I have a real problem with their tanzanite. I bought a so called AAA tanzanite ring and when I got it I wasn't sure of the color and the more I look ed at it the madder I get. It is definitely not a AAA not even a real color tanzanite, it has very little color. I took a trip to the caribbean and their tanzanite was absolutely beautiful and blue. I am so upset... I also bought a blue diamond from them that is the oddest color blue diamond I have ever seen and I am really upset with that also... You have to be really careful what you buy from them, I have bought a lot and most of it is alright except for the most expensive things I got. I will stay with their cheap stuff..

'Very professional' - of JTJ.
If you wish to promote your professionalism and your education, I suggest your choice of vocabulary should be delivered with a little more caution.
I certainly wouldn't purchase anything from you, if this is how you address problems.

I agree. I purchased a so-called Pariba Tourmaline here in UK only to find it wasn't worth half the money, and it wasn't as described. So I sent it back I'm still fighting to get my £1194 back i's been 6 years now they try to ignore me unless I get a resolve I will take this up with a no win no fee solicitor. And DRAG them to court.

Are you a REAL JEWELER? DO YOU OWN YOUR OWN JEWELRY STORE? ARE YOU A GRADUATE GEMOLOGIST LIKE MYSELF? I think your answer to all of my questions will be NO.

JamesIsAJeweler, you may have all the education in the world but you can still lose a lot of business by using profanity when addressing others. Insulting or verbally attacking is never a good business practice, there are other ways to handle false comments made about you. That being said, JTJ is correct about Tanzanite being more rare than a Diamond! Do some research GTThieves because it doesn't take a gemological certificate to educate yourself on the rarity of Tanzanite. I've been collecting gems for years & discovered my favorite stone before many knew that Tanzanite existed. I have expensive taste in gems, maybe it has to do with being born in June & having Alexandrite as my birthstone. I have both natural & Russian lab Alex in my collection. I even bought Zandrite to round out my collection though none mean more than the grown only in nature gem. I know JTJ means well when advising to not buy from tv & I agree on that up to about 90%. My situation is unique & happens almost never. I used to buy gems in jewelry stores, from private collectors, and a few online stores I trusted completely. I discovred Tanzanite was becoming more known while channel surfing about 5-6 years ago. I decided to buy a few loose stones & 2 rings I liked. All the items I received were the deep gorgeous color many only dream of owning. When I took them in for my jeweler to look at he wanted to know where I got them. He was going to get a few for his personal collection because he couldn't get the size, color, and price even through an actual vendor. Unfortunately those days are long gone and no longer would I be able to buy D block color (aka AAA). That sort of material isn't even coming out of the mine any longer. That statement pains me to say because I knowmy children won't even be able to purchase Tanzanite as adults except through private collectors for an astronomical price. Thank goodness we bought each of them 2 nice stones. We also bought Tanzanite solitaire rings to give our daughters on their wedding day for their something blue. The time to get your Tanzanite is running out. I now see only light colors offered most places. I find the light color very beautiful but nothing can compare to the beauty of the darker shades. It is literally breathtaking. Those that say they can aquire tge darker color like JTJ should be sought out now before it can only be seen in museums or private collections. Make no mistake that the day will come before we know it. Oh and by the way JTJ a friendly little bit of unsolicited info: the correct phrase is I couldn't care less. To say you could care less means you still care enough that there's room to care even less than you already do. I know the correct phrase is said much less often but I promise you will find what I say is true if you do a bit of research.

In reference to the original complaint about Gemstv's tanzanite pieces, I agree/would like to add my comments/complaints. I have been a customer of that company since the begining, and I encountered a very similar problem. A few months ago, i purchased a "AAA" tanzanite ring from gemstv and was bitterly disappointed by what i received in the mail. Fortunately, i made the purchase before they went out of business, so i was able to return it for a full refund. One thing's for sure, i definitely learned my lesson about buying expensive pieces on tv or online. As a result of my experience, i was inspired to find a well educated (by GIA) and established jeweler whom i trust to sell me quality jewelry at a price i can afford.

Be careful buying colored gemstones. Always have them analyzed by a licensed gemologist to be sure their not synthetic.

To James the Jeweler and all,

Attitude alone says a lot. I just happen to come across this posting and note to self...don't use this James jeweler. You may know all that you know, but professionalism speaks a lot and you don't have it. You can tell people information without being a bully or an ###. There's a lot of other certified jewelers that are professional, reliable and helpful.

When making any major purchase...research research and buy from a reliable places.

