Golden Acres Quality Retrievers Dog

We have bought two dogs from this breeder. First of all, she has over 20 dogs, some rescued. Looks like a puppy mill. Not healthy environment. Our first puppy a few weeks after we picked him up. Unfortunately, he chewed on a sago palm tree and passed away at 9 weeks. We went back and a few months later got a second dog from this breeder. Thinking the first dog died from such a random incident the next dog would be fine. Well, since we picked up our second dog it has been nothing but issues. He has tons of allergies, and skin conditions I have never heard of! We take him in for his regular check ups. This time, we found a giant scab. The vet said we were lucky we caught it in time because these usually grow into ulcers and may lead to cancer! I contacted the breeder and she said she looked at her records and said "your first dog was dead in a couple of days" and that we were probably over reacting. No. Another $400 later our dog is at home with a half shaven head and a cone on in pain and having mild panic attacks. I was so angry I told her what was happening and she said I was rude and wanted to call my inlaws! So crazy. Stay away.

I bought a puppy on 11.13.11 and after getting home we discovered it was very sick with giardia. Also, she has a recessed vulva that had caused many UTI’s in her first year of life. Now at the age of 2.5 she was diagnosed with Congenital Renal Dysplasia (Genetic Kidney Failure) and will not live passed the age of 5. Congenital means present at birth, so...

Golden Acres Quality Retrievers Dog Breeding

Recently a close friend bought an eight week old puppy from Golden Acres Retrievers that she named Sherman. She had told me that not only did this breeder have several litters on site but also runs a rescue on the same property. I tried to warn her that these were red flags for a puppy mill and that one should never breed on the same property where they also have a rescue as you just don't know what a stray dog may be carrying. Not to mention that having multiple litters at the same time is irresponsible. 5 days after she brought home her new puppy he started throwing up. After taking him to the vet he was diagnosed with Parvo! After a week of medication and horrible pain Sherman passed away. The breeder was notified as soon as she found out what was wrong with him. Not once did the breeder call with any concerns or even to ask how he was doing. The breeder agreed to refund the cost of the puppy but she never did, and stopped returning calls and emails as well. My friend also purchased another puppy from me 3 weeks prior to Sherman named Bella. Bella passed away also as a result of contracting Parvo from Sherman. I have been a breeder for 10 years and it makes me sick to see people that call themselves "Breeders" get away with such thoughtless, cruel acts! This person needs to be shut down permanently and never allowed to breed again. No puppy should have to go through all that pain and suffering.

SLANDER is the best way I can possibly describe what has been posted here, a slanderous, destructive act that needs to be removed immediately, let's take a look here at your accusations, yes SLANDER / LAWSUIT / Court Costs, best be sure you can back up your lies, because it's all coming to a court date, all because you couldn't talk her into letting you take an in spayed Dog to breed to death as the many others you have done the same with, a foolish backyard breeder making money without paying state or county taxes and avoiding the IRS, , , , , , , don't throw stones if you live in a glass house . Lisa Bedell like we don't know who you are !

I cannot believe this woman is still in business.
My dealings with her started about 6 years ago. I had placed an ad on Craigslist looking for a Livestock Guardian Dog. She contacted me and said she had one coming into her 'rescue' that day. I went after work to look at the dog. Walking with Michelle to that Quonset hut where the dogs are housed I asked "How many dogs do you have?" "About 75" she replied. 75!
The poor dog she wanted me to look at, oh my, I will never forgive my self for not taking her. Obviously a house pet, groomed and beautiful, she had been dumped at that hell hole by her family moving out of town. She sat shivering in her kennel, drooling from nerves. She was obviously not a full guardian breed, so I declined. I need a guard. So Michelle drags out another dog, looked like a lab mix. His ear was almost ripped in two from fighting. I declined.
I was appalled at the conditions. 3 and 4 dogs in each run, feces a foot deep in spots. New born puppies on filthy floors.
So I left.
And I asked around town. Do you know Michelle?
Everyone thought she was the greatest because age had the 'rescue'. So then I would ask "Have you BEEN out to her place?" No, no one had.
The groomer, Chris, who groomed the small, cute, dogs Michelle 'rescued' found out I was questioning the condition of Golden Acres and attacked me on Facebook. Michelle herself sent me an email much like the one posted above.
I called the Code Enforcement officer. She had a permit for EIGHT dogs. I asked him if he'd ever been there. No, he hasn't.
Then, come to find out m, Animal Control was GIVING her dogs, as she was a 'rescue'. I asked them if they'd ever been there? No, they hadn't.
I also called the USDA, as in her nasty email she said she was licensed by them. She is not.
So then I went to Kent's supply. She used to have 'adoption events' at Kent's and GIVE away the small cute groomed dogs out of the rescue.
The lady there said Michelle was having trouble with her neighbors about the dogs, and couldn't do the adoptions at that time.
So then fast forward a few years. Anyone remember the dead dogs being discovered dumped in the desert outside of Fallon?
Well, that's about the same time the County was finally cracking down on her, limiting the number of dogs she could have.
I have no positive proof, but many of the dogs found match descriptions of the dogs turned over to her by Fallon Animal Control.
I forwarded my suspicions to the Sheriff, with photos, etc. it went no where. And that's no surprise. The AC was giving her dogs, without confirming her qualifications, and the Code enforcement officer let her get away with housing all of those dogs in an unclean manner, and the Sheriff's office never enforced the laws. So they were all culpable, in my opinion, and it got swept under the rug and was never spoken about again.
I guess I better make more phone calls.

Do you know if the rest of Sherman's litter mates were doomed with the same fate?

I should have posted a few months ago, but I took Golden Acres to court (two trips, 6 hours each time) and won my case against them in Fallon, NV. small claims court! It didn't cover nearly all my costs, I was reimbursed the cost of Sherman and the vet bill, but it will allow me to purchase a new puppy in September (giving the parvo a year to get out of the ground at my house). The court system did work in this case! The "breeder" was as unpleasant as ever through the process, sadly... never was accountable... tried to blame the parvo on another dog (that I got AFTER her dog...) Michelle O'Donnell

You are not alone with this. Defend what? That they are a puppy mill and sell sick puppies? Everybody has the right to defend themselves however there is too much of this happening with Golden Acres. You are the 5th complaint including my own with BBB last year. Our precious puppy died the very next day. It took going to BBB to get a full refund. Now I find out another person (not you) has also gone through their puppy contracting parvo. This is not acceptable and something needs to be done about it. Unfortunately nobody wants to listen!

I am the friend, Michelle O'Donnell, and Linda was posting as a breeder, which I am not, and I appreciate it! As a breeder Linda had a right post. I was extremely busy and completely stressed out, buried in paperwork and Linda went through this with me cried with me through all of it. I took Golden Acres to court and won a judgement against them for the cost of Sherman and the vet bill, driving 3 hours one way, and spending more money for justice (but she's yet to pay), so the legal system has agreed that Golden Acres was in the wrong also. We all (I have children that went through all this too) went through a horrible time and watched two puppies suffer and die because of Golden Acres and the puppy mill it turned out to be. We are still not over the loss of these puppies. We simply don't want anyone else to suffer through what we did, which was NOTHING compared to what these puppies went through, sadly.

We bought a puppy from Michaele Atkinson of Golden Acres of Fallon, NV in early August. Two days after we got our Golden Retriever we took her to the vet for a check up to find out that she was ill with Coccidia and Giardia. Although these parasites are very common among puppies, there is no way she would have been showing symptoms (i.e. watery diarrhea...
