Purchased a 4 month old male Chartreux kitten. Seen by vet 24 hrs after purchase, Vet noted swollen belly, said underweight. Treated for worms. Given Purevax rabies shot. Cat had to be euthanized ten days later with diagnosis of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). My cat had yellow fluid in abdomen, seizures, incontinence, inability to walk at time he was euthanized. FIP was not determined by full necropsy but by analysis of body fluids with test results consistant with wet FIP. Rosenfield informed me of one adult cat that died from FIP after receiving rabies vaccine and advised against using. I believe her total number of cats dying from FIP is 3. I based this number on her comments made in a yahoo group called FIP. I did not receive an offer for a new kitten or a full refund but was told that my vet killed the cat. She believes the Merial Purevax rabies vaccine is the reason my cat died. I have not been able to locate anyone that believes there is a link to the vaccine. If you look up FIP rates in the Chartreux breed, it is supposed to be very rare. You can draw your own conclusiones. Rosenfield's vet uses the Merial Purevax rabies vaccine except for her cats at her specific request. My overall experience with her cattery was not positive.

The vaccine that came before the Merial Purevax version caused lots of bad reactions and injection site cancers, If I am correct, I believe Purevax is the preferred vaccine used by most vets at this time. My kitten, according to my vet, was most likely showing signs of wet FIP at the time he was given his 4 month vaccines. He was sicker than anyone thought. Had I know there was a second cat to die from FIP at this cattery, I would never have done business with her. However, if FIP can be determined only by necropsy, then I believe the way catteries can be FIP free, is to never have a necropsy performed. This way there is no requirement or need to count all the suspected cases.

IS there a heavy metal atom at the core of this drug's molecular structure? i cant find a chemical diagram for it easily on the web. IF anyone has one of those i would love to see it

i believe that the vaccine has a heavy metal in it - something about it cripples the cat's iodine; these chemicals confuse DNA, what kind of research led to their approval? The second dose is the mistake