It's extremely disappointing to read the above presentation.

As both a consumer and someone who has participated in jewelry courses via the GIA, I find it a shame that someone seeking information was subjected to the above discourse!

It IS a tricky thing to find a jeweler one feels comfortable with and trusts, for purchases, repairs, information, etc.
Just do your homework! As in most cases, there isn't a quick and easy fix to finding quality, reliable information. If you put the time in & do the research, you will feel confident when you approach an item for purchase.

From a personal standpoint, I've found that the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) is a great beginning resource for people seeking jewelry information & education. If you are interested, here is their link: http://www.gia.edu/
While they do offer formal education, there is also plenty of FREE information available on their website.

There is definitely an incredible amount of information (& misinformation) out there. Just keep your wits about you & do the research. Think things through & organize your findings so you can make an educated decision.
Decide what your objectives include, what is important to you per the piece you're researching.

Becoming hung up in commentary like the above won't help & will likely hinder someone seeking information even further.
When people are educated in a particular discipline, it only serves to create a professional atmosphere when they share their knowledge, rather than berating others.

To Cougs Mom

I'm sorry you got ripped off. When I started buying from T.V. I always started with a small, inexpensive purchase. I used it and saw how it wore. If it held up, I'd make another inexpensive purchase. If I ever had to send anything back, I always kept a close eye on how long it took to post to my credit card. I also spoke with the Customer reps. If they were pleasant and spent time with you, I got a good feeling. If they sounded bored and wanted you off the line, then this was not the place I wanted to spend my money. Perhaps GemsTV is not for you. If you live on the east coast, there are several gems only channels you can watch. Check around and I hope you have success with this in the future. T.V. shopping is a time saver and you can get much better variety than you can get at the mall.

James the Jeweler and "Get the Thieves" - why not stop your argument. James if you know tanzanite, and it appears that you do, why "wrestle" with someone who goes to the Caribbean to get tanzanite and have to "know your jeweler" (unless you live there you will not "know" your jeweler). I have purchased many tanzanites in my time. I'm not a trained gemologist, nor GIA certified, but I know what looks good to me and what I like. I have been purchasing all kinds of loose exotic gemstones from one source for about 10 years. I have always trusted my purchases. Recently I made several high $$$ purchases of tanzanites and took to Diamond District in NY to have stones weighed. Because the quality was so pristine, was asked (by a diamond dealer with no real experience in colored gemstones) if it was glass. I said yes, because there was a partition separating him and me and he had my stone. Then as I traveled home was struck with "buyer's remorse". As a "jeweler" had asked so I doubted my purchase. Long story short, took 4 tanzanite gems into European Gemological Laboratory ("EGL") in NY had them tested and appraised (not for insurance purposes). Found that they were tanzanites and were appraising for 4xs what I paid for them.

I have done extensive research on tanzanite, including checking out TanzaniteOne, Ltd (the deBeers of tanzanite). I have searched extensively on the internet and all info about tanzanite that you need can be gleaned there. Google: "tanzanite", click on anything you like from the list. You can also click on "News" at the top of the page once you type in "tanzanite". "Get the Thieves" if you will take a little time to read, you will find all the info you need on tanzanite and won't be so quick to attack another.

So "Get the Thieves" you always must be careful where and who you buy from no matter what the product. Don't make blanket statements that don't apply to everyone.

I wished I had found this site before I bought my Tanzenite from Gems TV...I thought I bought a pretty blue Tanzenite and diamond ring at a close out price...well I paid 356.95 for a washed out lavendar stone and you can hardly find the diamonds in the band. Also the tag on it said made in Tiwan and I thought their items were suppose to be made in the USA...that reallt ticked me off...I will keep the darn ring because I took the tag off but I think I was ripped off and will never buy from Gems TV again...

James, being how you aren't the one and only GIA certified gemologist in the world, and as you mentioned here, we must see and touch the stones before buying, if I ask you to fetch it for me, then I'm not the one who's picking, you are. Please, if you can, recommend some other GIA certified Gemologists I could buy my top quality Tanzanite from. I'm mainly interested in dealers in California. You bash jewelry stores, but if you can only recommend yourself as the buying for the best Tanzanite from, you may have some hidden agenda. I am a skeptic when it comes to believing people. Scam artists are lurking at every corner. I see people get burned all the time. I would also like to know if you think I could score a great Tanzanite at a Tucson Gem Trade Show in 2010 from one of the vendors. Do they even sell what you consider to be quality stones? Other than a great Tanzanite, I have yet to find a great quality about two carat Tsavorite, and I want to find an over a carat and a half gem-quality Rhodochrosite. Any suggestions of where I should go to find these stones here in California?

Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

Wow JTJ I agree with Dr. Gill. I have also ordered rings and pendants as well as chains. I've been happy with the majority of my purchases. I have also sent rings back that just didn't fit right with no problems. My education? Not necessary to prove myself. I like what I like, plain and simple. That should be the bottom line for anyone purchasing any item from A - Z. Peace

STAY AWAY FROM "DEAL" DIAMONDS, TANZANITE, & JEWELRY PEOPLE THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS DEALS ON "QUALITY JEWELRY & GEMSTONES." I SUGGEST YOU PAY FOR THE QUALITY YOU EXPECT TO OWN WHEN IT COMES TO FINE JEWELRY AND PRECIOUS COLORED GEMSTONES INCLUDING DIAMONDS.

STOP LOOKING FOR "DEALS" AND SPEND MORE TIME LOOKING FOR "QUALITY" THEN PAY THE FAIR MARKET PRICE FOR IT, IF YOU WANT TO OWN "QUALITY."

ANOTHER BIT OF ADVICE FOR THE OTHER MEMBERS ON THE COLOR TREATMENT OF TANZANITE BECAUSE ITS' COLOR IS HEAT TREATED:

Very briefly, when tanzanite is mined, it is almost always grayish or brownish. Once in awhile a "rough" will come out purple or blue, but for those that don't, heat treatment is there. This treatment brings out the beautiful blues and purples tanzanite is becoming so famous for. You need not worry about this. The treatment is permanent, therefore totally acceptable. Heated stones sell for the same price as untreated ones. I just thought you'd like to know that the practice exists so when a jeweler tells you about it, you won't be caught off guard. You can also use this as a good test for any unknown jeweler. Ask him if his tanzanite has been heat-treated. If he says no, you might want to consider another dealer. If he says yes, you not only have an honest jeweler, you probably will have won new respect from him and he will treat you accordingly.

HOW HARD IS TANZANITE YOU ASK?

Tanzanite has a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7.0 and is considered durable enough to be worn in practically any type of jewelry. As with any jewelry that is worn, it should be cared for. Tanzanite will scratch more easily than sapphire or diamond and should not be exposed to harsh chemicals and ultra-sonic cleaning.

OH I LOVE BEING A "GRADUATE GEMOLOGIST" THAT CAN EDUCATE AND INFORM OTHERS WHO NEED TO KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT THE JEWELRY & GEMSTONE INDUSTRY!

CAVEAT TO MY COMMENTS TOWARDS OTHER MEMBERS HERE CONCERNING TANZANITE: WHEN YOU BUY CHEAP TANZANITE EXPECT TO BE DISAPPOINTED! I DON'T BUY, PROMOTE NOR SELL "POOR QUALITY" DIAMONDS, COLORED GEMSTONES, OR JEWELRY.

EVERYONE STOP LISTENING TO MEN OR WOMEN WHO ARE NOT A "GRADUATE GEMOLOGIST" NOR A "CERTIFIED JEWELRY APPRAISER." YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR WHEN YOU GO AFTER A SO CALLED "DEAL" IN THE JEWELRY INDUSTRY. THESE JEWELRY STORES ARE FILLED WITH UN-EDUCATED FAKE JEWELERS WORKING BEHIND THE COUNTER TRYING TO GET YOUR MONEY, THEY CAN'T TELL YOU ANYTHING ABOUT THE JEWELRY YOU'RE TRYING TO BUY WITHOUT GOING TO GET ANOTHER SALES ASSOCIATE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS.

I'M GOING TO CONTINUE MY EFFORTS TO BRING THE HARD TRUTH TO THIS SITE, AND I'M GOING TO BE IN YOUR FACES WITH MY DIRECT ANSWERS TO YOUR COMPLAINTS, AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT I SAY HERE, DON'T POST YOUR COMPLAINTS BECAUSE I AM GOING TO COMMENT ON ANY COMPLAINT I PLEASE HERE. Buying coloured gemstones online can be tricky so the vendor should that be well researched before making a purchase. For a major purchase it is my opinion that it is best to buy at a brick and mortar store where you can see the colour and then take it for appraisal to a certified gemologist.

Remember when buying tanzanite that 99% has been treated and that due to hardness level it is not recommended in a ring.

