Florida Power & Light [FPL] not reading meters

Florida power and light (Fpl) is the biggest scam I have ever seen. They over charge and don't read meters! If I could the extra money that they charged me, i'd be rich! They have "special binoculars" to read meters that are hard to see. They are a scam! I have never saw them in my neighborhood. What a bunch of bull! F fpl!

This is true "Not reading meters" FPL. The meter reader, which I've several videos refusing to enter property for no apparent reason. Then, FPL sends a high estimated bill, you might or not contact FPL, but hoping you don't and many don't around this area. If you do contact FPL, you have to force your way into having your bill recalculated by reading the meter to them, in my case the bill would be corrected by $20-$30 USD in my favor.
Lately I've been overcharged as much as 200klw's and had to call in to re-read my meter.
FPL change? Maybe now with a democrat President and Congress.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] fpl are too monolopized

FPL sent me a letter today, saying that because some of my payments have not been paid on time they have to up my deposit by 600.00 due in 9 days. If we do not want to pay, we can opt for an auto withdrawal from our bank and we will not have to pay the additional deposit. This is a bunch of BS. First of all, Florida Power and Light are nothing more then a monolopy, and they can do and treat people however they wish. I don't have a choice not to pay them or they will shut my electric off, so why bully us into auto pay so they can get their money.

I think this is horrible business practices which does not seem legal.

FPL is the worst power company and if I had any kind of choice, I would be happy never to have to deal with them again

You do have choices, 1) Stop using electricity, then you won't get a bill for usage. Second, you can pay your bill on time. You want their electricity, and they want their money. Sounds fair to me. Their rates are already some of the lowest in the state, and are regulated as to how much they can charge anyway.

FPL MOST CERTAINLY DOES SUCK AND THEY ARE A MONOPLY HERE IN SOUTH FLORIA AND YES THEY DON'T GIVE A RATS [censor] ABOUT ANYONE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. A FEW MONTHS BACK THEY SHUT OFF OUR ELECTRICITY BY MISTAKE THEN TELL US OH I GUESS OUR REPAIR GUYS ARE BEING A LITTLE LAZY TODAY. AFTER WAITING FOR MORE THAN 4 HOURS THEY FINALLY TURNED IT BACK ON.

THEN JUST LAST WEEK I GOT MY BILL IN THE MAIL I ALMOST HAD HEART FAILURE. IT WAS FOR $523.00. WHEN I ASKED THEM ABOUT IT THEY SAID OH WELL THE METER READER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET INTO THE METER ROOM BECAUSE IT WAS LOCKED SO HE ESTIMATED YOUR BILL AND GEE HE ESTIMATED LOW SO THIS IS WHAT YOU REALLY OWE.

I CHECKED WITH OTHER TENANTS AND THEIR BILL WAS NOT ESTIMATED AND OTHERS WERE. HOW CAN SOME BE ESTIMATED AND SOME NOT BE. ALL THE METERS ARE IN THE SAME ROOM. THE METER READER KNOWS TO GET THE KEY FOR THE METER ROOM AT THE GUARD GATE. SO I BELIEVE THE METER READER WAS A LAZY PIECE OF CRAP WHO DID NOT WANT TO TAKE THE TIME TO SCAN ALL THE METERS. BECAUSE OF THE I NOW HAD TO PAY 523.00 OR RISK ELECTRICITY BEING SHUT OFF.

FPL DOESN'T CARE THEY WANT THE MONEY. I HAVE ALWAYS PAID ON TIME BUT IT DOES NOT MATTER WITH THEM. I SAY SCREW THEM THE MONEY HUNGRY [censor].

Florida needs a cooperative for power, or at least a competitor. I've meet an attorney that works for FPL (hedging to determine power rates) - greed up and down and a couple other words. There's got to be an entrepreneur with some experience out there to spearhead a coop or alternative source and grid for homes.

FPL lost the payment. I had them on a 3 way call with the Navy Federal Credit Union to verify that they had received the check and cashed it. They tell me that it would be credit to my account. They all so tell me not to make a payment as I have a positive balance and any additional payments would confuse the issue. Then they give me a late charge. FPL will not acknowledge the call even happened! Tapes erased.

