General Electric extended warranty

I have had extended 5 yr warranty on all my appliances through ge. I have experienced "very poor" customer service with their dispatch. They are rude and unprofessional. They are not there to provide you with good service. I have all my appliances with extended warranty but will not re-apply when the contract is up. The extended warranty is great to have but, "do not" go through, "service protection plus!" they don't even have the names of their company contractors name up to date. When I talked to one of their contractors, they said they have heard such horror stories. Why are we paying for this? I was told by the "scheduling floor supervisor" I could pay for the repair on my own! What the $/#!. They have changed their company name, which used to be "federal warranty service corporation". Is this because they were having bad reviews before?

General Electric washer not working properly

I purchased a washer and dryer of GE, The washer is a fully automatic front loader. Model GBVH5300K2WW, Serial Number of the machine HT200307T. The washer is not running the full cycle.
When you put for tough stains it pauses at least 3-4 times and I have to physically go to the machine and push the pause button to continue the cycle. It pauses at different time at different cycles. So I have to always keep looking whether the machine has paused. This is very BAD, for GE, if it is a fully automatic why the cycle pauses in the middle of the cycle?

General Electric new dryer won't work; unrepairable

After my complaint, I will include purchase details. In August, 2010, I ordered a new GE washer and dryer through Best Buy. Best Buy performed the installation (both appliances are electric.) I had to run around and buy the installation products because "I ordered them online, " according to Best Buy. I went to several stores, as Best Buy continually told me a store had the correct products; I'd get to that store and they wouldn't have the products, so they'd send me to another one. In California, that can amount to many hours of drive time. Eventually, I bought the right products, Best Buy installed the washer and dryer, and the dryer worked about one and one-half times. Then began the process of calling Best Buy (I also bought extended warranties on both products). Best Buy would send the Geek Squad out (appropriate name). They would be unable to fix it, and schedule another appointment. I was told it was everything from the timer to I can't remember what. On several occasions, I had other appointments. I run my own business (although I've been declared totally disabled by the State of California). However, I still work, pay taxes, and run my own business. I collect no money from the State at all. I had to pay $200 each time, to have reliable people at my home to be there when the repair people from Best Buy came, due to conflicting appointments. Then GE got called in. They came out, but said nobody needed to be there. They ordered new parts (for the second time). After the last visit -- a week ago Thursday -- I heard nothing. Then, Best Buy sent me an email stating that the last repair visit (which was unsuccessful and didn't get the dryer to work) showed them that the problem was GE's fault. Meanwhile, GE had been contacted. When they first got there, they said there was an electric problem (highly usual, as I have the washer and dryer on it's own circuit breaker). I called in a nearby electrician. He said it was odd, it looked like someone had switched circuits in the breaker, that it was strange and he'd not seen anything like it. I called the GE repairman, who said he'd be in the Malibu area for two hours (this was ten minute after he left). He came back to the house, absolutely astounded I had this problem fixed. Now, he said the problem was the timer. He ordered a new one, and set up another "fix it" date. He said I didn't need to be there, just leave the products outside, and he'd let himself into the washer/dryer room. I never heard another word from GE, until I received the email from Best Buy, with a bill that amounted to almost the full cost of both the washer and dryer, saying the dryer was unrepairable and that it was GE's fault, which GE completely denies. They say it's my fault, that the waasher and dryer were installed on an incorrect electric plug. However, Best Buy performed the installation. I've now had a dryer since August of 2010 and it is April, 2011. I've been able to use the dryer maybe twice. I've been ripped off. GE's solution? I should buy a new dryer, and they'll give me a discount on it. I don't want a GE dryer. I don't want a GE washing machine. I want the appliances removed, and my money -- including the money for the extended warranties, refunded. I will find a washer and dryer that comes without negative comments and gladly purchase them. Here are the facts. I'll also post the last email from Best Buy. Order Date: 08/10/10

Here is the last report from Best Buy's Geek Squad, who charged more for repairs than the dryer originally cost, and despite the fact that the repairs did not get the dryer to work. Also, it was the third time (at least) that Best Buy had been to the house to repair the dryer, not including numberous telephone calls:

I had a similar voltage washer/dryer on the same circuit breaker (its own) and it worked perfectly for 12 years. I spend some of the winter months in the desert with "snow birds" from my family, so it took waiting until my next trip to Malibu to discover the dryer wasn't working correctly. It has truly been a nightmare, and GE is totally uncooperative. I have blogged about this at www.MelodyBeattie.com. I have called GE and Best Buy and spend endless hours (when I should be working on the phone). Most of all, I've been deprived of the use of a washer and dryer for seven months -- applicances installed by Best Buy, who never said anything about electric problems then and said electric voltage of 240 worked perfectly for the last washer and dryer.

I am absolutely unsatisfied, have had to pay people over $400 (it will be $600 by next week) to be at the Malibu house when Best Buy comes, so I'll be out $600 plus the amount of the dryer. AND THEY WANT ME TO BUY ANOTHER ONE! I want my money returned in full for both the washer and dryer, and the extended warranties on both, and the appliances removed. I will then use that money to buy a new washer and dryer that works.

My complaint on my GE (or THE GE dryer) I purchased is so buried on this site it took me ten minutes to find it. When I searched complaints against GE Products, General Electric Products, or Best Buy -- nothing appeared. As I read my original purchase information more closely, more and more it appears that the sold me reconditioned appliances under the guise of them being brand new. I don't understand any of this. What I know is that I spent over $1, 000 at Best Buy in August of last year -- my dryer worked twice; it can't be repaired or won't be repaired, despite it being under factory warranty and me purchasing two extended warranties, one on the washer and one on the dryer. I keep wondering if this has anything to do with the Ads for General Electric Applicances on this site? I thought I was doing something productive by posting here. When I sent an email, i was told I'd "certainly get helpful comments soon that would advise what I should do." But how can anyone give helpful advice if they can't find or see my complaint? This is another way to stall, I'm guessing, until the original factory warranty runs out. Oh, and why did it take so long to complain? Because I live in two different houses, and didn't realize my dryer didn't work until I called in with my complaint.

I'm proceeding to the Attorney General's office. If I need to spend as much paying an attorney -- or more -- to prosecute this case, I will. I've been had and it's clear that help will not be forthcoming from posting a complaint here. Melody Beattie

General Electric over the range microwave

Purchased over the Range Microwave just over 2 years ago from Best Buy. It stopped working properly 18 months after it's purchase. The only button that now is able to be pushed is the add 30 sec button. Obviously, once the 1 year warranty ran out, I didn't call to complain b/c I knew we had no warranty (it was 6 months after it ran out). But since the add 30 sec button was the only one that worked, I have used that over the last 8 months to re-heat food. We are now going to sell our condo and walaa...here you go potential buyers, or relatively new GE appliances aren't really working. I called GE...best they could do is a rebate on a new one or a discount on a repair tech. Really? Shouldn't one expect that the major appliance they buy last a good 10 years? You will give me a rebate of $120 on a new one (but I will still have to pay the other $120, plus tax, plus delivery, plus installation, etc? Why not just send me a new one for free (they can't cost you much more than that to make)? Ridiculous!

General Electric GE Service Stinks

I have a 10 year old GE smooth top range with a convection oven. We paid about $1400 for the stove when it was new. Not a cheep stove, we wanted the best.

We had some errors with the oven and called service & they came out and looked at the stove. The service man said the control panel kit and the electronic range control kit needs to be replaced. The control panel kit is no longer available. He said I needed to call GE.

I called and they told me that if I got the unavailable kit aftermarket myself that they would have the service man come back and install it. They also said that they would email my wife with information as to where I could get that kit.

Basically I feel that GE customer support blew me off. We have not heard from anyone as far as any information to where the part may be acquired from. I have searched many sites on the internet and it is not available.

I also about a week after the incident got a call from a survey group about this. I expressed my dissatisfaction and anger about the way we were treated. They told me that this would be elevated to a red status, apparently something that I should hear from someone soon.

So nothing has happened as of yet. So I feel GE has ripped me off for $80 bucks for a service call and has not given me anything for the money. They have not even gotten back to me with a source that I can get a part for my stove.

Trust me when I say as it stands right now, I will never buy anything GE, not because it stove broke, but because they pretend to care about customer service but their actions do not show that philosophy. As far as I am concerned they might as well put on their advertisements and web sites that they don't give a rats back side about if their customers can get their stuff fixed or information from them, at least my expectations would not be as high as they started out to be.