Lastly, stay away from any gemologist who calls themselves educated, but can't write a civilized response without resorting to name calling.

OH "GETTHE THIEVES" EVEN A NATURAL RED DIAMOND IS MUCH RARER THAN A D-FLAWLESS WHITE DIAMOND! DID YOU KNOW THAT? OF COURSE NOT BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT A JEWELER, NOR ARE YOU A "GRADUATE GEMOLOGIST EITHER, LOL!

OTHER "NATURAL" FANCY COLORED DIAMONDS THAT ARE MUCH RARER THAN A D-FLAWLESS DIAMOND AND CLARITY MEANS NOTHING WHEN IT COMES TO "NATURAL" COLORED DIAMONDS. PINK, BLUE, PURPLE, GREEN, AND ORANGE DIAMONDS WILL PUT A D-FLAWLESS DIAMOND TO SHAME AT AUCTION! EVEN A CANARY YELLOW DIAMOND HAS OUTSOLD MANY D-FLAWLESS WHITE DIAMONDS FOOL.

GET YOUR DIAMOND & COLORED GEMSTONE EDUCATION "GETTHE THEIVES" BEFORE YOU EVER AGAIN ATTEMPT TO CHALLENGE ME ON THIS SITE.

Did you know that even a NATURAL ALEXANDRITE commands more than many natural white diamonds GETTHE THIEVES? of course you didn't? and ALEXANDRITE IS A NATURAL COLOR CHANGE GEMSTONE THAT TURNS BLUISH GREEN IN THE SUNLIGHT AND TURNS PURPLISH RED UNDER INCANDESCENT LIGHT. ALEXANDRITE IS ALSO MY BIRTHSTONE AS WELL.

OH AND FOR REFERENCE HERE'S A PIECE OF INFO THAT THE OTHER MEMBERS CAN GO CHECK FOR THEMSELVES AT THIS SITE BELOW IF THEY DON'T BELIEVE ME.

YOU CAN FIND THIS PARAGRAPH BELOW AT: http://www.gemstone.org/gem-by-gem/english/alex.html

The magic of changing colours

The most sensational feature about this stone, however, is its surprising ability to change its colour. Green or bluish-green in daylight, alexandrite turns a soft shade of red, purplish-red or raspberry red in incandescent light. This unique optical characteristic makes it one of the most valuable gemstones of all, especially in fine qualities.

Good luck to all and do not buy jewelry on the net! It has to be touched to fall in love!

MAYBE THIS IS THE VERY REASON MANY OF THE MEMBERS HAVE BEEN "SCAMMED" LISTENING TO TIRED ### SHADE TREE "FAKE" JEWELERS SUCH AS YOURSELF? WELL THERE'S A "NEW" SHERRIFF IN TOWN AND MY NAME'S JAMES THE JEWELER, SO TAKE NOTE I'M HERE NOW.

SEE THIS AT: http://www.tanzaniteauthority.com/diamond-tanzanite-ring.html

Is It A Fact That Tanzanite Is Becoming Rarer?

Absolutely, Tanzanite is already one thousand times rarer than Diamond and given that it is only 6.5 on the Mohs scale, many pieces are accidentally destroyed. The fact that it is formed by a unique geological phenomenon, that has less than a million to one chance of being repeated, means that according to geological tests, the world’s supply of Tanzanite will be totally exhausted within 10 to 15 years.

There is a terrible exaggeration here by James the jeweler! Frankly, I am smelling an oppurtuinst. No tanzanite is 1000 times rarer than a diamond. It all depends upon grades! Caribbean is a super place to buy them for cheap. Of course, you have to be comfortable with the jeweler.

Good luck to all and do not buy jewelry on the net! It has to be touched to fall in love!

Hello to you i'm James The Jeweler in Atlanta, Ga and i also have my own educational jewelry discussion group here under "JEWELRY & WATCHES" i read your complaint and i want to inform you to STOP BUYING T.V. JEWELRY, WHEN IT COMES TO "TANZANITE" THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A GOOD DEAL.

Tanzanite is 1000 times rarer than a diamond now why would anyone want to sell you a Triple A quality Tanzanite off of a tv screen knowing this? Tanzanite is a precious gemstone that has a very lively color not many gemstones close to its' color has.

If you'd like to purchase a quality Tanzanite that is Triple A quality feel free to contact me, and let me know your budget for the Tanzanite you'd like to own. I'd also like to know what shape and carat weight you're interested in as well.

You can feel free to contact me here or at my contacts below:
