Florida Power & Light [FPL] theft

FPL stole $418 out of my checking account. I was told that if I enrolled in the Automatic bill pay, my deposit would be waived. I enrolled and they used that access to my bank account to take out the deposit without my consent. They won't even call me back and it is impossible to reach a rational person at FPL. What can I do?

My husband & I just moved back to NY from FL- we let FPL know we would be moving and told them NOT to bill us for our last months bill b/c we would not have the funds to cover it in the account that we had set up for auto-payments.. the rep stated they would send us the paper copy of our bill to pay.. well on sunday we received a letter- NOT a bill to our new address stating our January bill was due & they would be debiting our account for February's bill.. I immediately checked my account to find out they they debited my account for both bills and now my account is in bad standing and I've been charged with 2 over draft fees for not having suffient funds.. My husband called and requested to hear the recording and they refused to let him- saying they don't have the technology to allow that... HOW do you have technology to power a whole state but not to let someone listen to a recorded call.. I am in the process of disputing this with my bank (who is being VERY helpful in the situation) I am also filing a complaint with the BBB and any other agency that will accept my complaint.. If this does not get resolved the way I am expecting I WILL be pressing charges against FPL

Florida Power & Light [FPL] customer service

FPL is run by ### who hire ### with no souls to work for them in "customer -DIService." We've been without power for almost 1 month now. We applied for a $600 community agency voucher. FPL took the money and still disconnected the power. "Whoops...our mistake. We weren't supposed to disconnect your service, but we'll need $1, 000 to reconnect it." What the &$^#%? If we had to go to a community agency for help, what makes them think that we have $1, 000 lying around! They then decided that $250 was enough...no, they wanted $500...no, make that $700. My husband had enough and called the PSC who is supposed to help the consumer...BIG BIG BIG mistake. FPL got pissed when he did, and now they refuse to connect the power unless we give them the $1000. We are done here in FL. FPL can take their electricity and shove it up their collective butts...I hope everyone soul-less sorry excuse for human beings that work for them rot in hell.

How the government allows FPL to be the monopoly they are is outrages. Their customer service sucks they are the biggest ###s in the world. The CEO's should be hung and or out in prison for the scammers that they are!

FPL abscess power they have simply because there are no alternative service providers for electricity to our homes. They have horrible customer service and when there is a problem or issue they do not call the customer refuse to tell their customers a time frame of when they will be available to come out simply put they are abusive to their customers because they know there are and will be no repercussions to their actions.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] disconnections

Ok so i have read a lot of boards pertaining to FPL domination of electricity in Florida and can see I am not alone in my frustration and anger towards this company...They are
complete bullys with awful customer service and no care or concern as to who they F over to put in lighter terms all they want is there money and they dont care if your
walking around with 1 penny in your pocket they will push you til no end to take that penny away from you. My husband and I are both unemployed and getting by doing little odd jobs to help put food on the table and a roof for our 3 small children whom 2 are asthmatic and require using a nebulizer to receive treatments since they are too young to use an aerosol pump I take complete responsibility not being able to pay my bill on the due date but i do make the payments before the shut off notice comes little do they care they continue to charge me Deposit after deposit regardless of my MULTIPLE calls to them pleading and begging them to please give me a chance and explain my situation I get their standard "I'm so sorrys" but theres nothing we can do to help you we'll refer you to the automatic payment extension line to see if you qualify...OF COURSE I DON'T QUALIFY their requirement for payment extension is 6 consecutive on time billing cycles! despite all the deposits i have paid for mind you my initial deposit was a 450! their credit rating system is completely BOGUS! its like they pull numbers out of a hat and whatever comes out is what they charge their customers. So i get disconnected..I drop everything I'm doing take the little bit of money I have saved for my next months rent and go pay them on the phone pleading them please send someone to reconnect my one year old is very sick and needs his treatments this Miami heat and humidity is not helping I have no money to pay for the emergency room deductible if I need to take him to urgent care I get the run around on the phone get transferred to a Supervisor only to be shot down time after time ALL SHE DOES IS SEND ME A LETTER TO APPLY FOR MEDICAL ESSENTIAL WHICH IS SUBJECT TO THEIR APPROVAL...ALL IN ALL FPL IS AN ABUSIVE MONOPOLY SUCKING THE LIFE OF FLORIDIANS MANY OF WHOM ARE STRUGGLING TO MAKE IT DAY TO DAY THEY DO NOTHING FOR CONSUMERS BECAUSE THEY KNOW WE HAVE NO WHERE ELSE TO GET POWER FROM SO THERE THEY SIT ON THEIR THRONE AND LOOK AWAY AND HARM MANY WITH THEIR UNJUST WAYS SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE THEY MUST BE STOPPED WE NEED HELP NOT SOMEONE KICKING US DOWN WHEN WE'RE TRYING TO GET UP!

