes their stuff is overpriced considering they get it free. I wonder how much their CEO and top executives are being paid? maybe an investigation is needed. I am really pissed at their policy. I am on fixed income and really needed a vacuum cleaner.

Goodwill Industries Scam and theft

I and my fiance and daughter personally witnessed theft on several occasions by Manager Ginger Haase and her coworker Barb in the Thorndale Pa store. To make a long story fit into 100 words. They would go through items donated, take out all the valuables, jewelry, etc. have them prebagged and waiting for a friend Joanne Pacana to pick up on her lunch break. After complaining from bottom to CEO Ron Kratofil, he banns me from the store and ignores this. This woman still goes in on her lunch break and takes the valuable put aside. This is theft and needs stopped now. Where do I go if CEO condones this? HELp The public has a right to know where there items are really going!

In my opinion goodwill is not a charity anymore and they don’t even pay their employees a decent wage my son worked for them and they only payed him $7.50 an hour! Their e-commerce/auction site is a ripoff because they rip you off on shipping and handling for example a PS4 weighing 4 pounds you get charged for weight of the box it goes in and they lie about that even because they claim the box itself weighs 40 pounds! There’s no way it does and different stores charge different prices example a PS4 in California will cost you $39.99 shipping & handling yet the exact same system will only cost you $9.99 in Virginia! They claim it’s FedEx doing this no they are not because FedEx has a set price and they even stated this to me! Goodwill is a thrift shop so and people on a budget buy from goodwill and everything is donated to them so all the money they receive is 100% profit! So why won’t they try to save it’s customers money by shipping with USPS or at least give the customer the option of shipping with USPS! But they’re not to do that because they’re lying about the weight of package and most items are not even tested! And I believe they have implemented shill bidding to drive the cost of the Item up in price so customers have to pay even more money for merchandise if it’s not shill bidding then it’s flippers bidding against us and that’s just as bad if not worse in my opinion flippers should be banned from buying from ShopGoodwill because most of us buy merchandise for our own personal use! They do it for profit the reason why they’re not banned is Because they buy a lot of merchandise and Goodwill is greedy and they don’t care about you or me they just care about $$$! One last example last night I had bid on a broken PS4 and I was going to use it for parts to fix my broken PS4 because I cannot afford to buy a new one but at the last minute someone had outbid me for over $150 plus $30 for shipping for a broken PS4 you tell me that sounds right it doesn’t because even a flipper would not invest in it because there’s no profit to be made by them I wouldn’t doubt it was an employee trying to drive the price up! Well I guess they got stuck with it I was already looking at $70 and I might not have been able to use it! I think Goodwill needs to go out of business they used to be a good place to buy used merchandise this is before they got greedy though!

Please be aware that Goodwill's auction sellers (in my case their DENVER store) shipped two junk watches to me instead of the nearly $150 silver rings I bid on, won and paid for and...get this...told ME to try and get them back from the customer they inadvertently shipped them to!
After reporting to my Credit Card provider, who asked me to send them all correspondence between myself and the Denver Goodwill store, the auction site immediately shut down my account so I could not retrieve or access any of the emails.
They are horrible, dishonest people to deal with. Not that Goodwill had a good reputation anyway. And, despite what form of payment you choose to use, buyers have no protection against deceit and lies. Reporting them is a waste of time...they do NOTHING!
Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere! At least you will receive what you paid for, it will be the item pictured and described and you will have some way of recovering your lost money when you receive the garbage they are selling.
Someone needs to investigate this site and all the Goodwill stores participating in these scam auctions!
PLEASE DON'T BE THEIR NEXT VICTIM!

Goodwill is a big scam, I totally agree with all your comments. Ventura County Goodwill Inc Director of Operations and retail is a register sex offender and he oversea all stores in Santa Barbara and Ventura, he has employees selling Goodwill merchandise at the swapmeet in the Ventura County fair grounds. Do not donate anything to Goodwill, do your research, go to Ventura County Goodwill webpage and get the name of Goodwill Inc Director of Operations and retail, then enter his name in http://www.meganslaw.ca.gov/ and you will see for your self and it goes deeper then expected, were city officials are sponsoring Goodwill Fraud.

If you feel your complaints are not being listened to at the local level, you should contact someone at Goodwill International. Most people do not know that Goodwill's are independently operated, much like a franchise operation.

You should contact someone at Goodwill Industries International, the organization that charters Goodwill's across the nation and the world.

Their website is www.goodwill.org

I hope this is helpfu.

TO NO AVAIL. SINCE THEY KNOW THAT MANY REGULAR CUSTOMERS HAVE NOTICE THEY STILL CONTINUE TO
STEAL FILLING UP TRAVEL BAGS WITH ITEMS AND CARRYING OUT AS THEIR OWN BELONGING. IT IS SAD TO SEE THIS AS I COMMENTED TO ONE EMPLOYEE AND HE SAID HE CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABUT IT UNLESS
MANAGEMENT TAKES ACTION. THIS FAMILY RESELLS AS I WAS INFORMED AND ARE VERY AGRRESSIVE AND COMBATIVE AS THEY HAVE HAD MANY FIGHTS WITH OTHER CUSTOMERS INCLUDING MYSELF AS I DO NOT
LOWER MYSELF TO THEIR LEVEL OF USING VOLGAR SLURRS. THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY FEELING GUILTY AS
THEY APPROACHED ME WAIVING A RECEIPT THAT THEY PAID. THE STUPIDITY OF IT ALL THAT ALL THE

GOING TO THE POLICE TO FILE A REPORT ON THE VERBAL THEFTS AGAINST ME FOR HAVING DONE THE CORRECT THINGS.
