Futureguard for Futureshop Credit Cards review: Unwarranted future guard charges! 13

I acquired a Futureshop credit card last June. When i received the credit card, it came with an OFFER for OPTIONAL Futureguard services: insurance for credit card balance. The letter came with a portion to be cut out and sent as a reply to confirm my enrollment into this Futureguard insurance policy.

I found it shocking that when i made my first payment, they charged me for the Futureguard services, one which i had never confirmed or agreed to. Moreso, they are still charging me Futureguard services this month.

I still have the letter with the cut-out portion in my drawer. I have not sent it and I never had any intention to send it. It begs the question of whether or not Futureshop and the insurance company handling this particular insurance program is running a most unethical business practice of charging for services you never agreed to. I hate to think that Futureshop is hoping that we wouldn't notice the extra charges.

If you have a Futureshop credit card, check if you're being charged Futureguard protection services and challenge it if you've never agreed to the service in the first place.

to Raz... NO SUCH THING AS THAT CLAUSE IN THE CREDIT CARD APPLICATION... i have a copy and YES... I CAN F*CKING READ!

and just to supplement this argument with logic... i also have the damn OFFER LETTER asking me to enrol for FutureGuard... so that means you're misinformed or you're some kind of Futureshop groupie... eitherway, get your facts straight and don't act as if you know everything... And yeah... bite me!

Does anyone here have a brain or is the world really this doomed? What do you think a credit card is .. Free money? Obviously there has to be something in it for the credit card provider : ie: admin fees, insurance, etc . But none of them automatically tac these on without your knowledge. How many of you have read your credit card guidelines pamphlets that all providers give to you but you ignore or misplace. They are not scamming you they are preying on your stupidity that you would actually sign your name on the dotted line before reading what you're signing. And guess what they're winning! In the end you only have yourself to blame. I'm not saying mistakes happen, a lot of these applications are done electronically so mistakes do occur. But 9 times out of 10 I bet if they dig up what you signed and agreed you'll find you agreed to something and didn't even know that you had. So if you can type and read posts on the Internet I'm sure you can read the fine lines in credit card agreements.

UNREAL - I have just been contacted by the Credit Dept. at CHASE saying I'm past due. My purchase was for an 18 month payment plan that I had to pay $100.00 for up front for Admin Fee (interest) for the "No Interest Plan" and now those scammers are trying to ding me insurance fees I didn't sign up for? Kiss my [censor]! It seems that CHASE is open on the weekends to Chase money for them, Future Shop is open on the weekend ready to screw us again but try to get through to Futureguard ? closed. I bet it's going to be a pleasure trying to get through to them. And when I do, I doubt I will be able to get through to them mentally to advise that I'm not paying their uncontracted monthly charges. Of course I'm pissed off. I've spent thousands of dollars at Future Shop and everytime they try pushing their insurance [censor] I say NO. I'm already getting a year warranty with most items anyway from the manufacturer and I don't want any additional insurance - period.

future shop is such a scam

bought 170$ in gift cards..went to use them..and were at zero dollar balance...had the recipt and everything but yet they insisted we used them already..even though the number on the back was scatched off by their OWN EMPLOYEE THAT DAY

future shop needs better training, better managment and needs to learn that costumers are their first priority

but then again..no wonder these poeple are working at future shop...their brains are so small they cant get anywhere else in life

This happened to both my husband and I when we applied for our credit cards through Future Shop.
You can get your money back! All you have to do is call them and tell them you did not accept the agreement and ask for them to send you proof that you did. They won't be able to because you didn't accept it to begin with and they will be forced to refund every penny you paid into their program plus the finance charges as well.

I enrolled into a Futureshop credit card and was asked if I wanted the futureguard services for an extra amount. I agreed to it because it has its benefits. For example, if you purchased your laptop with it, and it gets stolen, there is a policy that they will cover that. Or if you get unemployed, and you can't pay for it, and so on. I found out because when I was dealing with wells Fargo and seeing this extra charge for futureguard I was wondering why this was on my bill. The Wells Fargo didn't know anything. He explained it was a premium that they charge, but on the bill there was two charges. One for the premium and one for the futureguard and he couldn't explain, idiot. Then he gave me a number for futureguard and they explained to me what it was.

You can cancel it if you want, just call them.

it has never been 'mandatory'. Nor was it allowed to just "tag it on" ad tell them they can cancel enrollment later on. You need a specific "yes" to futureguard regardless of with fargo or HSBC. Sounds to me like a few dishonest customer service reps in certain stores trying to boost their numbers for prizes. After reading many complaints on this website about futureshop I must say I'm quite proud of the futureshop store I work at. We are honest in all our dealings and follow the regulations set forth by best buy to a "T". Maybe thats why we get so many customer service compliments and many of us have repeat customers for life.

I never agreed to Futureguard and I am not eligible since I am over 70. However, I have been charged every month, and despite 3 phone calls it is still being deducted!

Futureshop is gonna get burned! They are going to be in trouble with the government for illegal dismissal they done to some workers i know here in Windsor, Ontario.

This honest guy working there is really going to burn them apart as he has documents ready for them to be testified!

I work for futureshop in customer service and its true that before we used to not tell people what there signng for or tell them that they have to get the futureguard with the card but if cancelled within 30 days then theres no charge. But now since there no longer with wells fargo and now with hsbc i dont even ask ne customer whether they want it or not. I just dont put it on. Futureshop is a scam all together. Thats why i no longer work there nemore.

When I applied for my FutureShop card in-store about a year ago, the sales rep said that initial enrollment in the FutureGuard program is mandatory, but that I could cancel anytime. I also got the enrollment form, which I never filled in or mailed, so I was a bit confused about whether I was signed up for it or not.

I called FutureGuard two months later (after I noticed the $25 charge on my statement) and canceled. They even credited my account $50 for the two months I was enrolled but didn't use the service. Don't know if that's at the rep's discretion or if there's a money-back guarantee trial period, or what.

Just pick up the phone and cancel the service, and ask for a credit if you feel you were mislead about the program. Always get the name of the person you talk to, and take notes on what the rep says they'll do.

Dummies -_- learn to read...

When you signed up for your Futureshop Credit Card it clearly says that if you don't cancel your (automatic) subscription to FutureGuard after 14 days, they will automatically start charging you.

If you made the application in store, most customer service representatives just give you futureguard without asking you because their bosses pressure them. In the end the management gets a bonus and you get fu***d.

Same here. Except I remember taking it when the sales rep offered it to me in-store. Are your SURE you didn't accept to have it on any of your purchases in-store? That would explain why you're seeing charges.