But, be one minute late and they sure can remember to tack on a late charge to your account. They can sure remember to disconnect your Power no matter how cold it gets and will not turn it on for over 24 hours not matter how cold it gets! And we all know they have emergency crews standing by! Not for you or me! We need to be taught a lesson...never be late!

I always carried a positive balance. Never again. Did never being late and always carring a postive balance work in my favor. Nope! Nada! No way. I am just a number just like you. Just a incoming check!

I also found the fact that you gave to FPL every month for going on 3 years does not get you any breaks either! Got to fund that Holiday Bonus some how!

They also tell me not to send in a copy of the check as it would be thrown away. They also tell me it is my fault because I did not speak to the correct rep. or the correct supervisor. It is also my fault because I did not fill out the correct form for lost payment and do it in the required time allowed! Then they put on these so called fake supervisors to pacify me!

FPL will not talk to the Navy Federal Credit Union and the Navy Federal Credit Union will no talk to FPL! But it is all my fault! So basically pay up or get disconnected! As if I have a choice. FPL is a monopoly and if you cannot afford to produce your own electricity,

I guess you just have to bend over and Say...all Phrase the Glory, the Power and the Almighty FPL. Thank You Sir and or Ma'am may I have another!

Now I only pay the balance due. Never carry a positive Balance! Call after 5 days and every day until the checks post. Never give to FPL share who cares again as they all
con fusees them!

FPL is so lucky I cannot switch service. I have problems with FPL payments a average of every 6 to 7 months. But they don't care. Not like I can switch services! They got you by the Nads and they know it!

Florida Power & Light [FPL] faulty meter

Here is my complaint to the public service commision on fpl holding my money hostage!

Hello,

It has come to my attention that Fpl has only refunded 50% of my faulty meter overages. Not only have i found out that FPL knows that according to there electric meter that tells them the usage for the entire street-grid etc... can prove that my meter was faulty for the full term along with others but the tests came back showing my meter was faulty. I have phone records and multiple FPL energy surveys coming to my home telling me nothing was wrong. Even the last surveyor told me nothing was wrong and told me to get the meter tested if i dont believe him. He actually said my bills will probably go up because the older meters tend to be slower than the new meters. They should have told me that 5 years ago when i first had them at my home. I have spent thousands trying to lower my bill since i moved in here based on my usage and i have all receipts and records. I still have not received the required meter accuracy test prior to start of service in 2003 because Ralph Nesbett said it was never completed. My solid billing history along with this report will conclude that i am due a 100% refund and as courtesy some interest. I sent fpl a certified letter over 60 days ago requesting my full refund with no response. I did however receive from Mr.Nesbett a claim that meter tampering was evident with my meter. I want the report showing my meter was accurate at the start of service and i will be happy with the rest of my funds credited to my account. I have recently completed a new home office at my residence with multiple pc's, a/c and refrigerator at the same time the new meter was placed in 2008 and my electric bills are still lower now with the new meter than with the old inaccurate one. I have plans on a new website to try and help find more victims on this type of theft. I need honest help from PSC and i cannot willingly let my hard earned money disappear. This will be my final attempt with PSC and will have no choice but to seek legal assistance if we cannot prevail. I am not looking for a settlement. I want my money back with interest.

Thanks Again,
Daniel Gill

It has come to my attention also that FPL is ripping off their customers. I have contacted the PSC and am having audits done on the account since day one. They're not happy about it but they have to comply. Honest mistakes are one thing while incompetentcy that makes them money is flat out fraud. From meter readings, faulty meters, overbilling, late fees, payments posting way after the date it was paid (on line and paper billing)
to acquire late fees is just ridiculous. Check your bills, the kw hours and the meter readout (on a daily basis if you have to) Keep all your bills and get an audit. Believe me they won't match up. They carry over balances to profit from late fees. It's very time consuming and they know it. If you find ONE mistake there are sure to be more.
Double billing, guesstimates rather than accuracy. It's theft plain and simple. I know they're busy but if it was their money they were losing perhaps they would be more careful or honest.
The Public Service Commission will get involved.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] deposit abuse

I am preparing a flyer to give out to people and forward to all the major media outlets.
FPL is charging an extra deposit from customers to which FPL's credit exposure is limited to maybe 3 months of payments.

They have NO competition.

We have NO choice.

Imagine a business where you have no competitors and your customers will ALWAYS come back to you, FOR LIFE!

Tobacco companies don't even enjoy that kind of customer loyalty.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE...

FPL is shutting off the light at the end of the tunnel until further notice.

In recent months our nation as a whole has been experiencing a new economic hardship. Many of us have lost our jobs, seen our incomes reduced, our retirements go down in flames, and homes in or at the brink of foreclosure.

Businesses are suffering as well. We see more and more companies laying off workers, closing stores, and entering into bankruptcy.

There has been some good though. We are seeing many Americans both rich and poor lend a helping hand. Many mortgage lenders have been patient in dealing with so many defaulted mortgages. Some are offering new or modified loans, short sales, discounts on back interest, or even on principal owed. We may not feel like they are doing enough, but when banks are “forgiving” monies they are entitled to, you know times are tough.

The government is extending unemployment benefits and other programs while trying to jumpstart the economy any way they can. We may not agree with how they are trying to help, but at least they are doing something.

Unfortunately there are those who just can’t see beyond their own needs and our newly increased credit risk. One of those is FPL (Florida Power and Light). FPL is a business like any other and should do what it can to weather this economic storm. That being said, unlike any other business, FPL has NO competition for its customers. Customers can choose to pay FPL for their electricity or simply go without.

While most businesses have seen their receivables go into 90+ days and simply hope their customers will make good on their commitments, FPL has decided to protect itself by demanding a larger “security deposit” from its existing customers who are barely able to keep up with their monthly bill. This “security deposit” is usually close to two month’s bills. If customers are willing to make their payments via automatic debit, then the deposit is waived. Many right now cannot commit to that since they don’t have a steady source of income. Surely FPL could understand that since they have in past years moved so many of their W2 employees to 1099 sub-contractor status.

FPL must be the envy of countless business owners who have seen their sales dry up while their receivables get old and moldy. Surely they could only dream of a business environment where they could demand a “security deposit” on slow paying customers.

FPL has not seen their sales volume devastated like car companies and retailers have. Their clients have not run off with thousands of dollars worth of cars, consumer goods, etc. Their exposure is limited to about three months worth of payments from lifetime customers. Not even tobacco companies have the customer loyalty that utilities have.

Something has to be done. We cannot as a whole endure this economic storm while FPL and other utilities like them choose to use this time to burden its “loyal” hostages (customers) with the hardship of having to come up with money to “secure” FPL’s bottom line.

Please forward this letter to anyone and everyone. It is necessary to raise awareness within the business community, the public, and our political leaders to put a stop to this.

Stephen Scott

It's 2015. I can't believe we have the same freakin issue with FPL. They are an illegal monopoly with illegal practices, and somehow they have been doing this for years. Just got off the phne w them. I have been a good standing customer for years. My business has too, plus we have superb credit. Called them because opened a second location. You'd think we'd get some sort of customer loyalty points, but instead we were asked for an additional deposit of $350. Oh and we are a charitable nonprofit. WTF. FU FPL. I rather not have electricity than give u money that u say I am not getting back unless I close the account. While everyone online is complaining that FPL continues to ask for more and more depsoits on standing accounts. This is so wrong on so many level. Please! Someone out there do something!

Im Desperate!

Every month FPL Ask me to pay Over 5600.00 my Wife Owns. We were Separated and the light was completely under her name.
When I rented this house, FPL asked me for a deposit, I paid the amount, a few days later a guy came to my house and asked me to pay $5, 600.00 I almost collapse. When I called FPL the told me that my Wife's Debt was added to my account and that there is nothing I can do. Every month they charged me $ 100 interest on that debt, plus the $400.00 Bill for my charges, plus $244.00 towards that Debt. I try to put the bill under a relative's Name and they refuse completely.
I lost my Job, I got three kids, the smaller one is only 3yrs old. I'm behind on my car payment.
I just want to pay my BILLLLLLLLLLLL Nothing else! They have a deposit, I paid $430.00 Yesterday and they will disconnect my light tomorrow, Every month is the same problem, , , I call them, make a arrangement for my wife's debt, I can't pay it!I wish I could.
What should I do?

I have roughly a 20 year history as a customer of FPL. My account has always been in good standing and with each and every new residence I took up (perhaps 4 moves in 20 years) I can proudly say that each and every final bill was paid in full and on time. I have never extended any credit to FPL and consider myself to be a 5 star repeat customer.

Thanks to Mr Madhoff my situation changed significantly in 2009 so I let go of my residence and moved in with a friend. My name was not on the FPL bill but I felt comfortable that now that I am ready to take up single residence again I will have no worries regarding excessive deposits with FPL as my extensive outstanding credit history with them speaks for itself. BOY WAS I FOOLED!

I have been in my new residence for 8 days and finally got around to opening an e-mail from FPL, welcoming me to open an online account for swifter bill pay. The e-mail states that if I would like to continue recieving service I must pay a number just short of $400.00 on top of whatever actual monthly usage fee's are incurred. When I click around the site to try and find an explaination for this obsured number I am only able to come up with red lettering stating that there is no further information, not because of any java script error but because they simply didnt take the time to fulfill their obligation to provide a full view of the monthly statement as if I'm supposed to just shell out this $400.00 with no questions asked.

I don't know if this business is in violation of the Sherman Act, but clearly, there is no other electric company in Florida so as others have stated, I will be forced to pay this ridiculously unfair and unwarrented dollar amount or risk heat stroke as my indoor thermometer registers 120 degrees.

I reinterate, I have a 20 year POSITIVE history with FPL and have NOT earned this smack in the face. I can understand an $80 deposit which is the equivalent of a last month security deposit (nevermind that my usual bill is actually $50 to $60) but to FORCE payment or deny service to someone who has earned their trust year after year after year for 20+ years to pay $400 based on nothing more than a grossly distorted projection of potential risk on such a low risk cusumer is simply abusive.

Although I am able to barely keep up my bill monthly even though I paid on time for two years, FPL has now added $150 two months ago for late payment and now another $61 this month. If I already am struggling, then what makes them think I can come up with even more money every month?

Also, how long can they continue adding even more deposit amounts? Indefinitely? It is ridiculous. These people are thieves!

I have started a class action lawsuit against Florida Power and Light. If you are interested in joining go to SueEasy.com type in Florida Power and Light and add your comments. The more complaints the better. Maybe we people of Florida can finally get some relief from these bullies. I for one am sick and tired of being a slave to their unfair deposit and billing practices and the monopoly that they hold over Floridians.

It's abusive and insane. The budget billing is a piece of s... It actually increased my monthly payments and I can't discontinue it because they will add the deferred charges to the next bill. So I will need to pay like $1000 to cancel that program that is supposedly to help you lower your monthly bills and pay more lest the same each month. Honestly, there is no choice, no competitors that you can switch to, they are a monopoly and they are taking advantage of us.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] abusive monopoly

FPL is the only business I know of that is able to get an additional deposit from delinquent customers.

Their tactics are effective; pay up or do without.

Surely they must be the envy of many businesses that are suffering not only dismal sales but also aging receivables.

I can't think of any other business that is able to keep their exposure so low, customers hostage, and very little if any decrease in sales volume during this recession.

Must be nice to be FPL.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] damage to property

aprox. 5 months ago fpl had a power problem and a main line caught fire. fpl had people come out to trim the trees that had been rubbing these lines for a very long time. in the mean time somehow they caused damage to my shed. I have called them once a month for the past five months to see whats is going to be done about the damage. still i have yet to receive a phone call or anything productive. the only thing that has bee done is, i recieved a letter stating that they do not clean up after a hurricane. HA HA a hurricane, we didn't have a hurrican in florida this year. I don't think we even had a good wind this year. So how long should it take to have my shed fixed? Hmmm I think five months is way tooo long. I really think someone should have talked to me and we could have reached an agreement over the phone. Now i just don't know what i am goin to do because now the inside of the shed is beginning to rot. I guess i will just keep taking more and more pictures till they fix all the damage, or hire someone to fix all the damage they have done and neglected to fix in a timely manner.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] deposits/terrorists in deltona

I've had the displeasure of having FPL as my utlity company for over 1 year now, I was charged the initial deposit to start the account and a couple of months later I get a notice of disconnection for another $150 deposit, I called and asked why and was informed it as due to my " tardiness" in paying my electric bill, when I asked astounded since I pay the same exact time every month, I was informed that I've been paying in the middle of the month and the bill is due in the beginning of the month (as my rent is) I informed the agent that I couldnt pay them in the beginning of the month due to that and the answer was "Its not my problem". Fine, after weeks and weeks of arguments back and forth over the issue I asked if I paid the $150 ransom they could just leave me the hell alone and was informed that no other deposit would be charged on my account, but guess what? FPL must need some new shoes because out of nowere I get ANOTHER disconnect notice, now 1 YEAR AFTER THE FIRST DEPOSIT with me making the payments EVERY MONTH at the SAME TIME for an additional $79! I called and was informed by the manager who must be related if not Jesus Christ himself as he put it politely "there is NOBODY else you can speak to, it doesnt go any higher then me" that if I didnt pay it would be shut off, I asked why he said the same thing, I asked WHY! WHY I've been paying for over 12 months at the same time and all of a sudden there is the need for another deposit, here is the info I got it folks straight from the [censored]es mouth: FPL can charge deposits at ANY TIME for ANY AMOUNT they see fit, if your bill is due on the 5th and you pay on the 8th YOUR LATE and they can charge you another deposit..And if you dont guess what? theyll cut you power. They're a bunch of bullies with representatives who lack the intelligence to explain even the simplest bill to inept managers who have not a CLUE to what theyre doing, answering the phone with the politeness and finesse of Tony Soprano, the company is SO BAD folks that there is an AUTOMATED COMPLAINT LINE! And the worst thing is NOBODY DOES ANYTHING ABOUT IT! ITs a [censored] sandwich that FPL forces down our throats every month and because they're not regulated they can keep terrorizing their customers forever and there is NOTHING being done about it.. People talk about terrorism abroad, what about the terrorists right here? Holding us hostages and demanding whatever they want as ransom? Why should they be able to hold us in the palm of their hands and squeeze more and more deposits whenever they're running out of money? Im considering moving my entire family from Deltona so I dont have to deal with them its THAT AWFUL I live on a budget with 3 kids and cant afford to take $200 out of my rectum whenever FPL decides they need it, I dont know what we need to do or who we need to talk to but something NEEDS to be done about this company's business tactics.

Now over one week after a lightning strike that caused a break in the water main and damaged the underground electric cable to my home, FP&L has not repaired or replaced the electric cable. In fact, even after repeated calls, sending out people to spray paint and flag my utilites we have yet to see them. It is unfortunate to see the lack of response. The state needs to get more involved in regulating FP&L and declining their rate increases. Where is their response to customers?

Florida Power & Light [FPL] residents are being ripped off!

Florida Power & Light is asking state utility regulators for a 7 percent increase in rates starting in January and I heard on the radio yesterday that it was approved.
The Florida Public Service Commission already approved an increase of 16 percent last year and FPL said the estimated increase could rise depending on fluctuations in fuel prices and the potential impact of this season's hurricanes.
FPL had profits of $217 million, or 54 cents per share, compared with $211 million, or 53 cents per share, a year ago.
I live in a mobile home with land and have a $1260 mortgage PITI. I am a single mom and college graduate making $600 a week gross and I will probably foreclose on my home within the next year and to have a corporation profit from what is a NEED, especially in Florida, is disgraceful.

It is outrageous that this happens! The increases are staggering, especially during these hard times. People are losing their homes, lay-offs are at a all-time high and increasing, work is VERY difficult to come by and FPL continues to increase their rates!

The Public Service Commission has approved rate hikes twice within one year! What kind of service or over site are they providing...?

As "scott777" indicated... They have NO competition... We have NO choice.

This is a text book definition and example of a monopoly! Shame on FPL for taking advantage of the needy and those going through some hard times!

I don't think FPL needs to have a 7 percent increase in rates. They don't do any thing to help anyone. They are rude and don't respond when you call them for a problem. They treat the customers like they are crap. The customer is the one keeping them in business. I think the State Of Florida needs to come down hard on FPL and make them realize that the customer comes first.