GE doesn’t really care about the people who buy their products, they just want to give the impression they do.

Spectra gas oven range bought in 2001 is not working because the electronic panel needs to be replaced. The burners can be lit with a flame and work perfectly well. The over is controlled by the panel and cannot be used due to the panel's demise. GE does not make the panel anymore so the president's office at GE is suggesting that my only recourse is to buy a new range. I have explained that there is nothing wrong with the oven if I could replace the control panel, a $160 part. I paid $1100 for the range in 2001. Can I expect to have to replace my oven every 10 years? It is a perfectly good piece of equipment. What to do now?

Hello. My name is Sophia. I have e-mailed GE 5 days ago about a problem with my GE profile stove and still didn't get any help or response. I was cooking and left the oven door open for a few minutes and realize that all my knobs burnt and shriveled up. I would like someone to send me new ones. Preferably the metal ones and not the plastic ones. The part # is WB03T10263. I was told I would have to purchase them again. That shouldn't, t be the case. It is a defect on their part. The worst part is that my GE profile fridge's motor stopped a couple of months ago and had to pay $400 to repair it. Can anyone help me?

General Electric lemon

I have had to have my GE refrigerator repaired, under warranty, serveral times now for the same issue. During this latest attempt to get it repaired, I find that GE is claiming my warranty is out of date, only the parts are under warranty. Had the technician repaired the problem initially, the problem would have never reoccured, yet it did, hence, the technician did not repair it initially. Now GE is refusing to honor the warranty.

The refrigerator's icemaker keeps dropping metal washers into the glass when dispensing ice. Nearly choked my nephew. Bascially, the icemaker is useless now.

General Electric Extended Warranty

We purchased 9 appliances from Sargent Appliance, Rochester, Mi which were installed in December 2005 (approximately $13000). We also purchased extended warranties on 5 of those appliances through Sargent Appliance. We were not given a copy of the warranty to read prior to purchase but were told it covered everything with the exception of damage caused by mistreatment. The warranties are good for 4 years in addition to the 1 year manufacturer’s warranty with the expiration being Dec 2011.

We have had extremely poor response from both the warranty company and Sargent Appliance in getting warranty issues resolved. We seriously question the quality of KitchenAide because 4 out of 9 appliance have had serious problems within the warranty period.

We had a compressor go out on one refrigerator (Kitchenaide) and it took 5 visits over a period of six months with three seperate repairmen to diagnose and replace the compressor.

In November of 2009 I cleaned the oven (KitchenAide) (2nd time) and it started leaking fluids between the layers of glass on the door - the warranty company refused to repair the door saying that it was "cosmetic". In March of 2010 the glass in the door cracked - again the warranty company said it was not covered. We were never able to get them to repair it and Sargent offered the name of a repairman we could pay to repair the door.

This last weekend I opened the door to my dishwasher (KitchenAide again)and heard a loud popping as the door just dropped. My assumption is that the spring inside broke. I called Sargetn Appliance and once again was told that the warranty company would not repair the door because the spring breaking is not covered. No discussion and although Sargent says they do not agree with the warranty companies decision, they will do nothing to help.

The warranty company is listed above as the corporation we would like to lodge a complaint against, but we also would like to cite Sargent Appliance as being complicit. They sold the extended warranties as covering everything with the exception of damage we caused and they have done nothing to help us with the warranty company.

This is just an example of the greed of the manufacturers and their insurance companies. Insurance is a racket and badly needs to have itself in check. I never buy those warranties. By the time a given object stops being useful, it's time to find a new one. Unfortunately we live in a throw-away society.

General Electric poor service

I have a gas oven, XL44 in great condition. I manually locked the door and when it was unlocked the oven still thought it was locked and would not turn on. I paid $97 for a GE technician to come to the house. He diagnosed the oven as needing a new control panel (a $300 repair). He spent 5 minutes here and he did nothing, didn't look into anything, pressed a few buttons on the stove. My brother came over the next day, took the front panel off to find that the hook that the latch should hit when unlocked was not being hit by the latch. It was a 2 minute repair. I called GE to complain that first the tech did NOTHING and second he diagnosed the oven as needing $300 worth of work. I asked for a refund but they wouldn't agree. I didn't receive an apology or anything like it. In fact, they spent the entire phone call arguing with me. I am disgusted by this company and will never purchase a GE product again. It was the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

General Electric badly engineered french door refrig

Approx 4 years ago, we purchased a gas stove and french door refrig. Both in the profile line. The stove has givin us satisfactory service.

The refrig however, is a piece of junk. When I first got it, I cranked up the front legs to level it and one of them cracked. A a service man cam out and replaced it, it's cracked again.

One of the door crispers was defective, another service call, another new part.

Then the doors stated binding. another service call, he aligned them, More problems with the door closing. another service call, gasket replaced.

Then the temp started going goofy, another service call, new circuit board.

Doors still binding, another service call.

Now, warranty runs out, so we take an extended warranty (thank God)

Temp starts going goofy again, another call, another circuit board.

After he replaces circuit board, he cranks uo front legs, and guess what? Doors don't close properly.

Another call, he works on doors, (Using a lubricant) it works ok for a few days, now they're binding again, If you open up one, they both open up.

This is unacceptable. We need help with this thing, I just wait for the next shoe to drop.

Hi,

I have worked part time for an appliance store in Philadelphia for approximately 12 years now. My position is to check any incoming General Electric
product that may have been damaged during the shipping process, and to make the necessary repairs to make it ready for sale. At one time, GE produced a decent
product, however, as time went by, they chose to have all of their parts made in the good old Republic of China, not only saving them money, but putting Americans out of work. I have seen the decline in workmanship, the poor quality of materials used, the poor assembly, poorly wired motors and circuit boards, and the constant failing of their components.

At our store, if the unit has problems within the first year, it can be returned, with your money refunded, or the piece replaced. Did you start having these problems with in the first year ? And, if you opted to take an extended warranty, did you by any chance contact the seller with your complaints ? Sometimes the squeakiest wheel gets the most oil !

Good luck !

General Electric Over priced junk

We needed new kitchen appliances. We thought that we were buying the "best in the business" as told by our sales rep. These are expensive appliances albeit not the "Top of the line". When you pay $2000 for a stove, you expect it to last a few years. Two of the burner knobs have stripped out already. We have to pay for replacements. The stove has a nice warmer drawer on the bottom acting like a second oven. It would not latch shut. It won’t turn on if it’s not shut properly. They replaced the latch assembly twice. I had to fight to get the entire drawer replaced which fixed the problem.
The microwave control panel has been replaced twice. The exhaust fan motor assembly has been replaced.
The dish washer doesn't clean very well. We were told that we needed to rinse the dishes before we put them into the dish washer. We have to wash the dishes before we wash them in the dish washer. To top off the all of the problems, this is the most troubling. You buy HIGH END appliances because of the look of the stainless steel.
The LED display panels DON'T match. The blue LED lights are different colors and stand out in the evening.
The only positive experience I have to be thankful for is that we DIDN'T buy the refrigerator as well. I hear those are extremely troublesome.
My recommendation is to STAY AWAY from all of the GE appliances, particularly the GE Cafe line of unreliable, trouble sum, expensive junk.

General Electric 30& slide in gas range

Watch where you purchase GE Appliances, as not to many areas in Maine for Repair People. Tried to deal with
GE about the stove purchased from Home Depot. Stove only 18 months old and oven stopped working. Home
Depot did not have a repair person. Contact GE who could not give me a name of one either. Had to find
one on my own. GE wanted me contact them so they could provided parts. Sears was the only company
that I could find. Sears did not go along with providing part numbers, so that I could purchase them
from GE. Sears would not give a repair date, without them purchasing the items needed for repair.
GE would not help with only a small amount for this item to be repaired. It has cost me $346.00 to
repair a 18 month old stove. Products are not a GOOD as they use to be.

So be careful Mainiers, when you purchase Appliances. Make sure there is a Repair Person in your
area. If not, you be given a wild ride...

General Electric rebate program

Ge offers a rebate via a "visa" card. Every tried to redeem it? Almost impossible. After having it rejected by several business, I called to get a pin to use it as an atm card. 5 phone call later, I still am unable to withdraw my money. Plus, between the ge fee and the bank fee, it will cost me $4.50 every transaction - and ge won't let you withdrawn all at one time. So here I am, still waiting on hold, because the amt won't take the card for the amount - even though it is $11 less than the balance. This is a scam, you never really get your full refund. Shame on ge - next time i'll buy a different brand

I recently found that my GE rebate card balance went to 0 since they charged a fee of $3 every month of non-use. If the company feels that this is a way to reward customers, I must take my business elsewhere. The appliances themselves have had issues too.

General Electric Extended Warranty Coverage

I bought GE's extended warranty plan since Dec. 2007 to cover my rental property's kitchen appliances. Contract number is [protected]. The policy is offered by Service Protection Plan Plus and their contact number listed is [protected]. I called them to repair a broken handle on Gas range oven/stove on 7/22/10. Theiur answer is that a broken handle is not covered as it is does not affect the function of the unit. For GE the handle has nothing to do with the ability to open or close the oven door when it hot.

I tried to cancel the policy over the phone. Can't even do that. GE wants me to write to them for cancelling the contract but the guy could not give me that address. NEVER buy GE's extended service plan.

General Electric the whole thing is a scam

We used to have GE extended warranties for all our appliances. It used to be a good value. I even got a dead fridge replaced for shipping costs. Then, recently, I needed a repair, and found out I could no longer schedule it online, but had to call an 800 number and talk to someone not in this country. The next repair I had (OK, I confess, I will never buy another GE appliance, but I am keeping the ones I have till they die), the man in the other country (someplace where they speak Spanish) told me he could not find my contract, they would put a work order on it, and to call back in 48 hours. Well, I had paid for the warranty, I wanted the repair, my appliance was broken, but I couldn’t get any service. And, of course, they never called back. Eventually I got a supervisor, after days of calling. The supervisor said they had my warranty, but there were no providers in my area. I still naively thought I was with GE, and I knew there were many GE service people in my area -- I live in DC metro, so to tell me there are no providers in my area is beyond ridiculous. I got the “call back in 48 hours” routine from them, at which point I pressed a little harder, and found out that they were no longer GE, but another company entirely, who had decided to cut their costs and NOT use high quality technicians, but whatever cheap contract labor they could find. They promised to get back to me, but before they had called me back some 6 days later, I had gotten in touch with GE, got a GE technician out, who immediately fixed the appliance. Then I began the long, hard journey of trying to get a refund on all my extended warranties (I had 5). Although I had two months on 4 of them and 6 months on one of them, my eventual refund, after hours of phone calls and several letters and e-mails, was about $10.60. When I called, they told me that was because I had actually used the warranty services several times for service calls! GE tells me that when they sold their warranty services to Assurant, they assumed that Assurant would continue using their technicians. Well, like they say, to ###-ume makes an ### out of u and me. To make it even more flagrant, I continued to get warranty sales pitches from these people in the mail, claiming it was GE warranty protection, with GE service, that would give me peace of mind. There was no fine print telling me that this was NOT GE service. I have kept these notices and all my correspondence, but it only makes me angry. They took my money, and they cheated me. I am NEVER buying a GE appliance again, and I am NEVER buying warranty service because it can apparently be sold at the drop of a hat to people who are not in your area (let alone the USA), who have no clue about what is going on, who are paid to read from a script they really don’t understand. I live within 15 miles of the nation’s capital, millions of people around us, and these folks in some country hundreds of miles away tell me there are no service providers in my area and I need to wait 48 hours before they can find someone? And I get someone 5 minutes later on my own, paying real dollars? Give me a break. DO NOT TRUST GE WARRANTIES! The whole thing is a scam!

General Electric awful quality products

I recently bought a GE washing machine, Model #WPRE6150K2WT, that has an infusor, not a full agitator. The napkins I put in remained folded and full of food for the duration of the wash/rinse/spin cycles, and my husband's handkerchiefs were still folded and dirty. I am trading it for another GE that does have a full-sized agitator. The machines with infusors do not fill over 1/3 the way with water, so your clothes are just wet and rubbing against each other, but don't have the room to spread out and get clean in my opinion.

1. We found that our fancy side freezer refrigerator was recalled. This happened after 6 years old refrigerator started having problems: frost and melting ice from the freezer and eventually stopped freezing at all.

2. GE told us that they can give us credit towards the new one just for us to find out that the new one with a credit will be more expensive than to buy similar non GE one from Home depot.