Florida Power & Light [FPL] deposit scam

In March of 2007, we moved into our remodeled house, (which was our previous address)and transferred our Fpl service, (with the auto bill pay we had for over 4 years). Not only did they double bill us, their computer dropped us from auto bill pay, which we didn't find out until the power was cut off, in Aug. of 2008. We finally worked it out in Feb. of 2009 and re-enrolled in auto bill pay. But still. the bill was not being paid. Fpl finally realized we had 2 account numbers. Fpl has taken no responsibility for the 2 years of hell. And now, we are being forced to pay a $820.00 deposit, not to mention, we never received a refund for the overcharges in, Aug. of 2008. We need another electric company. If Fpl had some competition, they would be forced to give decent customer service, unlike what we are receiving now.
Unfortunately, you cant reason with a dictatorship.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] contiually charging deposits

Hi My Name is Celestine Sanders i am a single mom of 5 sons and i am also on disability i am writing because i think the practices of Fpl is unfair they have continually raised my deposit i believe i have about 375.00 as a deposit already and they are now asking for 50.00 more dollars that is more than half my income there requiring the reason stated is because i have been late paying a bill but if im late its because there is a struggle why would fpl add to the struggle i dont understand i have lived in other states and have never been treated the way i have been treated by fpl...My service has never been disconnected but they keep upping my deposit...bad practices

Write you state representatives! I am outraged about the same situation, and am wondering over the legality of this. They already have $200/dollars from me and now want another 232.00! I have ALWAYS paid my FPL bill. Never been late, yet they seem to feel I need to give them a $450 dollar guarantee to privde me with elctricity to operate my business. Extortion, no more no less.

This is a practice that needs to be stopped in it's tracks. Can you imagine if more and more comanies start implementing this? Corporations are becoming like blood sucking leeches, they will not stopped until they have bled the American public dry.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] rate increase

FPL is once again asking for a rate increase. Meanwhile, they are boasting record profits for 2008 and the frist quarter of 2009. So much profit that Armando Olivera and Lew Haye each received bonuses in the millions (if that gives you any idea what there pay rate is). Part of the increase is to "replace" a 10 year old jet that is in a fleet of three. Mr. Olivera who resides in Miami takes a company helicopter to Juno (FPL headquarters) to go to work. Guess who pays for the fuel? US. At the same time FPL, which won an award for being the most ethical company to work for, treats its union employees like slaves. Lineworkers have one of the ten most deadliest jobs (Forbes article from 8/26/2009). These men are told they have to call a supervisor if they need to use the bathroom. Seems ridiculous for grown men and women to ask permission to use the bathroom. Supervisors return calls at there own convience so they might end up waiting for hours before getting an ok to pee. FPL also put GPS systems in line tucks to keep track of lineworkers. Since the installation of these systems they have suspended and terminated several employees just for stopping to use the bathroom or get a cup of coffee after 16 hours of work putting our power on. FPL says part of the rate increase they say is to make lines stonger and provide cleaner power. My question is if AT&T and cable companies pay for part of the cost of the poles you use, how much more money do you need? All of us in Florida know when there is a hurricane we ARE going to lose power, but I and everyone I know has experienced a loss of power in one of our wonderful Florida thunderstorms. So what the hell are YOU really doing with my money? As far as cleaner power, I suggest Mr. Olivera reads EPA laws. I has seen several transformers that have leaked, how well were those cleaned up? Taking a helicopter to work does NOT provide cleaner air. Check your carbon footprint you overpaid axe man. Oh, and back to how you treat your employees pray we don't get a hurricane and all these men and women walk off on you. Let's see how many transmission and distribution lines you and Lew can get put up.

Non _Fuel Charges
Fort Lauderdale, US

I don't like having to pay for a non-fuel charge every month with FPL for service that I did not use in my home. Since March -August 2012 I have paid a tota of 323.49 for non fuel .FPL charge all of the customer a non-fuel charge which is a charge that has nothing to do with the eletricty usage in the home.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] dishonesty and ripping off customers!

FPL in Palm Coast. Within the past month we have handed them over $800.00. We gave them almost $600.00 of it first and then they showed up like a week later and disconnected our power over what they said was an additional deposit. That day we borrowed the $250.00 and paid it and they turned the power back on. Now two weeks have passed and without first receiving a normal bill, we receive a final notice for almost $200.00 DEPOSIT. We have a couple of days to come up with it and we can't. When we called to ask why we're getting another deposit, they said the last time wasn't a deposit. This is on top of them continuing to try to take money out of my mother's bank account and causing the check to bounce... after she asked them to stop! (this is why they said they billed us that deposit which they now deny was a deposit!) They claim she didn't request them to stop automatic billpay but she did. I was sitting there when she requested it, I know she did. Anyway, when someone figures out how to sue them, let me know, I'll join you. teresa.[protected]@yahoo.com

Fort Lauderdale was spared damaged from Tropical Storm Isaac. However, three days later, I am still without power. You call their numbers and they just tell you a different story each time. I know that we may not have a choice and FPL is the only provider of power. Yet, it is just wrong that they leave people in the dark when obviously, the storm was just a glorified rain storm. Next storm, I will make sure to get out of here because only one thing is true: you cannot rely on FPL.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] disconnect service for nonpayment of deposit

I opened my once monthly email today from FP&L that tells me the amount of my current electric bill and when it's due, and the amount due was over twice what it is normally. I called to find out the situation, and the automated service said I am scheduled for disconnect today! Shocked (as the bill for electricity is due on 9/4 and I am completely current w/ payments), I got a customer service rep on the line and she informed me that they're charging me a $236 deposit b/c I have been late twice in the last 6 months, that they sent me notices in the mail advising the same (which I never saw because I am used to getting emails from them). So my electric is being shut off for not paying a DEPOSIT? That should not be legal. My bill for electricity isn't even due until 9/4. The supervisor would not negotiate. There has to be more regulation from WHATEVER department regulates utilities. The policy for reinstating a deposit fee is too stringent (late more than 2x within 6 mos). And it's not like you can choose to take your business somewhere else! We are browbeaton into paying OR ELSE! you live in the dark w/ cold water and hot air. What's more they send a thug ("field representative" is what they call them actually) out to your house to collect or else they go right to the back and shut you off. Does anyone know how to go through the proper channels to attempt to change some of the rules that FP&L force upon us?

Florida Power & Light [FPL] high bill

Good news, the reason my FPL bill is over $700 is global warming. When I called FPL to ask about my high bill they told me "it's hot out".
They said maybe I should get better air systems, but I already replaced both my ac units this year. I asked about the rebate for my new ac units but was informed that I needed to buy them from an approved FPL contractor. What a scam!

I got the same response from FPL's Unprofessional customer service, my bill doubled. in one month. When they changed to the "SMART METER" ...(the only thing smart about the smart meter is that you cant read it)..what a farce..NOW they can charge anything they want.
FPL is OUT OF CONTROL and the powers that be are in their pockets. when the call center WILL NOT connect you to a supervisor or give your complaint to some one who can help..all you get is the temp out side is much warmer than previous month. and that there are three more days on this billing cycle...what a joke THAT DOUBLED MY BILL! REALLY? GO SUCK EGGS..[censored]

Florida Power & Light [FPL] abuse

Well, I hope this time worth, since I started my contract with the FPL compani I realized too many good tricks they have to get a great profits from people that ignore how this kind of business work, special the hispanic people, I had an experience since the begining where this company does not give the right information to the people in the case of foreing people, when I started my contract with the FPL the staff of the compani never told me that I had to pay a deposit of 200 dls. after they sent me a final notice, because thats the best way to start burning your record, making look the customer as a late payment customer, I spoke with the representative customer and a lady of it's staff told me that I might lost the deposit and that I should wave it. After I explained all the reason why I didn't send my deposit they tried to seem like the good company giving me one more chance. after certain time to be paying on time my bills, when was the time to recover my deposit the FPL company told me that I was a bad customer and that most of the time I was late in my payments and that they could not get me back my deposit by virtue of such late payments, when I told them that I had all my records up to date, they were reluctant to get back my deposito to my pocket. After severals calls and hours of been hanged on waiting for their response they decided to get my deposit back. no mentioning that at the begining they told me that the deposit was to be kept by them for a space of 6 months, then when I called them to recover it, they told me againg that that was 1 year, and after the year were 23 months and so on, till at the end I could see it in my hands, of course that they sent me a threat final notice that if I were late they were to shout off my power in case that I were late in my payments. well, after certain time I decided ti ask for an extention of 2 days because of this bad economi, you know what I was arepented to doit, no matter what but they charged me 1.65 dls., just for these days that I requested as an extention, they gave me 20 days grace, howerver I used just the next day to pay my bill cause what I was needing was just one day. furthermore I've been realizing that in most cities council most time do meeting to discuss about the increases of rates, over here in this city seems that no government body governs over this company, they raise the rates every time that they wish. no matter that taxpayers be on time on taxes any way this sort of companies are doing all what they want, seeming to be hand to hand with the government. and we are talking that there are hundres of hispanic people that is suffering the same or worst, of this kind of unetical business.

You all really need to learn proper English, spelling, grammar, etc. if you wish to be taken seriously. It's not just "hispanics" that have problems, and that is very raceist to write and assume that. White people and people of every race and ethnicity have the same problems as you. Focus on the problem at hand rather than looking for pity because you are hispanic. That's DUMB!

Florida Power & Light [FPL] billing

This company has been raping the citizens of the state of florida for way too many years. I live in a one bedroom apt. 800 square feet. and my fpl bill was usually around 86 bucks, i use to be on the budget plan, when i really looked at the budget plan i was getting charged for way too much than what i actually utilized, so i removed myself from the plan. My bills were now $73-74.00 a month.. great i'm saving money and i'm very concious about energy in the home.. shutting off lights, replacing bulbs, upping the thermostat to 85, etc. you know everything "they tell us to do". I get my bill expecting 75.00 or even $80.00... no.. my bill was $104.66! what! $25.00 INCREASE I was outraged.. and the only thing the customer service person said was i can connect you to a energy saving expert! he kept on saying it over and over like a robot! well obviously your expert isn't such a great expert! no reason for the increase, it was just really really hot this past month! huh? that's it? that's your reason? WE ALL NEED TO START COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS COMPANY'S MONOPOLIZATION OF THEIR BUSINESS . WE HAVE NO ALTERNATIVES... NO OTHER OPTIONS... THIS IS NOT LEGAL... NO COMPANY SHOULD HAVE A MONOPOLY OF THIS INDUSTRY.. THERE'S TOO MANY OTHER ALTERNATIVES OUT THERE! WE NEED TO WRITE OUR CONGRESSMEN/WOME! LET'S GET THIS GOING!

Same here I was talked into this stupid budget bill pay option and I swear it just a big rip off. I went from paying $135 per month to $308 every single month. How is that even legal? FPL is the biggest rip off ever and something needs to be done. We have no help and no other options when it comes to water and light companies you stuck with the one stupid company in your city. Horrible. Budget bill pay saves you absolutely no money. However it will drain your bank account for you. What a joke

Florida Power & Light [FPL] does not accept visa

For the first time I tried to make an online payment using my Credit Card, things have been tight for us, just like the rest of the country.

My choices with FPL were only Master Card and Discover!

No Visa.

I would like to know why they do not accept Visa which is the only Credit Card I own and with times being as hard as they are I cannot get approved for another card.

I dont know many people who own Discover.

I thought the whole world was M/C and Visa.

Very angry! I phoned and did not get an answer. Emailed Customer Service to see if there is an explanation!

Still Waiting

I used to work for FPL. They are the cheesiest company on earth. They expected us to root out the customers who were stealing power but decided we should be doing it for free. When they stopped paying us the bonuses, the hits fell to near zero. Then they asked what other than money could they offer us. Good luck with that, we said. All this while the CEO got a helicopter ride to work every day. But notice they ask the Florida Senate for permission to raise your bill every year and never get told no. Who works for whom?

I pretty sure that FPL doesnt take Visa because someone can pay using Visa to get there power turned back on and then contest the charge and Visa returns the money back and then the customer has their power turned back on and gets their money back. I believe its more difficult to contest charges with the other CC companies and wont reverse the charge until the investigation is done.

Believe me, I would love the oppurtunity to get one over on FPL. They know you can't just buy power from another company like you can with phone, internet, or cable TV companies. They know this so thier customer service is horrible and refuse to work with you on anything. Think you have a high bill? They don't care. I have the same issue with my water utilities. You have to use them if you want power, so they don't have to play nice to keep you around.

I usually pay online, but it can take up to a whole week before the payment I made is taken out of my account, which is a hassle in itself when you depend on online banking. Because our payment wasn't taken out right away, we slipped and now there wasn't enough to cover the payment. As soon as I realized what happened, I got the money needed put back into the bank and decided to bite the bullet and go ahead and pay the outrageous $3.25 fee with Western Union so it would clear right away and this wouldn't happen again. I have always used Visa before to pay my bill, I was shocked to see it was no longer accepted. I'm stunned, confused and know that they could care less. There has to be a money issue that FPL and Visa are disagreeing on. I hate that we don't have a choice on who we do business with. It seems so unfair that we are all put in a position that forces us to give our hard earned money to a bunch of crooks.

FPL wants to insure that making a payment will be merely impossible so they can turn off your power and collect another $18 when they flip their automatic switch to turn it back on. Visa is the most common form of debit/credit cards which would be of course! Why they don't except it. I personally have been "suspended" from paying online with checking-routing number due to FPL's "F" up with numbers. And to compare McDonald's with "diner club"? wtf is diners club... Visa is internationally recognized

Amen, FPL can sure show up ASAP when something is wrong with your meter, but accepting a VISA, well now, that could be a problem, my b$%fing city water co. charges a big fee for when ur water gets shut off, but BY GOD they accept VISA over the phone. FPL on the other hand cant explain to me why mastercard is the key to success other than the giant visa card. The fun part really begins when u hv to find that one particular store that accepts fpl pay( that posts immediately), then drive to egypt but dont forget u hv to stop at your bank first to get the cash, cause the hodge mart will not accept any other form of payment. FPL can suck it.

"Every" business in the modern world should accept VISA. Similarly, when I walk into a restaurant this is still "cash only", I walk right out. Backwoods rednecks attempting to avoid taxes. Unfortunately, we can just "walk out" on FPL. It's a government-backed monopoly on utility service. The solution is to lobby your Congressmen (and women) to pass legislation requiring FPL to offer payment by VISA. If FPL is going to enjoy government protection of its monopoly, it will have to deal with the strings the citizens of Florida attach to that protection. I can't believe I even had to write about FPL not accepting VISA. Its simply remarkable in a not-so-good "what planet are we on anyway" sort of way.

Here is a secret. Electric service is only interrupted when the final notice expires before FPL receives payment on the past due balance, nothing more.

Perhaps one's arrogance is keeping them from applying for a Visa, Discover, American Express or merely noting and ahering to the expiration date on the final notice.

One final thought, a customer can opt for a cash advance on a precious MC and gone to a pay station to provide payment before the final notice expired.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] - again another high deposit?

I am so sick of this! FPL did it again! They have closed the Palm Coast payment store, so the only option is Daytona's pay center. Well They only take cash first of all. And second I tried paying online and they don't take Visa any longer. So last month we payed cash on the 3rd...the day the bill was due. So it took FPL 3 days to process it, making u...

