GE Microwave / GE Microwave over the Range Cooking Center, Model #JKP86BOF

1 United States Review updated:

I AM ANGRY!. I had my GE microwave/range wall unit installed on February 10, 2006 and I am so unhappy. My reasons are:

The oven fan comes on when you set the bake time and remains on sometimes 2 hours after you have turned it off. I know that ovens need fans but why must it stay on continuously and why must it be loud. I cannot sit in my breakfast room or talk on the phone without hearing that annoying roar.

I have owned GE appliances before and never have I had an over with a fan that is loud. No one wants to cook and hear the fan. I just want it to bake my bread and be quiet!!

After being annoyed for 4 months, I decided to send an e-mail to the www.GEAppliances.com and asked why the fan noise and received a reply e-mail directing me to page 39 of their troubleshooting tips which states "this is normal"

Recently, I called their service department who sent a technician out to look at the oven and what he said was "this is normal" and nothing could be done about the fan noise and there are other customers complaining also.

If I had known "this was normal" I would not have chosen this model or this manufacturer.

Nowhere in GE's display information in stores or on line is there a reference that noisy cooling fans will run for up to 1 1/2 to 2 hours after the oven is turned off. The only place you find this information is in the reference manual once the unit is installed. The fan is as noisy as refrigerator fans but at least the refrigerator fans do cut off within minutes.

What can I do? I know what I would like to do is either (1) get it corrected by GE (2) have then take it back and get a refund or (3) return the oven and apply cost to another model that does not roar for hours.

I need help! Also, are there other people with similar problems?

Sincerely,
Elnora

    GE Microwave - Crappy product!
    United States

I purchased two (identical) GE Double Grill Microwave ovens. Bought one in late 2004, liked it and bought another in 2005.

Both seemed to have been programed to go out after 2 years regardless of usage. Wrote GE letter and talked with customer service about the poor quality of these ovens and to inquire about re-calls. They only offer parts coverage after I pay $80.00 to a service technician to come and look at them. I can buy a new cheaper model for just the service costs. I have no faith in GE products and seems as if all the other, once quality manufacturers, are producing crap that we have to keep on replacing.

Not really sure what to do at this point but "Let it be Known".

If someone has any recommendations as to how the consumers can hold these companies accountable, please let me know. I'm doing all I can on my own but there is power in numbers. We just need to stand up and stop taking the abuse from the greedy ###!

    Fed up in Chester-VA.

My GE Microwave is 3 months old and I'm having the same problem. If I use the microwave the fan stays on forever. If I turn on the vent, it stays on forever. If I turn on the light it stays on forever.

The only way to get it to shut off is unplug it.

I'm so glad I replaced my dishwasher with a none GE appliance after it was recalled for catching on fire.

Never will I buy another GE appliance.

Had this GE Profile Performance microwave for about a year. All of the sudden, it stops working - no heat !! (otherwise working normal: light, cooling fan stil work)

Reset the unit by unplugging and plugging the power; does not help.

Thought a fuse might have blown, but the manual shows nothing about the fuse, where it is located or what specs.

Called the GE service and was told that they wouldn't help over the phone!! Instead must schedule an appointment for a technican to come over for $79 just to look at it (more if problems are found and repair performed). Worse, they will dictate the appointment time.

This will be the last time I ever bought a GE appliance.

My 3-year-old GE Spacesaver over-the-stove microwave oven spontaneously exploded last week. It was not in use! There was a pot of water heating on the stove. The unit burned out completely, and released an enormous cloud of thick black smoke and greasy black ash all over my kitchen. It took hours to clean up. The adjoining cabinets have carbon smears inside, as did the things on top of my cabinets. Completely insane. I paid $800 for this appliance and I am furious. I have a GE guy coming in this week but, from what I read online, I don't have high hopes for getting satisfaction.
Has anyone had a similar experience--?

I have a ge cooking center and the inside of the microwave has come off. Can I replace the inside of the microwave or replace the entire microwave?