I have had FPL for two years now and am looking for a new place to live that does not offer FPL service. My husband and I both work and have two kids to support. But like most families we fell on hard times this month because of our youngest son being sick. We have asked friends and family for their help and because of their financial situations they can't help. So with my electric bill being three hundred and forty three dollars FPL said we can't file for an extention. Not only that but they also are charging us another deposit. I called FPL begging for a little more time cause we have to find a way to come up with the money I was told they would be turning my electric off 11/12/08. I tried to explain to FPL that I have a sick child and just needed a few more days to find the money they told me I was out of luck. Now tell me what company knowing they are going to get their money turns off power to a sick childs home. If any one can tell me how I can get FPL to let me have more time or if anone knows of any organization that can help please email me at bdolfans03@yahoo.com. I would really appreciate if any one has any info that would help.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] deposit of $500 required

I strongly agree with all of the complaints on this site. I have been an FPL customer for 20 years. I have been late a few times, but never have I been shut off. Yesterday I received a bill from FPL for a deposit for almost $500 because of two late payments in the past I believe six months. I called and asked to spread the payments over a longer amount of time and they said no. I asked about an extension to pay and they said possibly but it would only be for a few days. My husband hasn't worked since May of 2007 due to health reasons and also just not being able to find any kind of work. I have a full time job and I don't even make enough money to pay for our mortage, utilities, gas for the car, groceries, medications, etc. We have not been able to pay our mortgage since April of 2008. We never have any money left over and often have very little in the refrigerator and cupboards. I find myself gathering any change we have around the house to buy food. We have begun to sell things on ebay and are trying to sell other larger items but no one has any money to buy anything. I asked the FPL rep how could they expect someone who can't pay their electric bill to come up with ANOTHER $500 in four weeks. She said I don't know. I asked about speaking to a supervisor and she said there was nothing anyone else could do for me. I am current on my bill now but I have a payment due of $256 on November 18. Then they are asking for this deposit of almost $500 due on December 4. I just don't know where to turn. I called one of their agencies for "help" but they say they have no more money to give anyone help, not to mention I am not at "poverty" level so they couldn't help me anyway. I have been borrowing money from family members, but they too are all tapped out. FPL has a monopoly on the electricity in our area, and until there is some competition, they can just do whatever they want. There must be something we can do - a classs action lawsuit perhaps. Please Please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Florida Power & Light [FPL] power reconnect

Service was disconnected for nonpayment. I paid $413.00 to reconnect service at 5:39 p.m. I was told that and order had been placed to restore power. I called 5 times between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Each and every time I was informed an order had been placed for restoration. I asked every person I spoke to if people worked after 5:00. They all told me crews were working and an order had been placed.

I get that it was my fault for not having the money to pay. I get that it is my fault. But why did no one tell me the truth? We have a generator we ran several times, but not enough to keep my food from spoiling. Now I don't have money to pay FPL, and I need to buy food and I still don't have power. Why couldn't anyone tell me the truth?

My husband called for the 7th time this morning and spoke to someone and he told him that an order had not been issued to reconnect until 6:00 a.m. this morning. All 5 people told us the order had been placed last nigth for reconnect and crews did work at night.

I needed to run my generator last night and I would have if we had known there would be no power all night. It's 9:00 a.m. the following day and I still am without power.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] tardness of turning back on light when turned off

we had out service turn off, we had not got a disconnect notice or even a phone call, they told us that it would be 2 to 24 hours befor our service would be turn back on, we payed our bill august 7th at 3:55, and was supposto to be turn our service back on at 3:55, august 8th, we made 5 phone call to find out when we would have our service back on, it was in the ninietys out side, I have 4 dogs, and my hubson has had cancer service and cannot take the heat, we do not have places to go in this kind of susation, at 3:55 on the August 8 our service was not returned back on, we called, and they told us that there was no service truck, where scheduled for our area, so they said that we would half to wait another hour for a truck to come out to trun on our service back on, when the gentlemen came out an 1 1/2 hours later, he told us that no truck was scheduled to come out to area to return service back on and that there was 6 more customers that had to be truned back on in our small town.I cannot argue the point about not paying our bill, but i will argue that it is unhumane for anyone to half to wait that long to have service returned back on, all my meat has to be thrown out of my fridge, anot to mention that i was feeling very dizzy and sick to half to indurel that kind of treatment, and i feel that something has to be done to help aleviate this kind of treatrment, and I mean to do something about it!

Okay... for ME it was a case of another customer who had my phone number before I did. I called FPL and they were very nice about fixing the error. My concern was for the actual person they were trying to reach. BUT, with that being said, FPL HAS gotten WAY out of hand and how they DEMAND payment and are really hard to work with when it comes to requesting payments extentions.

FPL has gotten out of hand. A woman that I know had her lights shut off with out notice too. Her husbamd had a heart transplant and is in a wheel chair. Complain to your state rep about it. it is time that the consumer got some protection from FPL's loan shark like tacticts.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] deposit requirement and pay in cash every month

I am glad that a lot of individuals and citizen are doing something to STOP THE FPL's ABUSE, they are not doing much to help consumers, because they know they have us in there hands. They are the only provider of power and light and they can control us. I wish them to have some continuousness about the financial hardships time of this slow economy we all experienced. They required me to pay 2 months deposit of $ 681.00 by July 24, 2008, I f I do not pay in that time, they will disconnect my service and for me that timeframe is to little to reach. And also, they do not accept any excuse repay just the full amount. NO partial payments, and the deposit is kept on theirs hands for 23 months. After carefully reading all others complaints in this board of complaint and I hope you can tell we all need to help to solve this ABUSE OF POWER due to their MONOPOLY.

I have the same problems with FPL, they have just charged me another $153.00 deposit because I am paying late on bills that have over doubled in size; this is the second additonal deposit they have charged me in a years time. They offer to waive and return my deposit if I sign up for automatic bill pay but my account has to be at a zero to do this and I can never stop it otherwise I will be charged again. FPL is using the Additional Deposits to strong arm consumers into signing up for automatic bill pay, well I am sorry but if I am already pulling my hair out about paying a $325.00 electric bill than I don't think having money automatically withdrawn from my account is a very good idea, not only will it get kicked back but I will be charged overdraft fees and I am sure FPL will charge fees as well. I sent email out to all government agencies I could think of and one forwarded it to an agency that regulates the power companies, below is their contact information if you need it.

Senator King's office forwarded a copy of your e-mail regarding Florida Power & Light Company to the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC).
The PSC regulates investor-owned electric, natural gas, and telecommunications utilities throughout Florida, and investor-owned water and wastewater utilities in those counties which have opted to transfer jurisdiction to the PSC.

To assist you, please provide us with the following:

* Your service address
* Your service telephone number
* Your daytime contact telephone number
* The name in which your electric bill is addressed

You may respond by return e-mail or by calling me at [protected]. I will look forward to hearing from you.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] no compassion/unserstanding

I'm writing for a disabled friend who has a letter from a doctor stating she is on oxygen yet the power company shut her power off due to non-payment of bill plus to generate a little more profit in their pockets late yesterday. Meanwhile my friend who is already underweight is seeing her food bought with food stamps spoiling -not very green to the electric company, and she can't buy food until next Tuesday. Florida Power and Light is violating a Florida ordinance just for more "money" (profit) reconnection fee. To prove this is a real story my friend's name is Shanti Clancy. Thus a warning to all if you/relatives use oxygen or life support have a battery operated genenerator, otherwise the decision of life or death is in the control of the power company especially expect no mercy from Florida Power and Light if you miss the electric bill payment.

FPL makes now automated phone calls to the customers scaring them into paying their past due balance right a way because they will disconnect your power "TODAY". I am always almost one month behind because my husband is legally blind and I have also a disability, having only a small unemployment check. Not to get in too much into health issues, FPL used to care in the 80's before they won the "Demin Award" issued by Japan, soon after that, Japaneese black suites kept on walking around in their facilities and the whole attituded became "Customer Unfriendly". I struggle with them every month.

I am currently going through the same with Leesburg power. I take care of my mother who is on oxygen. They have shut me off several time after entering the life support program. This last time was for $61.00. They barely ever send me a bill and say that the law says they only have to give me 24 hour notice, but the guidelines they gave me says that it is only for scheduled maintenance not non payment of bill!

There appears to be little ability of the phone operator taking complaints of lost power to communicate with the work crews. As a result when work is incomplete or not performed there is no way for the customer to get any accurate info in the phone call. My business has been without power for 24 hours now and still no resolution only continued misinformed supervisors telling me that they can't do anything. If anyone at FPL actually reads this, I would suggest that supervisors be given additional ability to to contact crews when there appears to be an apparent slowdown in the work. I will be raising this matter with the Public Utility Commission as well.

The reason their is only 2 complants, most people have been dragged into the ground by fpl and are under the impression that this EVIL, monopolizing so called ### of a company has more money than GOD and don't give a sh...

What are we going to do, stop using their products.
they don't care you will be back and pay.

They are worse than the food stamp office and ssi when you apply for aid.

Talk about goudging

My girlfriend is disabeled, she gets around 600 dollars a month. and has to take care her disabled son that gets nothing because cant get approved.

her house is a mobile home and the ### had her on the so called budget plan at 400.00 a month, they tell her that the bill is actually between 500.00 and 600.00 a month.

In case your wondering how she makes it well, she don't I make the differance for her.

I have to take care of my mentally disabled brother and for some reason his check was stopped and for several months I had to take care of his bills too.

she got behind with fpl they turned her light off;
I finally after takeing every I own to the pawn shop raised up money to pay her bill. but now get this, ,

they took her off the budget plan and billed her for the differance and added another 250 dollars for extra deposit and sent her a bill for 1900.00 dollars

No this ant no lye I have a copy of the bill cause no one believes me.

1900 dollars lewy. for a double wide mobile home.

her bill because she is not on the budget plan anymore is 500 a month is redickuless pluss they told her she has to pay 339.87 a month till she pays the 1900.00 dollars off.

You tell me how is she going to do that with her 600.00 dollar disability check. 840.00 dollars a month come on this is strong arm robery, I don't care how you look at it.

This is it? Two comments on FPL. This is by far the worst company to ever do business with. Ten years I have been going around with them. Over charging, bad meters, bad customer service, etc. They get away with everything because they have no competition and The State allows them to do whatever they feel.
Two complaints, come on people.

Good for you to stand up for your friend. My sister and brother-in-law have very similar problems w/Florida Power & Light. Should anything drastic happen to your friend's health, sue them! Why should your friend have a generator? A late payment is not a crime, however, the sort of punishment that Florida Power & Light is placing against their customers is a crime! The Public Service Commission should put a stop to this. Shutting off one's power, or giving ultimatums is not going to make or scare a customer into paying any sooner than they can. Floria Power & Light has 16 billion dollars in revenue annually! How much of that goes into the CEO's pockets, not giving a damn about the average citizens who are struggling so desperately in these times? Penalties are different if hundreds of dollars are owing by a customer who extends no effort to pay. However, being late each month in these trying times, and then being punished by FP&L for being late in these trying times is a travesty!

Florida Power & Light [FPL] turning off power for 5 hours in the mid day

I just got a notice in the mail 04/04/2008 saying that on april 10th fpl will be turning off service for 5 hours! starting at 10:00 am in our area...

Work request number is 3001493 phone number is [protected]... this is absolutly ridiculaus (sp?) 5 hours in the heat of the day and on top of that I work from home on my computer and what about people who may (there are a lot of older people around here) who can't go w/o ac for 5 hours! I am so mad right now, if anything what fpl should do is schedule the outage for no more then 1 1/2 for 3 days starting at 10 to 11:30 before it gets to hot... anyone know who I can complain to before the 10th other then fpl because they do anything it's got to go higher...

Some people who live in Florida don't even have A/C. Why do people even move to FL if they don't like the heat?... I'd say it's a pretty obvious prerequisite... It's environmentally apathetic to go somewhere that warm and just pump the A/C all the time.

Ever wonder what people even further south do?

Power Company Making Life/Death Decision

The customer service representative from their collection agency was very rude and unprofessional. They have no sympathy for a disabled person on oxygen. My nephew is trying is trying to ask President Bush and Congress to pass a new "bill"
stating electric companies can not disconnect to a person whose dependent on electrical machines for survival. If they disconnect I'll know have to go meet my maker. Does this country want to give the utility companies the power to make life and death decisions?