Florida Power & Light [FPL] payment rejection

I have had numerous problems with FPL in recent months, the worst happened today, I recieved a final notice pending shut off, my bill was due 6/23, I attempted to pay this bill everyday for 5 days starting 6/19 through western union speedypay, ( FPL's Credit/Debit payment processing). I Continuously received the error " This card is not allowed". I have used this card several times in the past, at one time charged $16.00 fee, which is supposed to be $3.25 or $3.95 over and above the amount of payment. After recieving the final notice I attempted once again, only to receive the same error.
I thought maybe my balance was low on the card, not the issue, I had more than enough funds to cover my payment, the card I was using was a pre-paid debit card that had been used before numerous times. I tried another card that Is owned by WESTERN UNION, ( they are the ones I pay to load the card with funds), again DENIED. I called FPL to complain, all they could say was "We apologize sir, Western Union no longer accepts Visa"
WHAT? No one could tell me this the first time I attempted to make a payment?, I had to spend over $20.00 in ATM and Pre-paid load fee's to transfer money and spend 4 hours at a local bank to open a checking account to pay this bill. I have had several problems with FPL, I am unemployed and have informed them that I am the only person with an income. That means nothing to them, THEY DEMAND YOUR MONEY, BUT ONLY UNDER TERMS THEY SET! I have never had ANY utilility reject any form of payment! At one time several months ago, I requested an extension with a partial payment, informing them that I would pay the remaining balance within 3 days, I was told the extension with a partial payment of $46.56 was granted with no threat of disconnect as long as the remaining balance of $53.65 was made within 3 days, my power was shut off the next day, I have a $266.00 deposit with them, and now have been billed an additional $56.00, due in one week. My bill never goes above $150.00 a month

FPL has monopolized many area's of Florida, they need to be stopped!

FPL should not be making it difficult for people to pay their FPL bills. I am unemployed and have funds sent to the Visa debit card from unemployment - I can pay almost everything with that except for FPL...and I still haven't figured out how to pay them. Please accept visa unemployment debit cards.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] ripping off customers during a recession

FPL is charging me another $116.00 in another deposit on top of my $70.00 deposit that they still have. Just moved here from Chicago IL in August of 2008, single parent living on a fixed income due to this ruff economy and FPL had the nerve to come to my apartment and turn off my power because i was 10days late on the bill. I called them when i recieved a bill from 108.00 that I currently owe to $363.00. I called FPL and thier response to me was that their policy if you are late they come an shut off power.

How can this be legal what if someone is on oxygen, or even a baby that is sent home on a nebulizer survive? Or even the elderly without power they would probably die ?

How can politicians allow any of this to happen in this time of need.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] ridiculous deposit in a recession!!!

I am aware that deposits are required at the time of hookup.. but, $640 for a deposit is unheard of... I am a mother of four and have a daughter who had a heart transplant and is on medications that have to be refridgerated..I was floored when they told me I have ten days to pay the balance..I fought hard and was able to get an extension..but, I still haver to pay $200 every two weeks for a month and a half on top of my normal bills... Are you kidding me...I asked why the deposit amount is so high..She stated it goes off what the average bill was for the individuals who lived there BEFORE me..So basically I am being punished for there high bills..Thats nuts..So then she proceed to tell me they also use credit as a source...OMG!who in this time has good credit after the jobs loss, and housing loss..I lost my house to foreclosure last year and of course my credit now sucks..what happened to a community coming together to help eachother out..don't you think the higher up at the power company could have a heart.. after all my daughter had to get a new heart at three weeks old and she has never done anyone wrong like these power companies are doing...I hope they realize, they are not just hurting parents..but, children as well...sincerely, DeAnna Hooker

We need a lawyer to stop this abuse FPL monopolize Miami and is abusing of their costumers because they do not have competitors they just decide if your deposit is to be increase, also if you cannot pay anymore by phone or online for a full year, increase the rate every time they want, they do not want to work with customer necessity and turn down the power without ask about any solution.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] fpl deposit rip off

In June of 2008 My husband and I moved to Florida. Our Electric company is FPL. Each billing cycle we are billed twice for amounts over $200.00. It is now (today) March 21 2009, and our power was shut off twice this month of March, only for payment amount of $156.63 cents. We couldn't understand why we were shut off because we pay every two weeks. We then 6 days after getting shut off and paying the fee's, where given another Bill for $292.96 cents. Telling us yet again we owe a disposit amount of $363.00, yet in June paid the "deposit" amount they asked for of $250.00, so today we decided to Disect our bills. We broke it down to where we are only using 295 KW per day at $2.05 cents a day, adding up to $16.22 every 8 days which would be in a 30 day cycle (monthly) $60.00 a month. If you tripple that, which we did, that is our bill they send each month. If you add up what we have paid, mind you every two weeks as we are billed twice (6-11 days apart) it adds up to $4, 333.74 since June of 2008. My home is 1800SQFT, and it is only myself my husband and my baby. The only things running every day/night are Computer/Fridge, we do not use the air due to it being just right outside. We do laundry 3 loads on Sundays, and showers every other day for myself and my baby, my husband is gone all week. When we call FPL and ask them why this is, they tell us that "It isn't our problem" and they also say "you do not pay twice a month, as we do not bill like that", which if you look at our break down which I printed out, it has us paying every 6-11 days 156.63 cents, and each bill we get says Final Notice at the top. Also we are charged "late fee's" when that can not be possible since we pay bi-weekly. They are also charging us another deposit amount. What do we do about this. We are at wits end, and have paid so much as they demand more!

At Florida power and light...our motto is customers should be seen and not heard. We are too big of a company for you to do anything about it irregardless of the complaints you file with the better Business bureau and any other place of business designed to write negative reviews about FPL.

We at Florida power and light look forward to giving every single one of our employees a golden parachute compliments of our good taxpayers who live in Florida thanks to our price gouging and rate hikes.

I signed up for automatic billing. My statement said my bill is due May 2. FPL debited my bank account on April 25 which resulted in a NSF charge of $30 from my bank because I didn't expect the charge until the following week.

When I called FPL, it is impossible to get hold of a representative only a automated response. The auto response says that I was billed April 22. FPL billing is all messed up!

Why should FPL be allowed to demand deposit? I have a deposit with FPL for about $560. I owe them $360 and they did not want to give me a payment extension while holding more than $500? They are squeezing the working people dry. And they want another increase?

Maybe it is time to end the monopoly!

FPL sucks! Everyone that works for them sucks. Now, there were a couple of people in the above comments who said "pay your bills on time". Screw you! Not everyone is capable of grabbing money every time fpl demands it. I received a notice today stating that they need an additional deposit from me of $273.00. They start by saying "we understand that these are hard times. Many families are struggling to make ends meet." Then they say for that reason, we need an additional deposit from you, on top of your ridiculous bill that you're struggling to pay. If you dont give in to our demands, we'll shut you down. I'm paraphrasing of course, but thats what it amounts to. I really, really wish I had another option. But, I'm a renter so solar panels are out. FPL has got us ALL over a barrel (even you fpl sympathisers) and the people who can help, don't care one bit. I doubt it will ever get any better. I'd be willing to bet it will get steadily worse. I'd like to punch whomever is in charge there in the face right about now.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] deposit demand

I am writing in hopes someone out there gets angry enough to file a class action lawsuit against FPL for unfair utilities practice. I lost my employment Jan. 8 2009 and because of a mistake on an account (Nov.of 2008) the check was returned. I found out this happened and I paid it by cash right away, but today Feb.20 2009 I received a threat from FPL that if I did not send an additional deposit of $184.00 by Feb 24 2009 power would be shut off. I wanted to see if others were having the same problems with Florida Power & Light so I checked online and was not surprised to find many complaints. I did however noticed something interesting, FPL demanding different amounts from different customers.
I was wondering do they (FPL) set these extra deposits on a whim?
If you want to know what to do, write Gov. Charlie Crist and tell him what this bully is allowed to do to all of us. Want real change? Fight Back!

FPL is doing unfair practice on how they charge customers . Every month, my bill comes to $411. I paid the bill for some reason. The bank returned the check. FPL charged me $40 more on the top of $411 that made me to pay $451. I followed all the instructions for energy saving. Nothing seem to work for me. This month again I will have to pay $401. A single family home. Why? I believe that FPL is assuming about the water in my area and idi not spend time to read the meter. I eliminated all the ceilling fans, and I replaced all light bulbs with energy saving. This is too much for a poor man single family home. Futhermore, I called FPL to wave the $40 charge because the check has returned. The supervisor told me no way. "we don't do that at FPL" I had to pay for it. for one month bill I paid $451.00 I cannot afford FPL bill and I'm sick of FPL bill. Since they installed Smart meter. No one comes to read the meter. FPL charges me what they want never below $200.

Why is it that fpl is the only most expensive utility company in the world. They are robbing the poor and its highway robbery that they are the only company in the state of Florida. Get rid of fpl and get another company. New York con Edison is more economical. May we should downsize their staff. They spend all there time in meetings and 3 hour lunches. Rip off company.

YOUR APPLICATION FOR ELECTRIC HAS BEEN DENIED
YOUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN DENIED BASED ON INFORMATION ON YOUR CREDIT FILE THAT COULD NOT BE RESOLVED

I have been paying fpl every month on time for the last 8 months
I recently moved and tried to transfer my account to a new address.
They denied my credit score for some reason even though the rental office cleared my credit to rent to apartment. there is nothing wrong with my credit score.

Do they have a right to deny people electric if they are they only company in florida? You think they would want to take my money right?
what am i sposed to do now? buy a generator? move out of florida?
fpl needs to be sued because all these complaints are going no where.
I need some help... any suggestions would be great.

I was hit with $850 deposit by FPL, Florida's UNFAIR Electric Company because I paid late 3 times within 6 months ALTHOUGH I lived up to my payment arrangements! Electricity should NOT be a for profit! Bottom Line! Also look at who FPL donates to...Republicans. My bill went up with NO explanation for 3 months. I contact FPL and someone came to my home and couldn't find a reason. I contacted PSC and seems to have FPL's attention. IF ENOUGH PEOPLE BOMBARD PSC WITH COMPLAINTS IT MAY MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Stop the monopolizing of electric! We should have options as long as they are a for profit. If your bill is too high, take action. If we do nothing, nothing happens.

I used to work for FPL and did not make $30/hr. I was in the call center and pretty much experienced the same problems people were calling and cursing me out about, unfortunately, lol. We had no perks, during hurricanes, at one point I slept at work 2 days straight to handle call volume... it's nothing glamorous. The deposit is pretty much based on 2 months service at that address based on the past 23 months (?)... I can't remember. So some properties use more electricity, some less which is why the dollar amounts fluctuate. Let's say you just move in to a place before there was a family of (5)... if they ask you for a deposit, they're basing it on the their usage, which while not fair... is all they have to go by. As far as I know, they didn't disconnect for unpaid deposits but i could be wrong. At one point when I felt like they'd charged me a deposit without merit, I contacted the FPSC and stated my situation, they looked into and had it waived.

We encountered a similar situation where our service was nearly disconnected. I was told that, even though we had paid the back balance, they apparently lumped the following month's bill into a previous "final notice" from Feb. 5th. Without any prior notice, a man called and said he was coming out to disconnect our service. It was a huge shock because we had paid up the past due amount and we WERE working on getting the money together to pay the balance. I was under the impression we had until the 27th; they were going to disconnect us on the 23rd. I can't even figure out HOW they came up with the amount of 110 when we satisfied the terms of the "final notice" and payment arrangement. It's .like assessing an extra deposit, suddenly they change the terms of the agreement and WHAM, you are running around, trying to prevent a disconnect.

Florida Power & Light [FPL] doesn't give a crap that families are broke

I can't express how much I hate fpl.. You would think with gas prices dropping our electric bills would reflect that but noooooo... And then on top of... I don't know about anyone elses situation but my husband was layed off late last year and we are struggling to pay all of our bills. I attempted to make payment arrangements with fpl and I was told I could be i've done so the past 2 months. Just now I had a fpl bill collector come to my house and tell me that if I didn't fork over $554.84 that she was going to shut my power off. I had no choice by to write her a check. I will now have less than $18 in my account to get us through the next week.

I checked their site to find out if they have any programs to set up a payment plan and if you are healthy, you are screwed. You have to be on social security in order for them to even attempt to help you and i'm sure after a few months, they'll shut off their power as well.

If I hear about fpl execs and employees getting bonuses this year, i'm going to pop a bloodvessel in my head. That company is the biggest monopoly aka cash [censored] monster in the state of florida and somehow they continue to manage to rape all of us and the goverment does nothing to stop them!

THEY ARE TOTAL JERKS. There links for auto pay and one time pay are right next to each other... I was switching banks so I went in to switch my bank info for autopay.. Well oops I did the other one on accident. Yeah so it bounced and now they want me to pay by cash or money order. WTF! I have wrote them and email about this honest mistake and they can clearly see it in there system. I am sure they will not give a rats A but it is worth a try. I wonder what the response will be IF I get one other than a shut off notice. I did go on the website and try to pay and I am SUSPENDED. THEY ARE THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN! It is a monopoly and we must bow down and take it in the you know what.