3. We thought we were lucky that we had maintenance contract - $170 value. The technician told us that this refrigerator was recalled and must be changed for the new one anyway. We got a new similar refrigerator and get a frost in the freezer in about two months later.

4. To get a new refrigerator with a problem we had to take at least 3 days off from work and spend numerous hours on the phone with customer service.

They canceled our warranty we bought for the old one and we received only one year total on the new one. All our demands to extend the warranty to the new refrigerator for the time left on the old contract we payed for were denied.

5. Now we had to schedule another call from GE to fix the new refrigerator. Per Our previous experience with the old refrigerator we knew they never call, and if they do they never come at the time they can be expected.

6. Call support gives you 4 hours window during the week or 8 hours on the weekend and promise to give you a call before the technician comes.

We scheduled service call at least 2 times, but never had a chance to receive a service. Two times the technician did not call us 1 hour in advance as we were promised by the customer service. One time they schedule a call without letting us know.

All and all if you have a life beside your refrigerator think twice before you BUY it from GE, or if you do be prepared to a long battle.

General Electric Glass Microwave tray broke in two while heating food

GE Spacesaver microwave, MODEL JVM1870SF2 Glass Microwave tray broke in two while heating food! Unit is about 4 years new. Ordering one from GE is about $100! Still paid $50 from third-party. Amazing. I've used more variety of GE medical products than probably anyone in US, because of my diverse medical training: Diagnostic ultrasound; MRI scanners; CT scanners; general xray; specialized IR, and Cardiac c-arm machines. GE currently cannot repair problems on my cardiac equipment at a major hospital for one year now. As a consumer, every company out there makes junk. Part of the bigger problem is us. We've been programmed to expect less, after years of using Chinese-infused products. Glass microwave plates breaking when being heated? What did the engineers think it was going to be used for? $100 for replacement. Pyrex glass bowls (same thing) cost $5.87 at Walmart, and they use more glass. C'mon GE...I'm obviously a brilliant person to use all those medical devices and my opinion counts bigtime. $100 for something which should have been manufactured to withstand heat of a microwave oven. $50 was bad enough for a product that was probably made in a sweatshop, in some smog-filled Chinese city without safety or QC. The sad part is that both trays probably come from the same Chinese factory; the ones with the GE logo on the box costing twice as much.

General Electric adora dishwasher won't clean - poor service

Cleaned well for 2+ years and suddenly started leaving film, grease, particles, you name it. Tried everything in troublshooting to no avail. Even upgraded detergent etc. Nothing. Called on extended service plan. Service man said filter was clogged by a KERNAL. Yeah. Ok. Said it's customer's responsibility to clean that out (though it's not in the manual and if I should break something taking it all apart, it would be my responsibility, right?). He had to order a part just so the visit would be covered under my contract (nice of him). Of course, the problem persisted and I am now on the phone with them again. They reiterated the troubleshooting and asked me to "try again" and call back if it didn't work instead of scheduling a visit. I asked to speak to the supervisor who apparently instructed the service rep with all this and I've been waiting for 30 minutes now! HORRIBLE. Looking this appliance up online, it seems I've been completely had by G.E. and it's "lemon".

General Electric After using it only three times it broke

Three weeks ago I purchased a GE blender. It was the most expensive blender on the shelf($70). I thought I was getting a quality product. After using it only three times it broke. I returned it and exchanged for another GE blender. I had to get the step down this time. After using it 6 times the piece that turns the blade broke. I feel if you are going to put a product out it should work. I am a working mom with two kids and I don't have the time to be running to the store to exchange your products. Send me something that WORKS!

I bought a GE Blender from Wal Mart ; it's only been used to mix smoothies and make bread crumbs. The last 2 times, I can smell ' wires burning ' almost immediately.
I am returning it today for fear of shock or fire. This was not an inexpensive blender so, I don't get it !

I see GE has allot of complaints about their other products; check before purchasing.

Bought a GE Front Load washer two years ago. The warranty has expired and the main circuit board on the unit has failed. The service technician says it will cost $493.00 to replace it. I opted to pay him $84.00 for the service call and decided to replace the entire unit with something other than GE. I highly suggest avoiding GE and GE Profile appliances, they are not reliable.
